Personal Description:
I have been a teacher for over ten years and have gained excellent results with students achieving 100% A*-C at GCSE and 88% A*-B. I have also attained 100% A*-C in my A-Level, teaching both Edexcel Philosophy of Religion and the AQA Philosophy Course.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in top Grammar schools for both boys and girls and in good comprehensive schools with students of a range of abilities. I have also taught special needs students who struggle to comprehend difficult concepts and have pushed high flying academics to attain the highest marks.

For the past seven years I have also taught adults at the Institute of Education 'How to teach Philosophy'.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to first identify what needs to be learned and to agree this with the student. Once this is agreed I will then form a flexible timetable for the student and to identify what we can work on lesson by lesson. I think it is important for a tutor to be open to any needs that arise during the lessons and although I think smart targets are vital, I also feel the tutor should adapt their lessons to suit the pupil.

Personal Description:
As a professional writer with a range of credits in tv and radio (Eastenders, Holby City, The Bill), I gained experience of working with schools and colleges to develop the literacy skills of learners of all ages. Perhaps uniquely, I am also a fully-qualified Maths teacher equipped with the subject knowledge to teach to A-level. Aside from Maths and English, I occasionally teach guitar and ukelele and play in a couple of local bands. Though there is no escaping hard work, I think learning should be fun. As both a parent and a teacher, I believe you get the best out people (young people included!) if you listen, and try to see the world from their point of view.

Teaching Experience:

I have recent experience of teaching in both state and independent schools, but appreciate not everyone thrives in these environments.

Tutoring Approach:

Without personalised support from a sympathetic expert who can focus on and understand their needs, many young learners find themselves lost or feeling they are not reaching their full potential. As a tutor, I aim to give that support, in a relaxed and fun environment. I aim to identify and overcome any fears that may be blocking progress. Starting from individual interests, enthusiasms and motivations, whilst building on existing skills of which they may not be aware, I aim to develop the confidence and feelings of success that ultimately lead to achievement.

Personal Description:
I have many years of tutoring behind me and am currently studying for the Diploma in English Teaching to Adults.

I'm widely travelled and have spent many years living abroad. This has contributed to a high degree of fluency in Spanish and French. I acquire languages easily, being open to the cultures in which I find myself.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught exclusively in continental countries. One year in Finland, six years in Spain and two in Germany. In all cases the teaching took place in private schools or in company offices. Much of the teaching was 1 to 1, the rest being in small groups.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that language acquisition takes place when the learner is relaxed and so my approach may be considered informal. The choice of materials is a joint decision. Good classes can take place with or without them.

I also favour a communicative approach, which entails giving a needs analysis to all my learners.

Personal Description:
I am a student at the University of Birmingham School and, as a young tutor, I thoroughly understand the difficulties students face in achieving the top grades and how to improve revision strategies which will help with each specification. I have achieved 8A*/A grades at GCSE level.
I look for innovative ways in which I can teach and am driven by my capability of being able to instill confidence in students after two years of experience.
I am highly motivated and passionate about education, and work hard to show progress in my students. I use a wide range of resources with students and, as such, am familiar with the different exam boards.

Teaching Experience:

My aim is to create a friendly, non-pressured approach to learning. I realise that it is vital to build the self confidence of each of my students and to ensure a clear understanding of basic skills. I assess the children carefully through questioning and discussion to identify each child's misconceptions, strengths and weaknesses. I then use a range of strategies and explanations appropriate to that child's abilities. Hi I`m James, I`m laid back, reliable and approachable. I currently live and work in Rochester, Kent but am originally from Teesside.

I hold a Master of Science degree in Forensic Psychology as well as a Batchelor of Science degree (with honours) in Psychology and Criminology.

I`ve also completed vocational training in psychology including case formulation and treatment planning.

I currently work for the prison service providing psychological assessments and interventions for offenders.

As part of my job I am trained and experienced in being as responsive as possible to the needs of the people I am working with.

I can tailor how I communicate learning points to fit any learning style and can remain motivational with how I deliver session content.

Relaxed and laid back. Tutoring is an addition learning opportunity for young people (or adult learners). Students have to feel comfortable enough to ask for clarification or advice from their tutors.

I can be contacted any time of day and will reply as soon as I finish work. You will always get a response the same day, so if anything changes I'm pretty happy to rearrange :)
