Personal Description:
I'm a 45-year old graduate of the excellent University of Sussex languages course with a First Class Honours degree in French and Russian. I lived for four years in Paris where I mastered the language and the accent!

As well as language studies, my course encompassed literature from the 16th to the 20th centuries and history, society and politics since the French Revolution - subjects I am therefore qualified to talk about with some authority.

I like to stay abreast of French culture and society and am catching up with some novels I didn't get to read at university (most recently Georges Perec's wonderful <i>La Vie, mode d'emploi</i>)

Teaching Experience:

I have now been privately tutoring students at all levels for 6 years covering most UK exam boards at GCSE KS3 and KS4, AS and A2-level, and I have also helped prepare older students for the DELF.

Recent successes include steering a young lady through her DELF B1 exam with a 92.5% mark and an 11-year old girl passing her selective school entrance exam.

Here are some comments from a couple of clients - originals available on request.

<i>"Thank you so much for all your patient hard work - you taught her exactly the right stuff and there is no way she could have done it without you! I really didn't think it was possible to teach the whole year 7 curriculum in a week but somehow you managed it.

"Tiffin Girls is one of the top state schools in the country and rather competitive. Chatting to the other parents outside the exam, most of the competitors went to good independents or had been tutored over a long period of time. <b>You really knew not only what to teach but how to teach it, which shows you have exceptional skills.</b>"</i> - Anoushka (pupil's mother)

<i>"Just thought I should let you know I got an A! Thanks for all your help"</i> - Helena (A-level student)

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to tailor lessons specifically to a student's needs, but my general method is to engage him or her at a level just above their 'comfort zone'. Learning is about challenging yourself to do better, and it is crucial for a tutor to be supportive and encouraging, and also to keep the bar high.

Lessons can be conducted entirely in French, or in a mixture of English and French. I can work alongside a student's existing course (that is, from a textbook a student is already following), or we can use course books that I recommend.

Where the level allows, I like to draw upon material from contemporary sources such as French news magazines.

For "conversation classes", I find it is useful to base the discussion on an article or a book to help build vocabulary, and also think that incorporating grammar instruction (where appropriate) can be a good idea.

Note that hourly rates are based on the student travelling to my home. If you require tutoring at your own home or office, there is an extra charge per lesson, dependent on distance travelled. Please contact me for more details!

Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experienced tutor, based in central Ipswich and I can tutor in students' homes or my home. I really enjoy tutoring as I find that my students make excellent progress which is very rewarding for me, too. Where required, I can provide references from previous students.

Teaching Experience:

I have 25 years' teaching experience (EFL/ESL, German and French) across all levels in colleges, local schools and as a private tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

My greatest strength is my ability to tailor my lessons to match students' exact linguistic needs - whether that means focussing on grammar, speaking ability, exam preparation or a combination of any of these for those who are learning for work and/or leisure purposes.

Personal Description:
I am a registered Speech and Language Therapist and have been practising since 2011. I also hold a BA in Linguistics and a TESOL/TEFL Certificate to Teach English as a Second/Foreign Language.

I am a mother of a 22 month old daughter and so I love spending time with her when I can. I love music, reading, going outdoors, and exploring England?

Teaching Experience:

I work with children with a variety of special needs, both pre-school and school age, including Autism, Dyspraxia, Global delay, speech/language delay and disorder, language impairment and dyslexia.

I have been doing TEFL with both children and adults, beginner to advanced since 2008.

I have been tutoring English Literature GCSE since 2012. I am familiar with WJEC, AQA and Edexcel examination boards and have achieved A* grades with my students.

My ability to equip a student for studying comes from my longstanding experience as a student myself. Therefore, I am more than qualified to support such students both virtually and face to face. I currently mentor a Speech therapy student via Skype.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is person centred, giving the student some control of what activities they do. Lessons are designed around the individual's motivators, and so time is spent identifying these. My approach is about empowering the student and helping them to recognise that literacy and communication is FUN and USEFUL.

I work collaboratively with parents/carers and professionals involved with the child. If I'm working with adults, I will set a block of therapy or a teaching programme with the student so that goals are individual to you and your needs.

Language is 24/7 and so learning a language or therapy is not just achieved through the teacher/therapist but also with every other person that you come into contact with. Therefore, it is vital to practise language when I am not there.

Personal Description:
I have a First Class Hons. in Drama from the University of East Anglia. I have also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for actor training. I teach drama tuition at Theatrix Performing Arts School in St Albans, Hertfordshire to a range of age groups. Alongside my teaching I am a working professional actor and writer. I have written and performed in an award winning film; I am a trained radio presenter on my local station and I have also established my own theatre company, The Callΰs Company.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked at Theatrix Performing Arts school in St Albans, Hertfordshire since Sept. 2012. I have directed students through Trinity College London acting examinations as well as public performances in shows. In autumn 2013 my students achieved a 100% pass rate with Merits or Distinctions in their performance examinations.

I have worked with private students on both their practical and theoretical drama school exams at GCSE and A-Level standard.

Furthermore, I worked as a volunteer English teacher on the island of Roatan in Honduras, Central America for one year. I taught Spanish and Garifuna speaking children aged 12 to 24 in basic spoken and written English.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage a focus on movement and text analysis when working with students on the practical and performance aspects of theatre. I use exercises, improvisations and games to engage them with the scenes they are working on.

I try to facilitate a students' personal creativity when working with them on theoretical theatre work; I encourage them to use their own ideas and opinions. It is my view that theatre is not objective, so allowing personal style is very important.

Personal Description:
I am an active lady, studying at this moment my degree in public administration and working as a logistic specialist in a multinational company where I have the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. I lived in Spain for 10 years, until I moved to UK in May of 2014 and I was able to achieve a very good level of the Spanish language (Castellano).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Spanish to little children and adults to help them integrate in the Spanish culture. The little ones were able to achieve good results in primary and secondary school, and the adults were able to get a job.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to all the years I have spent in Spain working as a professional I was able to learn and enrich my vocabulary on a daily basis. I could help you get from a null level to a high level of Spanish based on all the working experiences I had in 10 years. I learned Spanish by myself starting with easy grammar exercises just to make sure I knew the basic rules and tried to achieve as much vocabulary as I could. By the time I was 3 months only in Spain I was able to dialogue using all the tenses correctly. I worked as a butcher, waitress, babysitting, housekeeping, in factories, with ONGs, as an administrative assistant, billing administrative and logistic specialist and never stopped learning. I studied one year to achieve the Certificate of Higher Education (HNC) and I was second in my class. Spanish grammar and correct spelling was very important during the course.

Personal Description:
My name is Marese, I'm a CELTA qualified English Language Teacher and I live in Glasgow, Scotland. I'm a friendly and outgoing person who loves meeting people from different cultures and from around the world. I love music, photography, architecture, art, cinema, hiking and cycling. I've worked in Germany, England, Ireland and more recently studied and taught English in Korea and Thailand. I am interested in technology and social media and like to keep these skills up to date, especially my online teaching skills. All of my lessons are tailor made to each individuals needs and learning goals, and are really enjoyable too as I like to build a good relationship with my students.

Teaching Experience:

I am a CELTA qualified English language teacher and have worked as a teacher of English in public schools in South Korea for two years. I've also taught English to adults in Germany and to students online (all levels). In addition, I hold a TEFL Certificate in 'Teaching English Online' (2013).

I've previously worked as a tutor with Spanish people on work placements in Scotland. I've organised successful Glasgow based English Language 'Meet Up' Groups. When studying in Thailand, I tutored adults as part of my CELTA teacher training and when I was at Napier University, Scotland, I tutored part time supporting lecturers to teach computer technology and animation.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm enthusiastic and passionate in my approach to teaching, which is reflected in my relationships with students and colleagues, and in the positive feedback I've received from both. I encourage student centred learning and coach and facilitate students to reach their language goals with lessons that are interesting and well planned.

I have a variety of experience working in national and international public and private sector organisations, and this experience would especially benefit teaching teenagers and adults, especially people who are interested in business English, academic English or in professional development. However, I'm delighted to teach students of all levels, backgrounds and age, as I can relate and engage well in online teaching sessions.

During my professional and academic life, I have always followed a rather simple rule: We all have different needs, abilities and aspirations, but they are not necessarily the same shape, size and colour. This way of looking at the world is crucial and is the approach I take when teaching English - students have different language needs and my aim is to meet those needs in a fun and engaging way.
