Personal Description:
I am a Foundation Year 2 doctor currently working in Brighton and Sussex University NHS Trust. I graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2015 with Distinctions in pre-clinical science, clinical science, medical science and clinical practice. I achieved a first-class honour in my BSc in Neuroscience and Mental Health. I obtained A* in GCSE Science and Maths as well as A (A* not introduced at the time) in A level Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

Pre-A level maths and science
I have always had a passion for teaching. During the course of my medical school, I have taught maths and science at various levels including GCSE and Year 11-14 with great success. I gained a tremendous amount of personal satisfaction from watching my students gaining confidence and interest in maths and science, as well as improvement in grade.

Medical student turoing
I have been involved in a variety of medical student teaching including OSCE/PACES teaching, mock examination examiners and EMQ teaching. I have also had experience in tutoring medical school applications/ personal statements and have been on the medical school interview panels at Imperial College School of Medicine.
I have gained qualification in the Toronto university online teaching course.

Note: I can tutor at my flat as well as at the tutee's flat. Travel/parking fee needs to be covered by the tutee.

Tutoring Approach:

Pre-A level maths and science
I believe that every student has a different way of learning and as a teacher, it is my job to explore the learning style specific to the student and it is my job to inspire interest and confidence in the student. Often, I get feedback from students that the best thing about my teaching is the fact that I made them feel more confident to tackle the problems themselves and to trust their own judgement. I believe that this is very important, especially in maths and science because this is where creativity and problem-solving skills begin. I also believe in creating a solid foundation. I encourage students to always work from first principle, not just memorise formulas and really think about the basics and start working it out from there in a logical way. I feel that this is especially important in tackling more complex problems, which is what a lot of students struggle with.

Medical student tutoring
OSCE/PACES teaching: I like to focus on the basics and I emphasise the importance of getting the technique right. I use case-based discussions to stimulate students to think of about the history, examination, investigation and management. I teach students how to formulate differential diagnoses and come up with a management plan.

EMQ teaching: I focus on the technique of asnwering questions. Every question has a key word which steer you in the right direction, and my focus is for students to learn to identify these key words and select the best posisble option.

Medical school application: I get to know my student, understand their strength and weaknesses as well as their motivation and experience and tweak it to formulate the best possible portfolio to present to the medical school.

Visiting Lecturer at the university level From last 3 years. Teaching students at the university level theoretically as well as wet lab experiments. I had 6 Nuffield bursary students to teach in the university in last 2 years. All of them are very competent and few of them went to imperial collage, cambridge, oxford and kings for the graduation.

Tutoring Approach:

If a student is not have an interest and intellectual in to the subject, I take it as a challenge. I prefer to correlate the tedious concept of science with the normal day to day life and give a flavor of importance or demand of a particular subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have just completed my forth full time year in teaching mainstream secondary school Design and Technology. I also have 3 years experience teaching A-level Design and Technology at a large sixth form college and GCSE Design and Technology in a Pupil Referral Unit for boys with behaviour difficulties and SEN (including Aspergers, Autism and Dyslexia.) Teaching Experience:

I carried out teacher training at a basic level with the University of Exeter in order to participate in the Students Associates Scheme. After this training I spent three weeks in a local secondary school where I actively participated in Geography and Religious Studies lessons, and was able to provide work plans for higher and lower achieving students. I also worked closely with students that had special educational needs.
I also have experience in teaching sports to groups of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

Personal Description:
I did nothing but one-to-one private biology tuition, based in Oxford, for 24 years and was widely regarded as 'Oxford's Premier Biology Tutor'. I have now moved away from Oxford and have been offering my services online only, nationally and worldwide, for the past three years via the medium of Skype and 'Scribblar' - an interactive online whiteboard that is better than face-to-face tuition as there is zero travelling and waiting time and cost and it is more intimate and concentrated than 'in-person' tuition. I charge 60 per hour normally but offer a 10 per hour discount for tuition before 3 pm on weekdays.

Teaching Experience:

27 years (the last three totally online) of one-to-one tuition in A-level, IB and GCSE biology.

Tutoring Approach:

Stick to the specification. Do ALL the past paper questions and go through them with the mark schemes. Take the exam. and get on with your life.

I like to work in a very methodical and structured fashion and not confuse effective work with hard work. The students who say at the end "yes, I learned biology - but, better still I learned how to study" are the ones with whom I know I have really succeeded.

Apart from an internet connection all that you need for tutorials is a thin A4 ring binder with a copy of the specification punched and put into the front and some colored dividers in the back. If you are a retake student I ask you to highlight the specification (in yellow with solid highlighter if you are quite happy with the content; dotted highlighter if you are a bit unhappy with it and no highlighter if you have not done it or have forgotten it). This will tell me where to start and I can estimate to within an hour or so how many lessons will be needed to 'reteach' the syllabus. Effectively I write a textbook for you and give you notes (to be filed in the colored dividers) via e-mail and Scribblar (my interactive online whiteboard) to fill in any gaps in your knowledge. As I cover the specification I highlight my copy in pink so that I can monitor progress. I have CDs of questions that I can post to you that you can work through - each CD is specific to one exam. board and contains not only the most recent AS/A2 papers and mark schemes but also the preceding many years of papers for that board, chopped up into topic headings. So, for example, it will take an hour to 'cover' The Heart and then I'll give you the questions specifically on the heart on that board to do before the next tutorial. It is all very straightforward and actually rather less hard work than doing it in a slapdash, non-systematic fashion. The study skills that you will learn will stand you in good stead throughout life.

I can also advise on coursework/practicals.

I have to say that both myself and Matthew have been incredibly impressed by you and your enthusiasm, preparation and encouragement. The fact that Matthew arranged the extra lesson this week is testament to this!
I know he can be a bit uncommunicative at times but he has told me how helpful the sessions have been.
I don't know if he told you but he has decided to have a gap year and personally I think he probably needs it to really work out what he wants to do. I think this has taken the pressure off him and I can honestly say he has been happier and worked harder since he made this decision.
If anything it has made him more focused about getting the best grades he can.

2017-2018 academic year: My program will provide the basis of all student with ability in "the Sciences and Mathematics" subjects (A's at GCSE level) to provide the opportunity to obtain the top grade in AS/A2 physics

The 'timetable' and order by which each part of the syllabus will be approached will follow the AQA examination board's timetable. For students joining after the commencement of the academic year, those parts of the syllabus already covered will be 'returned to' during the 'revision period' after Easter

My tutoring sessions are always: 2 hours. They can be taken either:

1. Once per week: full coverage of the syllabus (AS/A2: including Options) plus significant time, each week, devoted to answering questions based on past papers

2. Once per two weeks: full coverage of the syllabus (AS/A2: including Options) plus time, each week, devoted to answering questions based on past papers

In addition to having the 'physics abilities', students will need to understand how to approach examinations and examination questions. There are different variations, each year, but with detailed subject knowledge and significant practice on exam style and past paper questions there should be no type of exam question that should cause any concerns to any student

To ensure a top grade (A/A*) the student will need to commit to additional study, over and above these two hour sessions:

Subject notes will be provided each week, in advance of the lesson, covering the topic to be covered during the lesson - the student will be expected to have already gained an "overview" of the subject area prior to the lesson commencing and take additional notes during the lesson

Each week, following the lesson, each student should complete sufficient exam style and past paper questions to ensure that they have obtained a comprehensive understanding of the subject area and detailed knowledge of 'typical' exam questions

Additional background reading will also be provided that will reach beyond the syllabus giving a deeper understanding of the "concepts" and "background" of the area of physics being studied - this will ensure clarity on the "physics concepts" that are examined in the final year papers each year

Following each lesson (excluding revision and examination question and answering sessions) the diagrams and other material used during each lesson will be provided, so that the student can compare the information with the notes provided and taken during each lesson - building up a complete 'library' of detailed knowledge on each subject area in the syllabus

It is expected that the student will spend (at least) two hours each week, in addition, to the two hour lesson and all school/college work

NOTE: The work program detailed above should not be at the exclusion of the students 'other subjects' - however much time is allocated to physics each week should be replicated with the student's other subjects

Essential planning:

To be prepared for the end year (A2/AS) examinations it will be important to start preparing early

By Christmas time (2017) each student should have produced an 'outline' revision timetable, covering all subjects - without going into detail here, the plan should include all 'known activities' (school/college/personal holidays, mock exam dates, field trips etc.) and periods allocated to revision of each of your subjects, so that a balanced and comprehensive plan for all subjects will attained

Note - 'downtime' should also be included - students should have a practical and balanced approach to secure the best results possible. Peaking too early or 'brain overload' are recipes for underperformance in examinations

I will assist, as required, throughout the period up to when the end year exams commence - this revision timetable will change over the period until the exams start, with the final months becoming more detailed - it will assist in allocating your 'known' resources

Tutoring style:

My lessons are highly interactive

In addition to the printed notes, the student will be expected to add additional notes of their own during each session

My students are fully engaged in all of the lessons and are expected to interact within the lesson

Worked examples and opportunities for students to complete typical exam questions will be part of every lesson

The lessons are delivered from my widescreen laptop making use of theory, pictures/diagrams, interactive GIFs, short videos to help introduce topics and emphasis on specific core material

On approaching (mock and final year) examinations periods:

1. I provide one session on "examination technique" (following AQA best practice) and adopt a rigorous question answering method to ensure that:

(a) Maximise the marks obtained for all mathematical and comprehensive style questions and

(b) In the event that any of my students fall into a "grade boundary" this question answering methodology will ensure the examiner will recognise the 'knowledge of physics' of my students and should ensure an upward grade where required and

2. Take the students through past examination papers to ensure that each 'style' of AQA question solving is well practiced

Flexibility will always be part of the process - if there are specific areas or concepts the student wishes to spend more time on, this time will be allocated

Evidence suggests that teaching is much more effective when a student can connect with their teacher.
