I began my Photographic career over twenty years ago, then slowly slipped into Film making as a natural progression.
I have shot photographic projects and films all over the world, and have been an ambassador representing several schools, colleges and universities whilst involved in this work.

Teaching Experience:

I have over twenty years of Photography and Film making experience, working abroad to shoot several short films in Prague, Paris, Africa and China. I have worked with both African and Chinese students in their countries, shooting a variety of Photographic and Film projects, having spent three months, and one month in these respective countries.

I have over twenty years of teaching/training experience in various establishments, Schools, Colleges, Universities, and with various council's throughout the Midlands. I have worked with people from mental health units, drug rehabilitation centres, and the probation services, using the creative media and arts as a form of therapy to bring about positive change.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is a very relaxed, informal one, giving the student ample opportunity to attempt things for themselves, and to allow them to flex their own creative and mental muscles with support and guidance where necessary.
Students are allowed to be themselves, feel relaxed , comfortable, to be able to make mistakes, without the pressure of being surrounded by or judged by their peers.
I often use projects to reinforce creative ideas or techniques, so that students begin to create their own portfolio's of their photographic work or video clips that they can use to create a show reel.

I hold a First Class BA degree in English as well as an MA in Victorian Studies with Distinction, both from the University of Exeter. I am also in my final year of a PhD in Victorian Literature at the University of London.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a range of ages and abilities in English Literature, both in the UK and the US. Tutoring Approach:

As Stephen Krashen puts it, "Simply being a native speaker of a language does not in of itself qualify one as a teacher of that language. Conscious and extensive knowledge of grammar does not make one a language teacher either. Rather, the defining characteristic of a good teacher is someone who can make input comprehensible to a non-native speaker, regardless of his or her level of competence in the target language."

Your primary goal as a student is to learn a language. In that regard my primary job as a tutor is to guarantee the effectiveness of your learning process in relation to your needs and expectations.

How do I achieve that? First and most importantly by combining the right set of tools in my teaching repertoire:

- TPRS - Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling - is at the core of my methodology.

Traditionally there has been a prejudiced view that only certain people can 'do' languages. That only smart students can become proficient and that only the really smart can move on to advanced study. TPRS has demonstrated that the vast majority of students can achieve high levels of success at all levels of foreign language study, and that acquiring a second language isn't nearly as difficult as we teachers sometimes make it. TPRS is making particular headway in language classrooms across the US and considerable research has been done and published on its efficacy.

TPRS works because it is brain-friendly and multi-sensory methodology, fitting the needs of various learning styles. Students develop a real "ear for the language," learning to listen and respond to what sounds right.

- Teaching grammar in meaningful context from day one
The focus is first and foremost on the message, with realistic expectations (level-appropriate) for grammatical accuracy. My philosophy is that of John DeMado: "Linguistic accuracy is a destination, not a point of departure." My way of teaching grammar is based on usefulness, frequency of use and level appropriateness.

- Tremendous amount of Comprehensible Input.

This approach supports the language acquisition theory by Stephen Krashen, who says: "We acquire language in only one way, when we understand messages, that is when we obtain comprehensible input."

- Reading as a major component of learning process.

In his book, The Power of Reading: Insights into the Research, 2nd edition, (p. 37) Stephen Krashen states, "Studies showing that reading enhances literacy development lead to what should be an uncontroversial conclusion: Reading is good for you. The research, however, supports a stronger conclusion: Reading is the only way we become good readers, develop good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammatical competence, and the only way we become good spellers."

- Teaching Russian to heritage speakers as a language arts/social science.

My name is Kay and I have 17 years' experience as a tutor in all of the following subjects and levels:

1) English at Primary level (Years 1 to 6), KS3 , GCSE (Language & Literature) and A level Literature.
2) Maths at Primary level (Years 1 to 6).
3) History at KS3, GCSE and A level.

I also have 20 written references from parents, for students of various abilities, across all these subjects and levels.
I have an English-related degree (in History- which included some English modules within the degree), and I have a Level 1 City & Guilds Teaching Certificate in English.

I also have a proven track record of improving student's grades, regularly improving them by 1 to 2 grades, often in less than 1 year's tuition. For example, in English, I recently tutored a student at GCSE level- he had been predicted C grades in both Language & Literature, but after just 8 months' tuition with me, he achieved an A in his GCSE English Language exam and an A* in his English Literature exam. This is typical of my success over the years as a tutor.

I use National Curriculum Resources for all tuitions. Furthermore, I have great experience tutoring all abilities from the gifted and talented to those with Learning Disabilities (I have regularly taught students with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Asberges).

I can either travel to the student's home or they can come to me. I am available to tutor on all evenings of the week, Monday to Friday, as well as in the daytime.I tutor through most of the School holidays, providing the opportunity for students to put in extra revision during these periods.

As a full-time tutor, I have built up an extensive knowledge of the National Curriculum and the various exam boards.

Also, I have books for Gifted and Talented Maths students at the top of KS2 level.In addition, I have an extensive resource base of past exam papers in all subjects and levels.

For History, I have National Curriculum Resources for the various exam boards and plenty of past papers.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in making students feel at ease in the lessons, and in offering plenty of encouragement during the tuitions to build the student's confidence in the subject I am teaching.

I generally teach a topic to a student , and then set practice questions for the student to attempt based on my teaching.I am open to setting homework for the students, but always liaise with the parents as to whether they want their child to have any and if so how much.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching maths and physics and I have had previous experience of teaching maths for a tutoring organisation. I am an 18 year old student in my final year of school (RGS Newcastle), currently studying towards 4 A levels in Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Economics. This combination of mathematical subjects has enabled me to develop a solid foundation of mathematics, as well as physics, which I am able to trickle down to the students I teach. However primarily I really enjoy tutoring as it provides me with an opportunity to interact and support young persons of varying ages, from primary all the way up to A level. It is fascinating to watch and support them as they develop and to push them to reach their true potential whilst refining my own skills.

Aside from teaching Mathematics and Physics, I would also be able to provide some advice about applying to universities for Economics/Maths-related courses as studying at the London School of Economics is my chosen career path for the future, and I went through the application process last year so it is very familiar. I would also be open to helping with personal statement writing and structure as part of the application process.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a class assistant for Kumon Educational UK tutoring organisation for the past 2 years which has provided me with experience in teaching children of all ages, ranging from 6 to 17 years of age. Through this experience, I have taught children first-hand and this has strongly facilitated my role as a tutor.

I have completed a Sports Leadership qualification, in which I taught children basic sports skills and learnt how to communicate and cooperate with children of different ages.

I have had experience as a Lance Corporal for the NRGS Combined Cadet Force, in which I taught lessons to juniors in military craft as well as leading juniors in military exercises.

I am a 1st degree Blackbelt Instructor for the Newcastle Blackbelt Academy and through this role I have developed a high degree of focus and discipline. I have had experience in teaching junior students as well as leading classes of people of all belt degrees, adults and children.

Tutoring Approach:

Particularly in the case of tutoring children, I have had a lot of previous experience. I am able to cater to the needs of all kinds of children and have developed a knowledge of where children are likely to make errors and how to teach both simple and complex ideas in a palpable manner so that they are able to understand and progress with their learning. I look to target specific areas in which there are strengths and weaknesses and try to iron out any difficulties, one by one, before progressing onto the next idea.

Conceptually, I would like to create a strong foundation and try to perfect their knowledge of the basics before applying it to further concepts and doing it in this way allows future, more difficult problems to fall apart and be solved more easily.

I would like student to bring their own materials, books, textbooks etc relevant to their course or stage of learning and once the individual needs of the student, relative strengths and weaknesses, exam boards have been discussed, we can develop a plan. I am also able to offer additional material such as worksheets or practice questions if required.

Available on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday (Evenings).

Personal Description:
I am a hardworking student in year 12 who enjoys learning. I took my GSCE exams last year in which I achieved 8A*s and 2As. I was in the accelerated IGCSE Maths class taking my exam a year early and going on to sit an exam for an Additional Mathematics qualification where I got an A which was the highest achievable grade. I am patient and well organised. Science and Maths are my favourite subjects and I am hoping to study Natural Sciences at university level.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of mentoring a pupil once a week and also helping out at a homework club both in a voluntary capacity. As a mentor I have experience of one to one tutoring. Volunteering at the homework club has given me experience with the range of different people who come each week with varying needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn any subject. It is my desire to build confidence in any individual who wishes to study any subject they have an interest in or want help with. I want to help people enjoy learning. As I have recently taken these exams myself I am familiar with the subject content and exam technique necessary to achieve high grades.

I can offer 1-1 support in a comfortable learning environment from an inspirational, patient and friendly trainee teacher who has taught whole classes and taught children 1-1 in schools and tutored GCSE Maths privately over the last 4 years.

Teaching Experience:

I spent two years partaking in work experience working across KS1 and KS2 to work towards my degree. As part of my degree I have taught KS1 and KS2 classes and individual children in 1-1 interventions. Also, I privately have tutored before to good success for a young girl working towards her GCSE Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very intuitive to the learning styles of all children. I like to spend some time getting to know a child and how they learn so as when working with them, I can work on their individual strengths to develop their understanding of different subjects.
