Personal Description:
I'm a very approachable person who interacts well with students of all ages. Most would say that I have a positive outlook on life and always leave a positive impact on those I meet. I'm friendly, down to earth and honest. My philosophy is that studies don't have to be boring, and I always use my career as a teacher/tutor as testament to this.

I enjoy a variety of different things such as arts, culture and cuisine. My hobbies include drawing comic strips, magna, anime and playing electric bass. I am open minded and welcome students of any age, race, background and culture as an honour for me to teach.

Teaching Experience:

Over 7 years experience teaching and tutoring in and out of classrooms. I have taught both in the UK and abroad. I am one of the few teachers in London who is able to teach Mathematics, English Language, English Literature and the three respective Sciences to A* at GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different, and I feel it an insult to my students' integrity to tell them how to revise when first meeting them. Through my experience teaching, there is no right way to study, but there are a variety of 'better' ways to make the best grades for each person's potential.

Many students approach me frustrated that they often don't achieve the same calibre as their peers despite the hours they put in. Often it is due to the fact that they aren't their peers and a different approach to revision and homework is required. I believe in working smart before working hard.

We'll tailor a program as a team, and prioritise it factorising your: current ablities, time proximity, and scope of subjects you'd like to cover.

Personal Description:
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in Mathematical Statistics at University of Bristol. I have a PhD in Mathematical Statistics (UCL), an MSc in Statistics (Lancaster), an MSc in Mathematical Modelling (UCL) and a BA in Maths and Music (Royal Holloway). I also worked for a couple of years in in consulting, where I used statistical models to understand how much different factors influenced people's travel behaviour.

Teaching Experience:

I've taught workshops/tutorials in my university department to both undergraduates and postgraduates in Maths and Statistics, and I've tutored privately to undergraduates, A-level and International Baccalaureate students since 2009 (in total around 200 hours contact time).

Tutoring Approach:

I really enjoy applying Maths/Statistics to real problems and real world situations when possible, as well as trying to give a solid intuition for why a topic is important to learn and why it was developed in the first place. I think this approach works well when trying to get abstract mathematical concepts across to people. Learning and teaching these subjects takes patience, enthusiasm and perseverance. I've learned that (the hard way!) through studying them for many years, and I try to encourage students to keep trying, so they can get the best out of themselves. I also like to work on exam technique, and having gone through 5 years of university finals I feel like I have a good idea of how to approach them in a good way (when to work hard and when to rest).

Personal Description:
Having been born in London I am a native speaker of the English language. I have vast experience with speakers of other languages. I recently decided to make a career change and make teaching English to speakers of other language a professional career. I am CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualified. I am also two years into BA (hons) English Language and Literature degree and intend to continue my own personal development by studying for an MA English Language Teaching and Linguistics and by completing the DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) as soon as I am eligible.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught to classes of between six and eighteen students whilst training for the CELTA qualification. The students came from a variety of countries including: France, Italy, Turkey, South Korea, Spain, Chile, Colombia, Russia and Poland. I have taught many more personal one-to-one lessons, mainly within the South American community.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a number of different course books for teaching English and try to make the whole experience as relaxed, fun and interactive as possible. This is easier with larger numbers but can be achieved on a one-to-one basis with a little thought and effort. I use audio and visual materials. Each student will have a preferred method of learning and as individuals we are not usually aware of what type of learner we are, for this reason I employ a number of techniques to make the learning experience as beneficial as possible. The techniques I use are: linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinaesthetic, musical, inter-personal and intra-personal.

Personal Description:
I'm a friendly, qualified teacher, currently working in a London secondary school teaching RS, Philosophy and English. I studied Theology and Religious Studies at Cambridge (First) and I initially moved to London to do an MA in International Politics and Human Rights at City University. I caught the London bug so I'm still here! I really enjoy the opportunity it offers to teach students from a whole range of backgrounds and abilities. I have always loved learning, and I love helping children develop their understanding of the world through their chosen subjects, so I find tutoring really rewarding.

I am both professional and personable, and have always had good relationships with my tutees and their parents.

Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of experience with children through nannying and youth camps I've helped on over the past 10 years, and also have experience tutoring 1-1 in London on a weekly basis. I did my teacher training in Tower Hamlets 2 years ago, and have been working as a teacher since. I achieved 'Outstanding' or 'Good' standards in all lessons that were observed during my training.

I am passionate about the importance of education, for building both competence and confidence into children and young adults.

The Cambridge supervision system showed me how beneficial individual tutoring can be. I had two 1-1 sessions every week with my subject supervisors, which taught me first hand how to inspire, challenge and build confidence in the tutor-tutee relationship.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to have a preliminary discussion (usually by phone, but in person is also fine) with the student's parent(s) to find out about the student's level of understanding, capability and confidence, as well as their main goals and any relevant exam board they are attached to. I will tailor my approach on this basis, as well as through meeting the student and talking about what s/he finds interesting and how s/he learns best.

The method of teaching will vary between pupils as well as between subjects, most markedly between languages and sciences. However, common methods used will be explaining and clarifying any 'sticking points', going through set questions and reviewing the answers, and using creative means to bring the subject to life for the student. I strongly believe that when a student enjoys the learning process and achieves set goals, however small, his/her learning is much faster and memory is greatly improved.

Personal Description:
I'm a humanitarian worker with a keen interest in languages, history, politics, and philosophy.

Postgraduate studies:
MSc, 2:1 in Political Theory from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2015). A political philosophy course in the analytic tradition including modules on liberalism, egalitarianism, feminist theory, and two outside modules on conflict and humanitarianism.

Undergraduate studies:
BA(Hons), 2:1 in Middle Eastern Studies and Arabic from Cambridge University (2010). Included modules in history, politics, literature, and religious studies, as well as Arabic language. I spent the third year of my studies living in Damascus, Syria, and speak the Syrian dialect, as well as having a solid grounding in Modern Standard grammar. Since graduating I have worked in Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, and Israel.

A-levels:
My A-levels were in English Literature, Philosophy & Ethics, French, and History (AAAB), and I also took an AS-level in Spanish (A). I have lived in France and Spain and speak both French and Spanish to a high level of fluency. I was also raised bilingual with English and Italian.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to tutoring family friends in Italy over the summer holidays (in English), I've exchanged English and Spanish lessons for Arabic lessons. I also taught English to two groups of 20+ Arab teenagers at a high school in Israel from September - December 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in cultivating a vigorous work ethic in students, which is best done through close supervision and encouragement. The work covered will involve both the curriculum required by the student's course as well as helpful extras tailored to the student's abilities and personality. I will provide these extras to increase the student's understanding of the subject and help him/or her reach a standard of excellence that will be noticed by teachers and examiners alike.

I find the most common problem students have is not with the subject itself, but with the teacher or the insufficient attention they get in the classroom. A stress-free but diligent approach will allow us to build trust, which will give the student renewed confidence in his or her abilities. Students who push themselves with me will be rewarded for their hard work by realising that the subject they once dreaded is actually really enjoyable when approached from a new angle.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old who is currently working at RWS translations group in Chalfont St Peter. I have recently graduated from Durham University with a 2.1 BA in Modern Languages (French and Italian). I also studied Spanish up to 2nd year. I enjoy speaking different languages and try to pass on my enthusiasm for languages to others.

Teaching Experience:

My third year at University was spent abroad. I chose to teach in France for 7 months in two primary schools which I very much enjoyed. I loved to chat to the children and try to get them to see the importance of learning English. I also au-paired for three months in Italy during my Year Abroad, which involved private lessons with a 7 year old. I have also previously tutored French, which included exam preparation, focusing on problematic areas and improving confidence. I understand how difficult languages can be, I believe I can sympathise with the student. The lesson must be fun and the student needs to understand the importance of learning a language, in order to be enthusiastic about it.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe languages are crucial in education. Throughout university I took part in Routes into Languages, a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages. This role involved planning taster classes for small groups, introducing a new language into their education and broadening their knowledge of the world and different cultures. I particularly enjoyed this role as I was enable to communicate the importance of languages and perhaps inspire some of the children to carry languages on past year 9.

Personal Description:
I am a young, female primary school teacher in the Doncaster/Wakefield area. Aside from my enthusiasm for teaching and helping children to achieve, I am interested in academic areas including sociology and languages. I enjoy travel and reading. I have worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant and completed a degree in Sociology before training to be a teacher. I now work as a supply teacher at primary level and as a personal tutor to primary and secondary level children. I hold an enhanced DBS check dated September 2015.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups in academic tasks and find that children are very responsive to this lower teacher-pupil ratio. I have found that working in these situations really helps to boost children's concentration and confidence in their work. They also feel more comfortable to ask questions in areas they find difficult. When tutoring, I am to create a positive, friendly and professional relationship where children feel comfortable with what they are learning, but also feel they can ask for help when required.

Tutoring Approach:

I recognise that children learn in many different ways - some by seeing and visualising, some by talking and discussing, and some by doing a physical or mental activity. I aim to tutor children using the learning style that best suits them. In a classroom, it is often difficult to meet the needs of every child. Personal tuition provides children with valuable one-to-one time, where the focus is on them and them alone. I believe that personal tuition does much to increase achievement in those weaker areas, but also serves to challenge and develop knowledge in stronger areas. Following a free initial consultation, I provide personalised programmes of study tailored exactly to meet the needs of the child involved. I am passionate about helping children to reach their full potential and will do all I can to make this happen. Sessions take place in the child's own home and are arranged on a flexible basis with parent or guardian. I can provide tuition from 30 minutes per week to more intensive programmes consisting of several hours per week in the school holidays.

I currently have slots available on weekday evenings and am available most Saturday mornings and early afternoon. I am not available on Sundays.

Personal Description:
In October 2014 I graduated from Imperial College London, where I spent 4 years studying for my Masters Degree in MSci Mathematics. I have a big passion for learning and this is a trait I want to be able to pass on to other children. Currently, I am working as an Analytic Consultant in Birmingham, which helps to demonstrate the strong analytical and communication skills that I possess.

Teaching Experience:

During Secondary School I ran a Maths Club once a week where I set problems and puzzles for all students. Furthermore, I was a Chess Coach teaching chess to primary school children and in Imperial College I held sessions with 1st Year students aiding their transition between school and university.

Thus, I have had experience teaching a wide range of ages and abilities, which will help me to adapt my approach based on the student.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I aim to pass on my passion for Mathematics onto my students, developing their understanding and appreciation for the subject. In my opinion this is the best way to learn as ideas become easier to remember and concepts become quicker to grasp, which will transpose into better grades and examination performances.

Overall, I bring an enthusiastic and approachable atmosphere to my sessions, where students are not afraid to ask questions. This will enhance their learning experience and again improve exam results.

Personal Description:
Born in Edinburgh, I was raised in India and then Africa, before returning to the UK. Having lived in London and South East England since then, our family moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2012, primarily to raise our children in a less chaotic and more natural environment. We've had no regrets at all...and our various dogs and cats are similarly happy with the move!

I have always been passionate about English, from the weekly spelling tests and grammar exercises of primary school to the privilege of being taught at A Level by Tolkien's grandson. His vibrant, interactive approach shaped my ongoing learning and fired my imagination. After leaving Edinburgh University with a Masters in English Language and Literature, I went on to take a TEFL qualification and used this when travelling abroad in Turkey and throughout the Caribbean. I am delighted that I continue to work in the area of EAL with overseas students in British schools, and that technology has allowed me to work with individuals in their home countries, via Skype.

My love of English directed my career, working first at the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming an independent theatre producer in London, and a theatre advertising executive on accounts such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Les Miserables'.

In 2008, my partner and I began the home education of our two children at primary stage. It was both challenging and inspirational and the experiences and knowledge I gained during those years - not purely academic, but also the different ways and methods of learning, the different developmental stages of children, the different learning styles of children - continue to inform my present day tutoring.

While home educating, and with my love of theatre, I founded an educational theatre group, Active Arts, with Margo Gunn, a teacher and director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. We worked with a wide age range of home educated and mainstream school children, providing workshops on various Shakespeare plays including 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Tempest' and 'Romeo & Juliet'. Workshops were also designed specifically in support of GCSE/IGCSE work. As passionate advocates of Shakespeare, our approach was active and energetic, lifting Shakespeare off the page and introducing his plays, his language and his theatricality in an engaging and tangible manner. I was thrilled to be able to resurrect this work in the Highlands, initially at a local primary school, conducting 4 workshops for Primary 4-Primary 7, resulting in workshop presentations of 'The Tempest' and 'Macbeth'.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to home educating my two children and running Active Arts, my personal and professional lives led me into private tutoring and I have been a private tutor in English Language and Literature since 2009, working alongside children and young people from age 5 upwards, whether on general literacy issues, EAL or focusing specifically on exam work, from SATS, Nationals and GCSEs, through to A Levels, Highers and beyond. Tutees have been those in mainstream state schools, leading UK private schools and home education, following the English and Scottish curriculums, as well as IGCSEs with providers including Cambridge, OOL and Edexcel.

A number of my tutees have challenges such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette's and dyslexia, and the combination of experience, research and support courses have built my knowledge and understanding in these areas.

While I am registered with tutoring agencies, many of my tutees come via personal recommendation and I was delighted that tutees I had worked with in England chose to continue working with me via Skype after our move to Scotland.

Critically, I am PVG checked, and would be happy to provide evidence of this, together with references and qualification documentation.

Tutoring Approach:

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
My approach is not one of 'dip in and out' for an hour, or 'one size fits all', but of creating a relaxed, enjoyable, constructive atmosphere and building a relationship within which the young person's potential can be maximised, against a tailored, individual approach. While texts and challenges might be shared by various tutees, learning styles, atmospheres for learning, methods for learning, will always be different.
As importantly, my approach places great value on the parents, their involvement and their right and need for clear, ongoing and comprehensive communication. As such, I am often in regular contact with both my tutees and their parents, should they require it, outside of tutorials.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited."
Plutarch

If you're looking for a desk-based tutor, one who does all the talking and expects your child to just sit and listen, I am not the right person for you.

If you're looking for someone to ignite a love of English, to build confidence, to be energetic, to make learning enjoyable, active, off the page, accessible, then, here I am!

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
For many young people with whom I work, English and everything to do with it - their texts, their homework, punctuation, close reading, writing an essay - is a minefield. Often, what holds them back is a mixture of low confidence, fear of getting it wrong, and simply not having grasped the 'map' of how to 'do it'.

One of my main motivations, is to make English accessible; to take away the fear factor, to provide clear and simple structures, to grasp some key exam techniques, to demystify the exam paper, to clarify what the heck the exam paper is testing them on; to remind tutees that they have, naturally, learned one of the most difficult languages in the world and are fully capable of expressing themselves on paper, under pressure and against time.

However whimsical it may sound, as with many things in life, self-belief and understanding are powerful tools for success.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
The demand for private tutoring is growing exponentially. As The Telegraph reported in 2012, "more than a quarter of parents use private tutoring to supplement their children's education", spending "6bn a year in the UK." A double page spread in Femail, February 2015, states research that almost 1 in 4 children are now privately tutored, with pupils at private schools almost twice as likely to have private tutoring than those from state schools. Whatever explanation there is for this rise, cost to parents remains an obvious barrier to its provision.

I am, of course, a 'business', but I also firmly believe that access to tutoring should be made as wide as possible; education is a right and not a privilege. As such, while I have a standard rate for 1-1 tutoring, I am also very happy to discuss your requirements with you and to look at options available, such as small group tutoring where the cost per head can be significantly reduced.

Please do take the opportunity of discussing your requirements with me, rather than potentially losing the opportunity of providing tutorial support for your child.

I've taught ESOL in a variety of settings including Spain, Ukraine, Myanmar and England- in private institutions, government agencies and the state education system. I can also speak the languages of the countries I have lived in (to varying degrees) so I understand what it is like to be a language learner. This is also perfect for the current demand of grammar knowledge required by the National Curriculum; as a grammarian I certainly know my stuff!

I also tutor reluctant readers and those that either need extra support outside school or extra stimulation.

I'm currently studying for a postgraduate qualification in Linguistics and have recently written thematic courses for the British Council for teenagers based on famous authors.

I am also able to tutor for IELTS, which is the examination required by many institutions for further and higher education for students who don't have English as a first language.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, it is important that you enjoy the classes and that you are inspired and motivated to take your learning outside the classroom and apply it to your daily lives. I will give you language that is useful to you and skills to make your language learning more effective.

I tailor the classes to engage and challenge you- based on how you learn, what your level is and what your language goals are. We will use a variety of real materials as well as books to help you learn different aspects of language.

I understand that some of you may not be able to afford the price that I charge. It is possible to arrange something, for example, joining with another student to make the classes more affordable for you. Bear in mind though, that the hourly price is per contact hour, it doesn't take into account all the other learning you will do outside the classroom with tasks that I set you, so you can ask for as little or as much study for yourself as you want.

Hope to see you soon!

I can set you as much homework as you want. If you don't have time to do any, you don't have to, this is your class, or I can set you mini- tasks that you can complete as you go about your daily life.

Practice makes perfect!

Personal Description:
I am currently a student at the University of Sheffield studying Physics with Medical Physics. I have 11 GCSE's with 2 A*'s and 9 A's, the A*'s being in Maths and Further Maths. I have also achieved 5 AS Levels in Physics, Maths, Biology, Chemistry and General Studies with grades AABCC respectively and full A Levels in Physics, Maths and Biology with grades AAB respectively.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many students within my school in a variety of subjects from maths to all three sciences, from years 7-11, including many GCSE students. I also have experience with younger children due to my sports leaders award which I achieved in year 12.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way to learn in maths is to keep doing practice questions. It is also very important in learning that you are able to explain what you have learnt to someone else, therefore my opinion is that if someone can explain what they have learnt to me, they have understood it fully.
