Personal Description:
Hello! I am 39 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 13 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I have worked for an independent school in the Rochdale area for over 5 years and have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects and a wide range of ages.

I have an up to date enhanced CRB.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools, private Catholic school and selective high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish linguist I have also taught Spanish to both adults and children in schools and private tuition. I teach Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level. I can also teach English Key Stage 3.

Tutoring Approach:

Students, young and old, don't like subjects they don't think they can succeed in. My approach is to break down material, relate it to everyday life and interests, and positively reinforce all the way to build up confidence. I am stubborn (!) and I don't give up until it's mastered.

Personal Description:
I graduated in July 2012 with a high 2:1 in BA French from the University of Southampton. During this time I also started learning Spanish from scratch. I spent 9 months living in France as part of my degree, and after graduating I lived and worked in Spain for 3 months in order to improve my knowledge of the Spanish language. After living in Spain, I came back to the UK and worked at a translation company as a project manager and then line manager, where I was able to use my languages. Whilst working in this job, I also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Translation in my spare time, studying via distance learning with the University of Bristol. I am now working for the University of London, providing support and development to institutions worldwide.

In my free time I enjoy baking, cycling and travelling.

Teaching Experience:

Whilst on my university year abroad, I taught English at two primary schools in France. This involved lesson planning and teaching classes of up to 28 children. I have also tutored French to a few students in the UK, at both primary and secondary level. Most recently, I tutored French to a secondary school pupil, ahead of his GCSE exams, helping him to significantly improve on his predicted grade. I therefore have experience in teaching a range of subjects through different activities - I thoroughly enjoy giving private face-to-face tuition and watching students learn and increase their confidence in the language.

Tutoring Approach:

I have experience teaching all ages and am therefore able to adapt my teaching method to the student. I believe that it is really important to talk to students in order to gauge exactly what they want to gain out of each session, as well as to determine how best they learn. I have a good knowledge of French grammar and believe it is important to improve all aspects of language: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Personal Description:
My name is Chiara, I am 24 and I am Italian. I graduated from my hometown university (Universitą degli Studi di Palermo) in Classics and I was awarded my Master of Arts in Classics at the University of London (intercollegiate UCL, KCL, RHUL). I live in Guildford but I am willing to travel to London (not too far from Waterloo or easily reachable from there).
My relationship with Latin&Greek is a long one: I have studied these languages (and the cultures they belong to) for more than 10 years. My BA dissertation was in fact the first Italian edition of a group of philosophical Greek letters.
I have studied as well my mother language, Italian, at undergraduate level (literature and linguistics) and I am qualified, for the Italian system, to teach it.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored high school pupils and adults for three years while I was completing my BA. I am experienced in teaching Classical languages using the "grammatical method" as well as the "natural method". I have taught mostly languages and Classical literature, but I tutored as well a few adults willing to learn Italian as a second language.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient but firm tutor. I believe that most of the pupils are naturally curious and that their curiosity must be stimulated with a learning experience based on their own interests and in their own time. Even though grammar is not that fun, it is possible to explain it in a compelling way, that makes it not only more interesting but also easier to memorise.
I usually prepare before every lesson different exercises for all of my tutees, in order to challenge all their abilities in a certain subject before e.g. an exam.
