Personal Description:
I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. My hobbies are reading and writing (for leisure), travelling and sightseeing, aerobics and swimming. I could however easily call teaching one of my hobbies because I always find myself teaching people wherever I go!

Teaching Experience:

I was a primary school teacher for 16 years but I also did private tutoring as a sideline. I taught English to the age group 9-10years and outside working hours I taught adult literacy classes. I think I did well because I always found myself with so many private students to teach that sometimes it was hard to cope . All the same I enjoyed every minute of it. I have also recently qualified as an EFL teacher and am hoping to start soon.

Tutoring Approach:

When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. I am saying this with a view to teaching adults because that is what I hope to do. I also believe in teaching in a very relaxed environment that is conducive to learning so I always try and get rid of all distractions before we start. I have been known to be a good teacher and I hope I will continue with my good style and reputation.

Personal Description:
I have a life-long love of English in general and of Shakespeare in particular, and have always enjoyed communicating that enthusiasm to other people, helping them to develop understanding, confidence, appreciation and a love of language. I have an MA degree in English from Cambridge University and am an IGCSE examiner for the Cambridge International Examinations Board.

My early background in retail management, several years at director level in international advertising, then thirty years as a teacher, with theatre running as a constant thread throughout my life, all combine to make me a particularly effective communicator.

As well as offering private tuition, I also run school drama workshops, direct plays, and work as a freelance writer/editor and voice-over. I have been involved in over fifty theatrical productions - acting or directing - as well as giving regular readings and public presentations.

Having lived and worked professionally for several years in France, I am fluent in French and can offer coaching in French literature and language.

"Simon is the complete professional, directing and managing large-scale productions, nurturing emerging talent, and running a very successful education programme, as well as being an inspirational teacher himself." (Arnold D. - former colleague)

PLEASE NOTE: I am now largely unavailable until mid-July 2017 but do get in touch in case we can discuss possibilities.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a Head of English and Drama at independent schools for over twenty-five years, and am regarded as a charismatic and inspirational teacher. I have many years' experience of Drama in general and Shakespeare in particular on and off stage (studying, teaching, acting and directing).

"Every pupil has selective memories of their teachers. Every past pupil I ever meet selects Simon as their most memorable teacher. They remember his effervescence in the classroom, his delight in their achievements and his encyclopaedic knowledge of Shakespeare." (Tim R. - colleague since 1987)

"Simon was simply a brilliant Head of Department, being that rare combination of high academic and able, articulate communicator. His subject knowledge is unmatched in all my teaching experience, especially of Shakespeare's works, and his inspired teaching produced enthusiastic, successful pupils during his twenty years." (Kay C. - colleague since 1998)

Tutoring Approach:

Need to gain more confidence with spoken or written language? Find Shakespeare hard to cope with, or poetry difficult to understand? Wish to develop your creative writing ability? Need to practise interview technique and improve presentation skills?

I can help. I give coaching in drama, literary analysis and practical criticism, particularly of poetry, and I specialise in teaching Shakespeare. In addition, my earlier background in advertising and marketing is particularly useful in helping students develop their interview technique and presentation skills.

If distance is a problem, I am happy to offer on-line tuition, such as via Skype.

(For adults wishing to learn more about Shakespeare or to understand and appreciate poetic technique, I am happy to undertake small groups - please enquire about special rates.)

"Simon is an inspirational teacher of English Language, Literature and of Drama. His ability to engage and motivate pupils is of the highest order as is his pursuit of excellence in all that he does, both within the classroom situation and in workshops. All of this is well reflected in the results he has achieved, in particular with both academic English and Drama scholarship candidates over his years in post." (Dr Gerry H.)

Personal Description:
My name is Chris and I specialise in preparing students for both the 11+ entrance exams and A-level chemistry exams. Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

Chris has been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry since 1994 and as an ex-Head of Chemistry who has worked in both state schools and private schools, he has helped countless students achieve the high grades they often need for university entrance. Many of my ex-students have gone on to vet school, medical school and Ox-bridge.

Chris has also been teaching Key Stage 3 since 1994 and has a good understanding of the level of written work and mathmatical ability expected of the most able Year 7 students when they begin Secondary School. He has helped countless students to achieve their potential throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and earlier in his career he was employed as Head of Lower School Science at Kelly College Independent School in Tavistock, Devon.

Chris has a boy and a girl who have both been through the 11+ process and so is well aware of the stresses and benefits that all families are likely to experience, if they are to apply to a selective school.

Chris has an up to date fully enhanced CRB check and also public liability insurance.
You can also find him on the internet listed with various other agencies.

Grammar school education is really rewarding for able students and I hope to get the
chance to show you what the schools are looking for.

Tutoring Approach:

CHEMISTRY
I use boardworks PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.
£28 is the 1:1 rate but evening sessions are likely to be small tutorials of a maximum of 4 students in the same year following the same course at a cost of £24 per student.

ELEVEN PLUS
For 11+, I teach collaboratively with my neighbour Becky, also listed on UK Tutors. We jointly teach small groups with class sizes limited to a maximum of ten students. Students in a small group support each other and work together with a shared purpose and confidence.
Weekly 60 minute sessions at £17.50, run from September until the end of February. These are followed by 75 minute sessions at £20 which run from March to the September exams. Payment is monthly in advance, preferably by bank transfer.

Becky is a knowledgeable Primary School teacher with experience across the primary age range. She has a particular interest in enabling children to reach their full potential, using interesting teaching strategies and by recognising various learning styles. She obtained her BEd Honours degree in Primary Teaching as a mature student and not only achieved a first class degree, but completed each of her placements as an 'Outstanding' teacher. Becky has a fully enhanced CRB and is trained in the Safeguarding of Children. She has also ensured that she has kept up to date through continued professional development.
Becky is married with two daughters who have both passed the 11 plus exams.

Personal Description:
I lived and worked in France from 1982 to 1985. I have always spent the summer holidays from the age of 12 living with a French family and feel equally at home in France or England. From school age I knew I wanted to travel and find new places learning the language as I went. I love to communicate and enjoy meeting people and getting to know them and want to pass on the enthusiasm I feel for all things French. I enjoy reading, music, films and French food isn't bad either.

Teaching Experience:

My initial teaching experience was with 'Le Club Francais' where I was in charge of a weekly after school club of 5 - 11 year olds. This was great fun as learning was channelled through games.
My friend's son had extra lessons after school to pass his oral French which he did with flying colours and commendation from his teacher.
A teacher from a nearby school wanted to move to France, so asked for help with pronunciation and grammar.
I have also translated a marketing leaflet for a company in Bradford and am the voice at the end of a help line for French speaking residents who wish to move house.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that enjoyment is the motivation for learning. To make sure that a lesson is visually, orally and kinaesthetically appealing to students will ensure maximum attention span and maximise learning and long term memory retention. I have quite an approachable personality and am a good listener, which is important in establishing boundaries (for both learner and teacher) and to iron out any potential problems or misunderstandings that could arise. I have a very flexible approach to tutoring because every student has a unique way of learning and therefore am always open to suggestion to improve my knowledge.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified maths teacher, and a highly experienced tutor. And Ex cambridge graduate, after completing a PCSE in maths, I taught in schools in staffordshire and Oxfordshire before moving to exeter an becoming a full time maths tutor, which I have been for the best part of seventeen years, with great success. My specialism is making that extra difference to grades, changings D into B's and C into A's.

Teaching Experience:

I have PGCE (Cert Maths), from Keele university, and have taught in schools in staffordshire and oxford. My main specialism is though teaching in small classes and tailoring what I teach to what a small group actually needs, and one can be done at the one to one level.

Tutoring Approach:

I pride myself on a threefold approach. Firstly maths tutoring is of course all about listening to the pupil and working out both exactly what they needs to learn, and how one should teach it. Secondly based on my my many years of experience I know what tends to slip in class room teaching and how that slip can effect learning elsewhere, allowing me to tackle problems any problems in maths at the root, and so making the entire process much easier. Finally, I place lot of emphasis on how one reads maths questions and tackles actual problems. As a maths teacher one all too frequently encounters pupils whose maths is fine, and it is their reading of question (which often seem that they are written in a language of their own), that is the issue. I am therefore very experience in showing how the maths one knows relates to the question one is actually asked. The importance of this cannot be over emphasised - the difference between an A and a B grade is a difference in ones ability to read the question and find its meaning - and then how one does it under pressure… I am also (in another life) a storyteller, performer and philosopher , and use a lot of storytelling, funny *memorable facts from the history of maths, as very much part on my teaching practice.

Personal Description:
I am a self employed musican and tutor. I come from an academic physics background having achieved a first class masters in Physics during 2008-2012. Since then I have branched out considerably, moving towards musical and dramatic performance in my professional life. I am a self employed tutor, drum teacher and session drummer. I retain a keen interest in all things Physics and Maths and have a passion for teaching. Having ADD I'm particularly skilful at helping students with that condition and also dyslexia/dyspraxia. Finally, I'm also a training actor, and am currently preparing to take my grade 6 exam at LAMBDA, London. The training has helped me achieve exceptional verbal communication ability, a fantastic asset for any teacher.

In my spare time I write and record songs. I am an accomplished singer.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor for 2 years during which time I have had much success in raising students achievement in both short and longer term arrangements. I have helped students move from middle and lower sets to the top many times. I also teach drums from my studio in Cheltenham.

During 2013/2014 I was enrolled on a PGCE secondary science course which I left as I did not believe that the teaching style I was being asked to apply was adequately aspiring for my students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am an experienced Physics and Maths tutor specialising in an approach tailored towards my students unique needs and talents. I treat every student as an individual and have had much success in working with previously struggling or underachieving students, finding and bridging the barriers to their learning. Having spent a lot of time working with students struggling in middle and lower sets, I have learned never to assume that a student cannot excel in Maths or Physics; my goal is to give each student the opportunity to perform at their best, but most importantly to enjoy the process of learning, the true path to long lasting achievement!

I firmly believe in empowering students to take charge of their own study. To do this, I choose not to focus on parrot learning exam questions but rather, focus on giving students more challenging and novel problems which I set from my own bank of exercises which I continuously add to. I am a firm believer in setting homework and it is very important that student's engage with this. My philosophy is not just to work towards getting the right answer but to value all the steps in between, for it is in these paths and throughout the missteps and epiphanies along the way where all the learning takes place.

Personal Description:
Friendly and patient University of Southampton Master's Aerospace Engineering graduate. Achieved A* grades at A Level in Maths and Physics, so I have a very good knowledge about what is required to get good grades. In my degree I covered very advanced mathematics and physics, hence why I am comfortable in teaching Further Maths students also. I am now currently an Aerospace Engineer at Airbus.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught various engineers last summer for work experience, but cannot boast too much teaching experience, other than I know I am good at it! I used to teach friends on my university course and they always said how great I was at explaining problems they found mind numming. I also have a lot experience being in a classroom with top class professors, which I have learnt a lot from.

Tutoring Approach:

I am quite a visual teacher and I like to compare problems to real life scenarios. I prefer my students to fully understand the foundations of problems before they start the problem and to fully understand the material which they are working on.

Personal Description:
I'm a recent maths graduate from Cambridge, with a real passion for conveying concepts in unique ways. I first starting tutoring when I was in school, and quickly learnt how challenging, yet satisfying it could be, to break ideas down into their most simplest forms. I'm tutoring over the next few months for all school level maths (up to A-level maths and further maths, and even STEP maths) and look forward to working with you!

Teaching Experience:

I've tutored many students both GCSE and A-level Maths (Modules C1-4, FP1-3, M1-3 and S1-2) over the last few years, and really enjoy it! Most of these students went on to achieve A* grades, but I taylor each lesson to suit each individual student.

Tutoring Approach:

It's impossible to explain my approach to tutoring here as it varies hugely for each student - if for example the student is familiar with the topic but wants extra practice, I start with a few questions to ascertain his/her level, and then cement it with further teaching, trying to explain any unfamiliar concepts in several different ways. If a topic is new however, I will try to build it up from previously-seen ideas, to give a motivated approach to the subject and it's uses. My first lesson is always half price, so that you can see whether you like my tutoring style in 1 lesson before continuing.

I am an 18 year old student living in Harpenden. I`m currently on my gap year. I am intending to study Maths and Economics at university next September. I primarily tutor Maths, at any age, but I can also tutor for spelling and grammar, and also French.

I have achieved an A in FSMQ an A* in Maths IGCSE an A* in Maths A Level and an A in Further Maths A Level. I have been tutoring on and off for over a year.

Teaching Experience:

I tutor several children on a weekly basis, between the ages of 7 and 18. This includes Primary, KS3, GCSE and iGCSE, Functional Maths Skills 1 and 2, AS Level, Common Entrance 11+ and 13+, entrance tests for universities in the UK and US.

I also have experience with young children, babysitting regularly. I also have a DBS check and a clean driver`s license and a car, so I can drive to anyone within a reasonable distance.

I charge £20 per hour if you're interested.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach lessons in a relaxed manner. I want to encourage students to think for themselves and suggest topics and questions to cover that they need help on. This often includes going beyond the curriculum. If they appear shy do this I will of course provide encouragement. I really strive to promote an appreciation for maths, and hope that my students enjoy the lessons I spend with them.

Personal Description:
Face to Face Tuition or Online Tuition. My name is Katharina, I am from Austria and I am currently working as an artist and language teacher in Nottingham. I primary do conversational classes in combination with grammar, because from my own experience I think talking is the key to learn a language and to get a real and natural feeling for it.
I am a very positive person, I like talking and laughing with people and I am a good motivator.

I have been living in Spain for 4 years (studying Spanish culture and language and photography and film) and in Berlin for 7 years. Since January 2016 I am living in Nottingham.
I love learning and teaching languages.

I usually tutor at home, but am happy to consider a central Nottingham location but occasionally I also travel to tutees but I'm afraid I have to charge a contribution for that as it displaces tutoring time.

Teaching Experience:

German: I have 5 years experience teaching German to all levels. It is going to be a combination of reading, understanding, talking about different subjects, and grammar.

Spanish: I have 10 years of Spanish practice and I have taught Spanish for over 5 years. I have studied Spanish language and culture at the University of Barcelona.

I also do online tutoring, in case you live to far. My students have made good experience. I prepare grammar, texts, different subjects to discuss and send them during our Skype Talk over to you. Online tutoring is 20£ an hour.

Tutoring Approach:

The way I teach a language depends on my student. If required we are going to have a very relaxed conversation lesson with talking about different subject, I bring you texts we will read and discuss together.
If my student wants to have a more focused grammar lesson, I prepare the lesson and we will use the grammar in dialogues, so you practice talking.

I am a good motivator, because I myself love languages, I think learning languages should be combined with fun, talking etc... not only GRAMMAR!!! This is a key of my tutoring!!!
