Personal Description:
I graduated in 2011 with a degree in Classics at Cambridge University as a mature student. I am passionate about Latin and Greek and Ancient History. I have also attended a courses in New Testament Greek at the University of Cambridge's Institute of Continuing Learning.

I learned Latin and Greek at school up to O' Level but a few years ago I decided that I could no longer do without any Classics in my life and began to study at degree level, first with the Open University where I gained a Dip Class and subsequently at Cambridge University for a B.A and M.A.

Teaching Experience:

In my previous career one of my positions was as a Staff Training Officer with the Department of Employment where I trained adults in job related skills. Most recently I managed a counselling and advice centre in the voluntary sector where my counselling role involved working with young people.

I have current students studying Latin and Ancient Greek.

I ALSO OFFER PREPARATION FOR OXBRIDGE INTERVIEWS.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is student-centred, focusing on what the student's needs are whilst at the same time having a clear goal in mind. Latin and Greek inevitably involve learning grammar but I like to get students to read adapted texts as soon as possible so that there is a real sense of achievement.

If students are already learning Latin and Greek in another context my aim is to make sure that I support that learning. I aim to ensure that they have a good understanding of what they are learning at school (or elsewhere) by consolidating grammar and providing lots of practice which builds confidence.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old Masters student taking a career break from advertising to study full time in an area I am passionate about - International Development, at SOAS in London. I previously graduated from the University of Manchester in 2010, where I studied French and Spanish as a Joint Honours, and received a 2:1 with a Distinction in spoken Spanish. I have lived and worked full time in Paris and Argentina for 1 year as a part of my degree. I also studied Portuguese for 2 years at University and received a High First at Intermediate level. I love languages and take great pleasure in passing on this enthusiasm to others!

Teaching Experience:

-I was a teacher's assistant for the head of the French department at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in June 2010. I assisted in teaching Years 7 and Upper Six, and all years in between with class sizes ranging from 6 to 32. I attended 12 hours of training on behavioral management, how to engage pupils and effective teaching prior to this placement which prepared me well.
-I informally taught English as a foreign language to French, Spanish and Portuguese adults on a weekly basis for 2 years whilst studying languages at university, as language exchanges.
-I have tutored Spanish and Chemistry GCSE students through this site with positive results, references available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a professional, friendly tutor with great enthusiasm for learning. Can tutor to boost student's level, or help to prepare for exam deadlines. For GCSEs, A-Levels, University exams or personal deadlines, we can work out a learning plan to fit the student's requirements. Usual areas to work on are reading/writing/listening/speaking skills. I have my own material (films, tv clips, music) to supplement the student's own if needed for languages.

I look forward to hearing from you,
Lucy

Personal Description:
Hello! I am Rossella, I am Italian and I moved to London 11 years ago. Italian is my mother-tongue but I am perfectly fluent in English. I have a Diploma in languages (Liceo Linguistico, Mantova, Italy) and a degree in Economics and Tourism (University of Bologna, Italy). Now I am a full-time mum of two boys who are growing up speaking both Italian and English.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a tutor since moving to London, mainly one to one and also small groups (max 3 people).
I have been registered with UKtutors for 4 years now. Through UKtutors I have been teaching Italian to adults only, most of them beginners. I am very proud of what my students have achieved and are still achieving. Most of them only knew few words and are now able to hold a proper conversation in Italian. I have also been working with young people studying for their A-level and university students.

Tutoring Approach:

Since each student has their individual way of learning, I think it's important to discuss it at the very beginning in order to make sure that the tutoring is efficient and enjoyable. For example, there are some students that learn better by listening and repeating and others that need to write and read to learn the language; therefore each lesson is organised around the student's needs and learning skills. Both grammar and conversation are essential to learn and improve the language.
I also offer lessons purely based on travel, focusing on all aspects that tourists traveling to Italy are interested in, such as booking hotels and restaurants, asking for directions, being able to use public transports.

I teach students of all ages and abilities, including those with SEN (special educational needs). In a classroom situation, on a one to one basis or as part of a small group.

I have extensive knowledge of the curriculum taught in years 7-11 and excellent resources, including past exam papers.

Teaching Experience:

I teach GCSE Maths to students who need extra help to reach their targets, this can be in a classroom situation or as part of a small group.
I also run intervention groups in tutor time and after school that offer extra help to GCSE students before their exams.

Tutoring Approach:

I get a great deal of a satisfaction from working with students and helping them become more confident in a subject they quite often dislike because they find it difficult.
I have a very calm and patient manner as I want to build a good relationship with my students and for them to feel relaxed.
After assessing the student I set realistic goals for them so they feel they are achieving, each student is different and learns at a different rate, the important thing is for them to make the progress they are capable of.
