Personal Description:
After completing a BA honours degree at Leeds University, I decided to pursue a career in acting. I trained at LAMDA, and since 2007 have worked as a professional actor in a wide variety of theatre roles. I have worked with a large number of directors and learnt a range of skills and techniques that I am now able to share with my tutees.

I received a first class degree in English & Philosophy from Leeds University. Combined with my continuing interest in language and literature through my chosen career as an actor, this also makes me an excellent tutor for GCSE or A-Level English studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully helped several people get into accredited drama schools and worked on audition speeches with a wide variety of people of different ages and ability. I have also run drama and music workshops for a variety of age groups, mainly focusing on Shakespeare, and particularly in conjunction with Propeller Theatre Company.

Tutoring Approach:

If you need, I can help you to choose suitable audition speeches and give you advice on what to expect from the audition process. Then we will begin to work on your speeches, making them interesting and unique to you. We will make sure that if you are applying to drama school you show versatility, or if it is a one-off audition we work to your strengths.

Acting is incredibly subjective and every performer is different. I will let you know what you do well naturally, and then find areas in which you can improve, going at whatever pace you are comfortable with.

I am happy to do a one-off session of an hour or two on a speech, or work with you periodically through an audition season for drama school. The audition process can be nerve-wracking and I like to come to your home where you are comfortable so that we can get the best out of you.

For English tuition, I can help with essay structure, analysing and critiquing classical as well as modern texts, or help you to understand literary concepts or aspects of English language that might be difficult for you at the moment. Basically, whatever you feel you need help with - I'm very flexible!

Please drop me an email or give me a call and we can talk about whether my tutoring style is suitable to your needs.

Personal Description:
Positive, encouraging, warm and friendly. I graduated from the University of St Andrews in 2011 with an MA(Hons) in English Literature, and am currently undertaking a PGDE in Secondary English Teaching at the University of Strathclyde. I can assure you that whether you are studying William Shakespeare or Irvine Welsh, I can help. From experience, I also know that how much you enjoy the literature in question can have a big impact on how well you write essays or reports on it. I have a passion for literature and know there is always something good to be taken from any book, so hopefully through my tutoring, you'll catch the bug too. From critical readings, to deciphering poetry, to writing your own creative pieces, I've done them all from school through to University, and have no doubt I can guide you to a new-found confidence in your English Literature studies. Having studied Mediaeval, Scottish and Modern History at Junior Honours Level, I can also assist with school level British and European History studies. I am a qualified EFL Teacher, so if you're looking for help developing your English skills, look no further.

Teaching Experience:

EFL Teacher, Adults and Teenagers. Teaching exam based classes, I taught pupils aged 14 and upwards the skills, language and confidence necessary to sit internationally recognised Cambridge ESOL examinations. My teaching role varied from providing one-to-one tutoring for adults wishing to improve their English, to planning and delivering structured, informative lessons for classes of teenagers as part of their curriculum. I am delighted to be able to report that my students' earned not only pass marks in their exams, but were thrilled to attain high grades.

Kindergarten EFL Teacher. In this role I taught classes of thirty students the basics of the English language, using lesson plans and worksheets I developed myself. With a creative and enjoyable approach to teaching, I noticed considerable improvements in the English skills of my students, and am pleased to say my pupils consistently enjoyed my lessons and my warm, constructive teaching style.

Volunteer EFL Tutor. A one-on-one role teaching beginner's English, I tailored my lessons specifically to my pupil's needs at all times, discovering their areas of strength and which methods suited them best, and also working on weaker areas, finding ways to improve these through diverting activities and positive re-enforcement.

Volunteer Leader in ASN Performance Classes. In this role I helped teach children and adults with additional support needs singing, dancing and acting. I assisted either individuals or small groups in developing ideas for dramatic scenes, learning how best to work with each person, adapting scenes to both their preferences and what would help develop their confidence and independence.

I can also expertly proof-read your work, having previously proof-read dissertations, websites and CVs with skill, helping you produce a polished essay.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in structuring encouraging, independent learning environments, helping to draw out your own ideas and discussing them together to achieve an interesting and concise argument for you to work on. I apply constructive criticism with tact and guidance, asking appropriate questions about your theories to allow you to think them through with consideration and depth. I will not tell you what you should write: I will facilitate you, guide you, act as a sounding board for your ideas, and explain any gnarly linguistic or theoretical queries you may have. Be assured that I will come prepared to each lesson, whether online or in person, ready with resources I think would assist you, and with a sound knowledge of the text in question. Above all, I will be dedicated to helping you improve your understanding of the topic; the quality of your written work; and, hopefully, your enjoyment of reading and studying texts.

Personal Description:
My name is Nicholas and I specialise in the English language. Be it for exams, creative writing or even a first contact with English I can provide you with a well-structured plan in order to achieve your aims.

Teaching Experience:

I work as an EFL Tutor at the prestigious ECX Training Company. As a private tutor I have taught to a wide range of students for the past 5 years. I specialise in the English language as I am a CELTA qualified teacher, a student of MA Degree in Applied Linguistics and an amateur writer.

No matter what subjects we study or what activities we engage in on a daily basis English is the common `denominator` of everything. Our familiarity with this prime skill determines every successful outcome we strive towards in life from high grades and good jobs to exerting influence over others.

Apart from my English-related credentials, I hold a vast number of other qualifications across several areas including, but not limited to, business, arts & humanities and IT as well as several vocational qualifications ranging from car maintenance to operation of industrial vehicles such as P.O.E.T. and Forklift Counterbalance.

This passion of mine for education has enhanced my ability to teach English in virtually every field imaginable as opposed to the majority of English tutors who teach English only for the purposes of passing an academic exam.

Be it therefore for GCSEs or A-levels, IELTS, business, creative writing or even personal development I can provide you with a well-structured route of learning that is tailored to your needs and aspirations.

Finally, I also offer the option of a full refund should the student fail to meet their targets. Terms and conditions on this offer can be discussed in person.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring involves a flexible way of teaching that is tailored to every student, respecting everyone's differences in terms of working, thinking and studying.

Personal Description:
I hold a doctorate (PhD) in Philosophical Theology from The University of London (King's Collge, 2013). I also hold a Master of Arts (with Distinction) in Systematic Theology from King's, and a BA Hons in Theology. I specialise in Kantian and Post-Kantian thought, Existentialism (Kierkegaard and Heidegger) and Apophatic Theology. Nevertheless, I have experience of teaching Metaphysics, Epistemology, Aesthetics and Ethics in the Western Philosophical tradition more generally, from the Pre-Socratics and Plato through to modern times. I can also offer tuition in Christian Systematic Theology, both historical and contemporary.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Graduate Teaching Assistant at King's College London, lecturing, marking essays and giving tutorials to sixty-plus undergraduate students in Theology and Religious Studies. I teach A level philosophy and philosophy of religion at a London sixth form college, as well as freelancing as a tutor in philosophy and theology. I offer skype tuition, and have undergraduate and PhD level tutees in the US as well as the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is straightforward: the logic of the subject matter dictates the logic of the tuition. I guide students through difficult conceptual material through painstaking and thought-provoking analysis of the texts under discussion - unpacking arguments in order to reassemble them so that students can see their force for themselves. To this end, I encourage students at any level to think for themselves - to see the philosophical/theological value of various positions by themselves engaging in philosophical/theological discussion with me, rather than merely learning by rote: memory should only be an aid to greater personal understanding. Nevertheless, at every step I offer instruction, correction, encouragement and support.
