Personal Description:
I am a fully-qualified professional teacher with almost 25 years of experience. I regard myself as a friendly and approachable tutor, as well as honest and conscientious, and I pride myself on being able to communicate with students of all ages, from pre-teen to pensioner.

I currently teach English part-time at an independent school in Sutton. I am available for tutoring English (11+, 13+, Ielts, GCSE, A-level, IB) and Spanish (GCSE, A-level, IB) in the boroughs of Sutton and Merton, although I am prepared to consider other areas, such as Kingston, Banstead and Epsom, if travelling time is accounted for.

I am the father of two young boys, and we live in the Sutton area. My wife and I successfully tutored our sons for Sutton's grammar schools, and they are now happy to be working hard at WCGS.

Teaching Experience:

I have almost 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience at schools and colleges in the UK and abroad. I have taught and tutored English (including IGCSE, EFL and IELTS) in Spain, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Abu Dhabi, and also for many years in the UK of course. I have worked as a private tutor ever since I started teaching, as I realised that the existing state and private education providers could not meet the demand for high-quality intensive tuition.

I offer personal tuition in English and Verbal Reasoning for those parents whose children (like mine!) are undertaking preparation for the 11+ exams for the Grammar schools in Sutton and Kingston, and Common Entrance (13+) coaching for pupils preparing to enter the many independent schools in the area. In addition, I give personal coaching for the independent schools' admission interviews.

I also give tuition in ESSAY WRITING and STUDY SKILLS, as my experience has taught me that many students face real problems in these areas. By working together on students' essays, substantial improvements can be made in style, organisation, argument, presentation, and much more. This way, I can teach you how to produce more effective and mature essays, and thus help you to obtain better grades and increase your confidence in producing written work.

Tutoring Approach:

I endorse the humanist approach, and try to make my tutorials as interesting and relevant as possible. With every tutee I carry out an initial assessment of their needs and abilities, and my teaching begins from there. This approach appears to be successful, and I can provide references.

Over the past three years I have successfully tutored students for the following schools, colleges, and universities:

Schools: Sutton Grammar, Wilsons, Wallington County, Wallington High, Nonsuch, Whitgift, Trinity, Wimbledon High, Kings School, City of London, Epsom College, Ewell Castle, and several others.

Colleges: Carshalton, Merton, NESCOT, and Kingston

Universities: Manchester, Warwick, City, East Anglia, St Martins, Lincoln, Bournemouth, and several others.

Please note that my fees are very affordable. I now charge a flat rate of £30 per hour for every subject. A 75-minute class costs £35, and 1.5 hours of tutoring is £40.

NB: Any classes that involve more than 6 miles travel (round trip) usually incur a small extra charge.

Personal Description:
I am an engaging, easy-going person with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to see my students develop and grow to their full potential. Holding a Master's in Globalisation and Communications from the University of Leicester and a BA Politics from the University of Exeter shows my high level of academic attainment and developed research skills. These skills also extend into the research design process as I have previously designed several studies, both qualitative and quantitative in nature.

Aside from learning, my main interests lie within the usual three (music, books, and films) and writing.

If you are wanting to be tutored in your home, then will be more than happy to travel.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many students in the past to great success, with levels ranging from AS to University standard.

In addition, I have previously tutored GCSE students and proof-read numerous pieces of Master's level work.

Tutoring Approach:

For me, education is not about giving the correct answer to those learning, it is about providing the right skills to get there by themselves, Most of all, learning cannot be done in a dull environment, it has to be casual and entertaining. That's what I hope to do anyway.

Personal Description:
Unlike many, who kind of drift into teaching, because they couldn't think of a job they wanted to do, I made a change of career after 20 very successful years in the computing industry. I was doing very well developing computer software, but I wanted to do something which was a little more sociable than staring at a computer screen all day. So, teaching maths seemed like a good idea, especially as I've always enjoyed the subject.

As well as teaching maths face-to-face I recently published a book (see below) it's available in hard-copy and kindle versions. It`s also available free on my website. But I'm not allowed put my contact details here.

I'm typically very informal and relaxed, which most students seem to appreciate.

Teaching Experience:

Again, my experience is a bit different from most UK teachers. Sure, I'm UK qualified and have taught in England, but I've also taught in New Zealand, Germany and Italy. For me (and for you) this is a huge plus, because the standard of teaching is better abroad. People mistakenly think that getting a teacher with years of UK experience is the best strategy. Nothing could be further from the truth! You will probably get someone with good behavioural management and admin skills, but it will be at the expense of their subject skills. I've taught across the entire 11 to 18 age range and at all abilities from struggling 11 year old students to top set 18 year old students. I've taught in all-boys schools, all-girls schools, mixed schools, FE and sixth form colleges. This has been at schools that get good results!

As well as A-Level, I've taught IB Diploma: Mathematical Studies, Standard Level Mathematics, and Higher Level Mathematics - I've given intensive revision courses in the last two, which were very well received. Once again, I would have to say that IB Diploma is more demanding than A-level - on both the student and the teacher.

So, whether you need help with Core, Further Maths, Mechanics, Statistics, or Decision Maths, I've got the experience to help you. I can also help you get the best out of your graphics calculator (all senior maths students should have one), which will give you an advantage in your exams. On this point, you might like to note that I have recently published a book about using the TI-Nspire, for those taking GCSE or IGCSE. And, I expect I will publish another one, for A-level and I.B. Diploma students, before too long.

As you can probably surmise from the above, maths is my main subject, and my favourite subject, but I also have experience of teaching both physics and chemistry. I have taught both of these subjects across the entire secondary school age range, and so I can also offer tutoring in them. Just for interest, you might like to know that at school chemistry was my favourite subject, and I obtained a grade A A-Level in it when I was 16.

Tutoring Approach:

Students typically come to tutoring for two reasons. They either need help to get better at what they are doing at school or, more rarely, what they are doing at school isn't challenging enough and they want to take things further.

For those who want to concentrate on what's going on at school, I will typically focus on what they are finding difficult, help them understand it better, and tackle the exercises they have been given in class or for homework. Of course, I can provide further exercises and examples to help consolidate and improve their learning.

For students who want to take things to the next level, we can either move ahead in the curriculum, extend the topics they have covered or even look at other areas of maths that they will find challenging and interesting. When it comes to extending talented students, I may well have better resources than their school.

Why do I adopt this style of tutoring? Because lots of previous tutoring experience has shown me that it's what students want, and it works.

Personal Description:
I have a BA grade 2.1 obtained at University of Chester in English and a CELTA/ESOL teaching qualification from University of Cambridge. I am a bilingual speaker of Italian and Spanish. I have been teaching for five and half years in state schools, academies, summer camps for young learners of languages and private houses. There is nothing that gives me more satisfaction and sense of fulfillment than teaching languages. It is a fascinating experience to see students learning and progressing, and gaining confidence in expressing themselves in another language.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored and taught Italian, Spanish and English as a Foreign Language for more than 5 years in schools, academies, languages summer courses and private houses. I prepare GCSE/IGCSE/A-Level students for their examinations or coursework and speakers of other languages for ESOL/Trinity College examinations. I have also taught Spanish and Italian for business purposes in private companies and in one-to-one sessions. I can adapt my teaching resources to different teaching environments such as students' homes, my own home, clubs, conference rooms etc. I use IT such as PP presentation etc, and textbooks. I have created my own resources as well, in order to adapt to different needs and enhance students' level and abilities.
I can provide references( from head teachers, adult students, etc.) regarding the high standard of my teaching methods. Students have always attained high marks in their examinations after being tutored by me.

Tutoring Approach:

I can design and tailor my lessons plans following my personal syllabus- which include a range of activities that stimulate the different skills required when learning a foreign language, namely writing, reading, speaking and listening. I can target specific areas, if needed, such as pronunciation, use of language, grammar or reading.
I can create my own resources using the internet, textbooks and other sources of information. I usually take into consideration the different abilities of students in order to tailor my lessons and make them more effective and interesting.
My lessons are designed to motivate and encourage independent learning. I elicit from students as much knowledge as possible from previous learning in order to scaffold it with new notions and provide them with practical linguistic tools. I stimulate their productive skills, e.g. speaking and writing, by using visual cues or written prompts in order to give them suggestions and make them work independently. I use as much 'real life'material- Internet, DVDs, songs, extracts of conversations from foreign media, etc.- as possible. I tend to do this from an early stage of the learning experience in order to make the student aware that the language they are learning is a live and real one, spoken by millions of people overseas. When teaching English as a Foreign Language, I motivate students to practice English outside the lesson environment and provide them with practical speaking skills. All this, of course, alongside the academic preparation for their exams.
I am an approachable teacher, and I like to create a comfortable learning environment where the student can build up his/her confidence to use the foreign language and 'take the risk' to speak Italian, Spanish or English. A good teacher is the one who can guide the student without being too intrusive. In short, the teacher must be able to listen and interact with their students. Only in this way students can have a truly enjoyable and rewarding learning experience.

Tutoring Approach:

Since I'm a very patient person and I really enjoy teaching, I'm one of the most suitable options to be chosen as a tutor. Besides, I'm a Spanish native speaker, which empowers me to offer a more precise and accurate feedback to my students, in terms of grammar rules, spelling, pronunciation and phonetics issues.

Personal Description:
I am friendly and very easy to get along with. I work diligently and very well with other people. I am a very organised individual who always makes the best effort to be fully prepared for whatever tasks I am given. I am due to start work as a solicitor in August and am keen to begin teaching as it is something I enjoy and excel at. I Studied the International Baccalaureate at Sixth Form and attained 10 GCSE grades A*-B.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst I have no previous tutoring experience in a professional capacity, I come from a large family and have three younger siblings all of whom I have tutored towards GCSE, A-Level and International Baccalaureate qualification. I also have experience of working with children as a football coach at the Gothic Youth World Cup in Sweden and the Dana cup in Denmark.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very collaborative style to teaching as I firmly believe a question is best answered when one understands clearly what is being asked and what is required. I am a very patient individual and look to find ways in which others learn effectively and implement them into my approach.
