Personal Description:
I have a lifetime of experience in fine art (drawing and painting) as well as in graphic design and photography.
I now practice as a professional artist/painter. I use several mediums, pencil, conte, pastel, watercolour, acrylic and (mostly) oil.
I live in the Surrey Hills and am inspired by the landscape. However I am interested in picture making at all levels in any subject, believing that the subject is merely a reference point to an idea.
Art is largely subjective but is, like music, expressive of emotion, thought, ideas, and self.
I am an award winning artist having won the ArTTable Bronze Frame for my still life in 2015/

Teaching Experience:

Adult Education at Ruxley Lane Centre, Epsom and at Reigate School of Art, Redhill.
Secondary Education at Carshalton High school for Girls.
University/Further Ed. at Hull, Norwich, Epsom, Falmouth, East Surrey College, Norwich and Croydon Colleges of Art.
I tutor as workshops individually in my Buckland studio, or individual tuition at the subjects' homes.
I also visit and tutor in art groups and clubs by request.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in clear demonstration of artistic principles and techniques and by guided practice by students. I am against the traditional style of art tutoring that simply allows the student to work with sometime critical comment 'over the shoulder'.
Art can be taught to a good technical level in the same way as any subject. Whilst everyone has natural ability to a degree, the student can learn to observe and record by training the eye and right brain. Many have no confidence in their ability. My aim is to give knowledge that inspires confidence so that a student may understand image making and learn to develop their own style through understanding of the principles of drawing, composition and creative expression.

Personal Description:
I am an English and Portuguese Teacher and Translator. I translate and interpret from English to Portuguese and vice versa. I teach Portuguese and English as a foreign language.

Are you considering learning Portuguese? Here are some reasons why Portuguese might be an excellent choice for you:

• Portuguese is the sixth most widely spoken language in the world with over 230 million speakers in four continents.

• The official language of eight countries: Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, and São Tome and Príncipe, Madeira and the Azores.

• Widely spoken, though not official, in parts of India, Macau, Andorra, Luxemburg, Paraguay, South Africa, and Namibia.

• The working and/or official language in important international organizations such as the African Union, the Community of Portuguese Language Countries, the European Union, and Mercosul, the Organization of American States, the Organization of Ibero-American States, and the Union of South American Nations.

• Brazil is a 21st-century economic and industrial powerhouse. It is the 5th largest economy in the world, recently overtaking the UK's economy.

• Numerous scientists consider Brazil to be the country with the most important biological diversity in the world.

• You want to learn Portuguese as it's your partner's native language and you want to improve communication between you.

• I teach European Portuguese (Portugal), Brazilian Portuguese (Brazil) and African Portuguese (Angola and Mozambique).

So what are you waiting for? Come learn Portuguese.

Are you considering learning English? Here are some reasons why English might be an excellent choice for you:

• English is the first language of approximately 375 million people, is the official language in 54 countries and is the third largest language by number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.

• When combining native and non-native speakers, it is the most commonly spoken language in the world.

• The importance of learning English cannot be overstated in an increasingly connected and globalized world.

• For the many people that come to the United Kingdom from non-English-speaking countries every year, learning to communicate in English is important to enter and ultimately succeed.

• Working knowledge of the English language can create many opportunities in international markets and regions.

So what are you waiting for? Come learn English with me.

Teaching Experience:

From 2006 to 2012, I worked as a tutor guiding students in preparation of essays and dissertations in many different fields. Since 2012 I work as a full time Portuguese and English teacher in UK. I have experience with one-to-one and group lessons; beginners, intermediate, advanced and proficiency levels, present tuition and online tuition via Skype; teaching children from the age of 2; preparation for GCSE and A-level exams (OCR board); general training and language training for business purposes.

I have a degree in History with a teaching certificate which included one internship at a secondary school as a teaching assistant. I have a CRB and a DBS check. I did a 3-month training course for teachers at SLAS (Society for Latin American Studies) in 2012. I am flexible about working hours and commuting to work.

Tutoring Approach:

• General training: I teach how to use Portuguese in everyday situations, like introducing yourself to someone; giving personal information; going to a restaurant; asking directions; making a reservation in a hotel; using public transport, etc.

• Business: My teaching method is based on a communicative approach, focusing on achieving fluency, improving reading and listening comprehension, and expanding vocabulary. I teach the use of Portuguese in a variety of business environments, based on key skills like presenting information, taking part in meetings and videoconferences, handling telephone calls, negotiating and writing concise business letters, e-mails or reports.

• E-learning: My e-learning method is specifically designed for adults who may have limited hours available, prefer the convenience of learning online and need to improve their Portuguese language skills quickly.

• GCSE and A-level exams: I coach the student using past papers, besides writing, reading and listening exercises.

• Children and Teenagers: My lessons for children and teenagers are varied and enjoyable, with music, culture, and multimedia features to make the learning process very enjoyable and practical.

Personal Description:
I first started tutoring some of my fellow students in Elementary Logic during my second year at University and greatly enjoyed helping people improve their understanding of the subject and gain higher marks. Once my degree was completed I began tutoring A-Level students in Religious Studies and Philosophy in the Leeds area before moving to East Sussex.

The potential of tutoring can only be maximised if each student feels comfortable in lessons, so I actively try to cultivate a good working relationship with each student. After all, if I were not enthusiastic and passionate about the subject it would be impossible to motivate any students to be enthusiastic about it! So far all my students have improved their performance by at least by two grade boundaries following tuition with me.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with students with a broad range of abilities, from those that need some extra help to reach their full potential, to those that aren't in mainstream schooling and as such don't have any previous knowledge of the subject. Some students are very visual in their learning, others are very shy and need a lot of encouragement to speak, and there are others who are extremely capable if you ask them the right questions. Using a range of resources I can tailor a programme of study to suit each student.

During my time tutoring I have noticed how easily students can lose confidence in their abilities, which at times can be a barrier in their learning. By encouraging students to ask questions, looking at what they are doing right and breaking down topics into their simplest formulation, I help the individual gain confidence in the subject and the skills to answer questions fully.3

Tutoring Approach:

My role as tutor is not only to help the student understand the concepts involved but also to gain the confidence to discuss those concepts in an analytical manner. Religious Studies and Philosophy are disciplines that greatly benefit from one-on-one tuition due to the complexity of the issues. In large lesson groups individuals can easily become confused and aren't always able to receive the instant feedback needed to further explore the subject matter.

As a tutor not only do I expand students' knowledge base but also engage students in a positive way with the subject. If students have been finding a subject difficult their enjoyment of learning can become affected and they can lose the motivation needed to gain a broader understanding. By showing enthusiasm for my subject and using relevant examples and discussion points I reintegrate fun back into learning about the subject.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Anna. I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm currently writing my second memoir, about to publish a book on Writing Memoir and teaching a Memoir Writing class to small groups. I have a blog which is updated regularly with articles about writing, poetry and events.

Teaching Experience:

I taught in Adult Education at a variety of colleges for approximately 10 years (until 2000) - my main subject was Ancient Egyptian History - one of the colleges was Birkbeck University (University of London) I taught undergraduates. I ran a class for a number of years before that for City University on Ancient Egyptian History. For 6 years I taught Information Technology (seminars) at London Metropolitan University, to first year undergraduates. More recently (2000-2014) I worked in Criminal Justice delivering Cognitive Behavioural programmes to offenders and also on another programme supporting victims of violence.
I used to host language students for St Giles English Language school and also for a year taught TEFL one-to-one.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is Socratic in delivery, to draw from the student what they know, what their interests are and expand on that. I like to bring students to poetry, and know about poetry from a variety of cultures from Moslem (like Rumi, Omar Khayam) to French and Afro Caribbean writers. I think learning English should be broad and interesting and make people think. My teaching method is through a conversational approach, short written exercises for identifying strengths and weaknesses, building on strengths and working on areas that require a structured approach for improvement. Learning should be interesting and it should be fun.

Personal Description:
Hello - my name is Dave. I am a qualified Maths Teacher and an experienced A-level Maths Tutor. I specialise in teaching A-level maths and coaching students to attain the top grades at GCSE level. However, I enjoy helping people of all ages and abilities to improve their confidence and understanding of Maths.

I teach Maths at the Redhill Academy, Nottingham, specialising in A-level and GCSE students. I cover all core A-level topics as well as Statistics, Mechanics and Further Pure. I have extensive experience of working with students studying the AQA, Edexcel, OCR and OCR-MEI A-level specifications.

I offer a friendly and effective Maths Tutoring service aimed particularly at A-level maths students and GCSE students who intend to go on to study maths at A-level. In addition I have considerable experience of tutoring adult learners who need help with maths in order to progress their careers.

Tutoring normally takes place at my family home in Gedling, Nottingham.

Lessons usually last 1 hour.

Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss availability etc.

Thank you.

Teaching Experience:

I have considerable experience of teaching maths at all levels especially A-Level and GCSE. Over 10000 hours tutoring experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I have extensive and carefully planned resources for all the A-level maths topics which I teach. The student works at his/her own pace in order to build the depth of understanding that is essential to achieving the top grades. To a great extent the student is allowed to make his/her own mistakes, we can then tackle misconceptions and help to build confidence. Students are encouraged to ask questions to validate their understanding.

Overall my approach to tutoring is based around developing that depth of understanding and confidence in maths. This is broadly achieved by working closely with the student to build a trusting and supportive working relationship.

Personal Description:
My name is Celeste and I am 21 years old. I am based in Fulham and currently completing the final year of my economics degree at Brunel University. I am originally from the South Coast of England (near Brighton) but I have been living in London since 2014.

Throughout my education, I have achieved top grades in Maths, English, Economics and Business. Furthermore, as I am still a student, I am extremely up to date with the curriculum and exam boards. More importantly, my students are able to relate to me and look up to me as a role-model as well as just a tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring younger students since I was 14 years old. Whilst studying for my A levels, I returned to my secondary school as a volunteer and held weekly revision sessions to help students prepare for their GCSE exams. More recently, I have been tutoring A level students in maths, economics and business studies as well as guiding many GCSE students through their core-subject studies. I also hold group lessons for GCSE students as this is a very cost effective and fun method of study.

I am extremely proud of my students this term as all twenty of them are now reaching or surpassing their target grades before we have even hit the exam period.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make study fun! I am not yet a qualified teacher, but I can relate to students because I am so close to their age - it was not that long ago that I was studying for my own GCSEs and A Levels. My tutoring style would depend on the ability of the student. For beginners, I would work through their textbook with them, teaching theories and methods whilst completing exercises to cement the knowledge. I have found that using visual aids, such as coloured diagrams and simple "cheat sheets" is very beneficial so I would help the student to create this to use in their own revision.

For more advanced students who may just need to revise for exams, I will help them to complete past papers, giving them tips on good exam technique and how to collect all available marks in the most efficient way.

I have a consistent record helping students gain acceptance into London's most prestigious schools through the 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, 11+ or 13+ entrance exams, as well as routinely exceeding expectations by unlocking students potential for A* grades from Primary to GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

"My son connected with him from day one. Our son was at a very low ebb with his Maths, and Daniel stepped in and made real progress. From the first lesson, Daniel helped him to find the gaps in his knowledge and was able to get him to feel that he really understood. They worked together on anything that was challenging, and Daniel made such a difference. I think Daniel is an excellent teacher and we feel that our son has benefited enormously." - S D, mother (GCSE)

"The kids are very happy with your tutoring and so am I. They tell me that your lessons are excellent, and really building their confidence. We have put our faith in you Daniel. For the first time, our daughter has started to achieve top grades. We've also noticed other positive changes; she's a lot more sociable now too." - T K, father (GCSE and KS3)

"You've got a real talent: I can see that the you communicate with my son is really special; you get down to his level, you make friends, and you really connect." L H, father (Year 3)

"I can see that you've already made immense progress in the areas where our son is struggling. I'm really impressed with how much more easily he's working things out now. I tried and couldn't help him like you have!" - S W, father (11+)

"Daniel had a broad brief of inspiring my daughter to get excited by maths. He achieved this brilliantly with charm and enthusiasm. Daniel is inspiring, cool and effective." - T S, mother (Year 8)

"You've made it so much clearer; I thought I was never going to get this. I actually understand it all now!" - B S, student (8+)

"Daniel is full of energy and full of life. It is infectious! He can explain some very complex maths by chopping the material down into much more concise ideas. Entire double page spreads are condensed into an equation and a couple of bullet points. My daughter tells me that concepts that seemed complicated now seem easy, and that working with Daniel has saved her hours of struggling with revision. And if she's interested in a particular idea, he is fully able to expand beyond the syllabus too! He is a real genius, and the house brightens up each time with his presence!" - V N, mother (GCSE)

"I wish I could live with you so that we could have a lesson every day" - T A, student (Year 3)

"I got an offer for Westminster! I'm super happy. Thank you!" - A H, student (8+)

"Daniel has been a great tutor and a distinguished role model for my son. He has been talking about his 'smart teacher' ever since. He has the gift of teaching with fun and games. Thank you Daniel" - A O, mother (Year 1)

"You are by far our favourite tutor - and there have been many! I am so grateful to you for turning our son's maths around and giving him a true understanding of what he is doing - fantastic that you were able to achieve this." - C S, mother (Year 3)

"I can see a dramatic improvement. She's so much more focused, and her work is so much better." - K M, mother (Year 4)

"C got 3A*s so she was delighted, as were we. She did particularly well in statistics. Thank you very much for your contribution to that which boosted her confidence. Very positive feedback from us. C enjoyed her sessions with you and could quite see why you are so acclaimed." - J F, mother (GCSE)

"I showed E's teacher what she's been learning with you. She was really impressed; she says they're nowhere near that in school. E is way ahead of the class. She's doing so much better this year thanks to you Daniel." - A B, mother (11+)

"The results have been excellent. Both girls got straight As. G got a spectacular 100% in the exam! She was shocked because she didn't even think she was that good at it. Thank you for all your help." - C H, mother (7+)

"My son can't stop talking about you. He tells us all about the games you played, we can't believe he likes maths games!" - A O, mother (Year 2)

"Our son is very motivated and it's the first time I've seen him 'wanting' to do well. Very much due to your lessons!" - N W, mother (13+)

"My daughter tells me that you're a super genius - brilliant at maths, music, everything. I know that she will do well with you looking after her." - S A, father (GCSE)

"Daniel scored quite a coup when he had our son teaching his own maths class a method that the school teacher hadn't been able to teach them. Now A's whole class understands thanks to Daniel's method!" - W M, father (Year 5)

"C has come out top of the set in the majority of our assessments this term. I think her confidence is now far higher." - A A, C's school maths teacher (11+)

"We had been through countless tutors with my nephew and none of them could build up the relationship. But Daniel was different it's not easy to find a tutor of such high standard and character." - A S, uncle (Year 4)

"You were amazingly helpful to my son when you were tutoring him - you transformed his confidence in the subject and himself." - E A, mother (GCSE)

"It's so much clearer with Daniel than when we cover it in school" - A H, student (Year 7)

"My son was so excited after the lesson, telling me about your discussions with him which he found amazing." - C C, mother (Year 8)

"I was over the moon with my results. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your help" - M R, student (7+)

"Thanks to you (somehow!) my daughter managed to get A* A* in her maths, so you were right." and "Your explanations are absolutely worth it. You have rescued my daughter's confidence." - R V, mother (GCSE)

"Our son did fantastically in the maths paper that Daniel helped him with, and a high A overall. Daniel's help was marvellous. J had missed so much revision time having had flu at Easter, he would never have fitted it all in, but Daniel made everything so simple." - R M, mother (Year 6)

"Thank you again - I doubt you will get a clearer `before and after` demonstration of the impact you can have! In our view it is not just the quality of the teaching you delivered, but it is also the success in motivating our son to engage!" - M T, father (GCSE)

"Daniel was an enthusiastic and lively tutor professional in all respects. I enjoyed his sessions and, importantly, I got my A!" - R K, student (Year 8)

"M got her A* in Maths so will be doing Maths A level next year. We're both thrilled and wanted to thank you again for all the help you gave her." - A D, mother (GCSE)

"Thank you for all your hard work. Our daughter set off for her penultimate A Level this morning saying she had never felt better prepared for a Maths exam and hoping that she would get the chance to show off her understanding of the subject. Going into an exam as well prepared and confident as that is certainly a great achievement!" - S H, mother (GCSE)

"I got an A in maths!" - T F, student predicted a C grade at GCSE (GCSE)

"We've had several other tutors and we just cannot find anyone as good as Daniel" - A B, mother (11+)

"May I take this opportunity to say how much G is enjoying your lessons (a real first, in terms of her Maths!) " - C P, mother (GCSE)

"My daughter moved up a maths group thanks to you you've achieved amazing results! And the best thing of all is that our daughter is enjoying her sessions with you! You've obviously formed a really strong link with her. When we were on holiday, she would keep seeing interesting things and saying "oh, Daniel would like to see this"." - C B, mother (11+)

"Well it would seem that you have been vested with some sort of guru status. Our daughter did so well on her Maths that she exceeded average and banked an A*. All of us couldn't be happier" - A M, father (GCSE)

"I actually got an A in Maths! I can't believe it! Thank you for all your help." - F C, student predicted a D grade at GCSE (GCSE)

"I like the trick you taught me for my times tables Daniel it's made me the best in my class." - C S, student (Year 2)

"Daniel has been the most understanding and considerate tutor imaginable. Our daughter has been trying to get back to school after being very unwell, and he has shown great sympathy but also positive encouragement when she has been able to study. He has worked her hard when she has been well enough but has given her easier sessions when necessary. He has been punctual, with excellent communication and well prepared to the sessions. I am hoping to use him more in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him." - C W, mother (GCSE)

Tutoring Approach:

As a maths tutor, I animate and energise every area of study, especially those areas that a student has previously considered dull and disinteresting. I always promote the most thorough understanding and spirit of inquiry, and through the unique interests of the individual, I build long-lasting connections with the most fascinating areas of each subject, forming a firm foundation to ensure that my students are able to excel well beyond my time with them.

My goal with tutoring is to catalyse independence, not dependence as most tutors do, by showing students their own potential. I know from experience that every individual has the potential to achieve great things, and I love to help my students to strengthen their sense of self worth, and travel on a trajectory towards leaving a positive mark on the world.

I'm a young, dynamic, relatable and enthusiastic tutor that loves to teach and gets a great sense of pride from my students success. I am intuitive, patient and affable with every student, regardless of background. I always endeavour to be the best tutor I can be and provide the best results for my students.

I ONLY TEACH 1.5 HOUR SESSIONS OR LONGER:
You may think this is too long for younger students, but 75% of my students are primary school students all enjoying 1.5 hour sessions because of the 15 minute fun time at the end (see below). Hour long lessons seem to end just as you are really getting into a topic and for that reason I only teach 1.5 hour sessions or longer. From my extensive experience it is clear that 1.5+ hour sessions are much more productive, comprehensive and effective at achieving results.

15 MINUTE FUN TIME AT THE END (FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS):
With all my younger students we have 15 minutes at the end for fun time where we do together whatever they want - like drawing or a game. At a young age tutoring is seen as boring and something really not looked forward to, but the 1.5 hour session with the 15 mins at the end completely changes that as they see it as I get to make a drawing with Daniel again today etc. If the session was an hour there would no time for games as you can't teach much in 45 mins. My references say I'm great with kids and prove how these 15 minutes make all the difference by making the lessons more fun, productive and effective at achieving results.

FREE FIRST LESSON/CONSULTATION:
The relationship between the tutor and student strongly affects the effectiveness of tuition so I like to give a free introduction lesson to see if we 'click' and you like the way I teach. It's also a consultation where we discuss where your child is at and where they would like to be. The length of the free first session indicates the length of following regular paid lessons.

There's nothing to lose so help your child today!
