Personal Description:
I'm in my early fifties, am married with four children, the youngest of whom is still at home. I have 30+ years experience of teaching all ages from pre-school (I used to child mind) to A level and FE students. I have taught children aged 4-14yrs in an Independent Christian School and I have English GCSE to adults. I help people who have particular difficulties and those who just lack confidence. I help people to see their very real strengths and to build on them, showing them techniques for learning and improving their writing style, comprehension skills and spoken English in a way that suits them as individuals. I always make sure that whether or not you want to pass exams, the English you use is fit for whatever need you have - so if you just need help in speaking to Doctors and nurses in hospital, I can help with that or if you want to start at Uni I can meet your study needs too at whatever level. I am extremely passionate about education and have a purposeful approach which takes account of students' individual learning styles. I am happy to travel to you at a cost of 40p per mile but if you prefer to come to me, that's fine too.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in homes, Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges and Community Centres. I have taught workshops on how to apply for a job as well as teaching English as a foreign language and even adults with learning disabilities. You can see from this that I am a teacher who loves teaching - education is my passion! I also love reading and researching so I can help people with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. I have been trained in this area and I have always taken opportunities to improve my teaching skills. My students are very proud of their achievements in exams etc but most of all they thank me for building their confidence and allowing them to work at a pace which suits them so that they really enjoy what they are learning. I have taught the Cambridge ESOL qualifications Using the CLT technique from the CELTA qualification which I gained last year) as well as GCSE English language and Literature. I have experience of teaching on the one to one tuition scheme in Primary schools as well as class teaching. My most recent experience is as Head of English in a school for children with moderate learning difficulties, especially autism aged 11yrs to adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to give personal attention to my tutees and to tailor the lessons to their needs but am happy to teach up to 3 people together to reduce costs if that helps. We work on Language skills such as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in ESOL lessons with plenty of practice for tests if needed and when studying literature at a higher level, I encourage my tutees to relate what they are reading to current issues and events in the world so that it is relevant and interesting for them. We have lots of fun but at the same time we work intensively, reading aloud to proof read and learning strategies for spelling, punctuation and organising essays etc. It is a great way to prepare for further academic study and I can help to prepare students for interviews or to give that all important presentation which could lead to promotion. We offer Home Stay at our home which is a riverside Victorian Railway station in the heart of particularly attractive countryside with visits to sites of Historical interest, practice with English speaking in our family from 350.00 /week negotiable according to visits selected.

Personal Description:
Post doctoral researcher at University of Sheffield, working to improve mathematical computer models which predict onset of heart disease.

I recently completed a PhD in Bioengineering at Imperial College London, carrying out mathematical research on heart disease. My first degree was in Maths at the same university, and I took a Masters in Biomedical Research in between.

I attended both a state school and a top boarding school and am comfortable to cover topics on and off the standard syllabus.

I am a very fun, friendly person with a wide range of activities and hobbies from inline skating to singing and playing the violin.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored A-level maths privately for a few years, and also spent several weeks as a teaching assistant in a secondary school during my undergraduate degree as part of the Student Associates Scheme. Many of my contemporaries from university are science and mathematics teachers across England and overseas, and I periodically discuss teaching methods and curriculum changes with them.

During my PhD, I led undergraduate tutorials and problems classes in the Mathematics and several Engineering departments, teaching undergraduates from 1st year to 4th year. The courses include Mathematical Methods, Matlab, Fluid Mechanics, PDEs, Modelling in Biology, Heat and Mass Transfer. I also carried out 1-1 tuition for undergraduates at departmental request. I have supervised a number of undergraduate and masters research projects and summer students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very approachable person and I prefer interactive sessions, although I can tailor the tuition style to the individual.

A first meeting would involve an informal chat for the student and I to get more familiar with his/her needs and style of working, and everything follows from there.

Personal Description:
My name is James and I am an 18 year old student at the University of Chester. I currently study French at university. I am fluent in both English and French as I lived in Geneva, Switzerland for the past seven years. I went to an international school where I completed the International Baccalaureate (IB). I have four younger siblings, two sisters and two brothers, aged between 3 and 10 so I am used to being around children.

Teaching Experience:

As a part of the IB we needed to complete something called Creativity Action and Service (CAS hours), for my service I tutored students in the lower years in French. This ranged from my brothers friends in year 2 right the way through to year 10. I enjoyed my experience of tutoring and would like to further it by tutoring here in Chester whilst at university.

Tutoring Approach:

As each child's approach to learning varies, I prefer to have an introduction lesson where I can talk to the parents and the child to gain a proper understanding of the child's needs, strengths and weaknesses. This is extremely important for the 11-14 year olds and the GCSE students as it will help taylor a lesson that they can benefit from the most. This is also important for the primary school students as the lessons must be fun and interactive to keep them interested, if I can find out what they want to learn then I can plan a lesson that they will enjoy.

I have an excellent understanding of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry which are at the core of my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and I still use today. I am a calm individual who understands that everyone is unique with different speed of comprehension and always try to find out the sparks in individuals. I enjoy teaching Mathematics to all levels, especially the young minds because I believe practicing, solving and understanding mathematics sharpens the brain in understanding and quickly solving other problems in life as they grow. I have over 5 years of experience; covering teaching in private homes of families, friends, acquaintances, and tutorial lessons/coaching centres. I have undertaken teaching secondary school students and a few 1st year undergraduate students. Personal Description:
Hello. I'm Daniel.
I've been passionate about languages ever since I was a little boy and am still pursuing the quest for knowledge and polyglotism!
My fsvourite and most fluent language is Russian. A language which I feel the most closest to as I have family who are from there. With this passion I would like to pass it to others...to you maybe?

Teaching Experience:

I've had plenty lf teaching experience in and out of the classroom. Mainly I have been involved in one-to-one private tuition as well as mentoring within College.

Tutoring Approach:

I've always had a straight forward approach to teaching languages. It's always important to take your time when studying a language as rushing can make you feel like you know nothing if/when you hit a brick wall. Therefore I like to develop the idea of challenge and reward, to develop the basics of a language, alphabet, pronunciation and grammar but on the other hand develop general knowledge of common words and phrases in order to allow for a level of confidence to grow. No matter how big or small.

- Teacher of Drama and English, September 1998 - August 1999

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is characterised by the following commitments I make to every learner I have the privilege of working with:

- I will place all learners firmly at the centre of the learning experience
- I will lead all learners towards understanding how they learn best and be mindful that academic success is underpinned by aspiration, healthy levels of self-belief, stress management, courage, organisational ability, resilience, creativity and motivation. And that's to name but a few!
- I will hold the highest expectations of all learners and craft memorable learning activities that will encourage a love of learning
- I understand that behind every set of examination results, irrespective of the scores, must stand a person who is equipped, personally, socially and culturally, to prosper in the 21st Century. For this reason, academic tutoring/coaching will always focus on personal as well as academic development.

The Study Skills coaching I offer can help resolve a wide range of common issues that can be barriers to effective learning. If you answer 'yes' to one or more of the following questions, study skills coaching could well be an investment that brings real value to your child and their future:

- Is your child's effort beginning to slip?
- Do behavioural issues exist in the school setting?
- Is your child frequently getting detentions for forgetting homework or being late?
- Do school reports show a dip in academic attainment?
- Does your child struggle to contribute to classroom activities, for example, answering questions or speaking publicly?
- Does your child give up too easily?
- Would your child benefit from improved social skills?
- Does your child become anxious around examination periods?
- Does your child require increased focus and attention prior to key examinations, e.g. entrance examinations, Year 6 standardised attainment tests and GCSE exams?

Flexible, personalised programmes can commence at any point during the year.

The first session is essential for the success of the programme going forward. In this session, we evaluate current learning strengths and weaknesses in the individual student. In order to get a full picture of the student's learning priorities, we undertake the following activities to determine areas for improvement and the best conditions for success:

- reflections from the student on how they feel about their learning experience
- a learning survey - it's good fun and gives the child/student a really useful exercise in self-reflection
- analysis of recent written reports which contain teacher comments and grades recording attainment, effort, attitude to learning, punctuality, etc. School reports can vary in format so it may be that not all this detail is available
- we ask that a parent/teacher is involved for the duration of this first session to provide their own reflections on the learning profile of the child
- completion of a personalised learning contract whereby the child/student, parent/teacher and coach agree on the required conditions needed for the child/student to be successful during the programme.

Personal Description:
After completing a BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree at Sheffield Hallam University, I began a three year postgraduate research degree (PhD) with the Oncology Research Group at Nottingham Trent University. During this time, I was given the opportunity to lecture / demonstrate to undergraduate science students, which involved supervising practical laboratory sessions and assessment of written coursework. I found this experience immensely rewarding and as a result, decided to pursue a career in teaching.

I qualified as a teacher in June 2002 and I began teaching science at a local secondary school in September 2002 and I became Head of Department in March 2007.

Teaching Experience:

I have 13 years teaching experience and 10 years experience managing a successful science department. I am also an examiner (GCSE Science) for the AQA and OCR boards and I have been doing private home tuition since 2010. I believe that science education should be engaging, relevant to the student`s everyday lives and foster an appreciation of how science can benefit future generations.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I aim to build confidence in my students, as experience has taught me that this is often the barrier that is preventing them from progressing within the classroom. I also place a strong emphasis on exam technique, so that students can apply their knowledge successfully in an exam to achieve their potential.
