Personal Description:
I am 53 years of age, married with 3 children.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Secondary Science School teacher and have 9 years experience as a private tutor

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one to one tuition can greatly increase both a students confidence and knowledge in a subject. I try to create an informal and relaxing atmosphere by getting to know the student. I have an extensive knowledge of all the syllabuses. I use very effective methods to enable the student to grasp any difficult concepts and eventually concentrate on exam questions and technique. I help the student to take responsibility for their own learning and understand the best methods for learning (such as use of mind maps). The great majority of my students have achieved exam results which have far exceeded their expectations.

Personal Description:
My name is Carey, I am 22 years-old and am currently studying for my BA Hons degree at University of Sunderland. I study French and Spanish (ab. initio) as a dual degree (which means that both subjects are equally-weighted.) I have been studying French for around 9 years and received an A at GCSE and a B at A-level. I have only been studying Spanish since I started at university, but I feel that my knowledge of French has allowed me to absorb and pick up the language quickly and efficiently.

After university, I plan on applying to do a PGCE course and going into teaching, so I feel that tutoring would be helping me as much as it would be helping others studying the same subjects.

In my spare time I enjoy reading and writing in English, French and Spanish and I keep an allotment with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. Further pastimes include painting, knitting and cooking.

Teaching Experience:

Although I have, so far, had little teaching experience I feel that I am confident enough in both subjects to tutor the ages I have specified. In June 2012, I completed a two-week placement with Burnside High School in Wallsend for my "Students as Tutors" module at university; this entailed observing lessons, helping with full-class tasks and carrying out small tutoring tasks along the way. I feel that this placement improved my tutoring skills substantially as I was gaining first-hand experience in a teaching environment.

Furthermore, in April 2012 I tutored a student for their GCSE written Spanish exam, which I again felt improved my tutoring skills further because I was able to gain experience in giving one-to-one tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

Through studying how languages are learned at university (in a module entitled "Psychology of Language Learning"), I am aware that it is important to provide a pupil with wide range of materials and resources, authentic and from the textbook, and to centre the focus on the work which is provided by the school/course curriculum.

When tutoring, I will ensure to cover and help with the work that the school/course has provided, whilst also helping the student to work out their strengths and also which aspects of the language they need to focus on more.

I am patient and friendly and, as I am still a student myself, I feel that I will be able to understand and relate to the people I will be tutoring. I feel that it is important to provide a student with a friendly, trustworthy relationship whilst also remaining professional.

Personal Description:
I am a professional and dedicated native English teacher with years of experience behind me.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained TEFL experience within varied teaching roles, both abroad and in the UK. In my previous roles I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults in companies, schools, and summer camps. I have taught General English, Business English, and exam classes to groups and one-to-one students in school and business environments. I also have experience of teaching students with dyslexia. This variety has enabled me to continually assess my style of teaching and keep me on my toes!

Working in such roles has given me crucial insight into the needs of the student. I am extremely patient and understand the frustration that can arise when learning, whether it is a new language or subject. I realise that people acquire knowledge through varied means so I am keen to adjust my teaching style to benefit my students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a mature, responsible, and eclectic teaching approach, as well as a good sense of humour, is crucial for a successful learning environment.

I offer a custom-made service, whether you need to improve your general English skills, your writing, or simply build your confidence. I also have years of experience in teaching Business English and Exam English (IELTS/FCE/CAE). Whatever you need help with, I am happy to focus my lessons on what you require.

I offer Skype lessons and professional proofreading for people who may not be able to meet face-to-face.

I am available to tutor at your home, workplace, or in a quiet cafe in Cambridge. I can also tutor in Central London.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Plymouth and hold a maths degree. I am training to become a teacher and tutoring is a key stepping stone on that ladder. I have studied maths as my primary subject from an early age and have a good knowledge of subjects like differentiation, integration, algebra, and statistics.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a personal tutor for two years and specialise in GCSE level maths.

I was enrolled in the SAS (Student Associates Scheme) for university students last year where I took part in the training course. I attended a series of lectures on modern teaching techniques and how to work with children.

I have also worked part-time for six years at TeamSport Bristol, a karting circuit, where I regularly am required to work with children. I was a junior instructor before I went to university where I had to brief young karters on the dangers of the sport and ensure that they were under control.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that many tutors have a good knowledge but fail to incite any interest in the subject. I find this a crying shame as maths can be fascinating if it taught in the correct way. As a recent graduate of the UK schooling system I have a modern perspective on the curriculum and can teach according to this. As a younger person I am also be able to connect more with a tutee rather than someone who may be working by an outdated approach. I also hold excellent IT skills and am proficient with Microsoft Office.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate in economics of the LSE and I am currently in the process of completing a graduate diploma in mathematics with the University of London (so far heavily outperforming the average in examinations). In late September I start my master's degree at a top-40 globally ranked business school.

I am reliable and responsible individual. I currently work part time for a major charity in Sheffield in fundraising project management. I am looking to become a private tutor to raise some additional funds to cover the cost of living during my master's degree studies.

References and academic articles can be supplied on request.

Teaching Experience:

I am responsible for assisting with the induction and training of new volunteers during my current role. I have often taught others during my time at university and very much enjoyed the experience. I now have considerable experience teaching A-Level and GCSE maths and economics over the past year.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is crucial to impart a developed understanding of the subject to create solid foundations and then build question answering techniques on top of them. This will allow students to improve their confidence in tackling exam questions whilst building the enthusiasm and general problem solving abilities that they will need to be successful at university. I will certainly be living in the Derbyshire area until late September. I am willing to build long term teaching relationships in which the learning requirements of each student are understood and responded to, thus allowing their capabilities with the subject to be developed as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.

Personal Description:
My students find me enthusiastic, supportive, cordial and professional. I am responsive, a good listener, able to make complex ideas accessible and exciting, and can balance exploratory, individualised and structured approaches to learning. Ultimately, I believe that curiosity, engagement, and questioning are the keys to being both successful in exams and developing a life-long love of English.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced A level English specialist tutor who has taught in three 'Beacon Status' sixth-form colleges, all of which have been rated 'outstanding' by OFSTED. I have an excellent track-record of results in terms of both 'value-added' and 'raw' grades and am able to inspire and motivate students to attain their potential in English. I have managed an outstanding department of 10 teachers and 850 A level students for four years in a sixth form college in Surrey, introducing new creative and digital methods into daily practice and have also worked at Britain's top state-sector sixth form college in Cambridge.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in drawing from a wide range of teaching methods to make a student's experience of English varied, fresh and challenging as well as identifying the particular needs of each individual to ensure that the right skills are prioritised and tackled rigorously.
Many students appreciate having a clear direction to learning and I believe in signposting different areas in a focused way - whether the skills involve close reading, constructing a debate, understanding or applying theory, researching contexts, or working on essay techniques and planning past papers.

Personal Description:
I am a patient, creative person who runs really far and loves science (and coffee!). I've just moved here from Canada, where I have lived my whole life.

Academically I have earned a bachelor in science with honours specializing in mathematics and biology and a master's degree in mathematics. My maths research interests are primarily looking at problems in infectious diseases through and maths lens in order to come up with the solution that will likely help the most. If you're interested in this stuff, ask me! I'd be happy to share.

I do not have a current CRB check, but would be happy to get one if that was necessary.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 10 years of tutor experience. I've tutored students between the ages of 12 and 30 (year 7 to university level). I primarily teach science, specializing in maths and biology. I have held several teaching assistant roles at the University of Ottawa, Canada in mathematics.

I volunteered for an organization called Let's Talk Science whose primary objective is to improve science literacy to all ages. For children, this involves teaching science (and maths in my case!) in an interesting and engaging manner. This involves experiments, hands-on activities and outreach programs. I created two programs which directly linked to the curriculum taught in the classroom.

I also have experience teaching and working with children who have been diagnosed with various learning and development disorders. These include ADD, autism and Asperger syndrome.

Tutoring Approach:

I love teaching science at any level to people who will listen.

It's important to me to understand my student's motivation and goals so we can reach them. These goals can range from just passing a course, attaining a specific grade or having a deeper understanding of the material. I try to make questions as interesting as possible, and relevant to the student.

I am very patient and creative. I strive to come up with ways to explain concepts to students to make it relevant to them.

During tutoring sessions I strive to teach my students how they can teach themselves. As odd as it may seem, I want my students to become self-sufficient enough to not need my help any more. This is done through study skills, building the students confidence, introducing methods of learning students may not be aware of and asking the students a lot of questions. I try not to lecture during a session, but instead as questions that may help the student come up with the answer themselves. Of course, I am there to help fill in the missing gaps in knowledge where it is appropriate.

I am pretty flexible when it comes to a location. If a student works best at home (which is easily accessible by transit) then we'll work there. If a completely quiet place is where you need to be, maybe a library is where we should meet; and if you work best with ambient noise, a coffee shop is probably our best bet. If for whatever reason we can't meet in person, tutoring sessions over Skype work just as well for me!

Personal Description:
I am currently a clinical medical student at UCL. I graduated from Oxford University with a degree in Medical Sciences in July 2014.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously tutored younger students both at my secondary school and my sixth form in small groups. I have also individually home tutored. In addition, I tutored students via email who were applying to study medicine at Oxbridge.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to guide my tutoring based on the needs and skill level of the tutee in question. Because of my extended knowledge of the topics that I am offering, I am able to adapt based on the areas that they find most challenging, or would like to study in the most detail.
