Personal Description:
Professional teacher for over 30 years specialising in adult education and teenagers.

I have taught at all levels, including at Universities, around the world and am happy to travel where necessary.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for over 20 years around the world teaching IT and related subjects for companies such as Learning Tree, Peritas and IBM. I was one of the first qualified network engineers in the UK.

In 2006 I took and passed the Cambridge University CELTA course and exams and now teach English as a foreign language either one to one or to small groups ranging in age from 14 to adult both in the UK and in schools across Europe.

Business related courses include presentation skills and the art of public speaking; gender dysfunctionality courses and IT services courses (operating systems, networking, technologies, A+ etc)

Tutoring Approach:

With English the aim is to provide a personal conversation led approach to learning supported by written exercises to confirm the rules. Depending on the numbers involved the approach is practical and involves music, role playing, presentations, reading and writing skills. All training is geared to the needs of the individual and there is no set approach.

Language teaching can be more effective in groups and the cost for 2-4 students is 25 per hour. Please ask about larger group sizes.

All teaching can be for groups of up to 16. Costs will depend on numbers and location. Please ask for a quote. All rates exclude traveling costs and teaching materials.

Personal Description:
I am a 26 year old graduate of Museum Studies MA/HONS from Bournemouth University. My university education began with York St John University gaining a 2:1 BA/HONS. At York University Masters degree in Medieval history at and later traveling down to Bournemouth completing a course reading Museum Studies.
During my studies at York I worked as a Tour guide with the company York Walk, as a researcher, historic adviser and presenter for Unicorn films and a research volunteer for the Rowntree society. Whilst continuing my studies I worked at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and the Poole Museum as a volunteer curator.
I have since September 2011 finished my studies, I have resumed my part time job as a Tour guide in York.

I find the topic of history fascinating, over the last few years I have begun to focus on the history of the Vikings in England, Scotland, Norway and Denmark; though my interests are much more diverse and cover the 2000 year history of Britain as well as Europe. However I do enjoy enthusing about the subject, and consider the ability to pass on enthusiasm to be the key to being a successful tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have shadowed a GCSE and A level class at the Fulford School, Mathematics and Computing College‎
National Maritime Museum Cornwall took four 1/2 hour sessions

Tutoring Approach:

I take a structured approach which blends the formal and informal.
With a knowledge of the required syllabus if n formal education, a more formal and structured approach will be adopted, but in these circumstances will always encourage participation.
If teaching students who are not subject to a narrow syllabus I will always aim to nurture their own innate curiosity for the subject of history.
The goal as I see it is to pass on my innate curiosity for the subject by encouraging participation through research and leading by example.
I am acquainted with different learning styles and I will be willing to adapt my approach to deal with learners of any ability.
Indeed as I take a flexible attitude towards tutoring if given particular instructions I will be more than happy to adopt a new style
In teaching an historical subject I will always endeavor to teach through first hand documentation introducing the student to the primary material before introducing the later revisionist work.

Personal Description:
I enjoy maths and helping other people to enjoy it too. I have always kept up my interest in maths by studying with the Open University and I particularly enjoy finding ways to use games and puzzles to create interest and understanding. I worked in business computing and always enjoyed the training side of the job. At the moment I am working as a private tutor, helping my husband to renovate and restore a seventeenth century house and training an unruly young sprollie dog.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE in secondary maths teaching and taught in a secondary school for one year. During my career in IT as an analyst/programmer I trained staff in programming techniques, and also trained users as part of the implementation of the many systems I was involved in. My enjoyment of maths and teaching led me to refresh and extend my skills by studying for a PGCE in post compulsory education. During the course of this I gained experience of whole class teaching, one to one and small group tutoring at GCSE and A-level.

I have now been working as a private tutor with individual pupils for a year and am learning all the time! I have experience of students taking GCSE maths for the first time and with those doing resits. I can offer tuition up to AS level (C1, C2, S1). I have experience of working with students with dyslexia. I am also an Adult Education Tutor and work with people returning to maths later in life.

Tutoring Approach:

I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this - many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear - a little one to one help can turn all that around. I aim to give my students a good understanding of the subject rather than learning one-off tricks and rules.

The following is an unsolicited testimonial from one of my tutee's parents:

"Deborah is a very professional tutor and always tries to make our son's weekly maths tutorial as beneficial, creative and enjoyable as possible. She is very dedicated and prepared to listen and help and follows up her tutorials with useful homework for our son to work on during the week. You can see how much personal satisfaction she gets from helping our son, which is great.

I would not hesitate to fully recommend Deborah and her approach to tutoring maths. She clearly cares about her work and helping children to get to grips with maths."

Personal Description:
I offer tuition in maths for all ages, up to and including Maths and Further Maths A-levels. I also offer coaching for Numeracy and Numerical Reasoning tests such as SHL recruitment selection tests. If you need a bit of extra help for an upcoming exam, or even if you are just keen to widen your skills base with some general functional mathematics coaching, I would be keen to help.

Teaching Experience:

I am a full-time maths teacher in the Nottinghamshire area with a number of years' experience both tutoring and teaching, and currently teaching all ages and abilities from year 7 to A-level Maths and Further Maths, including the new Further Maths Level 2 qualification which is an excellent bridge between top-end GCSE and the start of A-level Maths. I am a Maths graduate from the University of Warwick, and I hold a PGCE from Warwick Institute of Education. I have a full Enhanced Disclosure CRB.

Tutoring Approach:

I appreciate how difficult and disheartening it can be to struggle with maths, but I also believe that, when presented in the right way, it can be both interesting and enjoyable (as well as extremely useful!) I favour a student-driven style of tutoring, with an emphasis on finding the root causes of any difficulties in order to strengthen a base of understanding before jumping forward to new topics.

Personal Description:
I am an Italian artist based in London, I graduated with Distinction from the MA programme at the Slade School of Fine Art and, since then, I have been working at research, installation, education and participation projects in the UK and internationally.
My practice relies on knowledge of a variety of media and materials, moving between traditional and experimental approaches: Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Digital Media and Installation. I ground my work in an extensive formation and vivid interest in the History and Theory of Art, and in the Humanities, with a focus on Languages, the Linguistic structures and Literature of my native Italian and English.
I offer private teaching of Art and art related subjects in English or Italian, as well as teaching Italian for speakers of other languages, especially through the exploration of Arts, Literature and culture.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching skills have been formed and enriched by a variety of experiences:

- over 8 years of one-to-one tutoring.
At all levels and specifically tailored for each tutee's needs, interests and characteristics. Can cover: Art, Contemporary Drawing and Painting, Life Drawing, Art Theory, English grammar and conversation for foreigners, Italian grammar, conversation and literature for foreigners, and general studying, writing, reading and speaking skills.

- 5 years of creating and delivering art workshops for children and young adults.
Working with schools, art institutions (recently: Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Milan, Wysing Arts Centre, Cambridge and Istituto Sacro Cuore Primary School) and with the Arts Awards scheme by Trinity College London. My workshops on learning through imagination have found the support of an Incentive Award to the Art Practice by Brera Academy of Fine Art (2012).

- Adult art teaching, privately and in institutions (The Slade Summer School 2014, 2015 and 2016)

- Art lecturing and presentations include: University of West London UWL, Universitΰ di Milano Bicocca UnimiB, A-levels Art students from Liceo Artistico Sacro Cuore, The Slade Summer Foundation students, Circuit Cambridge young people programme at Kettle's Yard and Wysing Arts Centre.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring builds upon my enthusiasm for sharing passion and knowledge, combined with high professional standards and knowledge of teaching methods. My teaching always tries to happen in relation to hands-on and on-the-field experiences, to procede breaking down and making sense the notions and concepts they make available. Seriousness, commitment and progress in learning thus go hand in hand with interest, curiosity and enjoyment.

Personal Description:
Playing the Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele, Banjo and Harmonica and creating traditional Fine Art have been and are a major part of my life. Much as I would have very much liked to do, I never had the opportunity to become a Professional Performing Musician or a fully Professional Fine Artist . I have performed in public of course, and held exhibitions, but very rarely on a professional/paid basis. I have been a guitarist for over 45 years and an artist for 23 years

I studied art at the Thanet Schools of Art & the Ravensbourne College of Art and Design (the same College David Bowie went to)
for two and a half years. After that I had a twenty two year absence from art.

A change came in 1992: It was during a period of Long Term Unemployment. Whilst signing on at my local Job Center, I volunteered to go on an "Employment Action Course. In a sense this was a form of working for your benefit and was paid an extra £10 per week on top of Job Seekers Allowance. Hopefully this would have lead to work prospects, ideally in Art or The Arts. I had to report to a work placement provider who asked me what skills I had, to which I said "Art" and was assigned to a local Community Arts Center based in Gillingham Kent and appointed as a publicity designer and resources worker.

Whilst in my publicity artist role I was introduced to the then K.C.C Arts Promotion Officer Jim Shean who took interest in my art work and arranged an exhibition hire space without charge at my local library, the event was covered on Radio Kent's "Scene & Heard" Program. I also contacted the local junior school where my children attended and made a proposition if I could exhibit there. In return the headmaster asked my to come into the School twice a week and teach the children art, this featured in a local press article.

Over the years from 1992 to date I have held numerous small one man exhibitions in the Medway Towns and a little further afield and have manged to sell some (just enough to pay a few bills). In the last year or so I have been a little inactive in my art but hope to resolve that soon.

Teaching Experience:

16 years freelance one to one teaching of Guitar - Mandolin - Banjo - Ukulele - Harmonica and Basic Keyboard
Currently a Children s reading assistant for the Beanstalk Charity Project

Tutoring Approach:

Being a music teacher has at least allowed me to put my love of music to a measure of professional application, perhaps to make up for the lost opportunity and time. Being paid is a motivation, but far more importantly teaching others to play and create music is much more enjoyable, I have often gone overtime on my lessons and never charged extra. Also to be considered is the experience gained over many decades of musical struggling, mistakes, embarrassing moments during performance and how to overcome them that I can impart to my pupils. I also look forward to the pupil making sufficient progress so that I can have the pleasure to "Jam" with them.

My first degree from The University of Bristol nudged me in the direction of teaching. I worked for 6 years as a secondary school teacher, delivering Drama and English lessons, including GCSE and A level, from year 7- year 13. I offered extra-curricular tutorials to students to help them achieve their desired results. This included university entrance master classes.

During my tenure at the second school I worked at my lessons were recorded by Edexcel Examination Board as an exemplar of excellent practice.

As a teacher my services were sought by 'feeder' primary schools and I started leading workshops at primary level. While doing this I became aware of the need for more educational provision in non-formal settings. I eventually went part-time at schools, and began working with, and for, local councils to provide literacy workshops for young people who felt disenfranchised by traditional educational settings. My work with Redditch Borough Council as Outreach officer earned me an 'Outstanding personal Achievement Award'.

Since turning my attention to acting I have maintained strong links with my educational roots, I still work in schools, community centres, universities, as tutor, facilitator and lecturer. I will always think of myself as an educator, my most satisfying professional moments involve inspiring others, and these moments always occur when teaching and tutoring.

Tutoring Approach:

Student focused and forward thinking, the best learning happens when student and tutor share a mutually inspiring relationship.

I worked for 6 years as a secondary teacher, delivering English, English Literature and Drama from Year 7 up to Year 13, including GCSE and A Level. I am extremely experienced in coursework and exam preparation. As a teacher I received the best results for my students, and the best feedback for myself (including twice being given an 'outstanding' accolade by Ofsted.)

I still work extensively as an educator: as tutor, lecturer and workshop facilitator, both in formal and non-formal settings, teaching young people of all ages from primary to university level.

I have a personable and gentle teaching style, tempered by profound understanding of examination board requirements. Moreover, my many years working as an arts educator has entailed the need to develop a flexible range of teaching strategies correspondent to the varying learning preferences of my students. I have worked with hundreds of students, in a multitude of different settings.
