Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable teacher and have high expectations. I try to help and encourage my students to reach their potential and enjoy their time with me.

I am aware of any syllabus change and have attended courses run by the OCR, Edexcel and AQA examination boards to update myself.

From September 2017 I will be studying for a Masters in History through the Open University.

Teaching Experience:

I taught in a secondary school for over six years until 2006 and since this time have been tutoring full time. I have experience across the 10-18 age and ability range. I am experienced in working with lower ability children, including those who have a Statement for Educational Needs.

However, I now mainly concentrate teaching GCSE and A-level:
I teach both English Language and Literature up to GCSE. I also teach History at both GCSE and A-level. I am experienced and skilled in exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient and caring teacher and before I start with the lessons I discuss with the parent and the pupil their subject weaknesses. I also discuss what they are learning in school not only to give me the ability to help them understand the subject, but also to enable me to know what they want to achieve through my teaching. I give homework and then discuss with the pupil the different ways that they can make improvements so that they gain confidence with their studies. In certain cases I do not give homework as the schoolwork might be heavy.

After each lesson I always make time to talk to the parent to discuss what I have taught their child and tell them what homework has been set. This way the parent, pupil and myself can give immediate feedback.

I have excellent people skills and try to build a good relationship with my students so that they enjoy their lessons.

Then i will review the text books if any and if needed recommend any other relevant book the student should consult. Take a small interview from the student to check his/her abilities. On the basis of that i will judge from where we have o start.Do the student need to start from very basis or scratch or from some point in the mid etc.I will focus on repeating the daya to day work the student has done in the class so that if he/she might need any clerification it should be fix first and for that if I have to do some background work I am wiling to do that. Personal Description:
I am an Economics graduate from Liverpool University and taught economics and business studies in secondary schools for over 10 years. Prior to teaching I worked in advertising for 10 years. I now focus on tutoring economics and business studies students and I also own two online businesses. I live in Bristol, am married with 3 children and I am passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I taught Economics and Business Studies in state schools for 10 years and have also tutored students for many years. My students consistently over-perform - all students I tutored in 2015 achieved at least a grade B and improved at least one grade since I started working with them. Several improved by 3 or more grades. For example, one recent A2 Economics student went from a grade E in his January mock exam to an A* overall in June, whilst another A2 student went from a grade B to a grade A overall and achieved 100% on an AS resit paper. I am an experienced Economics examiner and am familiar with all the major exam boards. I can supply references on request (some are listed on my profile) and I have a current CRB.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always begin by discussing my tutee's individual requirements and areas of the syllabus they would like to focus on. Once these have been established, I usually start with a return to basics, teaching economic or business theory that may not have been fully understood by the student. Once they are comfortable with the concepts, I will look to build in higher order analytical and evaluation skills as well as providing real world examples. I will use a variety of teaching methods to stretch students, backed up with exam technique by practising past papers. I am happy to teach face to face for local students, however I often teach online via Skype, using a whiteboard facility, which my students can also access. This makes the sessions as interactive as meeting face to face and it also means I can tutor students who don't live in Bristol. I always encourage students to provide feedback so that they receive maximum benefit from their teaching.

Below are some testimonials from current and recent students:

''I really cannot overstate the amount Ian has helped me out with my AQA Economics A-level with AQA. After missing the most part of an entire term of Economics teaching at my school essentially all of my Economics knowledge came from Ian for my A2 exams. I had originally achieved a C-grade in AS Economics, but after Ian teaching me for only two school terms I was able to achieve two A's at 174/200 UMS in my A2 exams (the criteria for earning an A* at A-level being 180/200 UMS). This would have been unachievable without Ian's help. One particularly useful tool for learning with Ian was our Skype sessions (around 70% of our lesson time was done using this method). These were online lessons in which our communication was done via Skype, using the "Google Docs" tool as a way of sharing work and information between us. This was particularly useful to me as my schedule was always busy and being able to be tutored online made me able to make every lesson without feeling overworked or having to travel. Alongside this, these sessions meant I was able to do work and get real-time feedback on my exam answers at the same time. My answers could be questioned and improved with input from both myself and Ian. Overall taking in this information improved my exam technique considerably and played a large part in me obtaining such successful grades. Ian helped me hugely with my A-levels and I genuinely believe I would have performed at a level lower than a C without his tutoring. I would very much recommend him as a tutor to anyone looking for Economics help. He was able to assist with knowledge, theory and exam technique while using relevant, memorable and up-to-date examples that made the most out of our time and helped towards my exams.'' Mr C - Bristol

"Matt only got an E grade in his February A2 mock exam and the school predicted he would get a C grade at A2. With the significant assistance from Ian, Matt achieved an A* at A2. In his other two A levels, Matt achieved Bs (he also had tutors for these). There are several reasons why Ian made the difference: 1.Being taught on Skype. Matt was initially very apprehensive about being taught on Skype rather than in person. But Skype proved really beneficial. Firstly it enabled Matt to fit in tuition at times that would just not have been possible if travel had been involved. Secondly it enabled Matt to have additional lessons when he had spare time. 2. Focussing on how to structure essay answers. The school just didn't put anywhere near enough emphasis on this crucial area. 3. Essay marking. A key aspect of A2 is exam practice. We paid Ian for essay marking which meant that Matt was effectively maximising his time with Ian. 4. Not accepting mediocrity. The school said that Matt should not retake his AS exams as he had a good B grade. Ian said he should retake as he could do better. 5. Providing positive encouragement. Matt has always lacked belief in himself and Ian gave Matt the confidence that he could achieve a good result.
We would strongly recommend Ian as an Economics tutor" Mr P - South Gloucestershire

"Ian is an incredible tutor, who can prepare you not only for the Economics lessons, but also for the A levels exam. Before came to him, I struggled to understand Economics and was predicted a C. However, Ian helped me to understand all the economic concepts and theories, using up to date examples and YouTube videos and I achieved a grade A at AS level. Half of the lessons I had were via Skype since I was abroad that time. That's why I would especially recommend Ian for those students, who don't have the opportunity to come to his home. On the whole Ian is a brilliant Economics teacher, who will definitely help you to succeed in the subject" Miss B - Bristol and Russia

"Ian is a friendly and helpful tutor. He is punctual for his lessons and flexible with his timings. My son retook his EC2 paper in January 2013 and secured 100% after getting tutored from Ian. This is an improvement from a grade B prior to Ian's tutoring. Ian helped my son tremendously in his exam technique and boosted my son's confidence in the subject and the ways to approach his exams. My son was able to achieve 100% only because of Ian's teaching and from his dedicated effort. I would easily recommend Ian to anyone needing a tutor." Mrs D - Swansea

"Ian started tutoring me in late September and since then my Economics results have improved and I achieved an A grade in my final A2 exams. I have found Ian a very helpful tutor who is more than willing to go through my questions. We go through essays and past paper questions which aid my understanding and confidence in Economics topics. Ian taught me online and I found that Skype was highly convenient in allowing me to not have to travel to Ian" Mr B - Chepstow

"I contacted Ian since I felt that I needed help in understanding the context and concepts involved. Ian style of working was particularly effective. He helped me to improve my understanding of the subject matter by logical explanation and by building from basic principles to a more sophisticated awareness of the subject. Ian was always very patient and sympathetic to my learning needs. He was well prepared for our sessions, and always set me work to do independently as well. As a result of Ian's support I feel that my capability in Economics increased significantly. When I started working with Ian I was achieving at around a grade C. As a result of Ian's support I achieved an overall grade B at AS, the actual grades for the 2 papers were an A and a B. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Ian and would happily recommend Ian as a tutor for Economics. I will be continuing to have him as a tutor through my A2 course" Miss B - Redland, Bristol

"My son initially struggled with the subject gaining an E grade in his mock exams but with Ian's help he managed a grade B in his AS level and attained an A grade in both A2 papers. This was a huge improvement over the two years and I doubt it would have been possible without Ian's help, both with weekly tutoring and the all important pre exam revision days. Ian's approach was personalised and intensive and my son's needs we're concentrated upon fully. Ian was always punctual and organised and struck up a good relationship with the whole family. I would happily recommend him." Mrs W - Redland, Bristol

Personal Description:
I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Tutoring Approach:

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. Allied to developing the imaginative and creative abilities is the need to create opportunities to build on existing technical skills and introduce new ones. The combination should be fun.

Personal Description:
I am a well published Stem Cell Scientist at Imperial College London, currently working on regenerative medicine-based solutions for Osteoarthritis. I have over 10 years of experience in the field of biomedical research, biology and chemistry teaching and scientific writing. I have been fascinated with the way human mind works and learn - having tried several teaching techniques with my students here at Imperial College, I am confident that students under my guidance and their hard work usually stay within top 5% of the class.

Teaching Experience:

I have had a number of MSc and MRes students in the past and have had primary, secondary, GCSE and A-level, and college teaching experience in the past. Currently I am tutoring a number of GCSEs, A-levels, undergraduates and masters students and lab-based research projects / theses.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student has his / her positives and negatives - I first analyse them and then slowly work on their negative points (with a good push to their confidence levels). Additionally, I believe for understanding any science subject (biology, chemistry or physics), learning fundamentals is extremely important for students to further understand complexity of life (more important if they choose to do biology / biomedical science / medicine / life science). So, my approach has always been understanding things more analytically.

Personal Description:
I have a First Class Hons. in Drama from the University of East Anglia. I have also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for actor training. I was a drama tutor for nearly 3 years at Theatrix Performing Arts School in St Albans, Hertfordshire. I have tutored students for A-Level studies, drama school entry, Trinity College examinations and personal development. Alongside my teaching I am a working professional actor and director. I am co-artistic director of Speechless Theatre Company.

Teaching Experience:

At Theatrix Performing Arts School I directed students through Trinity College London acting examinations as well as public performances in shows. In autumn 2013 my students achieved a 100% pass rate with Merits or Distinctions in their performance examinations.

I have worked with private students on both their practical and theoretical drama school exams at GCSE and A-Level standard.

Furthermore, I worked as a volunteer English teacher on the island of Roatan in Honduras, Central America for one year. I taught Spanish and Garifuna speaking children aged 12 to 24 in basic spoken and written English.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage a focus on movement and text analysis when working with students on the practical and performance aspects of theatre. I use exercises, improvisations and games to engage them with the scenes they are working on.

I try to facilitate a students' personal creativity when working with them on theoretical theatre work; I encourage them to use their own ideas and opinions. It is my view that theatre is not objective, so allowing personal style is very important.

Personal Description:
I began having Japanese lessons at school when I was eleven years old and continued to study the language for a further seven years. I completed GCSE Japanese- A* and GCE A Level Japanese-B before coming to the University of Leeds to study BA Japanese and Philosophy.
I have been lucky enough to have visited Osaka as an exchange student during my A-Level studies and also to have co-hosted an exchange student. These experiences were key in making me want to pursue learning Japanese as well as teach others about the language and culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught beginner Japanese lessons in primary schools and at my previous school supported secondary students with their Japanese studies. During my time in Japan I was able to assist Japanese friends at school with their learning of English as well as teach my host family key English phrases.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning a new language should be interactive and enjoyable. I encourage students to get stuck in and be prepared to learn from mistakes in order to develop a thorough understanding and sound knowledge of Japanese. The benefit of studying Japanese creatively and through the use of games, flashcards and evaluative quizzes is a relaxed approach to study and in my experience, steady achievement.

Like any language, when learning Japanese, practice makes perfect so lessons are at a pace ideal for the student in order to maximize progress. A balanced approach to both writing, reading and speaking are essential so I am keen to deliver a variety of exercises in lessons.

Most importantly I want students to enjoy learning Japanese as much as I love to teach it.

Personal Description:
I am a native Russian with a university diploma of engineering, have copleted courses of Teaching Russian as a foreign language. Now I am living in Plymouth and would like to continue my teaching practice.

Teaching Experience:

In Moscow I taught expats and their family members Russian as a foreign Language. They were drawn from a wide variety of nationalities and linguistic level. My students worked for companies such as Alfa-Bank, VTB, JTI, Les Laboratoires Servier, Adidas Russia, Kellogg's, Eurocopter, ROCA and others. Although some students were private, for the most part, they were referred to me from the Language schools that I have had a long association with.

Tutoring Approach:

I do believe that there is no one universal method of teaching. I have always adapted my approach individually, matching the learning style of my students. As a basic I take the Communicative method which allows me to quickly recognise students' strengths and weaknesses.

Personal Description:
I am a very dedicated, patient and outgoing person. I am fluent in French, English and Hindi. I have good communication and organizational skills as I have been team leader for different projects both at university and at my place of work. What I have to offer is an approach to tutoring which will be fun, engaging and challenging on all individual levels, adjusted to their preferred progression pace. I am currently studying Psychology at Kingston University. I have an A-Level certificate bearing an A grade in French and I must say I have always loved the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I gave private tuitions in French and Mathematics up to GCSEs for more than 3 years now, with a group of 8 students. Throughout my experience, I have developed excellent teaching skills and I am now confident in guiding students to the rightful path and help them achieve excellent grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I can easily put myself in the skin of my students and try to turn complicated things into simple terms. I try to maintain a friendly relationship with my students and at the same time be very professional at work. The most important thing to remember is that I was and still am a student, which helps me understand what is expected from a teacher. I also keep track of the student's progress and use different methods such as exam papers which I find very useful to achieve the desired grades to motivate them. Also, I always try to make the student do the same exercises more than once as practice makes perfect. I want to develop a career in teaching hence any experience will be valuable for me.

Personal Description:
I am a 32 year old female. I have worked with children for a number of years now in the mainstream high school setting. I'm always studying myself, I have completed a basic counselling skills course and art-it's place in therapy course.

I'm currently working within a mainstream high school as a communication support worker, for students on the autism spectrum. I am enthusiastic and passionate about education. I want to support my students to achieve their full potential.

I am available during school holidays for tutoring during the day, or evenings and weekends.

Teaching Experience:

I started working with inclusion doing art projects with students who have behaviour difficulties; then went on to be a teaching assistant supporting all academic areas on the curriculum with children aged 10-17. I can differentiate work down to very low levels and am aware of the current curriculum. I have worked with students of many abilities and was a key worker for a child who's Downs Syndrome.
I still work in mainstream but I'm now a specialist in autism, working with children on the autistic spectrum daily. I am aware of the challenges my students face with accessing work on the curriculum as well as the social side of things.

I have also supported my school by covering art lessons and helping students with coursework and homework.

I offer tutoring in the following areas:
-Reading & Writing Skills: reading feedback and writing for coursework (essay, report, article for publication, research)

-Study skills: how to read critically and how to write, making presentations, etc.

-Art: Acrylic painting, Drawings and Rendering, Making Physical and 3D Models and crafts, Sketch book, Design Portfolio ( to help developing your portfolio for college or university interviews)

-Special needs: Differentiation for any subject up to GCSE/A'level and within the arts at university level working with students on homework, coursework and presentations who have learning difficulties.

Tutoring Approach:

I always wanted to be an art teacher, that's why I went to university, but over the years working in a school I realised what I could achieve by remaining at the support level. I can give more of my time to small groups and 1:1, a lot more than a teacher can as I don't have all the paperwork and other commitments to many students that they have.

My aim as a tutor is to make art accessible and give my students confidence. Over the years I've seen lots of students feel like their work isn't good enough; I can support them by teaching the basic skills and building on their existing knowledge.

I am a very patient & positive tutor who can explain concepts in a way which can be understood by my students.

Personal Description:
I am currently a second year student in London School of Economics and Political Science. I major in Mathematics and Statistics, with dedicated spirit to enlighten my tutees with my knowledge of mathematics. During my A-Levels ( CIE board) , I scored A* in both Mathematics and Further Mathematics and also A in Physics. At the same period I also attended Euclid's Mathematics Competition and scored within the top 15 percentile. Besides, I have also developed many ways of understanding mathematics through readings and attending optional lectures , and I can't wait to share my excitement to bring my tutee along the journey in search of more and more "Eureka!" moments.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for 4 years since I was in my high school. During my A-Levels , I also joined the Tutor-Tutee program which I was assigned to a few tutees and I was responsible for their progress during the entire year. My recent experience in London was about 4 months ago right before the A-Levels exam, I taught a British-born Arabian within 2 months and managed to bring his grade up substantially ( from E/D to B) and earned him a place in University of Exeter.

Tutoring Approach:

Different from most teaching styles portrayed in class, I use different ways of explaining from either easy or intermediate levels to relate to specific chapters in the text book. While text books being the main course material, rather than asking my tutee to blindly remember all the formulas, I will teach them to derive all of them and understand the meaning implied within.
I strongly do not encourage remembering the questions from past year papers, instead , I will teach the very basic- the essence of specific chapters to understand and to master and this will arm my tutee with the ability to answer all type of questions during the exam. Also available for students with intermediate level seeking for advanced or intensive type of tutoring.

Personal Description:
I'm 21 years old and a photography student. English was my favourite subject both at school and at A Level, and I achieved good grades at both stages respectively.
I love to read and firmly believe that the wider you have read when young, the more it will allow to grow as you age.

Teaching Experience:

Supporting young children (between the ages of 3 and 6) with basic literacy and numeracy skills; classroom assistant within a primary school for two summers; supporting 11-12 year olds with their reading as they settle into high school.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to sit and have a conversation with my students, encouraging you to discover the answers needed yourself rather than sit with an open book and just speak words at you.
