Tutoring Approach:

The purpose of hiring a tutor is to understand concepts which a student neither can understand in a class nor himself/herself. Only tutoring gives a student one to one attention of the teacher and thus better understanding.
My approach is to both develop concepts and help the students to get good grades as well as both are important.Teaching students how to attempt the questions in exams.I am quite a friendly person and never get irritated.I am ready to teach a difficult concept 10 times to a student until he understands

Personal Description:
I am a bilingual (German/English) American living, working, and studying (PhD, King's College London) in the UK. I have 7 years' experience teaching English as a foreign language in Germany and Austria and now offer German tutoring as well, as I am fluent in German (I'm constantly mistaken for German in Austria!). Because I learned German as a second language, I have insights into it that a native speaker often will not have. These can help you to learn the language better.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English for a company called englishexpertise in Bonn, Germany. Our biggest client was Deutsche Post World Net, the parent company of DHL. Other clients included a German government ministry, Thyssen Krupp, and an IT company. I also gave English conversation classes at the University of Bonn.

I moved to Vienna in 2007 and taught English there with my own company. My biggest client was the City of Vienna, but I also taught for several language schools and other companies. I also acted as a linguistic consultant for a company that wished to design language tests and courses focusing on sociolinguistic competence, something very few people before have ever learned in a classroom. I bring these same insights to teaching German.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is very much that of a facilitator. I focus exactly on the areas students need, while trying to promote their understanding of the language, rather than memorization. I do this by filling in the cultural context. Students learn the language by stealth while using it to learn about and discuss things they like anyway -- as far as this is possible within the constraints of what they need to learn, of course. I believe learning should be fun; I learned German so quickly and easily because I enjoyed it and my teachers supported me.

Personal Description:
I'm a final-year PhD student at the University of St. Andrews Philosophy Departments, my thesis topic is on 'Moral Demands and Scalar Morality', supervised by Tim Mulgan and John Skorupski. My main interests are in meta-ethical study of normativity, moral psychology and neuropsychology, the debate between internalists and externalists with regard to reasons, supererogation, normativity of aesthetics, philosophical methodology and intuitions, Aristotle and modern Virtue Ethics.

I'm also a native Russian speaker.

P.S. I normally teach from home; I'm willing to travel only for an additional fee which will depend on the location. I can also tutor small groups of up to 5 people for 20/h (Russian) and 25/h (Philosophy/Critical Thinking).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching philosophy at St. Andrews for the past 3 years. I'm especially competent in the fields of Moral and Political Philosophy, Meta-Ethics, Ancient Philosophy, British Empiricism, Philosophy of Rationality and Action, Epistemology, Aesthetics and Film Philosophy.

I have 4 years of part-time experience in individual language tuition and translation of Russian language, covering all language levels and including tuition of basic survival Russian for business and tourist trips.

Tutoring Approach:

This will largely depend on the individual goals and competences of each student. However, normally it will require the student to do a fair amount of reading and writing prior to class. We would normally discuss the readings during the tutorial, I will clarify any difficult ideas and concepts, give comments on previously submitted written work.

Again, Russian-language tuition depends on individual goals and competences of each student. With complete beginners I prefer to focus a lot on reading and (functional) writing, and develop a strong foundation to allow for independent study. With more advanced students I often find using either classic Russian literature or journals and other periodicals is very helpful.

Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Spanish with many years of experience in teaching the language to children, young people in their GCSE and A Level courses, and adults who want to learn Spanish for business or holidays. I have a very interactive and friendly approach to teaching. The structure of the courses is very clear from the beginning but, ultimately, the content and the pace of the lessons is always determined by the students. The emphasis is on having good fun while learning, and a lot of the material used in the lessons is original. As a native speaker, I always make sure that the learning experience also includes cultural aspects of the country. I am absolutely sure that you will enjoy the courses.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher of Spanish and a native speaker of the language. For the last 20 years, I have taught Spanish at different Secondary schools in Kent. I have also taught the language privately to adults wanting to learn or improve their command of the language for business or holiday purposes, and also to young people wanting to improve their chances of a good GCSE or A Level grade in Spanish. I am an examiner for AQA and I have taught Spanish GCSE and A Level courses for Edexel and AQA for many years. So, I am very familiar with the course contents.

Tutoring Approach:

The lessons that I teach are always interactive and practical. Students dictate both the content and the pace of the lessons and the aim is always to make the learning experience enjoyable. For example, if you are an adult wanting to improve your Spanish for holidays, we would reproduce in the lessons the situations that you would normally find yourself in while on holiday in Spain or any other Spanish-speaking country: greeting people, ordering food and drink, finding your way around, buying things, travelling around, asking for help, socialising, etc... As a native speaker, I always make sure that the learning experience also includes cultural aspects of the country.

Personal Description:
I studied architecture then moved into the world of film and commercials as a set designer, training at the BBC and moving into the freelance world working on a variety of projects as a Set Designer and Stylist. My drawing skills have always been central to my varied art and design career .
In film I collaborated with a variety of creatives including directors ,lighting, costume, makeup, special effects designers, which was enriching and inspirational. Then I began to paint for other designers on their projects and my artwork became a larger part of my work.
Now I work mainly from my studio in Wimbledon on commissions (including painting ) for films & interiors, portrait commissions and my own personal projects in between tutoring.Drawing, painting, photoshop, collage, photography and model making are used in many of my projects.
I continue to be passionate about the visual world, creating and sharing my skills and experience, carefully designing my sessions to respond to the students requirements in an enjoyable and rewarding way.

Teaching Experience:

In recent years I found people came to my studio for advice and inspiration. I was then invited to be a visiting artist at a school in Kingston and began taking workshops for groups of varying age groups and abilities.
I have designed and run workshops for 'Gifted and Talented Children' and have recently been invited to devise workshops for the V&A.Recently I devised and supervised a project for a final year textile design student at Manchester University to work on a project with a working designer .The students I work with at the moment age from 6 years to adults. From Scholarship Applications to students needing help with university projects to professionals requiring assistance with projects.
My City & Guilds course for Delivering Learning enabled me to carefully design the projects to suit the students and their individual requirements.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a great believer in the unique value of creative skills to build confidence and enrich our lives in so many ways.
My sessions are carefully considered and devised to encourage my students to develop their talents and make it an inspirational and enjoyable experience.One-to-one Tutorials are a great opportunity to work on your own skills to enable you to produce that art & design portfolio, better pieces for your GCSE course work or for the practising artist or designer to inspire innovative ideas & concepts, alongside the exploration of materials, process and techniques.

Personal Description:
I have lived in Lancaster for almost 14 years. I came to University in this city and never left. I live with my husband and two crazy kittens. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy reading, stitching, science fiction and fantasy movies and tv shows and keeping fit (I work out and swim twice a week).
I have a BA in English (2:1) and a Masters in Literary Studies. However, I get the most satisfaction out of teaching maths.

Teaching Experience:

Qualified with PGCE in Secondary English, Qualified Teacher Status awarded 2007
Qualified Teaching and Learning Skills (QTLS) awarded 2013

Last OFSTED grade: Graded Good (2) with elements of Outstanding (1) practice

2010 - 2011
Worked on an army training preparation course teaching English functional skills to troubled and disadvantaged teenagers who were aiming to join the armed forces.

2011 - 2012
Taught maths and English basic skills qualifications to adults in various work places

2012 - 2014
I worked full time as a tutor for adults, teaching the maths and English functional skills aspects of adult apprenticeships in Health and Social Care.

2014 - present
I work as a Functional Skills specialist, advising and training assessors on how to deliver functional skills Maths and English as part of their apprenticeship programmes.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to work one to one, focusing on building up confidence and security. I have worked with some very nervous learners and some who have had negative teaching experiences in the past.

I use minimal ICT, I prefer the old fashioned methods of paper and pencil. I design most of my own resources, based on the functional skills idea that maths and English should be relevant to the person who is learning'.

I strongly believe that there is no such thing as 'bad at maths'. The people I have tutored have not previously been taught in a way that works for them.

Many of my learners have gone on to higher education, have started their own businesses and have passed competency tests in maths for EYPS, Teacher Training and Nursing Degree courses.
