Personal Description:
I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.
My interests in art and design are many and varied, and include, in no particular order, sculpture/ceramics (Moore, Gormley, Perry), photography (Cartier-Bresson and LaChapelle), graphic design (Brody, Bauhaus), and painting (Freud, Klimt, Giotto, Picasso).

Teaching Experience:

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. Subsequently, I trained as a secondary school teacher and quickly became head of my first department in a boys grammar school. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Tutoring Approach:

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. Allied to developing the imaginative and creative abilities is the need to create opportunities to build on existing technical skills and introduce new ones. The combination should be fun.

Personal Description:
I am a 22-year-old Cambridge music graduate and violinist based in Surrey. I am starting a Masters in Performance at the Royal College of Music in September 2015. I can teach violin, theory, GCSE Music and A Level Music. Furthermore I can help students write their personal statements and prepare for Oxbridge interviews.

Teaching Experience:

I have a great deal of experience in violin performance. During sixth form I was a member of the National Youth Chamber Orchestra and the Royal College of Music Junior Department. In my final year at Cranleigh School I performed Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 with the Merriman Concert Orchestra.

At Cambridge I regularly performed in solo recitals at my college. I also played in the Cambridge University Music Society Symphony Orchestra at venues including King's College Chapel, St John's Smith Square and West Road Concert Hall.

Tutoring Approach:

I work closely with my students to help them improve their technique and musical understanding. Above all, I ensure that learning an instrument remains a positive and enjoyable experience.

I am available evenings, most weekends and during the holidays. I can provide assistance to students with existing teachers who require extra attention.

Personal Description:
I am currently a second year Undergraduate student at the University of Birmingham studying Medicine. As an ex student at Queen Elizabeth's School for Boys I have an enthusiasm for learning which stems from my deep desire to achieve success. I have a fondness for teaching and have so for long periods of time. As well as teaching I enjoy to play football and I also thoroughly enjoy travelling.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught numerous students at QE boys and have aided them throughout with GCSE English and GCSE/A-Level Sciences also. This has involved me coordinating lesson plans and detailed presentations for classes of up to 12 pupils. Having been through the stress of exams, I have also held numerous study groups and sessions in order to aid pupils further. I have also taught Year 7 and Year 9 pupils on a one-to-one basis in a range of subjects. I have also tutored IGCSE Chemistry student on a one-to-one basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that the best way to tutor is to understand the pupil and their best methods of learning, rather than enforcing my ways upon them. After having been through the entire secondary school process myself I feel that it is important to engage with students and interact with them, providing them with new and refreshing ways to analyse, comprehend and apply the knowledge with which they are taught.

It is important that a student is able to relate to their tutor and feels at ease to ask questions to quash any qualms they may have and I feel the best way to do that is to provide an environment which is comfortable and encouraging. With extensive knowledge of a variety of exam boards, I will seek to dissect the relevant specifications for the subjects and relay them in a way which I feel the student will best understand.

Tutoring and learning is not meant to be a daunting process and the best teachers in my experience are those who you are able to talk to openly whilst making you think in order to get the best out of you.

Personal Description:
Graduate medical student and professional biology, mathematics, UKCAT and medical admissions tutor with 9+ years tutoring experience.

I have a first class BSc (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh in Developmental and Cell Biology, and I have worked teaching science and tutoring individuals since I was an undergraduate student. I have experience tutoring individuals aged 14 to 30 of all levels and abilities in both group and 1-to-1 settings, and I cover material ranging from National 3-5/GCSE level up to undergraduate senior honours. I am fully up-to-date on the SQA Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), and have experience tutoring CfE biology, human biology and mathematics at all levels, and chemistry and physics to National 5/GCSE.

In addition to these traditional tutoring services, I also run UKCAT tutoring over the summer months (June - August) for prospective UK medical and dental students. As a graduate medical student myself, I know the unique and daunting challenge these entrance exams pose to prospective medical and dental students of all ages and abilities, however from personal experience I know that they can be overcome through structured study and practice just like any other exam. I re-sit the UKCAT myself every year in order to keep up to date with changes and trends, most recently scoring an average of 815 in July 2016. As of April 2017 I have tutored 23 students through the UKCAT and medical or dental admissions process, and of those 100% gained at least 1 interview for medicine or dentistry and 96% were able to secure an offer. I also offer ongoing support for prospective medical and dental students throughout the application process if desired, including advice on entry, interview preparation and personal statement guidance and support at no extra cost.

Teaching Experience:

9 years' experience working as a biology and human biology tutor for the SQA curriculum from National 5s to Advanced Highers
4 years' experience working as a UKCAT tutor. Most recent UKCAT score = 815 (sat in July 2016)
4 years' experience working as a Science Communicator for the Edinburgh International Science Festival
3 years' experience working as a University Academic Support Worker at the University of Edinburgh
2 summer's spent working as a science and first-aid teacher at summer camps in the USA

I have a number of additional references and email addresses of past tutee's that are available on request, and an up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure Scotland as required for both my work as a tutor and my studies in medical school.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that the key to a successful tutoring relationship is mutual respect and trust - trust in the tutor that they are both knowledgeable about the subject and confident in their ability to educate, and trust in the tutee that they work diligently and to the best of their ability. I see the role of a tutor as not just that of an educator, but also as a facilitator of self-directed learning, ensuring that material is covered thoroughly, methodically and repeatedly over the course of the year. By tailoring my sessions to individual learning styles and remaining flexible, I hope to constantly challenge and push my tutee's throughout our time together so that come crunch time they feel calm, confident and prepared for their exams.

Personal Description:
I have over 15 years experience working in the science field as a researcher, teacher and exam marker. I am passionate about my subject and enjoy passing on this enthusiasm and drive to the students I teach. I have spent 11 years in academia and published my work (two papers submitted 2016). I have ongoing links with local universities and can offer advice and help to prepare students for university. I can offer support and guidance with students UCAS applications, covering letters, interview skills and CV writing.

Teaching Experience:

I am qualified to teach biology and chemistry from GCSE to A level. I have 4 years experience in a secondary school where I have taught pupils in the age range 11-19. I have worked with mixed ability classes, highly able pupils and SEN pupils. This year I am very proud of my students who have all excelled in their exams achieving above and beyond their target grades. All my GCSE students improved their mock results by at least two grades. My AS students all achieved A -C grades with the new specification. My AQA A level students all achieved the required grades to enter their first choice university (gaining A-C grades in biology and chemistry). I have experience teaching the current OCR, edexcel and AQA specifications.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority focus when teaching science is to engage the students. To encourage an inquisitive mind so that the pupils will ask questions to develop their knowledge and understanding. It is also important to identify the role of science in our everyday tasks and activities - it touches on so many parts of our daily activities and links to many other subjects. It should be fun and interesting. The ability and drive to learn something new and build on that is key to progressing in a subject.

Personal Description:
Hello! I am an enthusiastic English teacher based in York, I specialise in Literature and teaching English as a foreign language.

I have completed a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature and gained a 2:1 along with a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). I now enjoy offering tuition in the York area.

I believe that it is important to really enjoy what you are learning about any subject and I hope I can help you in your experience with English!

Teaching Experience:

I completed a CELTA course in 2013 at York St John's University in order to train in teaching English as a foreign language; this was an amazing experience that truly prepared me for lesson planning and assisting students in their learning and development.

After the course, I set up a non-profit language class in York city centre to assist speakers of other languages in their development of English. This was targeted at working adults on a low income. The course ran for several months and was a hugely beneficial experience for both the students and teachers involved! Since then I have taught English as a foreign language both online and as a private tutor.

I have also tutored students towards GCSE English Language and Literature.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every student is different so I aim to fit the lessons around your individual goals and personality. I value preparation before each lesson (especially on my part!) because the whole experience can be so much more rewarding that way.

Varying learning techniques is important in each study session to really make the most of the lesson time and make it as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

I tend to design each student their own webpage so that they have their own personal online space; to find resources, homework, lesson information and leave comments of their own.

Personal Description:
I am a second year university Student in Southampton, I study Journalism and achieved a first in the first year of university. I want to pass on knowledge I have learnt in a number of work places, including Reuters in Canary Warf. I specialise in Journalism, History, Politics and in particular English Language.

Teaching Experience:

Have taught for a brief time in Primary Schools, however the main part of my teaching is now peer to peer making it less intimidating for a student to ask questions they may have on a topic.

In my secondary school I was a mentor for 11-17 year olds providing help and support for any school related needs they may have had.

I find nothing more fulfilling that helping a fellow student and watching them learn and understand the problem they once had trouble with.

Tutoring Approach:

Students will be able to voice questions they may have, and not feel embarrassed as I am a student myself. There will be homework involved, and I will target the area of the subject that the student is struggling with.

The fact I am still a student is important as I can bridge the gap between teacher and student. The most common problem students come to me with is that they feel embarrassed to ask questions to their school teacher.

I do not try and recite words from a textbook, but ask the students to learn from my experiences and ultimately do the best they can do.

Personal Description:
I am a chemistry teacher that has taught in a range of classroom environments. I have taught classes of 30 students and also taught students one to one in a classroom. I have experience teaching all the science subjects and will be able to enhance your studies no matter what curriculum you are using.

Skills test: I have passed and completed my skills tests for maths and literature this is required by all teachers.

Chemistry certificate: I have a chemistry certificate for subject knowledge enhancement from Canterbury Christ Church University, for A-Level chemistry.

University degrees: I have two degrees, one for my bachelors in integrated science. My second is a PGCE chemistry 11-18 degree for teaching. These were achieved at Canterbury Christ Church University.

Although not every private lesson can have an experiment. I do believe that even though the lessons are outside of a lab, there are still chances to learn from small experiments. I see this as a great opportunity for the students to see what they are learning. Students will also be able to put knowledge to practice, safely.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching all the science subjects and will be able to enhance your studies no matter what curriculum you are using.

I have a lot of availability and I will work around what the student requires. I also work weekends and school holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

One thing that is extremely clear when working in a school, is that all students learn differently.
Everybody is a genius. But If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid ("Albert Einstein"). These are the lines I work from as a teacher and truly bespoke my lessons to the students I am teaching. The reason for this is to get the best possible outcome for the lesson and the student.
