Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Politics, English and German with an International House qualification to teach English as a foreign language to adults.

Since 2001 I have been engaged on a university research and publishing project, based in London and Cambridge, that charts the reception of British and Irish authors in Europe, from Francis Bacon to James Joyce.

A significant part of my professional role involves editing and proof-reading academic texts, and I'm happy to undertake this for tutees.

I am also a freelance researcher, writer and curator of exhibitions on contemporary social and political cartoons, such as 'Coping with the Relations', commissioned by the Goethe-Institut and British Council as an international touring exhibition. Amongst other publications I co-authored the book *Deutschland und seine Nachbarn* in 2000 as a resource for political education in German schools.

I am an enthusiastic European with a keen interest in global affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring students in English, Politics and German for many years, as well as working as a business language trainer in companies across London.

Previously I taught English, German and Politics in England (GCSE and A-level), and English as a foreign language at all levels in grammar schools in Austria and Germany. I also taught English as a foreign language to trainee German teachers of English and for Academic & Special Purposes (law, business studies, social sciences) as well as British cultural studies at the University of Osnabruck, Germany, for 8 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe patience, appropriate pace and empathetic attention to an individual's learning needs are essential for anyone helping others to understand often complex ideas and concepts. I also believe successful learning results from both the learner's and teacher's motivation, enthusiasm and interest in the subject. These are principles that inform my role as a tutor.

I much prefer one-to-one or small-group tutoring, particularly where if a foreign language is involved. I believe the intensity of experience such interaction provides is the next best thing to direct engagement with a foreign language in the context in which it is naturally spoken. This is borne out by my own experience as a foreign-language learner.

Personal Description:
I am a young professional with a strong background in volunteer mentoring with children and young people, as well as a solid academic resume. I was home educated (tutorial-based) through primary and secondary school, and went on to study English Literature and History at the University of Edinburgh.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working since June 2011 at Mackenzie School of English, teaching English as a second language to foreign high school students.

Also, I have been a private tutor since February 2011, working with a range of ages and levels in both English Literature and History.

As well as my professional experience, I have been involved in youth work, summer camps, and one-to-one mentoring of young people for the past eight years or so. Working at summer camps has given me experience in both group work - teaching and leading discussions - as well as in one-to-one mentoring. Currently I am involved in a weekly youth club here in Leith, working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people from the local community.

Tutoring Approach:

Coming from a rather unconventional educational background, I would bring with me a deep passion for the need to create a tailored and bespoke educational experience for each individual young person. I know how incredible my own learning experience has been, instilling within me a value and love of learning that will remain with me my whole life. I would approach tutoring with this same passion. Learning excites and challenges me, and I believe that it has become limited in the classroom at times. When a young person can see someone else passionate and excited about an aspect of knowledge and understanding, the ramifications are huge. Not only does tutoring provide an avenue for this one-to-one mentoring, but I believe it is also the most powerful method of teaching. It is in that bond of mutual regard and respect that true learning occurs. These passions and beliefs are foundational to my approach of tutoring and mentoring.

Personal Description:
I am very passionate about films, theatre, the media industry. I am currently in my second year of a BA Hons in Film Studies at Edge Hill University, living away from home during the week but always available on weekends. I am hardworking, dedicated to my studies and after my undergraduate degree I am hoping to continue my studies with a Masters degree.

I also love to learn languages, currently able to speak 4 fluently (English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi) and also learning Spanish in my free time.

Teaching Experience:

I have a younger sister who is following my path into Film Studies, not knowing a thing before starting her A Level in it she is now predicted an A*. I have held short after school lessons for her and other family members in this particular field and the outcome has always been satisfying.

I have also started my TEFL course (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which helps me gain a qualification in teaching the English language.

Tutoring Approach:

The lessons will be about the student, and not the teacher. Therefore everything will be tailored to areas you wish to improve (spoken communication, written skills, reading, accent, listening)

I have a calm and relaxed approach to tutoring, understanding the problems and weaknesses in people and using those to bring out the best in them. If I can see passion within the student then I will do my personal best to bring out the potential in my students.

Personal Description:
My name is Amy, I'm currently training to be a Primary School teacher at Durham University having just completed my undergraduate degree in Music at the University of York. I'm originally from Hertfordshire and have recently moved to Durham, I am really enjoying my teacher training so far and hope to get my first teaching post here. My interests include playing the flute and cornet in various music groups at the University as well as drawing and painting.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst at Sixth Form College, I worked for a private tuition company called Kumon, tutoring children aged 4-16 with their maths and English work.
Throughout my undergraduate degree at the University of York, I was actively involved with the Music Education Group and lead music workshops, such as Samba Drumming, Indian Music and General Musicianship in primary schools around York.

I have also completed three York Students in Schools placements (5 days each) in schools in York, observing teaching and gaining experience. In these placements, I often worked one-to-one with children, working to improve their abilities in maths and English. As well as these placements, I spent two weeks at a first school, continuing to expand my knowledge of primary teaching and my experience of working with children.

This most recent summer, I spent three weeks in August working at a Activity Day camp called Barracudas in Cambridge for children aged 4-16 and ran many activities such as trampolining, outdoor sports (including Quidditch!) and art activities. Although the focus of these sessions weren't as educational as those in school, I was still required to ensure that the children were making progress as the organisation could have been subjected to an Ofsted inspection, meaning that I planned my sessions to provide for the best experience for the children.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is about getting to know the child so that I understand the best way to help them learn. I know that all children have different approaches to understanding and I think that it is important to provide tutoring that is individual to their needs. I like to engage the child I am teaching, making learning fun and develop the skills that they need to continue to learn.

Personal Description:
Hi!

My journey into the Martial Arts began aged 19. I was looking for self discipline and defence skills which would help boost my confidence and help me gain insight into my life purpose. I had researched various styles of combative arts and Ju Jitsu appealed to me. I had some experience of judo and karate, but Ju Jitsu I felt, would be better suited to street self defence.

I have trained with some exceptional people in my 12 years of martial arts. Seeking teachers and students alike who were looking for substance and integrity, not just the ability to destroy the body. I feel privileged to have gained a vast and varied skill set which has been infused with training with teachers and students of other disciplines including Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Thai Boxing, Greco Wrestling, Kali to name a few.

I gained my Instructor level 1st Dan in Ju Jitsu in 1999. I have taught self defence to people from all walks of life from 16 years to 70 years!

I am also a qualified Master Tui Na practitioner, which is a medical massage that is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (it has nothing to do with the dark side of the unregulated Chinese Medicine market that deals in animal parts).
I studied Tui Na with Bodyharmonics who are the Mercati family based in Cheltenham, gaining Credit and Distinction diplomas in Foundation/Master Tui Na Practitioner in 2003/04.

I also have many years experience of meditation techniques and have also gained Reiki Master/Teacher level in Hands and Feet lineage. I am qualified and insured to teach Reiki to Master level.

I have always had a inquisitive and respectful approach to acquiring new skill sets and firmly believe that self discovery and teaching others with respect and compassion is earned and returned not by how many pieces of paper may be on one's wall, but by how we treat ourselves and others.

Teaching Experience:

Ju Jitsu - Self Defence - 1989 to 2003 under supervision/instruction of Master Jeff Sawyer 6th Dan Ju Jitsu

Reiki Workshops & Level I, II and Master - 2008 to present

Introduction to Tui Na Massage, including Baby/Infant Massage

(** Please note that travel costs are charged at 40p per mile **)

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, approachable and have a calm disposition.

I have many years experience of teaching private students in all my disciplines.

In 2012/13 I gained a City & Guilds PTTL's qualification to complement my teaching at Exeter College. I am qualified to teach 16 years onwards privately, in the workplace and in adult education centres.

Personal Description:
With a first class honours degree in Natural Sciences, I am a committed and enthusiastic tutor in all of the sciences and in geography. Before I began tutoring 6 years ago, I worked in systems and business process management with a global technology company.

I am a flexible, yet structured individual who believes that teaching and learning need to focus on a thorough understanding of the concepts, the hows and the whys of science, so that students can apply their knowledge, both in life and in exams, to achieve their full potential. In these times of significant changes to GCSE and A level exams, the ability to apply knowledge to explain or to solve problems (not just the knowledge itself) has become increasingly important.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience ranges from teaching English as a foreign language abroad, through training users in new business systems and more recently, over the last six years as a tutor in science subjects and geography at GCSE and A level across all exam boards.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring programme for each student is individually tailored to their learning style as well as to their objectives and the exam board for their exams. My experience has spanned a wide range of abilities and learning styles and I use a variety of media to best suit the individual student. I promote an interactive style of working to build confidence and like to include practice in exam questions and development of exam technique as well as straight teaching. I want my students to be as enthusiastic about science and geography as I am!

Personal Description:
Do you want the best for yourself or your child? Are you confused by today's education system? Has something gone wrong in your child's education? If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", then you have come to the right place!

Today's world offers countless wonders and opportunities. The role of education is to help each of us to explore and make the best of these. As a graduate of the University of Oxford, as well as a qualified teacher, I am uniquely well-placed to help students make the most of a precious time in their life. I know how to strike the delicate balance between the knowledge that inspires us and those all important exam results, on which so much rests. Offering a bespoke service, I tailor my tuition to my student's needs, guiding them through their own progress in the subject and the examination system.

My excellent academic background allows me to develop candidates in the skills and knowledge required for success in education, especially in written communication. As a linguist, I excel in English, French, Spanish and Italian, which I am pleased to offer to A-level. I can also instruct in academic English to degree level. My own debating, conversation and writing were honed in some of the finest institutions, not least the University of Durham, the Royal English College, Valladolid, and, most recently, the University of Oxford. In particular, I sub-specialise in helping boys (often in Years 10 and 11) to develop their formal written and spoken English, so that their intelligence, which often shines through in Maths and the Sciences, can also be reflected in the arts and humanities.

My students also find my approach focused, but also light-hearted and enjoyable. I pride myself on ensuring lessons are efficient, informative and focused not simply on the hour, but also on the "take-away", so that students will develop and progress.

Teaching Experience:

I have ten years' experience of teaching and tutoring at every level, from primary school through to undergraduate (I have led medieval philosophy seminars at St. Mary's College, Oscott). I have also worked with special needs children and I have often worked with children who have English as an additional language.

I possess Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring begins with the student's general academic background and his/her own academic goals. My planning and lessons subsequently focus on the particular elements (e.g. vocabulary, grammar, exam technique, etc.) required to attain the final goal. Feedback, both positive and constructive, is given throughout (to parents, where applicable). Courses in formal English focus on the reading, grammar, style and writing necessary for good prose and speech. This takes its lead from the format for Oxford tutorials, where students must research, compose and defend their views with an established academic. This is punctuated by more light-hearted moments and good humour. Tutees are also supplied with "homework" where required.

Personal Description:
I am a curious, adventurous and open-minded young woman ! I left France 7 years ago to travel and learn from other cultures ! I have learnt other languages as Spanish and English, and I'm still learning, so I know how patient I have to be with my students.

Teaching Experience:

I tought in Spain for 4 years, in the Instituto Cultural Francés and in a private scool (2010-2014), then I worked in the French Alliance of Buenos Aires in 2015 and 2016. I had a lot of personal students too and I have been an e-teacher on the educative platform of the French Institute of Madrid !

Tutoring Approach:

I have a master degree in languages didactic, so I know how to prepare an interesting, dynamic and funny class. I consider the practicing more important than the theorical, and I like to use games, even with adults. But I'm flexible and I can adapt the approach depending on the students' wishes.
