Personal Description:
Professional teacher for over 30 years specialising in adult education and teenagers.

I have taught at all levels, including at Universities, around the world and am happy to travel where necessary.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for over 20 years around the world teaching IT and related subjects for companies such as Learning Tree, Peritas and IBM. I was one of the first qualified network engineers in the UK.

In 2006 I took and passed the Cambridge University CELTA course and exams and now teach English as a foreign language either one to one or to small groups ranging in age from 14 to adult both in the UK and in schools across Europe.

Business related courses include presentation skills and the art of public speaking; gender dysfunctionality courses and IT services courses (operating systems, networking, technologies, A+ etc)

Tutoring Approach:

With English the aim is to provide a personal conversation led approach to learning supported by written exercises to confirm the rules. Depending on the numbers involved the approach is practical and involves music, role playing, presentations, reading and writing skills. All training is geared to the needs of the individual and there is no set approach.

Language teaching can be more effective in groups and the cost for 2-4 students is 25 per hour. Please ask about larger group sizes.

All teaching can be for groups of up to 16. Costs will depend on numbers and location. Please ask for a quote. All rates exclude traveling costs and teaching materials.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Mathematics at Aberdeen University, and looking to make a little bit of extra money to help support my studies. I am very enthusiastic about maths and physics, something which I try to pass on to my tutees. I am looking to tutor standard grade, higher and advanced higher maths and physics and also advanced higher applied maths (mechanics) which is not listed on the site. I would also be willing to teach the English equivalents: GCSE, AS, and A level maths, further maths and physics, should anyone be interested. I am willing to travel or to tutor from my own flat (Old Aberdeen, near the University), whichever is more convenient for you.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2008. Although I could not list it on this site I would also be very interested in tutoring advanced higher mechanics. This is a subject which I actually taught myself in sixth year because my school was unable to provide the course. Having taught myself from a textbook I achieved an A grade in the exam. The skills I gained from this include the ability to set appropriate work, to decide which areas of the course need emphasis for the exam, and the ability to summarise the key outcomes from each topic.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to carefully go over what has been covered in class in order to find any areas of difficulty and then to spend time working through these areas and to build understanding and confidence to the point where the tutee can answer questions on the topic with ease. Moving through the coursework in this way ensures no gaps in course knowledge. In the lead up to exams and tests most of the time would be spent on revision and past papers, stopping to go over again any uncertainties. I would usually obtain from SQA the course specifications which detail each learning outcome, that is, what the student is expected to know. This gives me the ability to check through, systematically, every area which the tutee could possibly be tested on and thus ensuring that the tutee is fully prepared for the exams.

Personal Description:
I studied Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded the Craig Taylor Prize for the best exam results in my year. I then spent a year at Harvard as a Frank Knox Fellow before completing an MPhilStud in Philosophy at Birkbeck College, University of London. I am currently a PhD student at the University of Sussex, but based in London.

My specialist areas are political philosophy, epistemology, critical theory, and Wittgenstein. I can also help with reading German philosophical texts, and issues of translation.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor since 2010 and enjoy teaching all ages and levels. Most of my students have been university and A-level students, including mature students.

As well as teaching privately I have been an Associate Tutor at Birkbeck College, teaching BA seminar courses in political philosophy, ethics, and epistemology.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is always to make the subject comprehensible and engaging while challenging students to think for themselves.

Here's what some of my former students said:

'Koshka really helped me to grasp philosophy. Rather than simply training me to pass exams, she encouraged me to develop a thorough understanding of the subject, primarily through detailed reading and Socratic discussion. The tutorials aided me in achieving consistently high grades (90%+ UMS in every module), and compelled me to study philosophy at university.' (Alex, mature A-level student)'

'Koshka was very helpful and patient, and explained everything very clearly. She also provided extra reading that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding (and enjoyment) of my subject. Not only did I learn a lot from our sessions, they were also fun and interesting.' (Ruby, AS-level)

'Koshka had a very comprehensive and thorough approach to the course and was also a relatable and easy to talk to individual. Her out of lesson dedication to marking essays and then detailed run through of them was invaluable to my personal development. Finally, her extensive knowledge and passion for philosophy definitely went some way to helping me feel the same way about the subject.' (Vyshnan, A-level)

BA tutorial evaluations: 'Brilliant essay feedback. Great paper recommendations'; 'Very engaging'; 'Very good at explaining things';'Much enjoyed'.

Personal Description:
Hi!

I can help to be better at English - whether it`s speaking, listening, reading or writing.

____________________-

I will assess you and then work with you to pinpoint your problems providing targeted teaching that explains the correct English for that context.

If your formal understanding of English is good but you want to become more fluent, we can look at culture, slang and social language to help you fit in better with your peers. Often, informal language is the key to better business networking - you need to be able to chat in the bar after a meeting to make contacts!

Similarly, if your formal English is good but your accent is a problem, we can work together to improve this. To understanding speakers from other countries, much of what native speakers have trouble with is their stress patterns and intonation.

Whether you need help with revision for exams, want to learn for fun, want to improve your chances of business or just need someone to support you to study harder, I can help you!

I can also work with children 10+ - although my qualification is an adult one, the methods are the same and I have many, many hours of classroom experience with junior-age students and teenagers.

Teaching Experience:

I`ve recently qualified as an English language teacher, am working for Languages United, provide 1:1 lessons and have multiple previous experience in assisting speakers of other languages to develop their English.

I`ve also worked at the City of Bath College as a student support worker for 2 years to students with learning differences, learning difficulties and emotional/behavioural problems to enable them to successfully attend college

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed but thorough!

I like my students to feel at ease when we work together - a happy student learns best! I always do an initial assessment for each student and will ask you about your preferred learning styles: maybe you like to do things by rules and learn lots of grammar, maybe you prefer to play lots of games.

Similarly, you might want to focus on your speaking, listening, writing or reading or you might need specialised language for business, academia or socialising. If there's just one area you need to focus on, it's no problem.

I will always provide a lesson that meets your style and needs. Whether you want serious work or lots of games, and whether you need work on your formal or informal language, it will always be based on proper grammar, authentic use and rules.

Personal Description:
What do you see in this world? I perceive the world as a colorful and colours always represent me. I like drawing and painting when I was a child, painting and drawing enable me to be peaceful and patient, inspire me to become a sophisticated designer. Since childhood, one of my biggest dreams is to become a sophisticated designer and artist. It has always been my dream to travel around the world to gain more knowledge with different art history from other countries.

I was suffering from severe skin allergy that I needed to visit doctor all the time in F.4. The skin allergy had put much pressure on me, affected my academic performance at that time, forcd me to drop out of secondary school. I felt miserable all the time during the period of recovering, so I focused myself on an activity I always love - drawing. Through drawings, I was not only able to find joy and release my stress, but also able to improve my drawing skills.

As I was recovering gradually, I enrolled in the Diploma in Vocational Education (DVE) of Jewellery Arts and Design in Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education to pursue my interests in arts and design. The program equipped me with skills and technique in making jewellery, drawing and design technique with design concept, development and finalizing design work etc. I enjoy it very much since I could learn the in-depth knowledge in jewellery and arts. Also, I learnt some practical skills such as annealing, brazing and casting, which I could later apply these skills on jewellery arts making. Every time I completed a piece of jewellry, I could feel contented with a sense of achievement and got promoted to my making skills.

After graduating from the DVE programme, I continued my studies a Higher Diploma in Jewellery Design and Technology at the same school. The programme have provided me with lots of specialized and professional knowledge in gemology, further design and making skills. Throughout the programme, I learnt various gemstones and had seen many stunning designer pieces made out of them. Also, the programme had not only provided me intensive training on hand sketching, but the knowledge on Jewellery CAD , a design and manufacture software for jewellery, all these professional skills enable me to create designs for jewellery. During my studies, I have an opportunity in participating two jewellery competitions and I was selected as the finalist of both competitions. Although I did not win those competitions, I had obtained valuable experience which could utilize them in the coming challenges as well as chances to get to known the industry.

I had much curiosity in the jewellery industry and therefore working in a jewellery company as a part time designer when I am still a student. My works have been shown in jewelley fair. I received many positive comments from our customers who shown their interest and expressed that they appreciate my designs for their fruitful elements. I am delighted and grateful to receive their comments which had inspired me to be a further encouraged me to become a successful designer and a art teacher.

Personal Description:
I am a professional, conservatoire trained, theatre director, drama and LAMDA teacher based in London. My greatest strengths are my creativity on stage, ability to manage and communicate with people and to generally be an effective leader of different age groups, from Age 5 to Age 65.

My theatre voyage stydying MFA Theatre Directing at East 15 Acting School provided Jacques Lecoq puppet, clown and physical training and core modules examining Shakespeare, musical theatre, opera, comedy, contemporary British writing and actor training which has informed my practice as a teacher and director.

A huge part of my study was on theatre of the East, where I visited Bali, Indonesia for one term to study at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI Denpasar). Here I had intensive training on forms such as Topeng Masked Dance, Legong Dance, Wayang Kulit and an introduction to Balinese Hinduism and performance cultures along with the opportunity to collaborate with actors, directors and filmmakers, and world-famous industry professionals.

I believe my administrative experience, my sales and marketing capabilities, together with my teaching and theatre qualifications with a healthy dose of imagination and a playful nature have all added to my effectiveness as an director, accomplished administrator, communicator and good all rounder.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked consistently in London theatres and in schools over the last 7 years and most recently have been working as the Artistic Director of Fusion Theatre Company, a company I founded, developing shows, workshops, education packs and training programs for pupils and teachers linking with National Curriculum Topics in order to utilise drama as a tool for learning. Most recently I have set up a LAMDA training section of the company, offering group sessions, duologue and monologue sessions for primary and secondary school.

Although I do the majority of my work within Theatre in Education and drama training, I also am currently the Associate Director of Maverick Theatre, whos mandate is to create reimaginations of classic literature in unexpected places.

Prior to setting up my own company, I was an assistant director, teaching assistant and technical operator at Trent College, for a number of shows, abridging and cutting scripts, marketing the school's productions, organising the shared diary and assisting with general curriculum work, organising year 9 classes and office administration. During that time I also worked as a LAMDA teacher with 14 students of my own, all of whom successfully achieved Grades 2 and 3 at the end of the summer term. During my second year I was given the opportunity to direct my own productions, as well as a substantial pay increase. I directed a sixth form production of "Two" by Jim Cartwright, followed by The Sixth Form Review [a comedy sketch show], a production of "Shakers" by John Godber, and a production of "Equus" by Peter Shaffer, and finally an outdoor theatre production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with a year 7 group. Two years of hands-on experience in education taught me the fundamental rules of theatre, production, discipline and how to motivate others to give their best performance.

Theatre plays a vital role in education to nurture and create opportunities for young people, using the arts as a vehicle to understand the world they live in and the people they are as well as develop crucial life skills. I believe that the most effective way to learn is through theatre and performance and because of this I have an incredible love for youth theatre and working with children and find it extremely rewarding.

Since my study, I have been doing workshops and acting courses with students from University upwards. Whether it be a specific genre of theatre or audition pieces.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is completely guided by the person I am working with. My natural instincts as a teacher are to get the student to relate to the material as well as they can by giving them something to compare it with in their own life. As a student of LAMDA since age five and from my extensive experience as a tutor throughout my career I discovered that by adopting a personal approach to teaching and mentoring, identifying the individual strengths of each student, and harnessing and working with those strengths, I was able to yield some incredible results not just within primary and secondary school but utilising this practice for all ages.
