Personal Description:
I'm an extremely strong mathematician, scoring top grades through school (including scoring 300/300 in my AS Level Further Maths), and went on to a heavily maths-based degree in Civil Engineering with Management. I'm a GCSE Maths Examiner, so I know exactly what is required to get your target grade.

Aside from teaching Maths, I've had a wide range of experiences - I've helped set up an community project in my friend's village in Tanzania and have taught some of our sponsored students out there.

I'm currently the primary carer for my baby daughter in the week, so I am doing tutoring around this in the evenings and weekend when my wife is home from work.

Teaching Experience:

* Teaching and working with young people as a volunteer or professionally since 2004.

* Qualified as a Maths teacher in 2006, and taught in numerous secondary schools, ranging from very challenging schools through to a high performing grammar school and a private school (including teaching IGCSE as well as normal GCSE).

* Have taught the full ability range from low ability Year 7 through to A Level Further Maths.

* GCSE Maths Examiner since March 2012.

* Tutoring 9-18 year olds since April 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm keen to help pupils understand how maths works, and not simply learn a standard set of instructions to follow to reach the "right" answer.

With the new changes coming to Maths GCSE, having a good understanding is more important than ever - students simply cannot get by on rote-learning the method alone any more. Students need to be able to explain their answer clearly, and I make sure I incorporate this into my lessons.

Of course, approach will vary substantially depending on the student.

Students who are very close to their exams will need more focus on how to get the best result.

With younger students there will be more opportunity to focus on their understanding, and exploring how Maths works. I try to avoid simply teaching "How To Get The Right Answer To This Particular Type Of Exam Question", which might get them through tests in the short term, but is rather less helpful to them in the long term.

As a tutor I'd be choosing the most appropriate approach for the student.

Although I specialise in Maths, I am more than comfortable with science, and can also help students up to secondary school level in this subject. I will also do English with Maths at primary level.

GROUP DISCOUNTS:
* 5 discount per student if working in a pair.
* 10 discount per student in groups of 3 or more.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Rhea and I love to teach. I am most excited about Art as this is my passion (I am currently working as a Graphic Designer). I also really enjoy learning about science (in particular neuroscience and psychology). I find astrology fascinating and so am both creative and a bit nerdy.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in both primary and secondary schools as a teaching assistant. This was primarily in art in the secondary school, teaching children how to draw and use various materials to create great artwork. In primary school, I have helped teach literacy, numeracy, phonics, reading, science and art. During these experiences I have found ways of explaining new information to children so they can apply it without supervision. I also have worked in various school holiday clubs, so I relate very well to children.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is individualistic - each person has their own learning style and it is important to understand which way a student learns best. Some people are kinaesthetic learners, others are verbal and some have an amazing ability to memorize information. I am personally a hands on learner, but I am able to adapt to various techniques for students. I am friendly and personable and think it is important to develop a good relationship with tutees.

Personal Description:
I'm 49 years old and I've worked with children and young people in various settings since I was a teenager myself. This includes youth camps/expeditions for children from deprived backgrounds and musical evenings in half-way houses for young people with emotional problems. I've also worked full-time for 17 years with children with learning difficulties, Autism, and challenging behaviour in both special schools and in a community outreach role.

I have recently graduated with first class honours in Geoscience, and I'm very interested in science in general, ever keen to learn more about the world/universe from a rational perspective. I love to travel, combining meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures, along with new environments, different animals and different rocks! I also love music and to play the piano, guitar and ukulele.

I am positive, calm, patient, adaptable and responsive to individual needs and enjoy supporting people to overcome their challenges.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to my youth work experience, I lived in Seville for nearly 3 years, teaching English as a foreign language, mainly to young adults in a language school and in 1:1 private tutoring. Within my experience in special schools I have taught pupils on a one to one basis and taken small groups.

Tutoring Approach:

In my experience both as a teacher and from my varied learning experiences, self-esteem and confidence is the most important basis for successful learning, combined with actually enjoying the experience. I endeavour to enhance both. I adapt my approach and strategies to meet the needs of each individual.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and experienced teacher with a real passion for languages. This has led me to travel widely within Europe and amass a great deal of experience of other cultures. That and my belief in 'having a go' at communicating has led me to learn the basics of quite a few languages and given me plenty of material for (short) 'instructional anecdotes', based on various scrapes and international misunderstandings! Languages should be fun and we should never be afraid to try them out! My other passion is music - a truly international language - and I enjoy my weekly instrumental lessons and playing with my local (amateur) orchestra.

Teaching Experience:

I hold degree level qualifications in English, French, Spanish and German and have over 30 years' experience of teaching languages, in both private and state schools and Sixth Form and Further Education colleges, where I have prepared students for a range of examinations and other qualifications. I have particular expertise in helping students bridge the gap between GCSE and AS level - and I love grammar! I have also worked as a private tutor and as a provider of courses and interpreting services for local businesses. My students have ranged in age from 8 to 80-plus. I teach Spanish and French to A level and can also offer German and Italian to intermediate level and basic introductory courses in Russian and Latin. I also offer conversational English for speakers of other languages.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons can be in my home or at a venue of your choice, within a 5-mile radius. I can travel further afield, but would need reasonable time and travel expenses. I can offer day-time or evening lessons, any day of the week. My hourly rate is 25, though I also offer lessons of 30 or 50 minutes (pro rata). The same rate applies irrespective of the group size. Tutoring can be 1-to-1, small-group or, if you can provide a suitable venue, in a group of up to 15. I can offer intensive tuition or courses of various lengths (though exam candidates must make their own arrangements to sit papers). Alternatively, I can offer coaching and support for those already studying elsewhere. Each course is tailor-made to suit your exact requirements - and I aim to make each lesson fun!

Personal Description:
As a Geographer, my love of the subject has kept me in the classroom for a long time. I am a middle manager with experience of both the English and Scottish school systems. My interest and experience lies in the planning and organization of fieldwork, which has seen me leading groups to a wide variety of UK locations from London to Orkney and abroad to places as far flung as South Africa and the USA as well as regular trips to the continent.
Outwith work, I am a creative sort, making and selling cards, interior designing properties and enjoying visiting new places for inspiration. I offer a spare room to international staff and students so enjoy hosting and meeting new people.

Teaching Experience:

My experience is at all secondary levels with most experience at GCSE level. I currently teach Geography at all secondary levels and participate in termly Citizenship enhancement days for students.
I also have a great deal of experience in the teaching of Travel and Tourism which I taught for 10 years and History and RE which have been on and off my timetable over the years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning is satisfying in itself and this is something which many students have yet to discover. My aim in teaching is for my students to enjoy the process of learning, to learn to take control of their own education and to take pride in their learning and achievements.

In tutoring sessions, I follow a very structured approach:

- In our first session I take an overview of the aims and needs of my student and together we prepare a plan for our time together.
- In each of our lessons we cover a topic of work, discuss and try to solve any problems with work from the student's school/ college and agree on the next week's reading and topic. We also take five minutes to review our progress, referring to our initial plan, and discuss any changes that need to be made to the plan.

Personal Description:
My name is Kieron, and I am a second year Psychology student. I am achieving first class grades so far, and am holding a number of positions within the University in addition to my studies. These include mentoring, research assistant work, lecturer's teaching assistant, along with student representative work and student engagement officer work.

I believe I can break down topics to easy-to-understand segments, and have experience of working with many different people, of varying levels of proficiency within Psychology.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of mentoring 1st and 2nd year Psychology students, on a variety of topics such as biological psychology, cognitive psychology, research methods (using spss), and have delivered guest lectures to 1st year students.
I have also assisted in MSc modules in seminars and workshops.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that no topic too complicated when broken down. Even the most complex processes in the brain can be turned into interesting and manageable topics.

As a current mentor at my university, I appreciate the fact that not all students engage with teachers, and so I believe that my approach can bridge that gap. My grades are high and I know what is required to do well in Psychology, and so I can translate that into tailoring my tutoring to only include the things that will result in higher marks and a deeper understanding of core psychological principles.
