Personal Description:
I have a PhD in laser beam shaping and a first class BSc in Physics. I am a published scientist and I have teaching experience ranging from lecturing at undergraduate level to tutoring A-level and GCSE students.

I am 34 years old, married with a three year old son. As well as tutoring I also work for a leading firm of UK and European patent attorneys in central London, helping people and companies to protect their ideas.

I am approachable, patient and friendly, and an ideal tutor for anyone needing extra help in Maths or Physics.

Whether you sitting your GSCEs or preparing for university exams, I can help you gain the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to gain your full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Maths and Physics in the UK since 2006.

I have experience in lecturing at first and second year undergraduate level, having taught the Fundamentals of Physics course to English speaking students at Northeastern University in China from 2012-2014.

From 2006 to 2012, I tutored an average of nine students per year, mainly for Maths GCSE and Physics A-levels across the OCR, EdExcel and AQA exam boards.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiastic approach to tutoring and always try to ensure a real sense of progress and satisfaction by the end of each lesson by working on high priority problem areas first. I pride myself on my ability to explain complex ideas in a simple and memorable way and I also teach exam and revision techniques that really do work.

I offer a friendly relaxed teaching environment tailored to the learning style of each person I teach. During lessons I draw up notes that the student can keep, I work through relevant exam questions, and I set homework within the limits agreed by the student and/ or the parent so that the student can build their confidence in the time between lessons.

Personal Description:
I am 53, with a B.Sc. in theoretical physics and an M.Sc. in quantum field theory (with some astrophysics), both from Imperial College, London. I have spent some years working in IT, but maths and physics are the subjects I love, and I enjoy teaching them. I'm familiar with all mathematics (including further maths) and physics to beyond A level standard and theoretical physics to university graduate level.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught chess at school.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to teach the concepts clearly. Once the student has
the fundamental concepts straight then academic attainment follows naturally.

Many pupils struggle with maths and physics because of poor explanations
of the concepts involved. Schools often rely on rote memorisation and cramming, as
alternative to understanding. My approach is to explain the derivation of
material. A successful technique is to work through the pupil's choice of homework
or revision problem exercises or past exam papers, showing how each exercise can
be solved. This way the tutoring is targeted at exactly those areas that require
help and is also most directly relevant to achieving exam success.

All curricula and exam boards covered.

Personal Description:
I'm a ex-mathematical physicist from Cambridge turned film director, and also freelance as a data-scientist. I have two funded feature films in development and have made music videos and adverts. I started tutoring when I switched careers because the film industry is unstable, especially as a freelancer. I keep up the tutoring now because I enjoy it and look for assignments I think are interesting and where I can really make a difference.

I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in and education in general. Education forms the foundation for freeing us from bigotry and ignorance, makes us better people and permits us to live richer, better lives. Knowledge is liberating and my subjects especially open many doors. They are not easy and require a willingness to work hard, but I strongly believe that anyone can get to grips with them if given the correct guidance. Most often the problem is not the student but a poor teacher, unresolved conceptual difficulties or lack of motivation. I want to fix these issues for you.

I'd say my approach to education is rigorous, highly intellectual and what one might term renaissance in approach. I'm interested in all aspects of education, and how our disparate academic disciplines connect which is somewhat antithetical to the modern approach to education but just the sort of thing one needs to get into Oxbridge and the like.

Why is tutoring important to me? Firstly, I feel it is my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills I have attained; secondly, I find it satisfying to help others learn and achieve what they did not think possible, regardless of their ability; and finally, I think one of the best ways to assess your own understanding of a subject is to teach it; we learn the most about our areas of expertise when we try convey their concepts and methods to an audience.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many (over 100) students privately over the past six years, improving their results in all cases where the students have followed my advice and worked hard. I'm only interested in teaching people who are prepared to do this work and better themselves, especially if its for something like the 11+/common entrance.

Beside the subjects listed in my profile, I will also teach 11+/common entrance, coding/game design, statistics and probability, film-making, creative writing, government and politics, economics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and I persevere. I am happy to tutor people across all ranges of ability but I expect you to work hard and follow my advice.

My tutoring includes:

- encouragement of free and critical thinking
- varying teaching methods depending on what the student is most receptive to including: problem based learning, discourse, traditional exercises, experiments, lectures
- exam preparation
- confidence building
- resolution of conceptual difficulties
- helping with homework
- homework marking
- undergraduate and postgraduate application advice
- coaching for Oxbridge entrance including the STEP papers
- interview advice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- email contact throughout the week to resolve your problems as an when they arise
- group tuition

Please note (a) while I am based in Hackney, I will cover all areas of London; (b) I can offer reductions for group sessions.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2011 with a degree in Experimental Psychology, and received a Masters in 2015. I have been tutoring for more than 5 years, and run a company focused on inspiring students to reach their potential through study techniques based on neuroscientific evidence. This involves delivering interactive workshops for students in schools and colleges across London.

I love teaching and thrive on the satisfaction of helping a student reach their goal; I welcome students of all abilities, motivation levels and confidence levels. What sets me apart from most is that as well as tutoring my students, I take the role of a mentor, to motivate, encourage and guide them towards success. My students also benefit from my knowledge of study skill techniques, which I integrate into my teaching to maximise students' memory retention.

For students applying for Oxbridge, I am able to provide valuable advice on interview techniques and personal statements, as well as provide contacts to graduates from Oxford University from a range of subjects. I am also able to tutor students for entrance exams e.g. 11+.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored extensively for over 5 years at Primary, GCSE, A-level, and Degree level with excellent results. I have had students move up by up to 4 grade boundaries at both GCSE and A Level; for the 11+ I have helped students secure places (including scholarships) at excellent institutions such as Dulwich College. At degree level, my Psychology students have achieved 1sts and 2:1s. I am happy to provide references on request!

Tutoring Approach:

My first step is always to assess exactly where my student is at so that I can plan the content for sessions accordingly and make sure that they get the best out of each lesson. If there are any gaps in the foundations of their knowledge we can then attack these head on. My approach is thus very organised and tailored to the specific needs of the student, with small goals set per session alongside a long term goal to work towards. I always ensure that my lessons are engaging, and work towards building a good relationship with my students, encouraging them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching.

At GCSE and A Level, my aim is always to make sure that students are completely familiar with the subject specification and assessment objectives as this dictates exactly where they can pick up most marks. Completing as many past papers as possible is also a step in the right direction, alongside completing assignments set by myself. I always give very detailed feedback so that my students know exactly where they can improve, and how to apply it to their work going forward.

My approach for students studying Psychology at degree level depends on what is required. Most students require guidance with essays, reports, dissertations and write ups; I usually go through the assignment with the student giving valuable, detailed feedback on what can be improved and exactly how they can go about doing so. This can involve several redrafts until the work has been completed to the students' full potential.

Personal Description:
I am have graduated with a First Class degree Actuarial Science at London School of Economics.
I have achieved A*A*A*A in my recent A Level results and have also represented my country in various mathematics competition which include me winning an Honourable Mention in Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad.
Have also achieved Gold Medal in National Physics Competition in my country.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously volunteered with the Salvation Army and had taught GCSE students over there. Overall it went quite well and I saw improvement in their ability to answer questions and attitude towards the subject.
I have also been an assistant Mathematics Olympiad coach. This job required me to lecture some of the best students in Malaysia so that they can score well in national competitions.
Thus, I believe I am able to teach students of different abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually start with the basics. I believe that with a good basic, the student would then be able to improve him/herself to be better instead of just idly solving a question and showing the steps to the student.
Also, I would try to include real life application if its possible so that the student remain interested and understand more about the things being studied.

Personal Description:
I'm a young and professional Secondary English Teacher.

My expertise is English Language and Literature in the 11-19 range but my qualifications, teaching experience and academic knowledge make me a suitable candidate for a much wider range of subjects and ages.

My teaching approach is engaging and productive. I know how to get the best results from all students and have an excellent professional record. Recent successes include: preparing a Saudi Arabian adult learner for his University application, helping an AS student rise from an E to a B in her History exam and helping a SEN child make the transition from primary to secondary school.

I have an outstanding rapport with my tutees who all benefit from my warm and focused, student-centred approach.

Whether you are revising for an exam, working on coursework, applying for a particular course or institution or just wanting to develop your academic skills, my enjoyable and effective tuition will reap huge benefits for you.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher with over eight years' experience in Asia and London. My expertise in adapting the curriculum for individual needs, creating strong and supportive learning environments, and providing focused and constructive feedback all ensure that my students make exceptional progress. Some of my recent professional achievements are my consistent recognition as an Outstanding teacher through performance appraisals, taking a leadership role in exam interventions, and working in a department whose students were recognised as being in the top 1% nationally for progress in English.

I left full time teaching in 2016 to take a writer's sabbatical which led to a part time Masters in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths University. I now work as an intervention specialist with schools in the Brighton and Hove area and have a strong client base of tutees.

My intervention work within schools gives me access to an incredible range of resources and means that I am fully experienced in the English National Curriculum and its range of exam boards. The balance between intervention work and tuition also means that I have much more time to focus on the needs of my tutees.

Before qualifying as a teacher in the UK, I spent three years as an EFL teacher in Asia. I taught and tutored a diverse age range catering for every kind of student, whether they were learning to read or applying to study at an international University. As a tutor, my services were popular and well subscribed by University students, adult learners and family groups.

Throughout my teaching career I have taught many forms of literacy and critical thinking. I know how to tailor my lessons to individuals students whether they are learning English as an additional language, studying for entrance exams or working toward a particular personal goal..

Tutoring Approach:

I have often been praised for having an approachable and inclusive manner with all my students. I always adapt my teaching to their needs and deadlines, offering a strong commitment to student support. I believe that tutoring can be an important period of self-actualisation for students and feel that, in this context, my role is to broaden understanding, develop skills, and inspire interest in the subject and its critical study. I maintain high expectations, engaging students in effective ways with their progress and the challenges of the exam.

I thoroughly enjoy being a personal tutor and that enthusiasm passes on to those I teach. I have an excellent rapport with people and always make sure that my students feel at ease and comfortable in their learning environment.

I understand how important the decision making process is to find the right tutor. In acknowledgement of this, I offer all students a free first tutorial so that the all important learning relationship can be set up and any queries satisfied.

If you would like more information about how I would tailor my tuition for your needs then please email me with any questions.

Personal Description:
In all these years, I have tried to transfer my knowledge to everybody I had sat down to help with his/her economics and business exams (especially accounting and finance). I have provided, and still do when necessary, tuition to members of the family and friends.
Even in College, I have assisted friends in their maths and accounting courses, aiming at helping them understand the methodology that is behind numbers.
I have high confidence in myself that I can succeed in a private teaching/tutoring role. I have always admired young people's minds, and I believe that a teacher's responsibility is to help them both shape them and enrich them within the frame of each individual's personality.

Teaching Experience:

My current position is Lecturer in Finance in one of the leading private business schools in the UK. I am focusing in those areas that I have had a 17 year working experience. Working in the real business world for all these years is an asset for me, which will definitely help me transfer the knowledge I have gained, to younger people.
I have also been recently appointed by a secondary school, as Accounting tutor for a group of students to assist and prepare them for their A2 Accounting exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always believed that the best approach to tutoring is the pen and paper approach. That is, I find necessary for a student to practice as much as possible through exercises and problem solving. And as ancient Greeks once said: "Reviewing is the mother of knowledge".

September 2014 - December 2014: Taught an introductory Latin course for adults
September 2014 - June 2015: Privately taught the GCSE Classical Civilisation course to a student (who received an A*)
September 2012 - January 2013: Taught an introductory Latin course to a local primary school
September 2011 - June 2015: Ran an extra-curricular GCSE Greek course at a local school alongside university studies

Alongside this I also have extensive experience of tutoring pupils privately and have tutored a wide-range of abilities and ages ranging from under 11s to those studying for A-Levels (in English and Latin) and I have managed to help many of those taking exams to obtain A/A* grades. I also have experience teaching the casual learner who does not want to take examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is unique to each individual and involves building up a relationship with the tutee so I can provide the most effective tuition depending on their learning style.

However, in general terms, my approach is a practical one and I encourage students to view the literature (whether Greek, Latin or English) in an analytical way and endeavour to teach the method rather than just the answer. Where possible, I will choose material that will interest the tutee so that, as far as possible, they will enjoy the process of reading and analysing the piece of text.

Personal Description:
I am a 3rd year medical student with a previous degree in Biomedical sciences. I studied Maths, Biology and Chemistry at A2 levels and Economics at AS-level attaining 3A's and a B respectively.

Teaching Experience:

I currently mentor maths to Year 10 students once a week through my university. Not to worry, I still have a lot of time for personally tutoring.
I also tutored people for exam preparation in A-level Biology

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to get you confident in the subject of choice and able to attain the best possible grade you can achieve. I am very patient and enthusiastic about teaching, and love seeing students excel.

I like to push students past their current limits and get them to challenge themselves while being encouraging. The more confident the student gets, the more interested in that subject they become. I am always happy to lend a helping hand.

Personal Description:
I have been a teacher of Economics for the past 6 years and the results my students achieve are significantly above the national average. I have had previous experience as an Economics Examiner for AQA and currently examine for Edexcel (new specification!).

Teaching Experience:

I currently work for a leading Independent School In Dorset. I have six years experience teaching Economics A Level.
I was an Economics Examiner for AQA from 2012-2015.
I am currently an Economics Examiner for Edexcel and worked on both the Micro and Macro papers for the new specification last year.

Tutoring Approach:

My availability for private tutoring can be quite erratic as I work for a boarding school and have three young children. I would be willing to travel within a 15 minute radius of Sherborne to tutor.
