Personal Description:
My first teaching job was in Kenya when I was 19, and since then I have taught English in Mexico, Brazil, Japan and England. My students have ranged from 4 to 94, and from beginners to doctors and academic researchers, focusing on conversation, business, or exams, depending on the student's needs.

I have a passion for language, whether listening to strangers on the bus or exploring grammatical structures, and my students pick up my enthusiasm and enjoyment.

I have written a book on psychology, linguistics and science, edited children's books and academic texts, and worked as a translator of both Portuguese and Japanese.

My BSc is in Life Sciences with the History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine, and I am interested in nearly everything, except football and cars.

Teaching Experience:

2010-present: ESL teacher, language coach for academics, and private tutor to Japanese kids.

2006-2010: Private English tutor (in MG, Brazil).

2001-2005: High School teacher and private tutor (in Kyoto, Japan)
1999-2001: Elementary and Junior High School English teacher, also special needs class (in Fukushima, Japan).

1997: Teacher for tortillas and lodging in the jungle (in Chiapas, Mexico)

1995: Volunteer school teacher of English, Science & Maths (in rural Kenya)

Tutoring Approach:

I use only English in my lessons, encouraging my students to speak as much as possible, and to correct their own or each other's errors wherever possible.

My emphasis is on fluency, natural language and confidence, so when teaching grammar or considering problems, the student can refer to concrete examples in their heads, rather than abstract formulae in textbooks.

I use a broad range of materials, techniques, and situations, setting high standards and pushing my students to work hard towards accuracy and creativity in English.

Though I am happy teaching one-to-one, I find that a group of two to four students can be more dynamic, more relaxed, and a better environment for free expression and mutual correction. If you agree, I might invite you to join a class of students at a similar level, which makes the lesson much more economical for you.

Personal Description:
I am Philosophy Graduate with a passion for ideas and critical thinking. I have written articles for a variety of blogs and delivered lectures to an academic audience.

In the past I have also worked in as a freelance musician and an IT technician.

Everything I do is influenced by my passion for ideas and my desire to convey them to others, a conscientious work ethic and lively sense of humour.

Teaching Experience:

Although this is my first foray into academic tutoring, I have previously taught Judo at senior and junior levels. In addition, I have been responsible for helping people improve their IT skills when I worked for The Department For Work and Pensions.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to meet every individual where they are in their journey of learning, rather than impose preconceived ideas on them. I try and find out how each student learns and in light of this tailor my teaching to fit them.

I always try to keep things fun and interesting as people achieve more when they are engaged an excited. I avoid pointless jargon and needless technicality.

Personal Description:
I am a First Class Psychology and Sociology graduate from the University of Cambridge (2012-2015).

Teaching Experience:

I undertook a 6 month teaching placement in Port Elizabeth, South Africa at a mixed secondary school in 2012. Here I taught students from ages 12-19 in both English Language & Literature, and Life Orientation.

Since leaving university I have run numerous study technique sessions with students of all ages. In addition, I regularly tutor various students at both A-Level and GCSE in a variety of essay based subjects.

I have also run workshops and seminars at secondary schools, colleges, and universities to teach students how to study more effectively through mastering their mindset.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise in study skills and techniques after undergoing a dramatic transformation in how I approached studying myself during my third year of university. After two years of being a low-mid 2i student at Cambridge I changed my entire approach to study through developing a number of study tips/tricks/hacks rooted in the science of Positive Psychology.

Students who often need tutoring are not those lacking in intelligence. For many not reaching their true potential it is their mindset and approach to learning that lets them down.

This is where I come in- I share my story of how in my third year I actually started working fewer hours, stopped getting stressed out, and completely changed my relationship with learning and education.

My tutoring is just as much about coaching- the last thing a student wants is another educator telling them what to do. I simply provide them with the tools to make dramatic changes and challenge them to apply these techniques themselves.

Areas I specialise in include:
- Fostering Positive Study Habits
- Eliminating Distractions & Increasing Focus
- Stress Reduction & Redirection
- Mastering Time Management
- Conscious Note Taking
- Perfecting Exam Technique

Personal Description:
Hello. I am a teacher with an MA in History, an MA in Creative Writing and a degree in Politics and History. I am also a published playwright and poet. I have been teaching part time in an English department at a University for the last four years as well as working as a private tutor. Prior to that I was a writer in residence in a young offenders institution using creative writing and drama to improve the literacy, thinking and behaviour of young prisoners. In 2014 I ran writing and drama workshops in a women's prison in New Zealand. I have worked widely in youth theatre and have written a popular text book on creative writing. My drama has been produced on stage and radio in the UK, Australia and most recently the US. I've also directed for theatre, most recently at Watford Palace Theatre. As well as a teacher, I have been a youth justice worker and a careers adviser. You can find out more about my work at website and blog.

Teaching Experience:

During the last academic year (2014 - 2015) I successfully tutored a local A level History student. This academic year (2015 -2016) I have tutored A level and GCSE English and am currently tutoring two GCSE History students. For the last two years I have taught creative writing (poetry, drama, short fiction) part time at Sheffield Hallam University; from 2012-2014, poetry at Edge Hill University. I have also guest lectured in History and Criminology.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to initially assess my student's strengths and weaknesses. Then to break the learning curve down into key objectives or units. Then to set a realistic time frame to achieve set goals. Always in mind is the objective of achieving an eventual good pass in the subject. I tutor online using skype as well as in person.

Personal Description:
I have just recently finished my A-Levels and I am looking to help support others in the studies, especially GCSE and A-level. I completed AS Maths, Further maths, Chemistry and Physics and continued on to complete Maths, Chemistry and Physics. I am a mother so tutoring at my address is preferable but I am able to travel locally.

Teaching Experience:

I have no solid teaching experience. However, I did do a mentoring group with a year 6 pupil with their transition into high school as well as tutor some AS level students in maths, chemistry and physics whilst studying for my own A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I would approach tutoring by asking firstly what subject, exam board and level the student needs tutoring in. I would then ask as to what topic in the subject they find easiest and which they find hardest. I would then start with the easier topics to get a basis of their understanding as well as boost their confidence. After that I would slowly progress into the harder topics as well as doing past exam papers, some together going through questions in details and some timed and in exam conditions so they can get the exam experience.
