Personal Description:
I'm Pauline, and I specialise in French and biology. It sounds an odd combination, but read on and I'll tell you more.

For French - I'm half French and am fluent in the language having started with "survival French" at the age of five to stop my cousins from persecuting me, and then studying it at both GCSE (A* grade) and A-level (A grade). I go to France regularly and enjoy reading news articles in French. For lessons, I usually mix in reading, speaking, listening and grammar, as well as some history, geography and French current affairs to bring it to life. I am also available to practice speaking French, to improve your accent. I can teach both students for exam prep and adults if you're going to France and need some help with asking for directions and a coffee/glass of wine!

For biology - I again studied at GCSE and A-level and then did three degrees in the general field of biology! My PhD was in biomechanics so I specialise in biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, muscle and exercise science and cardiovascular; but feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you need. I can even teach plant science! I have worked with GCSE and A-level students for many years and am familiar with most common exam board questions. I am happy to go through past papers for exam practice. I have most experience with AQA exam board questions but can easily adapt to other boards.

I'm patient and friendly and use a flexible approach so you learn at your speed. Having obtained my PhD, I can relate to students and the specific pressures they face. I am DBS checked and can supply references on request.

Lessons are £25 per hour per person and £40 for two hours, including travel in and around Newcastle. There will be a small charge to cover my fuel for a longer drive, but I'm happy to discuss.

I may not be the cheapest but I'm experienced, patient, friendly and flexible - I'd rather be good than cheap!

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2008, working with a variety of ages and in a range of topics from French tuition to sports coaching. I have taught over 30 students, both school students and adults, and have excellent references.

Tutoring Approach:

I will work closely with you to achieve your goals, if that's to improve in the subject for its own sake, to pass an exam or even to be able to order in French at a restaurant. During the first session we'll agree on a timetable and set specific goals. We'll set aside a few minutes during each subsequent session to assess our progress. I am patient, friendly and reliable and above all I love teaching!

Personal Description:
I am a professional actor and graduate from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have been working in the private tuition industry for over seven years for various agencies, most prominently The Tutors Group. Before drama school I worked as a Primary School teaching assistant and drama teacher for two years, after graduating from King's College London with a 2:1 in my BA (Hons) English Literature & Language degree. I went straight to university from Norwich High School for Girls in Norfolk. So I have travelled all the way across England in my pursuit of study! I always wanted to tutor because I knew how I worked for all my GCSEs, A-Levels and my BA, and I was fed up with the media claiming exams were getting easier for kids: teenagers today work super hard, as I did! Tutoring older students also provided a lovely contrast to my Primary School teaching. I am also on the Directory certified teachers for LAMDA examinations.

Teaching Experience:

Dog Kennel Hill Primary School
Teaching Assistant and Special Needs Support
Oct 2008 - Present

During the morning session, I am currently working in a Year One class in this south London school and thriving on aiding the children specifically with their literacy, reading and speaking skills as well as exploring numeracy work.
I lead certain lessons including story time and circle time.
I support key groups of children within the class and am able to use my initiative to plan, deliver and assess their learning in order to encourage progression.
I have vast experience in creating my own resources using ICT, and creating artistic displays to proudly exhibit the children's work.
I have taken courses in Early Literacy Support, encouraging creative and inclusive teaching especially for children with English as an additional language and complex special needs children. I also have training in "Letters and Sounds" Phonics, and "A First Workshop on Autism".
During the afternoon session, I support a child in Year Two with Autism. I plan and prepare all his lessons, working towards targets which I and the class teacher have set for him; these include phonics, counting and social skills. I use music as a reward system for the boy, and his singing has greatly improved his speech quality and communication skills.
I have extensive training in Autistic Spectrum Conditions, undertaken with Southwark, covering various aspects including history, sensory integration and behavioural management.
I work with various children with complex special needs within school, including children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Galactosemia, and have worked closely with speech and language therapists and learning mentors.
I offer one to one support outside of lesson time in the form of music lessons for special needs children; I prepare and provide my own resources and find singing with my students extremely rewarding.
I am in the process of setting up an after-school drama club for Key Stage One students at the school, having directed the infant school Christmas play this and last year.
I have also spent time in Key Stage Two classrooms, focussing on aiding older children with their literacy skills: I particularly enjoyed aiding Year Six students in exploring literary themes and using appropriate critical vocabulary when studying children's literature.

Stage Coach Theatre Arts
Early Years and Drama Teacher
Jan 2009 - Present
I am currently working in the Beckenham Junction branch of Stage Coach: using games and prepared resources, I teach my Early Stages children elementary levels of dance, drama and singing, allowing them to develop their confidence levels both on and off the stage. I have written and directed several productions for the children to perform over the year, showcasing their talents to their proud parents.
Since September I have taken on the role of drama teacher for the elder children aged six to sixteen. Through games, improvisation and text work, my students are encouraged to enjoy and improve their passion and talent for theatre in an open and safe environment.

The Tutors Group
Private Tutor
Sep 2008 - Present
In contrast to my primary school teaching experience, my private tutoring allows me to help young people of an older age and greater intellectual development further their learning.
I teach English Literature and Language, History, Theatre Studies and Classical Studies, from Primary, to GCSE and A-Level, Degree level and beyond.
I aid my students in improving their essay structure, spelling and grammar and discussing key thematic and conceptual elements of their required texts.
I plan and prepare lessons and constantly assess students, ensuring they receive high quality tutorage.

Classroom Teachers
Teaching Assistant
Sep 2008 - Oct 2008
I received thoroughly positive feedback from the schools in which I temporarily taught in the weeks preceding my permanent employment at Dog Kennel Hill; colleagues reported me as reliable, enthusiastic and hard-working, and possessing excellent interaction skills with the children themselves.
I gained vast experience with nursery and reception children, thriving on working with early years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have worked as a private tutor for various agencies and also independently, leading my students through 11 plus, 13 plus, GCSE, A Level, Degree level and beyond. I teach English Literature & Language, Drama & Theatre Studies, History and Classics. I also have plenty of experience in working with much younger students (see my CV for details of my classroom and teaching assistant experience) with English as an additional language. I am a confident and enthusiastic individual, with an acute passion for teaching, and have been working with the Tutors Group for over 7 years now. I have worked as a teaching assistant in an Outstanding inner-city primary school, and before training at drama school was planning to take a post-graduate course in primary school teaching, a desire much encouraged by my class teacher and head of school. I have just graduated from my MA in acting at one of the most prolific drama schools in the country (Bristol Old Vic Theatre School); as an experienced dramatic performer and director, I enjoy effectively using these skills to aid children in their learning, leading to a warm, encouraging and happy learning atmosphere. I rapidly and easily create positive, personal relationships with colleagues and children, and believe education should be a creative and inclusive experience for all.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Lucinda and I have worked as a primary school teacher for the last eight years. I am enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and enjoy the satisfaction it brings.
I enjoy all things creative and try to inject creativity into my teaching wherever possible.
I have a passion for sport and when I am not teaching I can be found rowing on the Thames, at the gym or watching a game of rugby. My other interests include going to the theatre, live music and reading.

Teaching Experience:

I work in an outer London primary school as a class teacher and have done so for the last eight years. In that time I have taught in Reception (age 3-4)), Year 2 (age 6-7) and I currently teach in Year 1 (age 5-6). I have also tutored children working in Key Stage Two, helping to build confidence and close the gap in their learning on a one to one basis.
Throughout my teaching career I have worked with children with varying needs and abilities. My teaching is adapted to suit these learning needs and help children to reach their full potential. I have high expectations of all children I teach and enjoy helping them to make learning fun and enjoyable.

Tutoring Approach:

When teaching is fun, learning is easy.
Children learn when lessons have been planned with their particular needs in mind. Learning occurs when teaching is fun, well thought out and relevant to them. I see the most progress in children's learning when they are fully engaged and the learning has a purpose. I tailor lessons around these elements and enjoy seeing what children can actually achieve when the right learning environment has been created for them.
When teaching and tutoring, I encourage children to explore ideas, make connections, reflect on their learning while all the time I question them, helping to develop their higher order thinking skills.

Personal Description:
I have recently graduated with a First Class in BSc Mathematics and am currently training to be a Maths teacher, focusing on KS4 and KS5.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently training to be a Secondary Mathematics Teacher. I have experience giving KS3, KS4 and first year undergraduate Maths tuition. I have worked as a Mathematics Outreach Ambassador, working with primary and secondary school students, and running Mathematics workshops and masterclasses.
I also give instrumental and vocal tuition to students of a variety of ages and abilities. I hold an enhanced DBS (new version of enhanced CRB).

Tutoring Approach:

I am a very friendly and patient. I have a flexible approach to tutoring, adapting to suit the students way of learning and best address their weaker areas. In my first few lessons I aim to give students tasks that they can understand and complete within the lesson, building their confidence in their abilities. This lays the foundations to progress on to more difficult topics, and develop the students own ability and skills set, so they can begin to tackle new, unfamiliar areas of the topic themselves.

Personal Description:
Postgraduate Student.

I am a twenty-one year old postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential and understand the tricky bits of their material which is escaping their understanding. I am a Canadian studying abroad here in Glasgow and therefore do not have GCSEs or A levels, but I have the equivalent levels from Canadian institutions with top marks. I tutor best in history, my chosen subject, English or French as a second language, and maths, which I not only did well in during secondary school, but all of which I have also studied at the University level. I get along very well with students of all ages and try to make the tutoring experience a fun an interesting one for any student.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring 1 on 1
ESL teaching (Group sizes from 5-12)
Age range of experience: 7-18 year olds

I have several years of teaching experience in different settings and with different age groups. I've taught English as a Second Language in a camp setting which ran lessons similar to classroom lessons every morning. I had to design my own approaches to various topics which gave me a lot of practice in making studying and learning interesting and easier for children who were less interested or struggling. I also tutored on a private basis for primary school-aged children through the medium of French and English in reading and writing skills as well as the general subjects at that age. I have tutored at the secondary school level in Maths, English, French, Sciences, and History. I have also been a teaching assistant at the University level for both Irish and Scottish Gaelic second language courses as well as a general Celtic World knowledge course.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning should be fun.
Aim is to help student learn how they understand instruction so that they are more confident in their own abilities and can perform better in the future.
Use past work to improve on future work.

Learning should be fun and I strive to make the tutoring experience less about school work and more about understanding the ways in which what is being taught is of interest to the student. Finding ways to improve the student's understanding and learning experience sometimes means approaching the material in a different way than is being taught in class. Teachers understand that not all student learn the same way but cannot always deliver their teaching in all these ways. By helping the student understand the material first and then explaining the method the teacher used to explain it first allows the student to reach their full potential, understand the material, and go back to class with a better chance following the teacher's instruction.

All of this is done in a light-mannered way that does not make the child feel as though tutoring is a punishment for not understanding in class, but rather, a (sometimes lengthy) temporary situation until the student becomes more confident about his or her own skills!

Using the student's own work is an important tool for helping them recognize their own areas of difficulty and should be used again as mock exams to help the student see tangible proof of their improvements. The best understanding of any subject comes from watching it being done/having it explained, doing it oneself, and then teaching it in turn.

Personal Description:
I am a 32 year old female. I have worked with children for a number of years now in the mainstream high school setting. I'm always studying myself, I have completed a basic counselling skills course and art-it's place in therapy course.

I'm currently working within a mainstream high school as a communication support worker, for students on the autism spectrum. I am enthusiastic and passionate about education. I want to support my students to achieve their full potential.

I am available during school holidays for tutoring during the day, or evenings and weekends.

Teaching Experience:

I started working with inclusion doing art projects with students who have behaviour difficulties; then went on to be a teaching assistant supporting all academic areas on the curriculum with children aged 10-17. I can differentiate work down to very low levels and am aware of the current curriculum. I have worked with students of many abilities and was a key worker for a child who's Downs Syndrome.
I still work in mainstream but I'm now a specialist in autism, working with children on the autistic spectrum daily. I am aware of the challenges my students face with accessing work on the curriculum as well as the social side of things.

I have also supported my school by covering art lessons and helping students with coursework and homework.

I offer tutoring in the following areas:
-Reading & Writing Skills: reading feedback and writing for coursework (essay, report, article for publication, research)

-Study skills: how to read critically and how to write, making presentations, etc.

-Art: Acrylic painting, Drawings and Rendering, Making Physical and 3D Models and crafts, Sketch book, Design Portfolio ( to help developing your portfolio for college or university interviews)

-Special needs: Differentiation for any subject up to GCSE/A'level and within the arts at university level working with students on homework, coursework and presentations who have learning difficulties.

Tutoring Approach:

I always wanted to be an art teacher, that's why I went to university, but over the years working in a school I realised what I could achieve by remaining at the support level. I can give more of my time to small groups and 1:1, a lot more than a teacher can as I don't have all the paperwork and other commitments to many students that they have.

My aim as a tutor is to make art accessible and give my students confidence. Over the years I've seen lots of students feel like their work isn't good enough; I can support them by teaching the basic skills and building on their existing knowledge.

I am a very patient & positive tutor who can explain concepts in a way which can be understood by my students.

Report: Jon has been tutoring my son this year for his physics A-level.
I can honestly say that he is the best tutor I have encountered.
He is dedicated to his work, has always arrived when expected and is thoroughly prepared both for the individual lesson but also with a scheme of work for the months ahead to ensure that the syllabus is covered.
His communication is excellent and he keeps in regular contact providing information each week on the lesson ahead but also feedback after each lesson.
My son found Jon interesting, knowledgeable and able to explain even the most difficult concepts he even requested an extra lesson prior to the exam as he found the sessions so helpful.
I can recommend him without hesitation.

Thank you jon for your kind words. Lewis has grown in confidence in the past year with your help and he as always said that he enjoys and understands your way of teaching. I would not hesitate to recommend you as a physics tutor to anyone I know. We also are going to miss you and William (Pet dog) off course even though you sometimes disturbed him from watching his favourite programs. Take care to you and your family and your little doggy. I will keep in touch and let you know how Lewis got on. Thanks again

Hi Jon
Thank you very much. It's always lovely when people say nice things about your children!
I have to say that both myself and Matthew have been incredibly impressed by you and your enthusiasm, preparation and encouragement. The fact that Matthew arranged the extra lesson this week is testament to this!
I know he can be a bit uncommunicative at times but he has told me how helpful the sessions have been.
I don't know if he told you but he has decided to have a gap year and personally I think he probably needs it to really work out what he wants to do. I think this has taken the pressure off him and I can honestly say he has been happier and worked harder since he made this decision.
If anything it has made him more focused about getting the best grades he can.
Thank you once again for all your efforts, we shall keep you informed!

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring A Level AQA Physics

Over 20 students tutored in the past 2 years

2 years working as a Private tutor for A level Physics students (1977-79)

1 year teaching Physics to A level students at a Ladies Grammar school in Manchester (1979)

2 years teaching A level Physics at the Trafford Park College of Further Education - Stretford, Manchester (1977-79)

4 years at Sheffield Hallam University (2000 - 2004) working with Graduates and Post Graduate Students in Entrepreneurship and Business Enterprise

Tutoring Approach:

Dr Jon P Harris BSc (2:1) Hons. Pure and Applied Physics; PhD: Low Temperature Physics; MBA: Finance and International Business

2017-2018 academic year: My program will provide the basis of all student with ability in "the Sciences and Mathematics" subjects (A's at GCSE level) to provide the opportunity to obtain the top grade in AS/A2 physics

The 'timetable' and order by which each part of the syllabus will be approached will follow the AQA examination board's timetable. For students joining after the commencement of the academic year, those parts of the syllabus already covered will be 'returned to' during the 'revision period' after Easter

My tutoring sessions are always: 2 hours. They can be taken either:

1. Once per week: full coverage of the syllabus (AS/A2: including Options) plus significant time, each week, devoted to answering questions based on past papers

2. Once per two weeks: full coverage of the syllabus (AS/A2: including Options) plus time, each week, devoted to answering questions based on past papers

In addition to having the 'physics abilities', students will need to understand how to approach examinations and examination questions. There are different variations, each year, but with detailed subject knowledge and significant practice on exam style and past paper questions there should be no type of exam question that should cause any concerns to any student

To ensure a top grade (A/A*) the student will need to commit to additional study, over and above these two hour sessions:

Subject notes will be provided each week, in advance of the lesson, covering the topic to be covered during the lesson - the student will be expected to have already gained an "overview" of the subject area prior to the lesson commencing and take additional notes during the lesson

Each week, following the lesson, each student should complete sufficient exam style and past paper questions to ensure that they have obtained a comprehensive understanding of the subject area and detailed knowledge of 'typical' exam questions

Additional background reading will also be provided that will reach beyond the syllabus giving a deeper understanding of the "concepts" and "background" of the area of physics being studied - this will ensure clarity on the "physics concepts" that are examined in the final year papers each year

Following each lesson (excluding revision and examination question and answering sessions) the diagrams and other material used during each lesson will be provided, so that the student can compare the information with the notes provided and taken during each lesson - building up a complete 'library' of detailed knowledge on each subject area in the syllabus

It is expected that the student will spend (at least) two hours each week, in addition, to the two hour lesson and all school/college work

NOTE: The work program detailed above should not be at the exclusion of the students 'other subjects' - however much time is allocated to physics each week should be replicated with the student's other subjects

Essential planning:

To be prepared for the end year (A2/AS) examinations it will be important to start preparing early

By Christmas time (2017) each student should have produced an 'outline' revision timetable, covering all subjects - without going into detail here, the plan should include all 'known activities' (school/college/personal holidays, mock exam dates, field trips etc.) and periods allocated to revision of each of your subjects, so that a balanced and comprehensive plan for all subjects will attained

Note - 'downtime' should also be included - students should have a practical and balanced approach to secure the best results possible. Peaking too early or 'brain overload' are recipes for underperformance in examinations

I will assist, as required, throughout the period up to when the end year exams commence - this revision timetable will change over the period until the exams start, with the final months becoming more detailed - it will assist in allocating your 'known' resources

Tutoring style:

My lessons are highly interactive

In addition to the printed notes, the student will be expected to add additional notes of their own during each session

My students are fully engaged in all of the lessons and are expected to interact within the lesson

Worked examples and opportunities for students to complete typical exam questions will be part of every lesson

The lessons are delivered from my widescreen laptop making use of theory, pictures/diagrams, interactive GIFs, short videos to help introduce topics and emphasis on specific core material

On approaching (mock and final year) examinations periods:

1. I provide one session on "examination technique" (following AQA best practice) and adopt a rigorous question answering method to ensure that:

(a) Maximise the marks obtained for all mathematical and comprehensive style questions and

(b) In the event that any of my students fall into a "grade boundary" this question answering methodology will ensure the examiner will recognise the 'knowledge of physics' of my students and should ensure an upward grade where required and

2. Take the students through past examination papers to ensure that each 'style' of AQA question solving is well practiced

Flexibility will always be part of the process - if there are specific areas or concepts the student wishes to spend more time on, this time will be allocated

Personal Description:
Currently i run a small business in which i deliver foot health care services to the community. Recently i graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Masters in Biotechnology (2015) and i have a BSc (Hons) in Natural Sciences from the Open University (2013)

Teaching Experience:

While studying for my degrees I tutored high school students in Biology/Human Biology, with some input from myself and hard work from them they achieved great results and got into the university and course of their choice. Have also been tutoring my own son who struggles with maths skills. While employed by the NHS i worked with semi- pro and amateur athletes who often got injured, part of the treatment plan was to explain why certain exercises aggravated their condition and provide sources for alternatives and give further health education when needed, this mentor/teaching experience was tailored to each individual need.

Tutoring Approach:

Each lesson is tailored to the needs of the individual, will ask questions of the tutee to ensure they have grasped the concept being taught. In subsequent lessons will have a brief revision time to again check that the concepts have been fully understood.

Personal Description:
I am a PhD Candidate at the Glasgow Caledonian University, with Wireless Optical Communication as my area of research. I have earned my Bachelors' and Masters' degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, and have been a top-performer, academically, all throughout my education. My stronghold is basic as well as advanced Mathematics. I am also well-versed with the core concepts of Electronics and wired/wireless Communication.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students for more than 5 years working part-time whilst I was pursuing my bachelors and masters degree. I have taught young students Maths, Science and English. I have also been catering to the needs of students pursuing higher education, specifically in Electrical and Communications engineering, where I helped them out with core concepts of related subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in active learning, a quality which I try to bestow to my students as well. All students have their own way of understanding concepts, and each takes his/her own time to grasp those concepts. I am very patient with all my students and try to explain things in a manner in which they would easily comprehend. I also encourage my students to take down notes, which I believe is an easier and faster way of learning things.
