Personal Description:
APPOINTMENT SLOTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE: Monday 7.45pm onwards, the coming Easter Holiday.

As a student, little came easy for me.

I learned the hard way.

Now, with over 20 years of teaching experience in a variety of institutions - from Oxbridge entrance to comprehensives on 'Special Measures' - I am young enough to remember my struggles and old enough to know better.

I know how to bridge that gap for my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

This is my fifth year as a full-time tutor, but I was a secondary school teacher for 19 years before that.

I have experienced many types of academic performance from high-performing grammar schools to comprehensives on 'special measures'. I have held a variety of positions of responsibility within schools, particularly in the pastoral system such as Head of Year. I have been a grade-A examiner for AQA GCSE Geography.

During the last four years of 11 Plus entrance, including September 2013, 12 out of 22 students passed. This is in keeping with my predictions where proportions are concerned. I have also successfully helped one parent and child through the appeals procedure for grammar selection. Furthermore, my 12 Plus tutee in 2011 was the only girl to pass and get a place at South Wilts.

I have also successfully helped one parent and child through the appeals procedure for grammar selection. Furthermore, my 12 Plus tutee in 2011 was the only girl to pass and get a place at South Wilts.

I have taught numerous syllabi: in the last five years I have tutored AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC at A level Geography. Indeed, I taught the whole of the A2 Edexcel Geogaphy syllabus online to one a tutee in Moscow: he has now gained a place at Aston University. I have mainly tutored the AQA and Edexcel syllabi for GCSE Maths. It would be fair to say that the overwhelming majority of my A level tutees experience significant gains and regularly obtain A or B grades.

At the moment (September 2013) I have 17 tutees in total: one A-level tutee, one GCSE English tutee, one home-schooled GCSE tutee for both English and Maths, two Key Stage 3 Maths tutees, one Key Stage 3 English tutee, two 11 Plus tutees, two Primary School Maths tutees and two Primay School Maths and English tutees. I would say on average, across the year, I would have between 15 and 20 tutees each week. Nearer exam time, this can creep up to 25.

Tutoring Approach:

One size does not fit all . . .

Tutoring and learning should be natural and intuitive so that tutees can 'fly' by themselves.

To make the most of tuition, a tutee must be 'on-board'. If it's their idea - even better. A tutee that is in-charge of their own learning makes an excellent pupil.

As a tutor, I decide what is right for the tutee - not an institution. Parents often want someone who is familiar with the education system but independent enough to give an honest assessment. My main concern is the welfare of the tutee - not just their academic progress - nor the reputation of some teacher or institution. If something is not right for a tutee, no matter how forceful a parent might be or how much money I might lose, I simply will not do it. Each year there are a handful of tutees I turn away because of this.

In the first session I will try to identify what it is the tutee needs, and you may wish to quiz me in more detail. I will need access to school reports and examples of the tutee's work. Through discussion with my tutee and parental input it should become clear the reason for the tutoring.

From this 'snag' list, I will design a bespoke program to meet the educational needs of the tutee. It is flexible and, unlike a classroom situation, I can respond immediately to the needs of the tutee.

Homework will always be set, depending upon the demands placed upon the tutee by the normal school week. The tutee will be far more involved with learning than in a normal school class where they can 'hide', so prospective tutees need to expect plenty of chat and discussion, reviewing work and giving feedback.

For learning to be 'on the wing', to be natural and instinctive, tutees need to work hard without feeling the burden. This can only happen through enjoyment and a lot of laughter. That's my part: helping tutees to work really hard without realising it.

If at any point I feel unable to help, I won't just prolong tuition, or if our work has met its aims then I will call a halt. The point of tuition is not to need me anymore, so they can 'fly' all by themselves.

I offer two types of 'remote' tuition options at the moment:

i/ ONLINE FACE-TO-FACE TUITION: face-to-face on Skype is very good in dealing with syllabus issues and reinforcing and filling in the holes the class teachers leave behind. Face-to-face tuition lends itself well to visual resources such as diagrams, maps and pictures. It is primarily discussion-based and the tutee needs to take notes as we go along. I regularly send tutees files to prepare them for the lesson and to discuss in the lesson. If a tutee comes to face-to-face tuition and expects to be spoon-fed or entertained, it just won't work. Extra work can be set to test their written understanding. Usually, it is enough to go through topics the student struggles with. Once they 'click' with the topic/issue, we move onto other areas. Payment for this type of tuition is a flat fee each week to cover lesson preparation and the lesson itself. The marking of substantial pieces of work outside of lesson time such as essays will incur a modest marking fee.

ii/ CORRESPONDENCE-STYLE WITH UNLIMITED EMAIL SUPPORT: work is set through powerpoints, pdf files and word documents for the student to do on their own in their own time. This should keep the tutee occupied for between 1-3 hours each week, unless more is required. It is then returned to me within the week. I mark it and provide feedback in the form of an audio file (up to 30 mins), talking them through the various issues. Any amounts of email conversations to help the student with this particular piece of work are allowed, after feedback has been given. This is very much an ongoing and open-ended commitment, once work has been set and feedback given, and the student is totally free to contact me with any issues. As a result, the payment structure is open-ended and depends on the amount of time used to prepare resources, mark and give audio feedback. This is added up at the end of each week, and the client is then billed. Follow-up emails and support are not timed but are considered as a 'free' part. Generally, this time will be from about 45-90 mins per week. I keep a track of the time minute to minute and endeavour to keep the time used as short as possible while setting about 1-3 hours of work. This is very much a trust system of working. I tailor the work individually to suit the student as opposed to an ordinary correspondence course that just covers syllabus content.

Please be aware that I do charge for travelling over 30 miles (roundtrip: 15 miles each way):
30-40 mile roundtrip - 5
41-50 mile roundtrip - 10
51-60 mile roundtrip - 15
61-70 mile roundtrip - 20

Personal Description:
Hello,
I have a Masters degree in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London), and gained a BA Distinction at the Academy of Art and Design in the leading university in China (Tsinghua University). I have been practicing sketching and painting for more than 15 years, and majored in painting in my undergraduate school. My work has achieved a number of successes, notably being collected by the top contemporary art museum in China (Beijing Today Art Museum), being sold at the Red T Art Gallery in Beijing and being exhibited in numerous galleries and exhibitions in both UK and China. Additionally, my work formed part of the 2011 Alexander McQueen global retail collection.

I am also a native Mandarin speaker from Beijing. As a graduate from the leading university in China, I have taken and excelled in tests including Chinese literature, philosophy, poetry, history, and politics - all in Mandarin. With my art degree, I have an extensive knowledge of contemporary and historical Chinese culture, as well as advanced Chinese calligraphy. I believe an understanding of society is essential in order to learn a language, especially in a language like Mandarin, which is rooted in its historical culture.

Teaching Experience:

2010-2012: Personal art/ Mandarin tutor in London.
2006-2008: Painting teacher in Beijing Han-Lin Painting High School.
2007: Personal art/Chinese as foreign language tutor in Beijing.

Tutoring Approach:

As an art teacher, I will teach every student differently; it will depend on the student's request, level and talent. You can learn every style and technique from me, including basic to advanced drawing skills, how to use different materials, and importantly, I will help you discover and nourish your interests.
Teaching Subject: Oil / acrylic painting, sketch, watercolour, Chinese painting, oil pastel, collage, etc.

As a Mandarin language teacher, I will teach you how to speak Chinese, from pronunciation to writing characters/calligraphy to grammar. My students have found that understanding the history and culture of China has led to more interesting lessons and helped them connect meaning to words. This can certainly help you pass listening, speaking, reading, and writing tests (such as GCSE, A level, and other tests), but more importantly it will equip you far better when in China or speaking to a Chinese person.

Relaxed style of teaching though I do tend to concentrate on the basics of any subject as without these the foundations for future learning will be too weak to achieve the highest levels attainable.

I have been tutoring for over 12 years in a range of subjects from KS2 booster lessons and Kent Test Preparation, to A Level Geography (100% success so far).

Personal Description:
Originally from Hong Kong, I am a native Chinese speaker for both Cantonese and Mandarin. There is no doubt of my Chinese proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing. I am very patient and have good teaching skills. My English is fluent in speaking and listening so please feel free to ask any question during tutoring. I like making friends and sharing culture. Let's have fun!
I am based in Southampton, so prefer those who lives in Southampton or nearby. I don't mind to go to Portsmouth :) but probably required additional transport fee.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since I was primary school to other junior fellow Chinese people in a voluntary base when I was studying in Hong Kong. I also teach Maths, English, Sciences and general studies to primary schools and year 7-9. My tutees have shown great improvement after tutoring. One of my tutee ranked No.1 in the whole class after a year tutoring and showed great improvement.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is more like a friendly and relaxing way where you can learn the Chinese and apply the language in an appropriate way. It would be a great opportunity for tutees to understand the Chinese cultures. There is no standard textbook required but would help ordering a reference if required. My way of teaching is more like application to daily life where you will soon build up a solid foundation of Chinese level after lessons. Of course, for those are sitting for exam, my approach will be more exam-oriented. I would be more than happy to adjust pace to suit different students.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

After initial assessment we will decide together how and how often I will teach you or your children. I make learning fun with games etc.
Motivation is probably the most important factor that educators can target in order to

Personal Description:
I enjoy continually learning about the foreign languages and related cultures. I read the newspapers (english, french, spanish and italian) to keep up to date with current affairs.
Speech therapy is one of my biggest interests that started when I was a teenager. I used to go along with my brother to his speech therapy classes three times a week. From then until the now I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about speech and how to help people who have language difficulties.
I also enjoy writing poems. I start with an important statement then expand on that statement to create a short poem.
I was and educator in the church community and taught others from the age of 12 to 18 life and social skills. I enjoy carrying out charity within the community and always put others before myself.
I like to go out walking in the countryside when I can and would like to visit as many places in the world as possible to expand my personal culture.

Teaching Experience:

While I was going to University, I taught English privately to high school students. They were able to speak English but were not able to complete sentences without several mistakes and problems with tenses. I was able to help these students as I had a medium level qualification and good understanding of past and present tenses. Prior to me helping them, they had failed their exams and had 3 months in which to improve and pass. Once I had helped them during this period, they returned to school and passed their exams.
I taught my brother who had severe dyslexia to overcome his problem with grammar, reading, speaking and listening to the English language.

Tutoring Approach:

I have learnt through passed experience that one of the most important qualities is patience. Each student reacts differently in terms of time and attitude.
I believe that a teacher should be passionate about teaching. This passion can be shown by creative lessons and diversification of teaching methods. For example, using music, games, videos and acting/creating scenarios. Organisation is one of the main qualities. For example, if you have student that has a goal of being able to speak a language within a 6 week period, you need to make sure all the necessary steps are in place to reach this goal. A great teacher establishes clear objectives for each lesson and works to meet those specific objectives during each class.
Leadership is essential to remind students although that learning a foreign language can be fun at the same time it requires 100% effort.

Personal Description:
Hi,
My name is Valentinos. I am a native Greek speaker and professional teacher of the Greek language. I am passionate about teaching and the use of the new technologies in education.
I studied at the University of Athens Classical Philology (this include Modern and Ancient Greek language) and teaching approaches and theories to the subject. I graduated in 2011 and I came to Liverpool for my masters at the University of Liverpool. I studied Ancient History and at the same time, I started an online course from the center of Hellenic studies in Athens which focuses on the teaching of Greek as a foreign language.

Teaching Experience:

I am working as a teacher of the Greek language at the Greek school of Liverpool and as a private tutor. At the Greek school I teach Greek to ten years old students. As a private tutor, I have students from different background and ages. I teach children of Greek immigrants, people who love Greece and are interested in learning Greek for their holidays in the country, people who wish to retired in Greece and want to learn the language before they go. I have, also, adults students who have a family connection with Greece (their father or grandfather is Greek) and want to learn the language of their relatives back home.

Tutoring Approach:

Having students from so different backgrounds and with so different learning purposes and available time and learning pace, my teaching approach cannot be only one. I, always, arrange a pre-lesson meeting (either online or face to face) with interested people in order to obtain information regarding their level, the time they want to invest in their learning, their interests and their favourite way of learning things. Then, I suggest the appropriate learning materials. They are usually a blend of textbooks and my own materials.
I always try to make the lesson fun and productive. I, also, believe in the power of technology and the positive impact that it can have in the learning process. I use a number of online educational tools to help the learning of my students.
So, if you are interested in learning modern Greek just get in touch with me. Try it and you will not be disappointed. I can tutor you in my house or I can travel to yours. I, also, tutor online using Skype.
I hope to hear from you soon!

Personal Description:
Hello my name is Philip and I`m a recent graduate from the University of Nottingham. I am a friendly, patient and approachable maths tutor dedicated to helping your children achieve their full academic potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring part time for the a few months and am looking to build on that experience. I`m currently completing a TEFL (teach English as a foreign language) course, hoping to eventually combine my love of teaching with traveling.

Tutoring Approach:

Having just left the education system I understand the pressure facing students to achieve high marks. With this in mind I tailor sessions specifically around the student`s needs, building up their confidence by breaking down daunting topics into smaller manageable pieces.

Furthermore, I place a strong emphasis on exam technique ensuring that not only do students fully grasp the material but that they are also able to apply that knowledge within the exams.
