Personal Description:
Emme offers private flute and music theory tuition.

Emme began her musical studies at the age of nine, receiving music scholarships at both her Prep school and the prestigious Oxford High School for Girls up until she left. She made her Concerto debut at the age of seventeen, playing Mouquet's La Flute de Pan Concerto, and successfully gained both the DipABRSM and LRSM in performance before moving to Manchester in 2005 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. At the RNCM Emmeline studied with Richard Davis, Linda Verrier, Michael Cox, and Laura Jellicoe culminating in a final recital in 2009 that included works by Messiaen, Liebermann and George Crumb. Since graduating in 2009 she has continued to learn, play and teach the flute as well as the recorder and music theory.

As an orchestral flute player, Emme has performed in orchestras conducted by Hansjorg Schellenbeger, Sir Mark Elder, Gianndrea Noseda and Jacques Van Steen, just to name a few. She has performed across England as well as travelling to Italy to work under Noseda in his Stresa Festival and to Spain as part of the Word Orchestra. During 2008 and 2009, Emme successfully competed to become the only chosen flute player to take part in The BBC Philharmonics Professional Experience Scheme, and since then she regularly performs and records with the Orchestra in and around Manchester. She has also played with the Bampton Classical Opera, the London-Irish Symphony Orchestra, the Oxford Concerto Orchestra, and Stockport Symphony Orchestra and has featured as principal flautist on a number of recordings, notably for the soundtrack to the film Tortoise in Love, and on recordings for Polyphonic Records. She is currently performing in the touring hit musical Phantom of the Opera, as well as taking part in sessions for shows and TV in the UK.

Outside of orchestral playing Emme also performs chamber music and solo works. She is one of the founding members of Northern Quarter Ensemble, a flexible chamber group providing bespoke musicians for special events; most recently performing for royality at the Paris Opera Garnier. She often gives solo recitals and performs at weddings in Manchester, Oxford and Cheltenham. Her last concerto performance was just last year where she performed the Ibert Concerto with Oxford Studio Orchestra.

Outside of playing Emme enjoys teaching. During her time in Manchester she has taught privately, as well as for Lancashire, the Wirral and Bolton Music Services. She is also involved the BBC Philharmonic's outreach schemes, most recently being appointed the wind coach for the Family Orchestra projects in the North-West of England.

She has now moved to Oxfordshire and London and teaches at Preparatory Schools in both areas.

Teaching Experience:

Emme has over 10 years teaching experience, teaching both privately and for Lancashire and Bolton Music Services. She currently teaches at Rendcomb College, St Hughs, Ferndale Prep and Bruern Abbey. Over this time she has acquired a 100% pass rate for pupils taking exams.

If you would be interested in learning with Emme, then please get in contact to enquire about lessons!

Tutoring Approach:

She is happy to teach those who want to learn purely for enjoyment but is also experienced in preparing students for ABRSM Graded exams. She teaches all abilities; from complete beginner to advanced players.

Personal Description:
I have been teaching privately for over 14 years and I have been teaching on-line for over 3 years and I am passionate about teaching Modern Foreign Languages. I graduated from Reading University in 1980 having also studied at Grenoble University in France followed later by a TEFL course at Swansea University. After teaching French and German in a secondary school I moved into Exporting. Since 2000 I have been running my French and German Tuition and Translation company. I make regular visits to France and Germany and have many contacts in both of these countries. I regularly work also as a Translator of French and German into English. Italian is another language which I teach having studied this fantastic language at Reading University. English as a Foreign Language is another subject with which I have great experience and I often work for SILC which is a French company that sends French teenagers to the U.K. to improve their English. I have organised educational visits for French teenagers also in the U.K. on behalf of SILC.

TUITION ALSO VIA SKYPE.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught privately for over 14 years and previously worked as a French and German teacher in a secondary school and have taught French and German to adults at Leisure Centres for over six years. For the past 14 years I have taught French and German to all levels including University level with some excellent results at GCSE and A Level. I also teach English as a Foreign Language and regularly organise study visits for French teenagers in my area. I have also taught Italian online to Beginners and also supply Tuition via a Skype connection to students for all of my subject areas. Teaching via Skype is an extremely effective means of teaching a language providing both visual, oral and written back-up with the student interacting with the Tutor. I have worked for Apricot Online Learning which provides Tuition via Skype for students who are unable to attend school on a regular basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very sympathetic approach to Tutoring and always get the best from my students. I have many years of Teaching experience and always check at every stage that the student can use the concepts which he or she has been taught. Teaching is done in a relaxed manner which puts the student at ease and this helps them to achieve their full potential. As stated above all of my students have passed all of their examinations in either French or German while studying with me at GCSE and A Level. I am passionate about my vocation as a Tutor and always go the extra mile to achieve the very best results for all of my students. Tutoring requires commitment and a total dedication to the role of mentor and educator.
My job is not only to educate but also to inspire and lead by example through proven methods which maximise a student's potential.

Personal Description:
My name is Chris and I specialise in preparing students for both the 11+ entrance exams and A-level chemistry exams. Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

Chris has been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry since 1994 and as an ex-Head of Chemistry who has worked in both state schools and private schools, he has helped countless students achieve the high grades they often need for university entrance. Many of my ex-students have gone on to vet school, medical school and Ox-bridge.

Chris has also been teaching Key Stage 3 since 1994 and has a good understanding of the level of written work and mathmatical ability expected of the most able Year 7 students when they begin Secondary School. He has helped countless students to achieve their potential throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and earlier in his career he was employed as Head of Lower School Science at Kelly College Independent School in Tavistock, Devon.

Chris has a boy and a girl who have both been through the 11+ process and so is well aware of the stresses and benefits that all families are likely to experience, if they are to apply to a selective school.

Chris has an up to date fully enhanced CRB check and also public liability insurance.
You can also find him on the internet listed with various other agencies.

Grammar school education is really rewarding for able students and I hope to get the
chance to show you what the schools are looking for.

Tutoring Approach:

CHEMISTRY
I use boardworks PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.

She obtained her BEd Honours degree in Primary Teaching as a mature student and not only achieved a first class degree, but completed each of her placements as an 'Outstanding' teacher. Becky has a fully enhanced CRB and is trained in the Safeguarding of Children. She has also ensured that she has kept up to date through continued professional development.

Personal Description:
I have a BSc in medicinal chemistry (1st class Hons) with an award winning viva as judged by Sygnature.

I cover all aspects of chemistry encountered up to and including degree level. I am currently studying for my MSc.

I can give sound advice on personal development, exam technique and revision skills.
Having studied medicinal chemistry, a large part of my degree covered human physiology, disease and drugs which is why I also offer biology as a secondary tuition.

Above A-level my speciality is in organic and synthetic chemistry, I can help with all aspects including mechanistic rationale, retrosynthesis and enantio/ stereoselective syntheses as well as the all important dissertation/ viva.

Academic transcripts or examples of my work are available on request.

I'm easy going, clinical and analytical which are all important traits for good academic progression.

I am willing to travel for sessions although travel expenses will need to be covered at 20p/ mile

Teaching Experience:

Creating a colourful life - Loughborough University
These courses ran to educate children between primary and A-level in various aspects of inorganic chemistry. Topics covered were designed to show the diversity of chemistry applied industrially to things such as thermochromic paints, fingerprinting and trace detection.

A-level chemistry tuition - Private tuition 2012 - 2014
I have already tutored a small number of students who have gone on to successfully complete there A - levels with progression to UK universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe strongly that no two people learn in the same manner; while some respond well to repeat readings by themselves, other people learn well through lecturing and taking notes. It's fundamental to get an understanding of this before commencing tutoring, personally i liked having spoken word followed up by practice exam questions to apply the knowledge.

Second to actually tutoring the academic aspects of science, I emphasise the importance of good exam technique. A large part of any tutoring would be aimed at ensuring the student understands what an exam question is asking and what is relevant in response - a sound knowledge with knowing how to apply it is a key to success.

Personal Description:
Well, hello there! My name is Terianne. I am American. From near New York City. I lived in New York City for a long time. Then I moved to Rome and now here I am in fantastic magical Brighton! Well, in Hove, actually! I ride my bicycle to get around, I do yoga, (Bikram hot yoga and other kinds). I organize comedy nights, I write a blog and nothing makes me happier than meeting new people and this is the right place to do it!

Teaching Experience:

I taught for ten years in Rome, Italy at a school called Wall Street School of English. I loved teaching there. The students were fantastic. In addition to grammar and conversation classes, I started a Drama Club and we did shows for the rest of the school at Christmas. I miss it.

I have also taught at Brighton Language College and I have done a lot of private tutoring. Mostly adults or young adults and some children. I have also taught acting and improvisation so my classes are seriously fun. Both serious AND fun.

Tutoring Approach:

I love the English language and I love teaching! English so weird and wacky and expressive. (Maybe you will need a dictionary to look up those words! :-) ) Unfortunately for you, English can be also a bit difficult. I know. But let's not focus on that. Let's focus on having fun, let's focus on the joy of learning and then what will happen is that the silly mistakes we make will only make us laugh. We will laugh a lot and you will learn a lot. That's the best way to learn.

As for me, I am a trained actress and comedienne so I will always keep you entertained and the lessons will always be lively. And I expect you to do your homework! Just because you hire a teacher, doesn't mean you're going to learn: you have to do the work!

Personal Description:
Hi there!

My name is Hamish and I've just finished my second year studying Natural Sciences at Christ's College, Cambridge. Developing a deep understanding of the natural world is something I find incredibly satisfying and I really enjoy helping others gain a solid grasp it too.

My background is firmly rooted in the physical sciences - at school I studied Maths (pure), Physics, Chemistry and Maths (mechanics) to Advanced Higher level (equivalent to A-level in England) and achieved A* grades in all. In my first year at Cambridge I studied Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science, achieving first class grades in all of these subjects and averaging 79 across the board, placing me 14th out of 637 students in my year. In my second year I specialised in Physics and Maths and achieved a first in my examinations. I think this shows I have a deep understanding of my subject and would be able to really get to the root of my students' problems.

Teaching Experience:

In terms of experience, I have tutored Advanced Higher Physics and Maths for around a year now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I used to volunteer as a Youth Leader for my local Scouts group so have experience working with young people. In addition, at Christ's I took part in access events such as open days and student shadowing schemes which required me to be DBS checked.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of teaching style, I aim to improve my students by really making sure they understand the fundamentals of what I'm teaching them rather than trying to make them simply rote learn knowledge. I also am a firm believer in making sure students are continuously practising and applying their knowledge by doing past paper questions - nothing prepares you for an exam better than doing the questions from previous years. I would aim to set questions from past papers as homework and then guide tutees through solutions in our next session.
