| Personal Description: I am a graduate from the University of Warwick and hold both an MA and a BA (Hons) in English Literature. I am offering private lessons to anyone who wishes to receive additional support with their English studies. I have experience of providing individual tuition and I am familiar with a wide range of texts and authors, as well as the technical demands of essay writing. I have also studied Creative Writing at a high level and can offer guidance with this area. My experience has made me aware of the difficulties that students face when trying to succeed at this subject and I am keen to help students overcome these problems and realise the fulfilment that reading great literature can bring. I offer lessons at my own home in Lordswood and I am also willing to travel to teach in homes within a maximum of 5 miles. Please note that there will be an additional charge for these lessons in order to cover my travelling expenses. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently providing tuition to students at A Level and GCSE, working with them on areas such as essay writing and reading comprehension. I am also working with pupils at primary level. In particular I have experience of working with students who struggle with reading and writing and helping them find ways to overcome their difficulties. I work at Chatham Dockyard as an Education Assistant, where I help to deliver learning sessions to schools. I have also spent time in local secondary schools where I have provided English lessons at KS3 and GCSE level. Furthermore I have experience of working as a primary classroom assistant and at university I helped to organise creative writing workshops for local primary school children. Over the last few years I have gained a great deal of tutoring experience in many different contexts. For example I proof-read work for university students and I also tutored my younger brother through his English GCSEs. |
Tutoring Approach: As a young tutor I can connect with students on their own level, being able to remember myself what the demands of coursework and examinations were like. I aim to provide lessons that are stimulating and tailored towards the individual concerns and needs of each student. As someone who is deeply passionate about their area of expertise I am eager to pass on this enthusiasm to my students. I regard English as a subject that helps to develop vital skills that students will need at university and in the workplace, but also as a subject that can offer a great opportunity for personal development. I encourage students to bring their own experiences to bear upon their work and make the subject their own. I am of course concerned with encouraging learners to perform in examinations at the highest level possible, but in my experience this cannot happen unless the student is sufficiently motivated and inspired by what they read. |

| Personal Description: I am currently undertaking a funded MA in English Literature. English (and therefore reading and writing) is my primary discipline. I graduated last year with a First Class degree in English Literature. My ultimate objective is to teach and research at university level. I am a keen individual who values learning and particularly learning about the Arts and Humanities. I believe education is not simply a means to an end, but rather, education offers exciting and new ways of thinking about ourselves and the world around us. While my background may be English I have an extensive knowledge of history and philosophy having previously tutored both of these subjects up to 'A' level. One core skill that I have found is my tutoring encourages is abstract thought. This is a useful skill both in and out of the class/seminar room. |
Teaching Experience: For my age, my teaching experience is fairly extensive. I have taught both in this country and abroad. I am most used to individual tutoring assignments however; I recently lead a group course on "British Culture". This course was essentially a history of ideas in this country from the Roman invasion to the present. I have some experience of leading university seminars and am currently tutoring grammar for mature students before they start undergraduate study. At the other end of the spectrum, as an undergraduate I worked as a teaching assistant in a state primary and secondary school. |
Tutoring Approach: As I have mentioned, I do not view education as simply a means to an end. However, I realise that, at Key Stage 1,2, and 3 the emphasis needs to be on passing exams. At this level I aim to provide an entertaining and relaxed session which remains focused on providing and reinforcing the information required to pass an exam. I hesitate to say that my style is informal. I do believe that when instructing younger children a certain amount of structure is required. This does not mean that the session needs be myopic. Rather, that we focus on a structured approach to attaining goals in an interesting and fulfilling way. At the higher levels (or mature students) my approach is more relaxed: adults require less structure. This more laid-back technique is strong preparation for university study. |

| Personal Description: Hi there! About me.... | Personal Description: I am form India and have recently completed my Masters in Software Engineering from the University Of Manchester. Previously I was working full time in my father's business for four years.I had joined the business soon after my graduation which was also in Computer Science. I am a hard working and fast learned with keen interest in understanding problem of other people. I believe teaching is a way of learning and understanding why some people face problems where others are quite comfortable. |
Teaching Experience: I do not have a for formal teaching experience. I have previously tutored my cousins in their academic studies and have helped them whenever they needed it. Besides that I have also given free classes to some of the students in Masters who were facing difficulty in understanding the subject. |
Tutoring Approach: I think that teaching is an art where the teacher has to look at a problem not form his eyes but from the eyes os a student who is facing the problem. He has to then explain the things to the pupil in such a way that it is just enough for to clear the concepts of the student. All students have different level of understanding. While as some can process a lot of information others just need to be told just enough to clear the doubts. A challenge of teaching is understanding the requirements of individual students. |

| Personal Description: I am a 24-year-old female living in the centre of Brighton. I teach practical music and music theory from my flat, specialising in Guitar. I qualified with distinction in an HND in Modern Music (Guitar) in 2006, after studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music. My hourly tuition rate is 25, but I am happy to give a free lesson with block bookings (more than ten lessons). I own a spare electric guitar (Fender Stratocaster) for students to use who either do not want to bring their own instrument to lessons, or else do not have their own. I also have clear Enhanced Disclosure from the CRB. |
Teaching Experience: I have teaching experience in secondary schools, but I prefer to tutor privately because the one-to-one element of this way of teaching enables me to offer the student a personalised service that is tailored to best suit his or her needs. I have taught a variety of levels, ranging from children as young as seven and complete beginners, up to adults and quite experienced players. Some students wanted to learn just practical (how to play), some students wanted to incorporate theory and sight-reading into learning to play. I have not yet tutored anyone who wanted to be taught a specific syllabus (Grades or curriculum etc.) but I would be happy to consider this if it was desired. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is simple: if you want to learn an instrument, you will. My only proviso for taking students on is that they are passionate about and committed to learning. I will make an initial assessment of what ability level a student is at, but I operate a 'back to basics' approach with respect to technique and practice routines. I believe that you cannot unlock all of your potential as a musician unless the foundations of your playing are solid, therefore I focus closely on correcting bad habits and encouraging the student to re-learn tachniques and skills that are employed inefficiantly or incorrectly. As a tutor, I am patient and creative, I think that music is joyful and it should be as fun to learn as it is to create. With very young students, I often use colour diagrams, and get the child to interreact with these as part of the lesson. Hands-on learning is more effective, in my opinion, than just bombarding a student with information, and I like my lessons to be fun as well focused. |

| Personal Description: I am a retired teacher with many years experience at all levels of primary school. In addition to teaching all traditional areas of the curriculum I also taught German for nine years to P4 and P5, French for six years to P6 and P7 and Spanish for three years to P1 - P4. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught all primary stages in a wide range of schools in many different social environments. I also taught in secondary school for a time and have tutored adult learners. I have a science degree and am qualified to teach modern languages in primary school. |
Tutoring Approach: Each child deserves to be treated as an individual and to have teaching which is tailored to his or her needs. I believe that I have a friendly, relaxed approach and my aim is to put a child at ease. Every child has abilities and qualities which should be allowed to develop. |

| Personal Description: My name is Ciaran Gibson and I am a student of Japanese and German at the University of Sheffield. I am originally from Belfast, and spend my time there at Christmas, Easter and during the summer vacation. I am very enthusiastic about languages and linguistic development. I have studied German and French coming on 9 years and Japanese for 4 years. I have experience also with Spanish, Chinese Mandarin, Italian, Dutch, Russian and Korean. I plan to become a translator or interpreter once I have finished my current degree and a post-graduate program. |
Teaching Experience: Formally, I have no teaching experience. I have never been in a classroom situation, however I have often tutored friends and fellow students who did not seem to grasp what we were doing in class. I feel that I grasp new grammar points quickly and am able to explain them from several approaches so that a student may understand the language and how it functions. There are some fellow students who I have persistently helped and I feel that I have helped them through exams to achieve their goals in getting closer to attaining their degree. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach would be to introduce basic grammar and build upon that, introducing useful vocabulary and phrases along the way. With GCSE and A-Level tutoring, I would mostly be going over what has been taught in class and explaining any points the tutee may feel uncomfortable with. With those not-so-strong areas, I would encourage the tutee to practice them, all the while not ignoring the other areas of the language. |

| Personal Description: I am a 29 years old native French speaker who has been living in the UK for 10 years. I have got a degree in Foreign Languages and European Studies (International Trade) and I currently work in banking. |
Teaching Experience: I have got very good experience with children. I have been helping friends and family with their English and French for several years, and the results have always been very good. I have been a private tutor for the past couple of years, teaching adults French as well as helping students and adults improve their French by having informal conversation sessions. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very approachable, flexible and happy to go at the pace you choose. French is my mother tongue so I can guarantee that you will pick up a very good French accent, and that my teaching will be the best that could possibly be provided. I have had to learn English myself so I know the difficulties people may encounter when trying to learn a foreign language and I always try to find the best ways to overcome them. Being fluent in English also enables me to understand the mistakes a native English speaker may make when learning to speak French as I understand how the 'English mind' works, and this makes it easy for me to help you learn. I can teach at all levels, from primary school to business, or I can provide informal conversation sessions if you just need to practice your French. |
