I am currently Assistant Head Teacher at Stoke College, near Sudbury, and have been teaching English for ten years. I am a qualified teacher with 3 years experience of successfully teaching Biology to GCSE and A-Level. Having recently relocated and now living and working in East London, I am looking to tutor at weekends or weekday evenings.

I have an Upper Second Class BSc degree, with Honours, from the University of Leeds in Human Genetics. This course contained a significant amount of Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, further building on my previous qualifications (including 3 A's at A-level, 6 A*s and 5 A's at GCSE).

Additionally, I have had two years experience in industry. This includes 18 months spent working as a project and account manager for a successful biotechnology company, and a further 6 months spent working in a radiotherapy department as an assistant practitioner. Both of these roles heavily involved the application of scientific principles, contributing to the knowledge I hold of the relevance of science to the real world.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years experience teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 Biology at a high achieving well established Church of England School in Bolton. A large percentage of my teaching timetable included teaching Biology to high ability pupils at KS5. In Summer 2015, every single one of my A2 pupils progressed to achieve and/or exceed their target grades, with 7 of my 30 pupils achieving A*s. During this time I worked closely with the Head of Biology to develop schemes of work and resources to help better structure and streamline our teaching of the specification. In order to further enrich the quality of my teaching, I successfully applied to AQA for the position of examiner, and I have just completed my first summer of examining (GCSE). I therefore consider myself to have an up to date knowledge and understanding of current curriculum developments.

I have recently started in the new position as Teacher of Biology a the Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre: an outstanding provider of A Level education based in East London. The college opened in September 2014 and aims to push able local students to enable them to progress to the best and most competitive universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Tutoring Approach:

Biology helps pupils to understand the world around them, inspires their curiosity and encourages them to ask questions. Such thought processes should be nurtured and encouraged by utilising activities and questioning techniques that excite the imagination whilst portraying the relevance and application of science in the wider world.

My approach to tutoring involves teaching beyond the specification, to encourage a thorough, rich understanding of the subject by providing additional details that might be glossed over in the classroom. This allows pupils to make links between topics, enabling them to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar contexts. I will ensure pupils are familiar with the different ways questions can be presented, by utilising past paper questions where neccessary.

I have taught on many aspects of accountancy subjects, these include F6 Taxation, F2 Management accounting, F3 Financial Accounting, F7 Financial Reporting and F8 Audit & Assurance, which are subjects on ACCA syllabus. I have also taught on AAT (to include all units) and ABE syllabus on similar subjects and I posses a profound understanding of my chosen subjects and capable of teaching them effectively.
My excellent understanding of double entry accounting procedures provide me with the basis of dealing with various aspects of reconciliations i.e.; control account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, VAT reconciliation and dealing all aspect of ledger accounts. I also have an excellent understanding of Sage line 50 and 100 and had also used many accounting packages. Recently I worked with East Surrey College on a contract basis teaching Financial Statements, Personal Tax, and Financial Performance (AAT Level 4).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to groom my students in a flexible manner towards passing their exams and ensuring that my lectures are carried out in a friendly and conductive environment that involves every student. I believed that teaching is a social institution as much as it is a profession, hence partnering with my students by becoming one of them provides me that yardstick to which a good relationship between us is established.

The emotional and social (pastoral) platform I created enable free communication between us and giving me that opportunity to gain their trust and their cooperation. The ramification of this is their countenance when they work in the morning and their readiness to discuss issues or their concerns with me.

My approach to teaching is methodical, resulting from the principle of hard working and professional discipline; my scheme of work and lesson plans are well prepared ahead of the start the course and handed over to my students at the very first day of every semester. Also the weekly lesson plans are given to my students one week in advance of the lectures. I always seek to start every topic within a syllabus with a tutorial question that provides student with that rudiment or fundamental principles in which that topic is enshrined.

I like the idea of interactive class, as a result I used questions as a means of communicating my lectures with my students and ensuring every student within the class is involved. I moved from one table to the other and where necessary I dealt with student on a one to one basis if I felt a particular student seemed to be lacking behind. Passing any paper within any accountancy professions require a lot of reading and treating many past questions by students.

Hi, I'm Suzanne and I have over 10 years of experience studying and working in UK universities. I have undergraduate and masters degrees in Psychology, and completed my PhD in Biological Anthropology in 2014. I am interested in all aspects of human evolution ranging from cognition and biology to politics and philosophy. My academic research focuses on comparative cognition - using behavioural studies of other species of primate to gain insight into how modern humans evolved - and included two years of fieldwork with wild primates in Gashaka Gumti National Park in Nigeria.

While I love working with non-human primates, I am also interested in science communication and have worked on projects ranging from ongoing education work with UCL and ZSL London Zoo to stand up comedy to at Edinburgh Festival.

Teaching Experience:

I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and have taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at University College London, including 'Approaches to Knowledge', a foundation module aimed at developing critical thinking and a range of study skills, and 'Evolution and the Human Condition'. The latter is a second year undergraduate course for which I co-wrote the syllabus and taught, covering various aspects of evolutionary theory in biology, chemistry and philosophy.
