Personal Description:
I believe that a positive attitude, hard work and dedication are fundamental in achieving academic success. I am a first language English speaker with a 2.1 BA (Honours) in English Language and Literature, as well as an English teaching qualification (CELTA) from Cambridge University.

I am able to recognize and understand pupils' characters and individuality and, whilst taking into account their strengths and abilities, I construct my approach to best address the demands of the required topics. In doing so, I aim to continuously challenge, stimulate and examine pupils' ways of thinking and perceptions.

Teaching Experience:

I have had extensive experience in co-coordinating and delivering English language classes, as well as academic writing development workshops to university students. These classes included topics such as punctuation, parts of speech, tenses, paragraphing, essay structuring and Harvard referencing.

In addition, I have taught English to speakers for whom English is not a first language, and have had a great deal of experience with beginners and intermediate pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I construct my own lesson plans based on the level of assistance required so as to ensure that lessons are adequately tailored and researched for maximum effectiveness. I feel that academic work needs to be presented in such a way that it invokes interest, creativity and enjoyment, if pupils are to be adequately stimulated. I achieve this by ensuring that my lessons are topical and pitched appealingly so as to inspire my pupils to want to learn.

I believe in active learning, and that one can only learn through practical application and repetition, thus lending weight to the age-old expression 'practice makes perfect'.

Prices for individuals will be higher. This service is available to businesses as well, to form a part of your group training exercises.

Tutoring Approach:

I always aim to follow the National Curriculum, without making each lesson feel like more schoolwork. We can approach lessons in different ways.

i.e. We can do mini-projects which incorporate a range of subjects to enhance your overall learning experience, while improving skills such as organisation, essay-writing, note-taking, observation etc.

OR

We can have set lessons focusing on topics mentioned by the student, that need improving. For example, analysis of a book/text in English, improving History knowledge etc.

Generally the first hour for every student is where we develop a working plan that works for both parties, and so everyone knows what to expect. I am very laid back and flexible about things, so if there's ever a need to deviate from the plan, then that's not a problem. I'm also very open to questions. One-to-one tuition is all about being able to talk to your tutor and ask the questions you may not be able to in school. Therefore, lessons are always informal, and as long as we get our set work done, we can have a chat about anything else that may be concerning you in school/college/work or life!

As a final note, after evaluating each students specific needs, we will agree on the number of hours we will work together, and what pattern they will follow.

For example:

Normally people opt for -2hrs per week

Closer to exams you can have a series of intensive lessons - i.e. 2-3hrs per week all at once or spaced out over 3 days.

Some people need a quick crash course to prepare them for an assessment, or to complete an assignment that they need help with. In these instances we can develop an intensive program ranging from 1 full day to Xhr(s) per day leading up to your deadline.

I understand this may all seem very long-winded, but hopefully you can understand my working ethos and will want to enquire further to see what I can do for you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Marina. I enjoy reading, travelling and spending time with children. Since early age I took some fancy to math, was best in my class, gained A in GCSE and A* in A-levels. I enjoy tutoring math to kids, in my opinion, primary schools nowadays too relaxed with teaching math to young children, therefore many kids finding it difficult to cope with high demands of secondary schools. Using many techniques, I also teach pupils to succeed in passing entrance exams to selective secondary schools. Also having mother tongue Russian, I teach Russian to young and old. I have a number of private tutees and many of then had a great success in passing exams on Russian.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored math and entrance exams for children since my University time, that's making it nearly 19 years, it has never been my full time job, though. I have a degree in engineering, later I qualified as an accountant and spent many years working as an auditor for a very reputable, big four firm of chartered accountants. While working for an international company I have tutored some of my colleagues Russian. Also I have private students that I teach Russian. During the past 10 years many of my students had successfully passed their GCSE and A levels in Russian.

Tutoring Approach:

I use lots of tests and interactive games while tutoring my students. I am a friendly, approachable and kind person, l love children and do have lots of patience and talent to explain things sometimes over and over again.

Personal Description:
"I love Romeo and Juliet", and that's down to you." It was this comment, and a young girl, who inspired me to want to teach the 11 plus age group. She was studying for her English GCSE through the method of home schooling, and I regularly tutored her for at least four hours a week. It was hugely inspiring for me to see a young girl who had lost all her confidence through being bullied at school, becoming someone who was beginning to love education and learning again. I began to realize that teaching at that level is not only rewarding, but if you teach well, you could be an inspiration to someone. I was personally inspired to teach by my own experiences at school; in particular by my Math's and Drama teachers. Above all they treated me as an individual, encouraging me to achieve my personal best. In Drama, our teacher's enthusiasm and commitment motivated us to produce A grade presentations. In Math's, a subject that I did not enjoy initially, my tutor used his sense of humour to teach us tricks and mnemonics to make learning interesting. Both were approachable and friendly and their honesty encouraged a sense of openness in the classroom. This is the type pf tutor I feel I am. I want pupils to feel that they can ask me anything, and to know that they will leave thier tutoring session having learnt something new and having felt inspired and to be enthusiastic in returning.

Teaching Experience:

I have experienced the classroom environment myself. For three years, I helped in a school every week, working with children from the ages of 5-11. Although I enjoyed my experience of working with young children, it was enough for me to realize that primary children would not stretch me in the way I wanted. Working with such young children would not allow me to teach what I enjoy the most, literature. I want to teach English or literature to the depth at which it becomes the most interesting and enlightening. I would hope to give my students a sense of the background and history from which literature was produced and lead them to an understanding and appreciation of the English language. English is a subject that teaches you something new everyday, it is also a subject where the pupils can teach you too. Everyone has different interpretations of a text, and this idea of continuously learning whilst I am teaching excites me the most and means that teaching will always be a great career. I experienced this level of excitement when I completed a short course at Rushcroft secondary school, giving presentations about teenage issues to year 9 SEN students.I am now developing my skills even further by working at a secondary girls school, La Sainte Union, where I am working as a learning support assistant. Here I am working with the English department, where I have so far been involved with all the different years(year 7-11), taught, and discussed a range of texts, from pre 20th century novels like 'Great Expectations' and am helping students write GCSE coursework on Shakespeare's Macbeth. My job role requires me to work with SEN students as well as being a general classroom assistant, and this has taught me a lot. For instance,I have enjoyed working with the same students every day as it gives me a chance to get to know each pupil and their needs.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to my enthusiasm, I believe that I will be a dedicated tutor and having observed the heavy workload first hand, I think my efficiency and organisation will help.
Tutoring would give me the opportunity to acquire new skills and develop those I already have, in order to become a good tutor.

I believe being patient and enthusiastic is the key to being a successful tutor. I have learnt from previous expereinces that every child needs to be approached and taugh differently. 'Every child matters', and therefore we should look at all pupils as individual learners and cater tho thier needs in the best possible way that suits them.

Personal Description:
I am young student still currently studying my final year at University. I achieved 8 A-C grades in GCSE and 3 A-C grades for A Levels.
I am from a good family background with high morals. I am a fun and enthusiast person when it's coming to teaching and understanding someone to a particular topic.
I am an open minded, with good manners and I can handle anything. Everyone and anyone will listen to me, as the type of person I am, people do listen. I can easily make friends with anyone.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for the last two years to family and friends of mine. These are usually GCSE students, and A Levels. I have taught them while the first two year of my University education. I have taught around seven students, and currently teaching four, two of whom are currently doing Business GCSE and two who is doing A Level Media Studies.

Tutoring Approach:

As I have not long done my A Levels and GCSE, and that I am quite young, students tend to gel with me quite nicely. There isn't that age gap, I have been in their shoes not long ago! So therefore I believe I am a great teacher. I have great patients for the students who find it difficult to understand, but my teaching methods help me break it down to make it much easier and remember able to them.
I'm probably more into what students are into these days as I have brothers and cousins who are around the ages from 14-18 so I can be good friends with them as well of being their tutor.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Francesca and would love to help your children achieve their goals!

In June 2008 I completed my Primary PGCE at the University of Cambridge achieving Qualified Teacher Status, having previously graduated from the University of Manchester in 2007 with a 2.1 in Psychology. I am currently teaching a Year 5 class in local Cambridge.

As I am working as teacher, I am available weekday evenings, weekends during term time and any time during the holidays. I am willing to travel further afield if expenses were covered.

Finally, I don't see teaching as "just a job", it is my passion! I am highly-motivated, caring and will 'give anything a go'!

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working as a year 5 teacher in a school in the Cambridge area (however, I have worked with Years 1/2, 4, and 6 during teaching practice). I absolutely love the challenge and the fact that everyday is different.

Although I have not been a qualified teacher for long, I have worked with children in all aspects of life from a relatively young age.
- I have worked at Center Parcs in the Time Out club since 2005 where I help run activities for children from 3 months to 14 years; I am still working their part time during the holidays.
- I also worked for Kids Unlimited Nurseries from Oct 2004 till 2007 working with children from a 'learning through play' perspective.
- In 2003 and 2004 I worked for the Norfolk Autistic Society with giving respite care to parents of children with Autism and Aspergers Syndrome.
- From 2000-2003 I also helped out in a Harford Manor Special Needs School in Norwich on a voluntary basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that children need to feel comfortable and secure in their surroundings before they are able to put their whole mind into learning. So I would aim to get to know each student well, exploring their own learning style, strengths and areas with need of support. It is also important to make students work towards their own goals, rather than constantly measuring them up to the 'national averages'. However, in times of stress where children are working towards external exams I can help them reach these more standardised aims.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified, GTCS registered, native speaker of French.

I lived and studied in France until the age of 18 but have lived in the UK since 1991, and in Scotland for the past 5 years.

I am comfortable teaching learners of all levels, my previous career was in IT support. I am a patient and committed teacher, but I also like to keep things relaxed and fun for my pupils.

I am as happy teaching conversational French for business or a holiday as I am preparing young people for exams.

Teaching Experience:

I have completed my probationary year in a secondary school in South Lanarkshire, where I taught mixed ability classes from S1 to Advanced Higher.

Before that I completed my PGDE course at Glasgow University, teaching in various schools in Glasgow.

I have detailed knowledge of the current Scottish secondary curriculum, and criteria for grades in examinations and assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning is most effective and fun when the learner is being active.

My approach is therefore to get my students to perform, explain and think about their learning as much as possible to keep them engaged and help them retain what they have learned.

I have a systematic approach to teaching, I will first assess the student's areas for improvement by asking for an example of their work or setting them a task.
I give students a clear indication of their level and what they need to work on to achieve better grades. I have found this approach gives excellent results in terms of improving confidence in the subject and ulitmately grades.

My aim is to stretch my students with materials appropriate for their level.

I have my own teaching resources and work on all language skills, Listening, Talking, Writing and Speaking. I am comfortable using technology to aid learning, using for example podcasts and emails. I keep my teaching varied and fun.
