Personal Description:
I am a first class physics graduate from Lancaster University, now living in York. I am an avid cyclist and due to my background in both applied physics and engineering, I am starting off a business in building bamboo bicycle frames. On top of that I constantly deal with everyday mathematics and physics, so I constantly sharpening my skills in teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I first started tutoring about 2 years ago when I helped my friend's daughter in GCSE physics. The student had trouble understanding the basics behind most of the general physics which the teachers in school go through quickly without realising that everyone has different way of learning. I approached the student with a different point of view and quickly understood her level of understanding. It made me realise that I was in similar situation when I was in school and it was impossible to avoid getting low grades because I received no individual attention from my teacher. I tutored for 6 weeks and her grades went up from D to B. I hope that this information helps parents to understand the difficult situation that some children find themselves in when their learning level is different to others, so outside tutoring always improves confidence and understanding in weak subjects.

Since 2009 I have taught a number of students and remarkably they have all scored better grades after just few lessons. I have taught students who speak different languages and I didn't find it difficult to communicate with them either. Every student is different and I teach every student differently so have never heard a bad review from anyone so far.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is straight forward and simple. I try to understand each student and learn about their weaknesses and strengths early on. This gives me enough information to start with and the student also feels relieved knowing that I understand their difficulties with the subject.

At start I go through problems which the student finds easy to tackle, helping them to build confidence and then slowly I merge difficult problems (different for each individual) into my lessons. This tactic never fails to work as the student is always learning something new starting from the day one.

My explanation of the problems relates to everyday physics and maths that one goes through. Making it simple for the student to understand and relate to. Lastly I am very flexible with time and travel so I am almost always ready to teach.

Personal Description:
I'm currently a first year law student at university of bristol. I was born in China and was inculcated with traditional chinese values. I completed 3 years of junior high school in China where I spent most of my time on studies. I have a strong enthusiasm in learning languages. My mother tongue is mandarin, but through my personal effort I have become accustomed in speaking english and consider it almost my native language. I believe that speaking different languages is an excellent way of understanding different cultures, and there is only fun in learning it. I'm a very outgoing person, and through traveling, I have evolved into an open-minded individual. I am confident in giving you a fresh start of learning mandarin.

Teaching Experience:

I have provided private chinese tuitions to 2 primary kids in Singapore for 8 months during 2009-2010. They both got A*s for their chinese subjects.

Personal Description:
I am 25 years old and am currently studying for a graduate medical degree at Hughes Hall, University of Cambridge. During the application process for this course I was required to sit the UKCAT aptitude test, where I achieved a very strong score (Section One: 730, Section Two: 860, Section Three: 790, Section Four: 730). I have recently left the Army as a Captain, having served for 4 years, including an operational tour of Afghanistan and various training exercises abroad in Belize, Brunei and Kenya. Most recently I was employed as a platoon commander at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate where I was responsible for training and teaching a platoon of 48 sixteen to eighteen year olds over the course of a year.

Before I attended the commissioning course at Sandhurst, I achieved a 2.i in politics, philosophy and economics from St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford. My focus during this degree was towards politics and economics, with a particular emphasis on British political and economic developments from 1900 right up to contemporary life.

I attended a state comprehensive school in West Sussex before I went up to university, where I took both my A-levels and GCSE's. During Sixth Form I took four subjects to A-level (Math's, Further Math's, Chemistry and History) and two subjects to AS-level (Physics and Economics), achieving an A Grade in all subjects. At GCSE I achieved five A*'s (Including Math's and Double Science) and six A's as well as an A in an additional math's qualification (FSMQ).

Outside of my studies I am a keen rugby player and have represented school, college and my battalion; I currently play regularly for Bury St Edmund's Wolves. I also enjoy trekking, picked up whilst achieving my Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award at school, which has led me on several expeditions, including traversing the entire length of the Spanish Pyrenees.

Teaching Experience:

As discussed above, my last job in the military was working at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate; a post I held for over eighteen months. During this time my responsibility was the teaching, training and welfare of a large platoon of sixteen to eighteen year olds. This included lessons on basic military skills going right through to looking at the Law of Armed Conflict and the contemporary political context of military deployments as well as offering assistance with their educational work in literacy, numeracy and IT. During this time I gained my Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector which is a formal qualification that covers various aspects of teaching theory and practice.

This teaching was delivered to groups ranging in size from over 200 people in a lecture theatre down to a one-on-one session in a classroom. There was a wide range of ability groups within my platoon, which has given me a good experience in how to tailor teaching towards an individual's aptitude and how to keep different people motivated. Overall my experiences at the College have given me a solid foundation from which to build on with my academic achievements and will allow me to offer high quality tutorials that engage and stimulate students as well as improve their prospects with regards to exams.

Alongside tutoring for exams and specific subjects I also offer sessions on all aspects of UCAS applications. Having been successful through the application process twice (to both Oxford and Cambridge Universities) I have a thorough understanding of what is required to make your application stand out and how to shine at interview. I can offer advice to both prospective arts students as well as science students, with a particular emphasis on Oxbridge applicants - including the separate application forms, interview techniques and aptitude tests required.

Tutoring Approach:

My overall approach is to start out with an open and honest discussion of where the student wants to get to and a frank assessment of where they currently are, before moving onto drawing up a realistic plan and agreeing on our respective roles and responsibilities to achieve it.

I use a coaching and mentoring attitude to teaching, whereby the student is given control of their own learning and I am there to facilitate that. I work from the belief that if the student does not take ownership of their own performance then their achievements will be a lot lower than their full potential.

Personal Description:
I hold a BSc in Psychology from UCL and a PGCE from the Institute of Education, London.

Teaching Experience:

Specialist in intensive Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology tuition, revision and exam preparation/technique. I have taught A Level full-time for 16 years and am an examiner for both subjects for a number of boards.

Many of my tutees have gone on to score 100% in units and after a comparatively short period of time improved their A Level score by several grades.

I also tutor undergraduates in Psychology and Anthropology, can advise on university choices and UCAS applications, provide university interview practice, and tutor prospective medic students for reasoning and written tasks for BMAT and UKCAT tests.

Testimonials from past and present students can be provided.

Tutoring Approach:

As a specialist in exam-focused, intensive tuition, I provide tutees with clear, concise class notes and revision materials specifically aimed at ensuring they understand exactly what is required in answers, how to address exam board assessment criteria, how to structure essays, how to manage time in exams, and strategies and tactics to maximise success. Homework will be provided to tutees between sessions and marked as it would be by official examiners in live exams - thus, strengths and weaknesses can be addressed.

I am an engaging, approachable tutor who enjoys teaching and makes learning interesting, rewarding and enjoyable. However, I will make demands on tutees in line with their aspirations and be entirely honest with parents and tutees about progress.

Personal Description:
Let me introduce myself. I'm Anna, I'm Italian, and I'm the teacher you are looking for!

I am passionate about teaching Classical Studies (Latin and Ancient Greek), as well as Italian; I have extensive teaching experience with beginning to advanced students of all ages. I hold a Bachelor and a Master's degree in Classical Studies from the University of Palermo (Italy).

Teaching Experience:

I have 8 years of experience in teaching grammar and literature (Italian, Ancient Greek and Latin), to individual students, and to small groups of students in private and public schools.

I've also worked as a City Lit Latin Tutor: teaching Latin Grammar rules, ligatures, word divisions and accents. Reading correctly any kind of Roman inscription, discerning the subject of the inscription (public, commemorative, religious, etc.). Assessment, marking, report writing and translation from Latin to English.

More specifically, I have experience in teaching students at a wide range of levels including GCSE, A-Level, and University, as well as preparing students for university entrance examinations. Furthermore, I enjoy working with children (6-13 years olds).

Tutoring Approach:

The study of the ancient world, especially the languages and cultures of Greece and Rome is a tremendous opportunity for students to expand their minds.

I'm approachable and very patient. I strive to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible and to create a comfortable atmosphere. I think that every student is unique, so I always try to find the best approach for everyone, using intuitive and yet humorous examples as much as possible.
I believe that the best way to teach is to make the subject interesting to the student and to pass on my passion.

Personal Description:
I have many years' experience of working with children and young people, running holiday clubs and leading youth groups. I am also a silver level qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award leader, and as a result have had great fun preparing students to survive both inside and outside of the classroom. My hobbies include art and craft, training animals and photography, and I like to bring these creative aspects of my character into everything I do.

Teaching Experience:

For 3 years (2010-2013) I was a science teacher in a local comprehensive secondary school rated 'good' by OfSted. However, during that time I became increasingly frustrated about how little time I was able to devote to each student in my class. After leading highly successful revision classes for small groups of students at GCSE level I have now chosen to move away from the classroom in order to better focus on the individual needs of my tutees.

During the last academic year I have tutored many students on a weekly, fortnightly, or occasional basis; these students are now awaiting the results of their GCSE, AS and A2 level examinations, and I expect them all to achieve highly as a result of my work with them.

Tutoring Approach:

I help the tutee to discover their own preferred style of learning, and then work with them to develop a tailored programme for success. I particularly enjoy helping students to discover the root of their misunderstandings, and then formulating ways for them to learn and revise effectively. I readily adapt to the individual requirements of learners, and consistently keep detailed records of previous work with each student to ensure excellent progress.
