Personal Description:
The opportunity to teach both my Technical craft and Autocad has arisen more by accident than design for most of my Professional career. I am led to believe that I have a natural ability in engaging interest, particularly in younger people through a combination of both my communication skills and technical ability. This produces immediate rewards in contrast to the often lengthy process of Project work which can easily dilute job satisfaction.
I believe a fundamental part of Teaching is the ability to speak the language of the pupil - more esoteric now than ever before. Understanding and respecting their language and culture enhances the learning process and contributes to mutual satisfaction and success.

Teaching Experience:

In the 1970's and 80's my employers ; Bain, Swan Architects had a healthy Apprenticeship policy. Throughout this period, they recruited locally in conjunction with colleges in Galashiels and Ashington. I was asked if I would consider mentoring the Office's Apprentice Technicians due to my apparent communication skills and technical ability. I enjoyed this auxiliary role, particularly, as it frequently engaged me in improving my own technical education to answer their endless questions. The tuition procedure had the additional benefit of enhancing the Practice's hand-drawn presentation work through educating the apprentices in the provision of accurate, informative and harmonious drawings. This was a flair which I had developed over the years in pre-computer times and employ to this day whenever possible, despite the icy perfections of Autocad.

Working in London in the late 1990's I was invited to teach many aspects of my craft in to JJA Academy pupils in night classes.These were generally foreign students to whom I provided additional Autocad tuition, hand drafting techniques and Installation construction. I discovered that the judicious use of sketches and diagrams easily demolished any language barriers. Encouraged by the senior lecturers my confidence developed in this supplementary role.
With Wintersgill Faulkner in 1999 I was invited to create and teach a dedicated layering system in Autocad to improve the Practice's presentation output. The younger members of staff had a fairly haphazard approach to defining different materials which made their work difficult to read both on-screen and on the plotted drawings - even if it was generally correct.The principle I employed was based upon the old British Standard conventions for : colouring drawings, hatching and line density. It is rewarding to know that the same CTB file is still their standard office practice 10 years later.
By word of mouth I have taught basic 2D Autocad to several private pupils during the last 10 year period, one of whom currently has a Technical practice in Bury St. Edmunds

Teaching Experience:

I have recently worked as a Maths and English tutor with Explore learning. I taught Maths and English to children aged 4 - 14 of various abilities. I received training in the National Curriculum as well as current tutoring methods. I have a particular strength in preparing students for 11+ exams.

In Bristol I assisted on and led various Drama workshops including; introduction to Shakespeare, confidence building and audition technique.

I am friendly and enthusiastic with a proven record of working well with children. Having a doctorate in Applied Mathematics and after teaching at university level for 14 years (still counting), my passion towards mathematics encouraged me to motivate much younger students in schools towards this extra-ordinary subject of Mathematics. Since graduating I spent a year working at a Blackpool Primary School, assisting with teaching and after school club activities. I have lots of experience working with children age 4-11 years old. I spent 12 months between noc 2013-dec 2014 in Australia working for a private medical practice which was the second largest in Australia. During my time in Australia i tutored my younger family members throughout there final years at high school. I tutored Maths, Biology and English but have a vast knowledge of P.E and sports science in particular nutritional science.

I worked for a year at a Blackpool Primary school where i enhanced dramatically my knowledge and skills working with young children. I am an extremely patient and understanding young individual. I was called over by the government of India in 1996, after graduating from Central Saint Martins, as troubleshooter for their new Art/Fashion College to encountering 'teething issues'. Then worked at Auckland Insitute of Technology , Art& Fadhion dept. Did my Masters in 2000, worked in New Forest with A level Art & Fadhion ( highest grades they had ever had) introduced foundation, 7 out of 10 students awarded Distictions in first year. Head hunted by Shoreditch Fashion department in 2004. Left in 2012. Wrote up my own curriculum and have set up my own summer school in Beijing.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about languages and I love every aspect about the process of language learning and teaching. Growing up I was always surrounded by books. My parents' personal library was incredibly diverse and spanned many genres of fiction and factual works, while also including classics of European and World literature. Exposure to such a wide variety of authors instilled in me a fascination with communication cross-culturally - which played a great role in my decision to enrol in a language degree. Since then, the training and experience that I have gained at different universities, in both the UK and abroad, have helped me develop a range of teaching methods meeting the needs of different learners. I firmly believe that teaching allows you to impart knowledge to others while also enabling you to grow as a person yourself.

Teaching Experience:

I am a native Italian speaker and a qualified teacher of Italian with more than 7 years of experience in teaching on both undergraduate courses at university level and evening classes for adults. I am currently running a number of classes on Italian language and literature at the University of Leicester, besides teaching for the university Adult Programme 'Languages at Leicester'. In 2013 I was awarded the prestigious American teaching scholarship, the Fulbright Assistantship, to teach at Wheaton College Massachusetts (U.S.) during the academic year 2013/2014. I am currently completing a PhD in Italian Studies at the University of Leicester and I hold a Masters in 'Teaching Italian as a Second Language' from Milan's Catholic University. Prior to moving to Leicester, in 2010-2011 I worked at the University of Kent, where I completed my teaching training as requirement of my Masters. I like to keep up-to-date with the latest trends in language teaching and I attend language conferences, either as a speaker or as audience, on a regular basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I always try to combine traditional methods with more innovative approaches, tending to regard the textbook as a tool to be integrated with fresh, lively and more personalised material, using visual stimuli (commercials and videos for example) as a way of enhancing this experience. I believe that these methods play a vital role in instilling practical communicative language skills that students can then reproduce in a creative and spontaneous way. I tend to follow a Communicative Approach, where the stress is on oral communication, while interactive student-centred learning is encouraged. Based on the acknowledgement that all communication has a social purpose, this approach focuses on language as a medium of communication. The aim is to guide students towards the acquisition of a notional/functional syllabus, inclusive of both notions (meanings and concepts to communicate) and the language needed to do so. The learning environment has to be a positive one, and with my tutees I always make sure that they regard me as somebody they can trust. My students have always responded positively to my teaching, which is reflected in the Award in Excellence in Service I received from the Department of Hispanic and Italian Studies at Wheaton College (U.S.) in 2014.
