Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching drama students from the of age 6 - 60 since 1999. With some of them moving on to be successful actors themselves. However, I do understand that not all students want to be actors and approach each individuals needs accordingly.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that drama isn't just about 'acting' but also provides an outlet for self expression, it develops imagination and artistic awareness; it increases social and mental freedom, fluency of speech, self respect, self confidence and above all... it's FUN!

Drama gives students the opportunity to learn how to co-operate with others, aids orderly thinking and the ability to organise. The benefits do not only accrue through students participating actively in dramatic activity, they also learn through observing others.

I will provide what we hope you will see as the perfect balance of education, play, and stimulation. I run to a carefully planned curriculum paying equal attention to ALL my student's needs in our group sessions. I am also committed to a two way communication process with parents to ensure that we have total understanding and support.

I use practical explorations on how to make, perform and respond to drama. Our workshops encourage students with:

Confidence
Self Expression
Team Working Skills
Speaking and Listening
Emotional Intelligence
Community Involvement
Development of Practical, Creative and Intellectual Skills
Use The Student's Own Work As A Stimulus
Understand The Importance Of The Process
Cross Curricular Links With Literacy

Personal Description:
Hi!

I can help to be better at English - whether it`s speaking, listening, reading or writing.

____________________-

I will assess you and then work with you to pinpoint your problems providing targeted teaching that explains the correct English for that context.

If your formal understanding of English is good but you want to become more fluent, we can look at culture, slang and social language to help you fit in better with your peers. Often, informal language is the key to better business networking - you need to be able to chat in the bar after a meeting to make contacts!

Similarly, if your formal English is good but your accent is a problem, we can work together to improve this. To understanding speakers from other countries, much of what native speakers have trouble with is their stress patterns and intonation.

Whether you need help with revision for exams, want to learn for fun, want to improve your chances of business or just need someone to support you to study harder, I can help you!

I can also work with children 10+ - although my qualification is an adult one, the methods are the same and I have many, many hours of classroom experience with junior-age students and teenagers.

Teaching Experience:

I`ve recently qualified as an English language teacher, am working for Languages United, provide 1:1 lessons and have multiple previous experience in assisting speakers of other languages to develop their English.

I`ve also worked at the City of Bath College as a student support worker for 2 years to students with learning differences, learning difficulties and emotional/behavioural problems to enable them to successfully attend college

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed but thorough!

I like my students to feel at ease when we work together - a happy student learns best! I always do an initial assessment for each student and will ask you about your preferred learning styles: maybe you like to do things by rules and learn lots of grammar, maybe you prefer to play lots of games.

Similarly, you might want to focus on your speaking, listening, writing or reading or you might need specialised language for business, academia or socialising. If there's just one area you need to focus on, it's no problem.

I will always provide a lesson that meets your style and needs. Whether you want serious work or lots of games, and whether you need work on your formal or informal language, it will always be based on proper grammar, authentic use and rules.

Personal Description:
Having recently completed my History PhD and served as a seminar leader for first year undergraduate students, I have the necessary skills to help and support learners at different stages of academic development - from GCSE up to university level. As an early career historian actively involved in writing and publishing, I am eager to share the knowledge and skills I have developed over the years. Moreover, I am passionate about teaching and am eager to offer high quality and personalised academic tuition. I have received this kind of support myself during my time as an undergraduate and postgraduate student and feel that this has impacted enormously upon my academic success.

The qualifications I hold are:
University of Oxford: BA Hons Modern History
University of Durham: MA Medieval History
University of York: PhD Medieval History

I believe that any tutor-tutee relationship ought to be shaped by the goal of meeting the tutee's academic needs. This is best achieved by:
A friendly, relaxed atmosphere
An academic schedule centred around the tutee's needs
An agreement between tutor and tutee regarding academic schedule

Teaching Experience:

As an undergraduate seminar leader at the University of York, I taught first year students a variety of subjects, ranging from historical skills to particular historical case studies such as Tudor kingship. This required me to develop a number of teaching approaches including small group work, individual student presentations and collective group discussion.

As part of my teaching duties I have regularly assessed and provided feedback on students' written work; prepared students for examinations; provided pastoral support to students struggling with a variety of personal and academic issues; and worked effectively as part of team with fellow members of staff in the History Department at the University of York.

My particular academic expertise - the area of my PhD thesis, in which I currently work - is the economic and political history of the later medieval period. I am, however, very widely read in a number of historical periods, ranging from the early medieval period through to twentieth-century world history. I studied periods such as these as an undergraduate student, and am capable of teaching any historical period/theme up to an undergraduate level.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that any tutee's needs are best served through the tutor's adoption of a student-centred teaching approach, based on the learners' academic needs. After agreeing to meet with a tutee for the first time, we would have a conversation in order to identify the areas in which the tutee needed to improve. We would then agree, together, upon an academic schedule most likely to result in the tutee's improving in these areas. Typically, this academic schedule would be devised through making recourse to the relevant exam board specification, and sessions would be structured around how to approach answering exam questions in problem areas. Considerable time would be devoted to improving the tutee's confidence and motivation to succeed. By intensively working upon these issues, the tutee's general historical skills will improve, and he/she will develop as a learner.

Personal Description:
I'm and experienced tutor and teacher. Not just in the academic sense but in the practical sense too. I've worked in business, including six years as European Sales and Marketing Director of Pentax in Brussels and ten years as President of a French IT company. Real practical experience and real experience too in Politics - I was, for example, a candidate at the last General Election! So I can interest and enthuse my students in History, Politics and Business.
I have two sons, one of whom has just completed his GCSE's and moved on to the IB and the other is studying Film at Falmouth University, so I'm very aware of the tough choices and hard work facing students today and I'm there to provide both a strong level of academic support as well as listening and advising them.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring one-to-one for a number of years now for CET and Randstad, both in students homes and in secondary schools. I have also taught History and Politics at Abbey College in Cambridge for two and a half years. Each summer sees me teaching the Oxford Royale Academy 'Business & Enterprise' Course and indeed, I am also responsible for writing and updating the courses myself. I have considerable experience and knowledge of advising students and parents on their way through the UCAS process.

Tutoring Approach:

I seek to establish and identify the individual needs and characteristics of each student. I have a strong belief in the importance of inspiration in tutoring and feel that the role of the tutor is as much about building confidence as it is about reinforcing knowledge.
I tailor work to each student and have a full and comprehensive database of materials and information in all my subjects built up over a number of years and covering all exam boards.

Personal Description:
I am currently on a gap year, having finished sixth form this year, and intend to take a BEd in primary education next year. I studied Maths, French and Spanish at A-Level, hence why those are the subjects I am currently offering.

I have a keen interest in teaching and know how difficult and stressful it can be to get the necessary grades. I also know that children often tire of learning things that they don't find interesting and have tutored children successfully by relating their interests to what they are studying. I have experience teaching people with learning difficulties.

Teaching Experience:

EAL mentoring
Experience teaching and tutoring KS1
Workshop for KS2 children on how to build a motor vehicle (design, electronics, aerodynamics, etc.)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will vary depending on the tutee. While I will make lesson plans, they will be more of a guideline than a fixed plan. I am willing to answer any queries that may arise between sessions and can be contacted by email or text.

Personal Description:
Having achieved 7 A*s and 2 As at GCSE, before 3 A grades (English Language, History, General Studies) and a B in Geography at A-level, I realised education was a field I enjoyed and wanted to pursue. Therefore, I completed an Education Studies and History degree at Durham University, before going on to teach at the hugely successful Bryanston Independent School in Dorset for 6 years (2008-2014). My track record of GCSE and A-level results is excellent with every student achieving at least one grade higher than predicted. I have experience in a variety of units and topics ranging from Medieval Britain and early modern Europe, to post WW2 Britain. However, I specialise in the Tudor period. I'm currently taking a break from teaching to pursue a running career but want to keep my teaching experience up to date. Teaching and tutoring is something I really enjoy and will go back to full time in the future. I believe my various roles at Bryanston, alongside my experience as a top level athlete, enable me to help and inspire students from all walks of life to maximize their full potential and achieve their desired goals.

Teaching Experience:

At Bryanston I started as an academic resident before completing a GTP teaching qualification in History, which included teaching practice in a state secondary school and primary school. Then I completed my NQT qualification before going on to mentor other GTP students and American post-graduate trainee teachers. I taught Year 9 History for 6 years, GCSE History for 6 years, AS-level History for 4 years, A-level History coursework for 3 years. I also taught International Baccalaureate History for a year. I completed a number of continuous professional development (CPD) courses such as implementing and marking A-level coursework, improving sixth form study skills, use of IT in the classroom (iPad apps). On top of this I was a resident throughout my time, in both Senior and Junior boys (assistant housemaster) boarding houses so have extensive knowledge and experience of working with 14-18 students. I was also a tutor (one-to-one) to 12 students throughout the 6 years which involved weekly meetings to ensure they maximised their potential in academic, sporting and pastoral arenas. I also regularly led revision and study skill sessions, particularly during the exam period. My other roles included being Head of Cross-country and Assistant Head of Athletics. I'm also currently in the process of becoming an exam assessor for OCR. This knowledge and experience, as well as my own GCSE and A-level qualifications, allows me to also provide reading, writing and study skills tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a firm believer in learning and teaching, rather than teaching and learning. I also believe in assessing students learning styles in order to enable them to learn via methods and processes which they find easiest to understand. Content is obviously important but study skills should be incorporated at the same time. Learning should be enjoyable, memorable and interesting to the extent the student wishes to learn beyond the desire to simply pass exams. I am a huge fan of multi-faceted sessions incorporating visual, audio and kinaesthetic activities, and where possible will make use of IT to help in this regard.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year student currently studying MSc Mathematics at the University of Bristol. I am currently on track to achieve a first class honours in my degree.

At GCSE level, I obtained 10 A* and an A, with A*s in Mathematics and Additional Mathematics as well as joint award science.

For A level I studied Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry, achieving an A* grade in each subject. I was also the recipient of the JP McManus All Ireland Scholarship, awarded to outstanding students in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, based on A level performance.

I also have experience with the Sixth Term Entrance Paper II and III (STEP) and may be able to tutor for this on request.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring family friends in GCSE and A level.

The bulk of my experience teaching comes from swim instruction and coaching. I am an STA approved swimming instructor, obtaining my qualification in 2011. I have taken weekly group lessons, daily intensive lessons and one-to-one lessons with children aged 6 years old and up.
This summer I have worked at Camp Winaukee in New Hampshire, USA as head swimming instructor. Coordinating swimming lessons for the camp and coaching the swim team.

Tutoring Approach:

In all my teaching experience, I believe that preparation is key to a good lesson. Prior to a lesson I like to talk with students, to find out what areas they need most help with or questions they have difficulty with. I then prepare a suitable lesson, gather appropriate resources or questions so I am ready for the lesson and can be an efficient teacher.

I like my lessons to be intensive and focused on a particular area as I think this makes the student more familiar with the topic at hand. A level tuition will be more exam orientated, focusing on good exam technique as well as understanding of content.
