Personal Description:
I am a 2:1 graduate with a good grounding in both the arts and sciences, as I studied English, German, Maths and Physics at A-level, before gaining my BA in Architecture from UCA - University for the Creative Arts (formerly the Kent Institute of Art & Design). I now work as a freelance Sinhalese interpreter and Buddhist teacher / meditation group leader. In my spare time I'm an amateur singer-songwriter.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach adults early Buddhist philosophy, as well as how to meditate. I have also led occasional meditation groups for primary school children as part of their Religious Education lessons, and have tutored children to improve their Maths ability for their 11+ exam.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm always friendly and encouraging, and am good at helping students understand concepts by using examples, illustrations and provoking discussion. Several adults who I teach Buddhism and meditation to are foreign nationals with poor English; so I communicate clearly, using stories and anecdotes, with lots of eye contact, facial expressions and hand gestures to get my message across.

Personal Description:
I'm twenty three and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm currently studying Graduate Entry Medicine at the University of Southampton, having completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).

Teaching Experience:

During my GCSE preparation period, and during the exam time also, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I would be very willing to do any type of Key Stage 2, 3 or GCSE Mathematics or Statistics teaching for a person of any age.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 5 - adult, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have helped students to reach required grades, supplementing class teaching, catching up on missed lessons, improving old Maths skills and more recently as a standalone teacher of the entire GCSE syllabus. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills and I have a lot of experience in helping students to believe in themselves!

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for four years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

************** "Outstanding Contribution to Student Tutoring" Award ***************

I was 1 of 5 students to receive the Warwick Volunteers Award in 2015 out of over 2000 volunteers.
I received the following nomination from one of the teachers at The Westwood Academy:

"I would like to nominate Karishma as an outstanding volunteer. She has worked at the school over the last three years with our sixth form students. Karishma has worked in class as a support for the teacher, in small groups and one to one. Her mathematical ability is excellent but this does not stop her making it accessible to weaker students and inspires them to study mathematics at university. She has been an invaluable asset to our department over the periods of time that she has worked with us. The pupils find her approachable and are not afraid to ask her questions. Karishma makes all pupils feel they are able to achieve in mathematics at A level. The impact of Karishma's work with us has been enormous and students have not been able to achieve the grades they have without her support."

1) Peer-Tutor at the Warwick Mathematics Institute: (Term 1 of the 2014/15 academic year)

I was hired as a peer-tutor for the analysis classes that run during term 1 for the first year Warwick maths students. This role helped me to lay out my mathematics in a presentable, easy to follow format and gained me a deeper understanding of the subject.

2) Maths Tutor at the Warwick Widening Participation Scheme: (October 2014 until June 2015)

I was hired as a maths tutor for two A-level students as part of a "widening participation" scheme by Warwick University, aimed at enabling students from disadvantaged backgrounds to succeed in higher education.

3) Maths Student Tutoring (Warwick Volunteers): (Jan 2013 until June 2015)

Throughout my degree at Warwick, I volunteered at The Westwood Academy school and its sixth form. I started out with helping the secondary school students and then I was given the opportunity to assist the sixth form students with their A-Level maths. I won an award for my work with the A-level students (see above).

4) Registered Maths tutor with "UK tutors": (December 2012 until Present)

5) Maths Mentor at Farnborough Sixth Form College: (September 2011 until May 2012)

During my second year at Farnborough Sixth Form College, I was appointed as a maths workshop mentor. My role involved mentoring A-Level students and assisting them with their difficulties in all mathematics modules.

Tutoring Approach:

In general students come up to me with a list of questions that they are stuck on and we work through them together. However, if a student is completely stuck on a topic, then I am also able to explain it from scratch. It would be helpful if the student could inform me which topics they are stuck on in advance so that I have time to prepare some material for it.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old, head of modern foreign languages, currently working in Alcester, Warwickshire. I am incredibly diligent, organised and devoted to promoting a love of language learning as well as a desire to ensure GCSE students achieve their very best in exams. As a teacher and AQA examiner, I have access to past papers as well as having built up a wide range of teaching resources with which to teach. I am associated with a school wherein AQA is the examining body for Modern Foreign Languages although this does not hinder me as a prospective tutor for those studying under Edexcel or WJEC.
With the new GCSE specification a big priority currently and students entering year 11 in September being the first to go through the new examination process, I believe my skillset, experience in teaching it and association with the examination board makes me a sound investment for any student wishing for the extra support as they approach the final months of their French GCSE.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Modern Foreign Languages for 5 years to GCSE and have recently been appointed head of department. Within my teaching practice, I have had experience of teaching across all levels and abilities from the 11-16 age range in secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring sessions are individually tailored based on the need of the tutee, however sessions usually focus on the key skills of language learning which are listening, reading, speaking and writing. My sessions aim to engage, interact and interest the learner as much as possible.
As the new GCSE specification adds a huge emphasis to spontaneous conversation, my tuition sessions will have a big focus on building confidence in this area.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experienced mother-tongue tutor of English as a Second Language. I have worked in the UK and abroad and am an enthusiastic and motivated professional who loves her job.

I am passionate about lifelong learning and learn something new every year for fun. I am a coffee-drinking, book-reading, cake-loving, walker in the rain. I do yoga every day in the garden to the alarm of the cat next door. I enjoy travel, diverse cultures and meeting new people.

I think that accurate communication is vital. We must understand each other in our global village.

I believe that my role in life is to help people to develop their English skills and communicate without misunderstanding.

And to experience as many different books and cakes as possible in one lifetime…!

Teaching Experience:

I am qualified, experienced and professional English Language tutor (ESOL). I have taught individuals; small classes; large groups; all levels from Beginner to Advanced; exam preparation; CV building; job applications; interview skills; English for specific purposes, eg legal, medical or engineering, I have worked in multi-cultural classes with many different languages. I also taught in Sicily where all students shared a common language. I have high exam pass rates and excellent student retention rates.

Tutoring Approach:

Stress free! I believe that you must be relaxed to learn a language successfully. My focus is always on the needs of the individual student at that moment. I encourage, motivate and build confidence so that students can go easily and quickly into the real world and use their English skills without hesitation. I hold students accountable so that there is a real sense of progress from lesson one. I establish rapport easily and am reliable with a good sense of humour.

Personal Description:
I like helping people improve their maths and Spanish skills.

I enjoy maths, it can be a fun subject to learn (yes really!). I find interesting and fun ways to explain how maths works and then get the pupil to work through questions and problems until they know each step very well.

I specialise in teaching maths at A level and first year university level. I also teach GCSE level.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching either one-to-one, or small groups of students for the last 5 years. While I lived in Spain I would teach English to children and adults, as well as teaching A level and University level maths to Spanish students through the medium of Spanish. In the last year I have also started teaching Spanish here in the UK, always trying to pass on my enthusiasm for languages to my students.

I make the lessons as interesting and as fun as possible, as well as making sure my pupils are good enough at each step before they move on.

Personal Description:
I am a former primary and secondary school teacher, mainly teaching all the science subjects. I have tutored my son and daughter in the science subjects straight from KS3 through to A-level, especially in biology. Therefore, I have gained extensive knowledge of the sciences, covering a range of exam boards, and also experienced first hand the exam technique needed to achieve the target grade. I would like to transfer this knowledge of biology and revision methods to others who need it, and I am committed to encouraging students to achieve the best grades possible.

I am extremely familiar with the GCSE biology syllabuses and regularly remain up to date with changes in specification and exam dates.

I can also do Maths tutoring for those at the primary school level, and Hindi language tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring multiple students in primary level maths and english, and also GCSE Biology
Former primary and secondary school teacher

Tutoring Approach:

I like to take an interactive approach to the lessons, where topics are taught through quizzes and questions, which allows me to identify topics the student might find challenging. I explain subjects comprehensively, and often recommend making revision posters as a good way to remember a lot of information, especially with GCSE level subjects.
I also enjoy tutoring younger children of infant and primary level in literacy and numeracy.
