Personal Description:
Hi there,

My name is Jean-Charles. I am a 29-year-old French male. I have been living, studying and working in the UK for more than two years. I worked as a chef two years ago, as a French assistant last year and as a trainee-teacher this year when studying the PGCE French with Spanish. I am now a qualified teacher and I work in a comprehensive school near Reading.
Before coming to the UK, I studied philosophy and French language and literature at the Université de Strasbourg. I have a very good knowledge of French literature and grammar and it has been very helpful to my past tutees.

I am easy-going and I adapt myself easily. One of my favourite hobbies is speaking foreign languages and discovering new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

In Reading:
I have been teaching French in a comprehensive school to pupils aged from 11 to 18.

In Liverpool:
I have been tutoring a mature student to improve her speaking from January 2012.
As part of my PGCE, I taught French from Y7 to Y13 and Spanish up to Y9 from October 2011 to 2012.

In Grimsby:
As a French assistant, from November 2010 to May 2011, I helped primary and secondary students with their French on a one-to-one basis, in small groups and I also taught lessons to whole classes.

In Bolton:
I taught French language -grammar and literature- to a mature-student retired from teaching from October 2009 to March 2010. (testimonial available)

In Strasbourg:
I gave lessons in French to a 16-year-old girl in Strasbourg in the summer 2010.
I also helped two primary school pupils with their homework from 2007 to 2011.

Tutoring Approach:

As I strongly believe that languages and cultures come together, I always strive to work on authentic material and I also give my tutees many opportunities to learn in out of tution context in order to develop their cultural knowledge.

However, for me the most important in teaching is to meet the needs of learners. Therefore, my priority is first of all to assess the needs of my tutees. Tutees may want to develop only some of the 4 skills: speaking, listening, reading, or writing, depending on the use they want to make of French. They also may have particular topics they want to work on, functions of their needs, projects or tastes.

This student-led approach must be carried on throughout the lessons. The role of the tutor is to maximise opportunities for the learner to discover things by themselves because this is the most efficient and enjoyable way to learn.

Last but not least, languages are interesting and fun at the same time. They develop thinking skills as well as they provide entertainment. My tutoring reflects this philosophy. This is why I always try to alternate entertainment and thinking time during the lessons.

Personal Description:
Specialist in intensive Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology tuition, revision and exam preparation/technique.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught A-level full-time for 18 years and am an examiner for both subjects for a number of boards.

Many of my tutees have gone on to score 100% in units and after a comparatively short period of time improved their A-level score by several grades.

I also tutor undergraduates in Psychology and Anthropology, can advise on university choices and UCAS applications, provide university interview practice, and tutor prospective medic students for reasoning and written tasks for BMAT and UKCAT tests.

Testimonials from past and present students can be provided.

I hold a BSc in Anthropology from UCL and a PGCE from the Institute of Education, London.

Tutoring Approach:

As a specialist in exam-focused, intensive tuition, I provide tutees with clear, concise class notes and revision materials specifically aimed at ensuring they understand exactly what is required in answers, how to address exam board assessment criteria, how to structure essays, how to manage time in exams, and strategies and tactics to maximise success. Homework will be provided to tutees between sessions and marked as it would be by official examiners in live exams - thus, strengths and weaknesses can be addressed.

I am an engaging, approachable tutor who enjoys teaching and makes learning interesting, rewarding and enjoyable. However, I will make demands on tutees in line with their aspirations and be entirely honest with parents and tutees about progress.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Olivia. I have a first class degree in English from University College London (the best English department in the country) and a distinction-level masters in Literature from Birkbeck University. I went on to qualify in Law at City University. My degrees have given me experience of working at a high academic level, and I have adopted skills such as research, essay writing, essay formatting, effective revision and creative writing. I can show how simple it is to improve essays or homework by writing good introductions and conclusions, using literary critics and quotations, and analysing prose or poetry. UCL is the only university still providing one-on-one tuition, and after having had a personal tutor for three years as part of my degree, I can apply what they have taught me to my tutoring: looking at past essays to see how they can be improved, practising essay structure and enhancing the grammar and style of writing. Help with computer literacy such as writing in Word documents and blogging can also be provided.

I am also available to teach English as a foreign language, whether for school, exams or for personal improvement. Lessons could be planned and work on grammar and vocabulary or be structured to improve conversation, whatever is most needed. I have received pronunciation (a standard English accent) and can help to improve spoken English.

I can tutor up to degree level, and am happy to work with primary or secondary school pupils.

I can show a CRB check and references on request.

I can provide bumper revision sessions for new students up until exams. Please ask for more details.

Teaching Experience:

I have a range of experience teaching all age groups. I have been tutoring one-to-one for 3 years, teaching History and English language and literature. My students have found me committed and knowledgeable, and have often achieved their target grade or better. I have also helped students with university applications and personal statements. Last year, all of the students I assisted with their applications got the maximum of 5 university offers.

I have travealled to Cambodia to teach English language at a charity school in Phnom Penh, and my pupils there ranged from 4 years old to adults.

I have also worked four summers full-time in an English language school where I had full responsibility of children and teenagers. This year I was the director of the school's residential programme. As well as helping the students to improve their English, I coordinated their entire stay at the school. My employer praised me for often being chosen as 'best activity leader' on the students' feedback forms.

Last year I took part in an outreach programme at my university which involved teaching human rights and activism at a London sixth form college on behalf of Amnesty International. We had a series of lessons on different aspects of human rights abuse and campaigning which led up to a fundraiser raising money for Amnesty.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that a gradual build-up of confidence is integral to learning literacy skills. Learning skills on by one, such as editing or memorising, makes the tasks seem simple, yet leads up to a large and complex understanding of how to do well at English. Working at the student's own speed is important, in order that they grasp one aspect of writing before tackling another. My approach is to find the weak areas in a student's studying and work on these, without making any task seem too daunting. Exam technique and the knack of writing what an examiner is looking for are also main objectives.

I will help extensively with essays and coursework, providing comprehensive editing and advice. We can work together on your piece of work until it is of the highest standard possible.

Personal Description:
I've recently returned from New Zealand where I spent a year working in a prestigious secondary school. This year fueled my desire to teach. I've completed a BSc in Sport & Exercise Sciences and I'm currently studying part time at masters level. I will start a PGCE in September 2016 and become a PE teacher upon completion.

I want to tutor because it is a great way to gain experience whilst earning some money to pay my way through my studies. I'd also like to help those in a similar situation as I once was, I got little support from my PE teacher during A levels as he focused on the better performers rather than those looking to excel academically. I wasn't able to afford a tutor and got no other help, this led to me failing to achieve my target grade. I'd like to help people achieve their aims and not feel disappointed (and in my case anxious that I might not get into uni) like I did.

My particular area of expertise is the physiology of sport, I've always been fascinated with anatomy and the way the body works. I've gained a lot of experience working in schools and tutoring in recent years and, as such, feel confident in tutoring all areas of PE at GCSE and A level.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching in all tiers of the educational system. This ranges from coaching and PPA cover in primary schools to work and placements in secondary and SEN schools. I also have experience of providing sports science support to semi-professional and university athletes.

I have also gained a lot of one to one tutoring experience within schools and homes helping tutees, including some that had previously failed, to pass at both GCSE and A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't think you can describe my approach in one specific way. I think, like all teaching, tutors should adapt the way they teach dependant on the individuals learning style and needs. Therefore the only word I could use is flexible.

I've just finished a degree in Film and TV in one of the best Universities in Spain (University of Navarra). I've moved to the UK in July 2014 because I was offered to work as an intern in a modest production company in Marlow, in Buckinghamshire. Since October, I've been living in London studying english so I can pass the exam that will allow me to go to an english University next September.

Teaching Experience:

This would be the first time that I'll be teaching spanish to a kid. Although I've been working for the past month with a little girl. But I can assure that the kids will learn as my classes will not be about studying but about having fun with craft, making recipes, playing games and more.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a hard-working, trustworthy person that loves to play with kids. My teaching methods will be dynamic, practising essentially with the dialogue and not only with theory. The kids will be learning without even noticing. We'll play games, making recipes, etc.

Personal Description:
I hold a BSc (Hons) Mathematics, 1st class from the University of Manchester as well as an MA Music, Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music.

I grew up in Watford, studying at Watford Grammar School for Boys. I achieved 4 A Levels grade A including Maths and Further Maths, 1 AS Level grade A, and 11 GCSEs, 9 grade A* and 2 grade A.

I am a mathematics tutor and freelance classical musician (viola), with my work featuring performance with top UK orchestras, chamber music and outreach work as well as a teaching portfolio working with children and adults.

In my spare time, I enjoy astronomy, cycling and playing the euphonium with the Army Reserve Band of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.

Teaching Experience:

I have recently relocated to Liverpool and am looking to build up a tutoring profile here. In previous academic years I have had the following distribution of students:

2015-16: 7 A Level, 5 GCSE
2014-15: 3 A Level, 5 GCSE

All of my students have achieved over and above their expected grades.

In addition, I teach the violin and viola to children and adults, from beginner to diploma level. I should clarify that I don't teach academic music, rather am happy teaching instrumental music to the age groups listed. I am able to combine mathematics tuition and music teaching for individuals who would be interested.

Tutoring Approach:

For those studying A Level and GCSE Mathematics, it is very important to be able to identify areas which require work and bring these to the attention of a tutor; my approach to mathematics tutoring is a student lead approach. I also like to instigate discussions about general study and revision technique which can be transferred to other subjects as well. Given the appropriate contact time with me, students are always prepared for exams well in advance.

I offer an introductory session at no fee. This is for myself, the student and parent(s) to get to know each other, and also to discuss where the student would like help.

My music teaching approach is focused on general musicianship and encouraging the enjoyment of playing. I do work on grades with my students but prefer to allow them to develop to a point that I know they will be able to pass their exams easily. Many students who are taught with too much of a focus on grades give up and stop playing altogether, and this is the reason for my approach.
