Tutoring Approach:

As a personal tutor I help learners to unlock their full potential. The environment of a large classroom often hinders results and limits development. I find that different approaches and environments improve results and increase enthusiasm to learn and the ability to work independently.
I aim to tailor tuition for the individual learner. At the intial session we agree a plan of action based on the learner's needs. We continue to review this plan as needs change. The tuition is intended to support study at school or college or individual study (eg distance learning courses). Sessions are informal but focussed and enjoyable. I set homework if required but prefer to concentrate on understanding and practice within the session.

Personal Description:
I am French, having grown up and attended school and University in Paris. In 2008 I moved to England to work at the University of Nottingham as a lectrice; I then obtained the PGCE and have been teaching French, Spanish and History in a local secondary school for 3 years until I decided to start studying again. I also obtained the CAPES to teach English as a foreign language in 2011. I am currently studying for a PhD in modern history at the University of Nottingham, but am keen to keep teaching during my research. I am married to an English man, and enjoy reading, music and films as well as sharing the wonders of French cuisine with my husband!

Teaching Experience:

I have taught French and Spanish up to A-Level for the past 3 years at Toot Hill School, and have also taught French at the University of Nottingham for a year, concentrating on speaking skills.
I have also tutored students for A-Level in history, as well as teaching the Ancient History GCSE course at Toot Hill School for two years.
I have a wealth of experience working with children, teenagers and adults alike (my husband is English and I am doing my best to drum French into him!), I have tutored privately in France for three years before moving to England, teaching English as a foreign language and have also worked as a translator.

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt a friendly, enjoyable approach to teaching, with the belief that promoting a love for learning is the key to the success of my students. Whenever possible, I use examples from the culture (songs, films, cartoons) and history of the countries where the language is spoken to give more relevance to the learning process.
I feel that my wide-ranging academic interests encourage students to locate particular subjects within a wider context, which I find often fosters a renewed enthusiasm for the subject itself.
Regarding teaching languages, I believe in providing a strong and clear grammatical background, but i also encourage students to be more confident and spontaneous in their use of the language, be it orally or in the written form, a system which I found worked very well with my pupils while I was teaching full time.

Personal Description:
My name is Lisa, I have a passion for the Martial Arts and love nothing more than teaching others. I have trained in Karate and Kickboxing prior to Taekwondo which has been my life for the past 18 years. I hope to be able to pass on my experience and knowledge to others. I have a venue available in Keighley and Bingley for private tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

4th Dan Black Belt in the Martial Art of Taekwondo with over 15 years experience of teaching. I hold the 3rd Class Foreign Instructors qualification from completing my training at the World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea.

I have additional qualifications in the fitness industry where I formally worked as a Gym Manager.

I offer private 1-1 tuition in self-defence and Taekwondo; I also teach Martial Arts to young people as part of West Yorkshire Police's Safer Schools initiative and have experience of teaching women's groups, young people in community organisations and individuals.

Tutoring Approach:

I am keen to be able to help others and pass on my knowledge and experience. I will teach you basic techniques to keep you safe & which work. Be aware that some instructors may show you fancy techniques but these aren't realistic in a dangerous situation, the key is to make you feel more confident, more aware and feel able to deal with a situation effectively should one arise. The basic techniques are the ones you can learn and master and which will hopefully keep you safe. It's not about strength but about technique and being knowledgeable in a situation.

Personal Description:
My Name is Maddy, I am 19 years old and have recently taken A levels in Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology at Bedales School. I have a place to study medicine at Cambridge in October 2014. I am able to tutor Chemistry and Biology to A level and Maths and Physics to GCSE level. I am also able to help students applying to study medicine with interview preparation, and preparation for the UKCAT and BMAT exams. I am also able to help with Oxbridge interview preparation for students applying to study medicine, medical sciences, natural sciences, biology or other similar courses.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a full time tutor giving one to one tuition in biology, chemistry, physics and maths. At school I spent a lot of time helping other students who were struggling with their studies. Other students at school often asked me for help with their academic work because i am good at explaining complicated concepts in a way thats easier to understand. I am always very patient and have very good problem solving skills. I spent an hour a week for 6 months volunteering at a local primary school teaching the children to read and use computers. I have now been working as a full time tutor for sever months.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very good at explaining difficult concepts in a way that is simpler and easier to understand. I am also calm and patient with students who find it hard to understand a subject. I usually work through topics areas or questions that the student is finding particularly difficult or we can go through past papers or work on exam technique. I think that all students learn in different ways and so I try to tailor the sessions to the individual student.

Personal Description:
I love using my language every day at work as a Receptionist for China Construction Bank. I feel I will never lose my passion for Chinese and I am committed to inspiring this same passion in other learners.

I graduated from University of Leeds specializing in Mandarin Chinese and French language. As part of my degree I spent one year living and studying in Shanghai at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During the year I attended a variety of classes and practised as much as possible, allowing me to become fluent. At university I graduated with a 2:1, achieving distinction in Spoken Chinese and Firsts in Chinese Literature and Politics & Law. After graduating I spent a year as an English Language Assistant for the British Council at a high school in Suzhou. I continued to study Chinese and passed my HSK Level 6 in June 2013. Using my language to integrate further into life in China was hugely enjoyable and rewarding.

I have spent 2 out of the past 5 years living in China and hope that I will always continue to develop my language abilities.

I have a real passion for languages and have been very privileged to have had the opportunities to go and live in the countries where these languages are spoken and experience the diverse culture each country has to offer. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about and want to help others have the same opportunities I have been fortunate to have.

Teaching Experience:

I tutored adults beginners' Mandarin twice a week face to face on Skype from January 2014 to September 2014. Two of my tutees have moved to Shanghai and I have been to visit them on holiday.

I have experience of teaching both Chinese to English speakers and English to Chinese speakers. Whilst living in China in 2008, I taught English to kindergarten classes and in 2009-2010 I taught conversational English to adult hairdressers at the Vidal Sassoon Hair Academy in Shanghai.

During my final year at the University of Leeds, I took part in the Oriental Express programme, where I taught basic Chinese (spoken and written) to secondary school students at a local school.

I spent last year as an English Language Assistant for the British Council in Suzhou, China, where I taught Enlish to 14-18 year olds.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very relaxed in order to make the learner as confident as possible in a stress-free working environment. I love Chinese, which is probably why I am so enthusiastic about teaching it to others. I tailor my lessons to the need of the learner and work at the learner's pace. I am also quite happy to teach in the target language. I encourage students to speak confidently in Mandarin, as I myself remember how daunting it can often seem as a learner. I believe that grammar and vocabulary is key when learning a language which is why I teach grammar structures whilst referring back to previously learnt vocabulary in order to build up a data base of new words. Being able to speak another language opens up many opportunities which is why I strive to help my students do the best they can.

Personal Description:
I am a 35 year old qualified maths teacher, living in Beeston. After university I worked for 11 years in IT, which included having to explain technical processes to non-technical people. This helped me learn how to explain concepts in different ways to help someone understand, and to have the patience to keep trying new methods to do so.
I then changed careers to education, and worked as a teaching assistant, with an emphasis on maths and science.
I am also an experienced church bell ringer, and have taught a number of new ringers around Nottingham, from the age of 8 to about 60, getting on well with all groups.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in Trent College, Long Eaton, and Hind Leys, Shepshed, as part of my teacher training. After that I taught in West Bridgford School for two terms, and came to find that I most enjoyed and was most effective at one on one tuition, both for general maths understanding and for exam preparation. I am currently at Friesland School in Sandiacre, providing numeracy booster lessons for pupils who need help to make progress in maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor tutoring sessions to each student, after establishing their current knowledge level and requirements from the tuition. I aim to work with the student to help them achieve their goals, whether that be towards a specific exam or to help with general maths understanding. I am flexible with location and time, and enthusiastic about sharing my love of maths with others.
