Personal Description:
I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. My hobbies are reading and writing (for leisure), travelling and sightseeing, aerobics and swimming. I could however easily call teaching one of my hobbies because I always find myself teaching people wherever I go!

Teaching Experience:

I was a primary school teacher for 16 years but I also did private tutoring as a sideline. I taught English to the age group 9-10years and outside working hours I taught adult literacy classes. I think I did well because I always found myself with so many private students to teach that sometimes it was hard to cope . All the same I enjoyed every minute of it. I have also recently qualified as an EFL teacher and am hoping to start soon.

Tutoring Approach:

When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. I am saying this with a view to teaching adults because that is what I hope to do. I also believe in teaching in a very relaxed environment that is conducive to learning so I always try and get rid of all distractions before we start. I have been known to be a good teacher and I hope I will continue with my good style and reputation.

Personal Description:
Dear Students,

My name is Miss Menakha Nathan and I am 21 of age. I have graduated with a 2.1 in BSc Biomedical Science from Imperial University. I studied at Tiffin Girls' Grammar School and obtained 6A*, 4A (GCSEs) and 3A (A levels). I believe it is more useful to find tutors who have been through what the students are going through, ie. I have been through the exams and stress you students are going through, so I feel I understand how to get through to you and help you achieve an A grade or higher in Maths, Biology or Chemistry, both in GCSEs and A levels. I ultimately would love to see my students achieve an A* in their tutored subject. I have all the pass exam papers from specific exam boards, such as OCR, AQA, Edexcel etc, and through experience, I know the way to obtain the highest grade is to do as many pass exam papers as possible. I have been taught by great teachers at Tiffins and I hope to shed this knowledge and understanding and their teaching ways onto my students.

In addition, for those wanting tutoring with the life science-Biomedical Science BSc University Level, I am also fully capable of doing that, as again I have been to a top three University in London.

I have a huge amount of patience, but most importantly I encourage all those around me to pursue their own dreams.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many students. I have tutored GCSE and A Level students in Maths, Biology and Chemistry at Tiffin Girls' School. During my time at Imperial University, I have tutored younger year Biomedical students. Currently and during my time at Imperial University, I have tutored many students in GCSE, AS Level and A Level Maths, Biology and Chemistry, with all of them obtaining a grade A or A* in those subjects in their final exams. With all this experience and having received an outstanding education from a Grammar school and top three University, I can assure you I will do everything possible to help my students obtain that A or A*. Finally I spent the summer of 2008 teaching at a special needs camp in America (Camp Atlantic), which involved the use of skills such as patience, encouragement, respect for my students and a good balance between flexibility and strictness.

Furthermore, I also tutor for the 11+ entrance exams. Having gone to a Grammar school (Tiffin Girls' School) myself I have all the past 11+ exam papers direct from many grammar and private schools (Instead of just WHSmith papers). Once again the key to passing these exams is through these exam papers. Having gone through these exams myself I can assure the child will get a place into their choice of grammar or private school.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is simple. The key is to teach students the background information and understanding in the subject, then spend the time practising past exam papers from the exam board your school will be using. That is the key that worked for me and helped me obtain the grades I did in school and university. Every time a student is stuck on a particular question on an exam paper, I intend to go back to that topic and revise it fully, then resume to past exam papers. What students often find, as I did during my time, is that all exam questions from a particular topic, eg. Maths-Differentiation, follow the same principle, therefore the understanding of that topic together with past exam papers will ensure your grade A or A*. This is what Tiffins and Imperial taught me and I now wish to teach the same principle to my students.

Personal Description:
I am currently a full time Secondary Science (Chemistry) PGCE student at the University of Cambridge. I have some previous teaching experience in the private sector. In January 2009 I was appointed to a part-time teaching position (Chemistry) at Eastbourne College for two terms, to cover a maternity leave.
Currently I am on my second school placement at The Leventhorpe School (Sawbridgeworth) where I am teaching GCSE and A level Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

A Level Chemistry
GCSE Chemistry
GCSE Physics

Tutoring Approach:

I spend part of the first lesson trying to identify what are the main weaknesses of my tutee. According to that I elaborate together with my tutee a tailored strategy that suits individual needs.
I offer constant help and support through the internet in between meetings and provide additional material for filling in knowledge gaps if required.
I prefer to stimulate the reasoning of my tutees on a topic or on a past paper rather than just giving them an explanation or an answer straight away.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught children aged 4-16 maths for many years and have thus gained much experience.

Personal Description:
I am an undergraduate at Oxford University reading Classics and entering my final year in October 2009. I still however maintain a keen academic interest in the subjects I pursued up to A level. I am considering a career in teaching after I leave university and am eager to gain some experience. I am a friendly and enthusiastic individual, and able to get on equally well with those both older and younger than I am. The Greek I can offer to teach is Ancient Greek.

Teaching Experience:

More formally, I assist annually with a reading week in Ancient Greek organised by an Oxford tutor, helping first year undergraduates to improve their language skills in a short space of time. Less formally, I have frequently supervised children of all ages and abilities from my school years upwards and often been required to help with their learning and schoolwork.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to make my teaching as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. Though I realise that extra tuition is seldom sought simply for fun, and I aim to ensure that teaching sessions are as productive and supportive for the student as possible. I am able to teach Latin and Ancient Greek to undergraduate level and English and History to A level; though I am of course able, and willing, to teach for CE and GCSE. I have amassed a wide range of textbooks over the years, and would be able to compliment whatever my pupil is using in the mainstream and provide loans and advice for books for adult pupils.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please do get in touch if you require any further information/references.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified Primary School teacher, completing my teaching qualification in 2004. I have a 2:1 BSc degree from Liverpool University. I then completed a PGCE in Primary Education at Leicester University, specialising in Science.

Teaching Experience:

I currently work in a Catholic Primary School, where I have worked since qualifying. I have taught a mixed age group class of year 5/6 for 3 years, a year 5 class for 2 years and now work in year 3/4. I also have experience of 1-1 tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to one-to-one tuition is to personalise the curriculum so that each pupil's individual needs are met in a way that is not always possible in a classroom setting. The pace of each lesson is geared towards each individual child, with activities planned to take account of the child's interests, where possible. I believe it is vital to bolster a child's confidence so that they feel able to 'have a go' and not be afraid to take risks. Hopefully, they will then be able to carry this confidence with them when they are back in class.

Personal Description:
Hi, I am a 23 year old recent university graduate with a BA(Hons) Marketing degree. I am competent in teaching business studies up to A level standard and am familiar in many fields of the subject. As well as teaching, I am keen on sport and music.

Teaching Experience:

I worked in schools for the past two years both in a business environment( business academy) and English ( secondary school) . In both situations, through one to one tuition and group work, the majority of students improved dramatically. For example in English GCSE classes I had a vast improvement with many students going from F/G grades to B/C grades, and that was only in a matter of a few months.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very patient and understanding to the needs of others and am confident in my ability to tutor effectively. In my experience with pupils I found my age to be a huge advantage as I can relate to students easily. I am very enthusiatic and believe in a mixture of visual and audio aids as well as more traditional methods.

Personal Description:
I am French, and I have lived in Scotland since September 2002. I am currently studying osteopathy in Oxford, but I have had many teaching jobs along the way. I love languages, and do very much enjoy passing on the knowledge I have on my mother tongue :)

Teaching Experience:

I have done almost any possible way of teaching French, from private tuition to adults, young adults to teaching bilingual 5 year old children. This year I had a class of 8 to 10 year old at La Petite Ecole in Edinburgh, which is an after school club created by l'institut francais. This summer I am working for the Language Room in Linlithgow (near Edinburgh), to teach children from age 3 to 11. About two years ago, I had my own teaching class for adult beginners. Finally, I have done the odds private tuition along the way, for mainly adults and secondary school students.

Tutoring Approach:

Considering my background in teaching, I will always adapt and tailor the lesson to what the student requires. I am not following any specific program. Depending on the needs, the student(s) and I set up the desired goals at the beginning, then we work towards them, adapting/reassessing along the way the lessons depending on how the student(s) respond(s) to such and such methods. I have a fair amount a material now that I have accumulated over the years, and I just have to use some old favorites or create some new, more updated exercise as it goes. "Always a pleasure, never a chore" :)
