Personal Description:
I'm a personable, down-to-earth qualified English teacher with an English-specialised master's degree and experience in securing good outcomes. Those outcomes often include students' target grades, but considering the versatility of my subject - in constructing arguments, self-presentation, interview technique, and so on - I also emphasise the broad, contextualised relevance of what I teach. It's not just about the grades, it's also about the doors those grades might open and how best to equip students to walk through them.

I hugely enjoy the sheer stimulation and engagement which great literature brings, and hope to inspire my students with that same passion. At the same time, I emphasise the importance of sharp, efficient, clear and compelling writing, both creative and analytical.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in 2008 through a university programme, and since then have worked with schools, private clients, abroad, and as a schoolteacher. My students have come from virtually every background and ability level. I have also taught since 2012 in various contexts including abroad and at home in schools. I am a qualified English teacher with experience across all major exam boards at GCSE and A-level. I teach in an Outstanding comprehensive school now and will be moving to a top grammar school next year.

Tutoring Approach:

Fundamentally, I take the mystery out of English. Whether it be essay structure, metaphor, politics or themes, I explain the subject in down-to-earth and practical terms, while always encouraging my students to expand their horizons and think about the world in which they live. My depth of learning in English at one of the world's premier centres for it, UCL, ensures I can meet any challenge you or your child may have.

I cannot teach English all in one go; like all languages, it must be learnt through years of immersion. Therefore, I ask that students work hard on their own, as well as with me, by reading regularly for pleasure and consuming other media in English as well. What I can do is refine your understanding of it and give you tips and tricks to get through those difficult exams.

I look forward to engaging with great students.

Personal Description:
I am a semi-retired teacher with 32 years of experience of teaching and tutoring Economics. I am a Senior Examiner for Edexcel and AQA A Level Economics. I am also an examiner for OCR and IB Economics. This gives me an insight into how the examination papers are set and marked which allows me to support students in preparing for their examinations. I can provide tips on how to maximise your performance on the various exam papers.
I am also a trainer for AQA Economics for the new specification so I have a very good understanding of the content.
I received my doctorate last year and have had a book about education published, as well as a series of articles for educational journals.
I have a degree (BSc. Hons.) in Economics and Politics. I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). I have a Masters degree from Bath University and a PhD in Education.
I have a track record of success with A level and GCSE students.
I can offer high quality one to one tutoring for the entire A level or GCSE course, for individual units, or for exam preparation.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Economics in three different secondary schools in the UK. In total I have 32 years experience of teaching and tutoring Economics. I was Head of Department for Business and Economics for twenty five of those years across the three schools. I was a Deputy Head teacher for eight years. In January 2010 I became an examiner for Economics with AQA in 2010. In August 2012 I was appointed as an examiner for A level Economics by Edexcel, OCR and IB. In 2014 I was appointed as a Senior Examiner by Edexcel and AQA.

Tutoring Approach:

My students are my best referees. They tell me that my lessons are always well prepared, well delivered, interesting and fun. OFSTED have always graded my Economics lessons as Good to Outstanding. I have successfully tutored students online, including In China, so location is not a problem. As a tutor my style is relaxed yet focused. It is important that the tutee feels comfortable in the learning environment so that effective learning can take place. I believe that learning needs to be enjoyable and over the years I have built up a range of resources and startegies to make learning Economics enjoyable. My enthusiasm for the subject is infectious and tutees will come to engage with the subject matter of Economics in a new way.

Personal Description:
I am a retired police officer who has retrained as an EFL teacher. My main hobbies are keeping fit at the gym, music, reading, playing tennis, cinema, concerts and travel. As a person I am empathic, patient and kind. I am interested in current affairs both in the UK and worldwide.

Teaching Experience:

During my career I spent 5 years teaching IT in industry. As a police officer I spent 7 years in the Training Department teaching IT as well as Communications Skills, First Aid, Law and Force Policy.

Since retiring I have passed a CELTA course and have taught English in Vietnam for 3 months and Mexico for 4 months as well as a short contract in a high school in Austria. In the UK I have taught at a residential Easter School and two residential Summer Schools, teaching children and adults of all ages and from beginner to advanced level.

Tutoring Approach:

I apply to tutoring the same skills that I have used during my extensive time as a trainer - I motivate by encouragement, patience and praise, and use a teaching approach that will suit the learning style of my student. I also enforce strict deadlines and standards in order to maximise the learner's gain from the teaching time and to ensure that they use their study time wisely and efficiently. My attitude towards learners is that the only silly question is the one which they want to ask but don't, and that if they do not understand something then it requires me to explain it in a different way. I believe that if a learner enjoys their study they will gain a lot more from it, so endeavour to make lessons and tasks interesting and relevant.

Personal Description:
Ben is a technically and artistically accomplished in portraiture photography and been quoted by professors at a university as a master in the studio. He love's to make the photos encapsulate you and who you want to be. Ben strives to capture the details and emotions that would go together to make your time with me an enjoyable experience.
Ben is a social person and loves to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact on his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work, he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years, his creative flare became more apparent when he took A-levels in Fine Art, Sculpture, and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009, he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr. Simon Standing. During this course, he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specializing in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture, and figurative representation and critically analyzes the standardized figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition, Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D-New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographers say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and won't be disappointed. In this digital age, many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. Don't hesitate to contact me to discover more.

I also work in a apple shop in Guildford so can teach about apple products and how to use them both in conjunction with software like photoshop or one there own.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring photography from many years to all different ages and abilities from young kid's to University and Mature Learners, I started my teaching with teaching english in Thailand and working as a assistant youth worker and having to teach different subject and activities. I have furthered my experience with children running children Holiday camps over the school Holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

i have a relaxed approach to teaching trying to have an objective view to someone work but giving prods and direction where needed i lile for my students to discover the answer themselves and the satisfaction you see from them when this happens is the best part of the job every achievement is given praise and every downfall is looked at as not a failure but a part of the learning curve.

Personal Description:
At Birmingham University I obtained a first class degree in mathematics and went on to qualify as a chartered accountant. It was my desire to learn Spanish that originally made me move to Andalucía in the south of Spain ten years ago. With full immersion in the language, I soon became fluent in Spanish. In order to be with my wife, I moved to Guatemala, where I took the opportunity for a career change in the local village school. I realised that teaching gave a much higher job satisfaction and was much more suited to my lively, upbeat manner.

Teaching Experience:

After some teacher training I found a job as a maths teacher in an international bilingual school called Atitlán Multicultural Academy. I went on to become the headmaster of the school for three years. Monitoring and assessing other teachers gave me a great insight into different styles. After the birth of my daughter I wanted to travel less so I started giving Spanish and maths lessons via skype. This video conferencing tool means I can give classes face to face to students in the comfort of their own home.

Tutoring Approach:

My Spanish lesson plans are based completely on the student's objectives and learning styles. Most of my present students want to learn conversational Spanish, so I concentrate more on the oral skills of speaking and listening. However, I always try and cover the grammatical points in a clear systematic way, ensuring the student does not get demotivated with the more technical side. The most important for me is that learning is fun, and clear advancements are made in each class.

The maths lessons deal with the specific problems of the students to aid understanding in areas that they did not fully pick up in school. I specialise in exam preparation for GCSE, AS level and A level. The students are made to analyse the question, break down the requirements and give structure to their answers whilst making notes on the steps which they found difficult.

I am a hardworking student in year 12 who enjoys learning. I took my GSCE exams last year in which I achieved 8A*s and 2As. I was in the accelerated IGCSE Maths class taking my exam a year early and going on to sit an exam for an Additional Mathematics qualification where I got an A which was the highest achievable grade. I am patient and well organised. Science and Maths are my favourite subjects and I am hoping to study Natural Sciences at university level.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of mentoring a pupil once a week and also helping out at a homework club both in a voluntary capacity. As a mentor I have experience of one to one tutoring. Volunteering at the homework club has given me experience with the range of different people who come each week with varying needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn any subject. It is my desire to build confidence in any individual who wishes to study any subject they have an interest in or want help with. I want to help people enjoy learning. As I have recently taken these exams myself I am familiar with the subject content and exam technique necessary to achieve high grades.

Personal Description:
I am a professional writer and my most recent qualification is a first-class BA in English Language and Literature awarded in 2013 from the University of Leeds. I also have an up-to-date DBS certificate.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a tutor with JK Educate - a large agency who've equipped me with training to meet the needs of my tutees. I've also completed the University of Leeds Peer Mentoring Programme, a role which required me to give academic and pastoral advice to first years in the School of English when I was in my second and third years.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is, to many people, the cornerstone of a progressive education. In our current educational climate, tutoring offers to children a means to achieve academic success and progress onto the institutions of their dreams. I should know. Having been raised on a council estate in Bow, East London, where the state schools are poor (to put it mildly), I was tutored, firstly by my dad in arithmetic, then by a stream of excellent tutors who added English and more advanced Maths to my home curriculum, and by the time I left primary school I held a scholarship offer to my dream school. the prestigious independent day school City Of London.

Larger class sizes mean that children don't get the attention they deserve. In my school years I fell into that general category of learners that require close attention throughout their education to achieve their goals. I felt that the bulk of secondary school was particularly challenging because I was in large classes, and by this point was not receiving supplementary tutoring. By A-Level, the smaller class sizes enabled me to flourish in my four chosen subjects and graduate to attend the University of Leeds on the Leeds scholarship. While there, the one-to-one tuition I received from my professors, who encouraged my research in healthy directions, helped me leave with a first-class result.

All this is to say that I know exactly how important tutoring is. For me it is a fantastic and rewarding experience, and one which I have a lot of energy and patience for. My approach is fastidious and rooted to the needs of the individual tutee. I also feel that, particularly with younger students, parents should be fully informed with regards to the progress their child is making and the areas which need improvement. Through close and critical observation I believe a tutor can massively turn the tide of a young learner's academic progress.
