I have a wealth of experience working with children and teenagers from being a Christmas grotto host at Harrods to volunteering at Great Ormond Street Hospital for over a year.

My work ethic when I was younger was not as disciplined as it is now and I am aware of the difficulties that students can face when it comes to learning new concepts and hope to help tutees overcome these barriers.

Having applied to grammar school, university and medical school I am aware of all the application processes and interviewing processes.

I am outgoing and to keep active I play hockey for my local club and my university college.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped younger family members to grasp ideas and offer new ways of learning if they were struggling. I have had job roles in the past training new employees up and feel this is a mode of teaching.

I would like to extend my higher knowledge to helping students achieve top grades in their GCSE's and A-levels

Within my current course we have peer to peer teaching which has proved to be a very effective learning tool.

Tutoring Approach:

Different individuals have different learning styles, I for one am more visual. I would try to get an understanding of how the tutee learns best, and encourage them to engage in activities that would help them. For instance, if they are visual learners then get them to draw things out.

Encouragement and patience is of great importance and listening to the needs of the individual.

Personal Description:
I have a very broad based scientific knowledge that I have developed throughout a lifetime devoted to academic and applied research. I hold a BSc degree in chemistry and zoology and a PhD in endocrine physiology. I have worked abroad in a medical research laboratory, at the Max plank Institute for Biochemistry, where I investigated the genetic basis for hereditary diseases of connective tissue. During that time I became a fluent German speaker. Subsequently I worked for over 25 years as a senior scientist at Rothamsted Research, which is a world renowned Plant Research Institute. At Rothamsted I acquired specialised knowledge in soil science, plant nutrient acquisition, molecular biology, metabolite chemistry, plant biotic stress and chemical ecology. Consequently, I can offer an in depth and up to date knowledge of a number of different areas relevant to the A level biology and chemistry curricula and to the three GCSE science subjects. Also, I have a unique perspective that I bring to my tutoring that emanates from my professional scientific experience. I believe that I can introduce a fresh angle to the learning experience that builds upon that acquired in the class room.

Teaching Experience:

Through out my career as a scientist, teaching and mentoring has been an integral part of my activities. I have taught a number of graduate and undergraduate students, visiting workers, other colleagues and junior members of staff to acquire theoretical, practical and communication (both written and oral) skills. I have undertaken in house training as a PhD supervisor and I have played a major role in the supervision of at least six PhD students and three bursary students. All have successfully completed their experimental tasks, written their theses and gone on to progress their careers.
I am an experienced speaker at International and National conferences and I have delivered seminars and lectures to both specialist and non specialist audiences.
I have organised practical projects for groups of students from local secondary schools as part of the requirement for the CREST award. One of the projects involved measuring vitamin C levels in different foods and the students were surprised to discover that cabbage was the best source. In another project different varieties of barley were tested for their tolerance to high levels of salt and the students were able to establish that the most tolerant varieties accumulated salt in their leaves.
Since leaving full time science (due to funding cuts) I have initiated a career in private tutoring to A level and GCSE students. I have been teaching up to thirty pupils concurrently, either in my home or in their own homes. I have been employed at Kings College London to teach an A level Chemistry access course, which involves delivering 4 hours of lectures per week to a group of students from overseas. I have also taken a course to qualify as a teacher of English as a foreign language (CELTA/PTLLS). During the course I gained experience in teaching both elementary and advanced intermediate adult students from a range of different nationalities.
I was a school governor for many years and partly as a result of this I was often called upon to prepare students for university interviews, particularly for science, medicine and dentistry.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a student centred approach to teaching, trying to understand the needs of the individual pupil and tailoring the lesson content accordingly. By limiting the amount of "teacher talk" at the outset I try to provide the student with the opportunity to convey what their interests and aptitudes are and what areas of the subject they may be struggling with, so that they can benefit maximally from my tutoring. I consider it essential that I build their confidence and create an atmosphere where they are happy to participate actively in the lessons and test out their ideas. I attribute great importance to positive rapport with the student and try to develop a trusting relationship, both with the pupil and, if apropriate, with the parents.
I plan the lessons carefully, always starting with targeted questions before moving on to detailed explanations of problem areas. I have a large collection of past papers which I use to re enforce the learning and check understanding. For particularly difficult topics, photosynthesis, respiration and oxidative phosphorylation for example, I find it helpful to recap in the subsequent lesson to ensure that the student has grasped the important concepts inorder to enable them to answer the questions confidently in an exam situation.
Obviously, I enjoy teaching keen students who have an ambition to pursue science further but I also find it rewarding to make lessons interesting and enjoable for those who are less engaged with the subject.

I am a Doctor qualified from King`s College London, with an additional First Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology with Basic Medical Sciences. I have published papers in highly regarded medical journals and am able to provide links to these if interested. I achieved 3A`s at A Level, 9A*s and 2As at GCSE.

Teaching Experience:

I am passionate about teaching, with a vast array of teaching experience amongst all levels and abilities. My particular strength and prior experience is in medical school applications and interview technique. I have experience with students who have studied at the UK's top medical universities.

Tutoring Approach:

The aims of my sessions are in helping candidates get one foot in the door by constructing a solid personal statement and application that maximally shows off their skills, attributes and suitability to a career in medicine in such short space. I know how difficult this can be!

Having achieved interview, I also help candidates present themselves on interview day in the best possible fashion, working through questions, current themes and the odd curveball so that they are fully prepared for the important medical interview.

I am a recent UCL maths Msci graduate and I know how to get incredibly high marks on exams. My average mark on my A level maths/further maths was 92%. In a couple of the more interesting modules (FP1, C4), I got 100%. I continued this academic excellence into my undergraduate, my average was 82%, I did the hardest analysis / algebra courses.

Tutoring is not a side project for me. It is a vocation I genuinely want to pursue to the fullest extent.
When I look at my achievements, I don't quite believe them: I grew up on a deprived council estate in Wolverhampton, life could have been so different. This is why I have applied for a PGCE; so that I may uplift others.
I am unique in that for a period of my adolescence (GCSE), I was home schooled. I know very well the challenges that home-schooled people face.
I was known as the "Ideas Man" in the maths common room at UCL: two years ago I gave an hour long talk at UCL on quaternion analysis for the The Mathematics Colloquium. I also helped a number of students with their own Colloquium talks. I am currently preparing a series of talks on relativistic fluid mechanics.
In my spare time I answer people's questions on math.stackexchange (my reputation score is currently 223). I also write poetry related to my mathematical interests. Aside from maths. I'm a huge computer games enthusiast (typical maths nerd!) and attend philosophy debates.
Availability:
My timetable is nearly full (12/16 hours of tuition weekly).
I am away from London: 23rd of December until 2nd of January.

I started tutoring part time while I was studying in February, and I have been a full time tutor since graduation in August.

Tutoring Approach:

Maths lessons can be very daunting, with the teacher often moving on from key methods to difficult questions too quickly. One-to-one tuition is great because I can make sure a student really understands the fundamentals behind concepts, before tackling specific questions.
Rather than teach superficial 'tricks' to get answers, which often backfire in exams, I always give students a genuine grounding in a way of thinking about problems. It's also great that my students can ask the questions they've always wondered about in class, but been too self-conscious to ask.
I am experienced in providing custom-made handouts that cater to the individual needs of my students. The handouts usually cover things that cannot be reasonably tutored during lessons, and novel and instructive ways of solving problems.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Laurence, and I am a local private English tutor.
I have a degree in English Literature (2:1).
I am a fully qualified teacher, and have my QTS certificate (Qualified Teacher Status) to prove it.
My experience of exam marking for GCSE's, leading English Departments and being classified by Ofsted as an 'Outstanding' teacher ensures that progress is accelerated, meaningful and genuine.

Teaching Experience:

I have been Head of Department, GCSE Manager, Monitoring and Assessment Manager, a GCSE Exam marker, an A Level exam marker and I am also consistently classified as 'Outstanding' according to Ofsted requirements.

My largest concern for my students is to make sure that their confidence is built up by becoming pro-active and independent learners. All too often teachers 'spoon-feed' their students, leading them to a false sense of security in their skills, which therefore leads to poor performance in examinations.

I also view myself as an 'English Coach', as I place a very big emphasis on ensuring that students have the right frame of mind when approaching studying English. I have held the post of Head of English at a school in Staffordshire, and I have led a team of exceptional English teachers. Having held other management positions in other schools as well, with management focus on both key Stage 3 and 4, I have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge that I can now put to good use within the sphere of personal tuition.

I am also an experienced examiner, having marked for a leading exam body for five years now. This has helped me enormously to build up a very clear understanding of what exam boards require from students.

Last year's results saw a continuation of my fine record of exam success, where my class achieved 100% A-C in their GCSE examinations. Personal Description:
I've always been a keen mathematician and in turn have developed a strong understanding of the concepts of physics. I have taken on extra mathematics classes where ever I can, including attending math summer schools and also taking on Further Maths as an extra A-Level, which involved me teaching the course to myself. Applying Maths to Physics has strengthened my understanding Maths greatly.

Alongside tutoring, I am also a musician. I sing, play piano and guitar in a two piece band.

Teaching Experience:

I've experienced teaching a wide age range of individuals, including primary school children when assisting my mother's classes at Taverham Hall Private school. I also attended mathematics summer schools, both as a student completing tasks and presenting the outcomes to peers, and also as an assistant teaching students mathematical methods in preparation for A Level mathematics.

I am also a tutor for London Science Tutors. This is for individuals who studied at either Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, Imperial or LSE to teach a range of sciences and mathematics. I have been teaching mathematics and physics to a range of pupils, starting from 11 to 18.

Personal Description:
Let me introduce myself, I've been an Enrichment Teaching now for over 20 years, my area of teaching has been dedicated to the younger generation between 3-11year-olds, offering them unique individually designed study support from homework projects to the school curriculum.

I originally set up my first Pre-school Enrichment Centre in 2002, which I'm proud to say, is still running 15 years later in North London, England. I'm also part-owner of an Enrichment Centre in Boca Raton, Florida.

Over the years I've experienced many different formats in teaching. Personally, I like to work with 3-dimensional methods, as it gives each child the opportunity to learn through a style that best suits their needs and helps build confidence.

No matter if your child is enhancing in subjects, or just needs that personal TLC to catch up, opening that door of opportunity is the best thing any parent and tutor can offer.
