Personal Description:
I am a French national who has lived 30+ years in England and after a 25 year career in the secondary and Sixth form sector, I have become self employed as a language trainer and examiner.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in Sixth form colleges for 25 years , tutored evening adult classes at the local College of further Education, I have been a teacher at the Alliance Francaise in Manchester from 2000 to 2010, I am an Advanced Level examiner and have marked the GCSE OCR French exam too. I teach business French in a number of companies.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching one to one, in small or larger groups.
Teaching 16-19 year olds , adults at every level of language learning, preparing University students for their oral / written examinations,in intensive, semi-intensive, regular weekly packages, etc...
I believe in the communicative approach, developing the speaking and listening skills, reading and finally writing, but all depends on the way the learner wishes to use the language. Obviously, in the case of pupils and students, the syllabus has to dictate the format of the preparation..
The important thing is that the learning experience should be pleasant, positive and empowering

Personal Description:
I'm twenty two and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm currently studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Southampton, having completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).

Teaching Experience:

During my GCSE preparation period, and during the exam time also, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I would be very willing to do any type of Key Stage 2, 3 or GCSE Mathematics or Statistics teaching for a person of any age.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 5 - adult, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have helped students to reach required grades, supplementing class teaching, catching up on missed lessons, improving old Maths skills and more recently as a standalone teacher of the entire GCSE syllabus. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills and I have a lot of experience in helping students to believe in themselves!

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for four years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

Personal Description:
A postgraduate student at Cass Business School, studying Actuarial Science. Just graduated from University of Manchester with Mathematics with Finance.
As a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese, I grew up in Hong Kong and had been studied in Malaysia for 2 years and Hong Kong for the rest. In addition, I have 2 younger sisters as a eldest brother and therefore I do well in tutoring. In my past Foundation year, I gained A* in Pure Mathematics, and A* in Business Mathematics and A in Computer. I am convinced that my academic achievement makes me a good fit in tutoring Mathematics for GCSE/A-Level students.

Teaching Experience:

In past, in Hong Kong and Malaysia, I tutored friends and anyone who were around me in Mathematics, which gave me loads of chance to enhance my teaching approaches.
I taught in Manchester last 2 years as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be more than happy to go trough past exam papers and exercises as for Maths with students.
Surely, to prepare notes and advice certain study skills for the students in Mathematics. I reckon that tutoring in a friendly manner would enhance learning process instead of forcing the student to do as said. You are more then welcome to have a briefing before the first tuition in order to make sure we have the same goal.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Heather!

I'm from London and my favourite colour is green.

I hold a First Class Degree in English Literature and Drama from Manchester University. I am also a trained actress.

I've been tutoring for over 5 years, working with students aged 6 years, up to 18, supporting them through KS1-4, GCSE and A'Level/IB curricula. I have also taught English as a foreign language. The content of my tutorials is entirely student- led; i.e I work towards the individual's goals and learning styles. I am experienced in the teaching of essay writing, exam preparation and textual analysis/understanding. The most important thing I can do as a tutor is to empower the student to feel confident in their own abilities and thoughts.

I have worked with students of A Level and GCSE in a diverse range of texts including Victorian Gothic literature, the American Novel, pre and post 1900 poetry, modern drama and theatre studies, post -colonial literature, dystopian literature. All of my students have achieved their personal desired A-C grades, and gained acceptance into the university of their choice.

I have 2 years experience of home schooling Key Stage 2 and 3 literacy and numeracy, with an excellent overview of the curriculum and a variety of techniques to engage different learners. I have worked closely with young learners with dyslexia and Asperger's syndrome.

I also teach drama school audition preparation, public speaking skills and methods of overcoming academic anxiety. I h

Do get in touch if you have any questions!

Heather

Teaching Experience:

-5years as a private tutor
-Assistant Tutor; Kumon Maths (Hampstead Branch)
-6 months as a Teaching Assistant (SEN) ; Carlton Primary School
-2 months as a 1-1 learning and care assistant to a young child with non-verbal cerebral palsy
-On-going voluntary work as a drama wokshop facilitator, (and Hackney Shed Inclusive Theatre Company) both a university and drama school
-TEFL introductory course- Cambridge
-Creative writing teacher training with The Ministry of Stories
-Drama facilitator, Hackney Shed Theatre Company

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring should be a dialogue, not a dictatorship. Each lesson would be highly organized to cater for the requirements and ability level of the individual student. I plan all sessions to include a range of discussion, demonstration, exercises, review of work and homework tasks if required. Crucial to my teaching approach is an easy, flexible engagement with the individual- working to their learning style and objectives, and encouraging the pupil to draw out their own understandings rather than enforce rote learning.

Areas of expertise include: Literature Romantic poetry, contemporary poetry, the dystopian novel, the Gothic novel, WWI literature, post-colonial literature, the early novel, Shakespeare, dramatic writing, film studies. History- Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Russia from Revolution through to the cold war. Apartheid in South Africa, the Suffragette movement, the history of British Education, Chartism. Theatre- Greek theatre, Kabuki, German Expressionism, Melodrama, Realism, Naturalism, Absurdism, post 1950s British drama, contemporary theatre

Personal Description:
I'm a physics student entering my fourth and final year of my Physics MSci degree at Imperial College London having achieved first class results in all three years so far and ranking within the top 10% of my year. Alongside my physics studies, I'm an active musician - a member of the Imperial College Symphony Orchestra, Imperial College Big Band and former member of the NYOW - and an aspiring software developer.

Teaching Experience:

Since beginning 6th form, I have tutored local secondary and primary school students privately, arranged official after-school revision sessions for GCSE students with my school friends, partaken in numeracy schemes for younger secondary school students requiring additional assistance, and was required to present topics, such as energy wastage, to KS3 classes as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate (which I also passed but was unable to fit in the Qualifications section below).

In my second year of university, I enrolled in a Communicating Physics course which entailed visiting, teaching in and providing teaching resources for a London secondary school for a period of 11 weeks. This is also indicative of my continuing enjoyment of, sharing my understanding and passion for my subjects with younger students.

Tutoring Approach:

Enjoying the experience of learning and understanding is, I feel, of utmost importance to academic success. My approach to tutoring is one which promotes this.

Personal Description:
Hi!

My journey into the Martial Arts began aged 19. I was looking for self discipline and defence skills which would help boost my confidence and help me gain insight into my life purpose. I had researched various styles of combative arts and Ju Jitsu appealed to me. I had some experience of judo and karate, but Ju Jitsu I felt, would be better suited to street self defence.

I have trained with some exceptional people in my 12 years of martial arts. Seeking teachers and students alike who were looking for substance and integrity, not just the ability to destroy the body. I feel privileged to have gained a vast and varied skill set which has been infused with training with teachers and students of other disciplines including Brazilian Ju Jitsu, Thai Boxing, Greco Wrestling, Kali to name a few.

I gained my Instructor level 1st Dan in Ju Jitsu in 1999. I have taught self defence to people from all walks of life from 16 years to 70 years!

I am also a qualified Master Tui Na practitioner, which is a medical massage that is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (it has nothing to do with the dark side of the unregulated Chinese Medicine market that deals in animal parts).
I studied Tui Na with Bodyharmonics who are the Mercati family based in Cheltenham, gaining Credit and Distinction diplomas in Foundation/Master Tui Na Practitioner in 2003/04.

I also have many years experience of meditation techniques and have also gained Reiki Master/Teacher level in Hands and Feet lineage. I am qualified and insured to teach Reiki to Master level.

I have always had a inquisitive and respectful approach to acquiring new skill sets and firmly believe that self discovery and teaching others with respect and compassion is earned and returned not by how many pieces of paper may be on one's wall, but by how we treat ourselves and others.

Teaching Experience:

Ju Jitsu - Self Defence - 1989 to 2003 under supervision/instruction of Master Jeff Sawyer 6th Dan Ju Jitsu

Reiki Workshops & Level I, II and Master - 2008 to present

Introduction to Tui Na Massage, including Baby/Infant Massage

(** Please note that travel costs are charged at 40p per mile **)

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, approachable and have a calm disposition.

I have many years experience of teaching private students in all my disciplines.

In 2012/13 I gained a City & Guilds PTTL's qualification to complement my teaching at Exeter College. I am qualified to teach 16 years onwards privately, in the workplace and in adult education centres.

Tutoring Approach:

My approcah to teaching is best summed up as student-problem-based learning, in which the student attempts to solve problems that they have identified as of stimulating interest to themselves and relevant to their intended qualifications. I believe that all learning starts with the student's own first rudimentary explorations of an issue. I act as a conversational and critical guide through this journey, providing reading material, questions, and formal techniques of citation.

My YouTube channel, currently with 38,000 view, is available for my students to consult.

Typically, a student will select an issue/question in philosophy, we will discuss it one-to-one, and then the student will produce a short essay on the issue, which we will critically discuss in the following session.

I am also available for one-on-one study days (consisting of 6 hours each) for 160.

Rating: *****
Dr Bhavana has by far outshone any other tutor we have recruited. She has allocated a regular slot, understands her subjects of triple science fully, is both empathetic and encouraging and has fostered a brilliant tutor relationship with my daughter. Visible positive results are being achieved every week.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to offer students as many learning opportunities as possible in order to engage, motivate and prepare them for future life. I also believe that differentiation and meeting varied learning styles are keys to effective teaching and learning.

*Professional and high-quality tutoring (verified with enhanced DBS)

*1-to-1 support: discussions, hands-on activities, differentiated worksheets, revision cards and exam questions (short and long
answers), interactive PowerPoint slides and educational videos.

*Revision mats, summary notes & exam questions will be provided.

* A trial lesson will be provided to assess a prospective tutee's requirements.
