Personal Description:
Hello! I'm a French teacher living in Hitchin and am very interested in meeting you if you need help with your French or would simply like to improve your existing knowledge of the subject. Private tuition is my favourite area of teaching and I would love to hear from you soon!

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher of French and have been teaching French for 18 years to people of all ages and abilities. I taught at primary, secondary and third level. I have been working for the Department of Education as Assistant Examiner of French for a number of years and also as Oral French Examiner. Moreover, I spent time in France teaching English as a foreign language. I have always given private French lessons to students but also to people who just want to improve or practise their French.

Tutoring Approach:

Private tuition has always appealed to me. Firstly, so much learning can take place due to the one-to-one dynamic and this therefore is very satisfying for both teacher and pupil. Secondly, it is a wonderful means of building a rapport between teacher and pupil. In fact, I have built up a number of friendships over the years with some former tutees!

Personal Description:
PhD in Experimental Psychology, I have taught young adults for 7 years and tutored in 1-to-1 for 4 years. My main interests are in cognition, and research methods and statistics.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in many different settings and also participated to outreaching activities, providing me with a wide scope of teaching methods and the flexibility needed to teach a range of students with different levels and backgrounds.
Specifically, I have been teaching research methods and statistics extensively. I also have been marking research/lab reports and essays, and have supervised successfully 30 project students over the last 3 years. This experience will allow me to support you with your project of any kind (e.g., dissertation). Please note however that I have very little experience in qualitative research and typically cannot help with such projects.
Should you be a student in my own institution (a London university), I will not be able either to take your offer, due to conflicts of interest (please mention your university when messaging me).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that you can teach and tutor at student level without dumbing down, by showing the relevance of the content to the student's interests.

I can provide support at any time if online, and face-to-face over weekends.

Personal Description:
Although I now have a PGCE in mathematics I have been lucky enough to get the chance to apply my skills in maths and physics whilst working as an engineer in the automotive and white goods industries. It gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and to get involved with companies such as Dyson, Jaguar, Austin Martin and then even allowed me to watch rockets being built in Russia.
I trained engineers and factory workers in the use of mathematical and physics based subjects. Some of those I taught had jobs which involved predominantly manual skills and so they were a little rusty when applying mathematical techniques. This makes me appreciate the nervousness some adults have when presented with a subject they may not have touched since leaving school.
After leaving the engineering world I had a brief spell working as a trainer in the insurance arena and then finally ended up teaching mathematics in secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for 8 years and then I taught engineers and factory workers for 10 years in the use of techniques involving mathematics and physics. After leaving the engineering world I trained adults to use a mainframe software program and then I went on to become a secondary school mathematics teacher. Finally I started tutoring from home working with various types of pupils. Some pupils have special needs, whilst others are working towards an A grade in their A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to know why the tutee wishes to study. It may be to improve their confidence or to pass an exam. This will then shape the nature of the tutoring sessions. My focus is to provide people with the knowledge that is most useful to them and their aspirations.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced tutor, proof reader and trainee teacher. Academically, I received my degree from the University of Birmingham (BSc Environmental Science) in 2013 achieving a 2.1 classification. In 2014-15 I studied MSc Surveying and Land Environmental Management at the University of Exeter (Penryn campus).

I am well organised, efficient and take a friendly approach to tutoring - as well as being hard-working and easy to get along with, I am reliable and prefer my lessons to be enjoyable as well as informative.

My passion for cooking, combined with another passion of mine; travel, has enabled me to spend considerable time in numerous countries giving me first hand knowledge of different languages/cultures and business environments. So far I have been fortunate to visit New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Korea, France, Spain, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Finland, Norway, Sweden and I intend to visit many more.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently studying for my PGCE part-time - and working as a supply teacher in local Birmingham schools.

I have previous tutoring experience with both young people (under 18) and international students since 2011. I have been able to help my past two tutees from UKtutors to A's in Geography GCSE and A Level respectively.
I also completed a 4 week internship in a New Zealand grammar school in the summer of August/September 2012, allowing me to gain classroom experience as well as helping out more recently in a primary school in Finland, teaching English.

Meanwhile, I tutor/help out my younger brother who is 18 and studying for his A levels.

I also have my own 'proofreading' enterprise and I have helped foreign students with their conversational English skills since 2011.

Tutoring Approach:

I take an informal approach but also ensure that sessions are structured well and tailored for each individual students' needs so every tutee is able to get the most from the session.

I am perfectly happy to re-arrange or cancel classes if necessary, I just ask to be notified at least 24 hours prior to the intended lesson.

I believe that my role in life is to help people to develop their English skills and communicate without misunderstanding.

And to experience as many different books and cakes as possible in one lifetime…!

Personal Description:
I am a PhD Candidate at the Glasgow Caledonian University, with Wireless Optical Communication as my area of research. I have earned my Bachelors' and Masters' degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, and have been a top-performer, academically, all throughout my education. My stronghold is basic as well as advanced Mathematics. I am also well-versed with the core concepts of Electronics and wired/wireless Communication.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students for more than 5 years working part-time whilst I was pursuing my bachelors and masters degree. I have taught young students Maths, Science and English. I have also been catering to the needs of students pursuing higher education, specifically in Electrical and Communications engineering, where I helped them out with core concepts of related subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in active learning, a quality which I try to bestow to my students as well. All students have their own way of understanding concepts, and each takes his/her own time to grasp those concepts. I am very patient with all my students and try to explain things in a manner in which they would easily comprehend. I also encourage my students to take down notes, which I believe is an easier and faster way of learning things.

Personal Description:
I am a German national but have lived in the UK for over 30 years, having studied and raised a family in Newcastle. I am a very friendly, patient and supportive person and I relate well to young people. Now that I am semi-retired I enjoy reading, working in my garden, looking after animals and I keep fit by walking and swimming.

Teaching Experience:

I am a very experienced teacher of German (former Head of Department) with a first class degree and well over 30 years of experience working in both the maintained and independent sectors. I have taught German to all levels and have achieved excellent results for my students at GCSE and A level throughout my career. My particular interest lies in working with the 11-16 age range and I specialise in preparing students for GCSE and IGCSE exams.

In my last post I was responsible for the organisation and conduct of public examinations, as well as for the introduction of IGCSE into our school. I am also currently working with the new syllabus for first examination in 2018.

For many years I successfully organised exchanges and residential stays in Germany, which I also accompanied and thoroughly enjoyed!

Tutoring Approach:

My pupils tell me that they appreciate my encouraging and thorough tutoring and that they enjoy our sessions. I provide varied lessons, focusing on speaking, reading, writing and listening skills and am flexible in my approach, using my experience to adapt to the pupils' individual needs. I am able to provide clear explanations of German grammar and have a wealth of materials to consolidate all aspects of my teaching.

I gain a great deal of satisfaction from seeing my pupils progress and succeed in their studies and love working on a one to one basis with young people. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss your needs and I look forward to hearing from you.

Personal Description:
Education PhD student - can capably and confidently meet the educational needs of any potential student. Previous students have jumped several grade boundaries, obtained A*'s and attended their first choice university.

I work enthusiastically and effectively with students at all stages of their educational journey across a wide range of subjects. I have tutored students at primary, secondary schools, and sixth forms as well as lecturing on MA programmes and mentoring at a high security youth prison. I also help with university admissions and personal statements.

Teaching Experience:

Guest Lecturer, Durham University March 2016
Invited to deliver workshops to MA students on the Research Methods in Education module at Durham University. Workshops were focused on the use of experimental and quasi-experimental design in Educational research.

Responsibilities included:
• Working in partnership with colleagues including administrative staff, lecturers, and the module convener to generate targets to direct student learning.
• Selecting session content and setting objectives for learning, designing lecture slides and producing resources to be used within workshops.
• Responding to student queries, providing feedback on assignments and suggesting reading materials.
• Facilitating discussion groups and encouraging participation and engagement through role play and team problem-solving tasks.

One-to-One Tutor October 2014 - Present
Volunteer tutor preparing sixth-form students to undertake final exams and transition into higher education or the work place.

Responsibilities included:
• Liaising with parents, schools, and individual students to generate targets to direct learning.
• Formulating schemes of work to support students' specific needs - this includes timetabling sessions, outlining session content and objectives, and producing any resources to be used within the session. This results in a highly personalised curriculum for each individual student.
• Regular evaluation and assessment of both student progress and satisfaction to further streamline curricula to suit student needs and improve quality of delivery.
• Marking assignments and grading exam papers, providing extensive written feedback and reports to parents and students.
• Creating interactive presentations, charts, graphs and infographics to illustrate and aid understanding of difficult concepts.

After-School Club Programme Co-ordinator October 2011 - July 2016
Programme co-ordinator for after-school Nature and Gardening Club at All Saints Primary School in Gilesgate and Arts & Crafts Club at St. Patrick's School, Langley Moor.

Responsibilities included:
• Devising own teaching methods, style and approach whilst independently delivering lessons to children in both Infant and Junior year groups.
• Designing detailed lesson plans for every session over entirety of academic year.
• Allocating volunteers to classes in need of Teaching Assistants. This required matching volunteers and teachers through interviews and a rigorous application process alongside timetabling and organising transport.

This is an abbreviated list of positions held over the last twelve months.

In addition to these, I have learnt how to find new, interesting ways of presenting information whilst working alongside the Education Department at the Welsh National Museum. These techniques were put to good use advising staff at Butetown History and Art Centre how to make exhibitions more accessible to the public.

Furthermore, I also worked alongside adults and young people with a range of special needs as a volunteer with the 'Durham Otters' swimming club, mentored at Hassockfield Youth Prison and delivered sex education lessons in secondary schools and sixth forms with Sexpression:UK. This has helped me to mature in my ability to talk, and more importantly relate to, young people from all backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

Above all I strive for lessons to be interesting and engaging.

I try to quickly understand students' needs to put them at ease and make sure they are not over or underworked. I'm friendly, always have a smile on my face and as a student myself, I empathise with the struggles of studentship.

My objective as an educator is to harness students' existing knowledge of popular culture to bridge the gap between the complex abstractions they encounter within academia and how these manifest in everyday life. I make classes interactive by drawing on student experience and selecting content considering the interconnection between the subject matter discussed in lessons and current news or debates on social issues.
