I have been a tutor for over 12 years. I have also helped out in primary schools on a voluntary basis and I have part completed a PGCE in Upper Primary (1999). I am have completed a PGDE at Bury College so I am qualified to teach in further and higher education.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been tutoring privately for over five years and currently have fifty seven students.
I have worked in a high school as a English Graduate Assistant and have had exposure to lesson and administration relating to the curriculum.
I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. I first became interested in teaching through working as a private tutor with GCSE students, something I am doing since I finished my graduation, training to become a leader in the process. I have completed PGCE , a Masters and a BSc in Economics, level 5 Mathematics in Mechanics, numeracy level 1 & 2, Diploma in Computer Science & Application and I am a Certified Internet Webmaster Associate.

Teaching Experience:

I am teaching for last 5 years. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant over two years.I have been privately tutoring primary and secondary maths, A level maths and Economics on one-to-one basis since 2003. My academic education and teaching practices have given me a good understanding of the curriculum and of what makes effective teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

I make a conscious effort to ensure I am not just catering for visual learners like myself, but try to see lessons through other learners' eyes. For example, to introduce pictograms to numeracy entry level class, I got the learners to create 'human pictograms' arranged by name length, pets, eye colour, etc. and then transferred that information as pictograms to the board. Kinaesthetic learners were thereby catered for in the physical movement and manipulation, visual learners in the pictograms created on the board and audio learners as we discussed and interpreted the graphs.

I have in particular come to understand the value of sharing learning objectives and success criteria with students. Knowing exactly what is expected and how they can achieve allow learners to focus more clearly on tasks.

I feel it is important to make learning interesting and creative, and one way to achieve this is using real life example; this allows learners to explore and understand situations and express feelings, thoughts and emotions. An example of how I have successfully used real life situation was with a GCSE class, working out the area of the classroom to decide the correct amount of carpet needed for the classroom. I gave the students measuring tape to measure the length and width of the classroom. They were incredibly enthusiastic and threw themselves into the task. They found this a fun, enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience, which enabled them to better understand the situation and empathise with those concerned.

I have many years experience in teaching maths, physics, science, biology and computer studies with students in various backgrounds and various age level. I have been teaching to AQA, OCR and EDEXCEL examination boards. The levels are GCSE, IGCSE, AS and A2. Currently I am working as a supply teacher in Merseyside.

Tutoring Approach:

Understand the learning style of children and prepare lesson including teaching techniques to maximize the children learning. My focus is on building my learner confident and I always use simple methods that make concepts easy to understand. I try to interact as possible with children to take the lesson live and interesting during my tutorial time which help me to check the effective learning has occur and improve children thinking power during the lesson. I have studied in France, travelled and worked in Poland, France, Italy and England and finally settled a few years ago in North Wales. Speaking languages has influenced my whole life! Reflecting on my work history, the experience I gained as a language teacher has had the most significant impact on my career development giving me the most professional satisfaction. University studies in education for a Master's degree in Modern Languages and multiple stays in France enabled me to acquire native level spoken French. Following my passion for languages, I became enthusiastic about the Spanish and Italian cultures and tongues. Thanks to languages courses and opportunity to polish my communication skills in commercial contact with native speakers, I developed a high fluency level.

As a language teacher, I am always deeply involved in planning and preparation which allows me to deliver lessons to the highest standards. I use a variety of teaching methods, effective materials, and resources, giving learners opportunities to develop and practice their skills. I pay attention to teaching within a cultural context and being very creative I enjoy sourcing materials, making the learning process challenging and yet enjoyable. I am a huge advocate of using modern day technologies in the teaching and learning the process.

In my teaching career, I taught languages to a different range of ages, however, my approach is to look at my learners individually, from children to adults and tailor my teaching to personal needs. Although being a teacher can be a demanding career, the joy of seeing my learners' progress in their linguistic achievements is a highly satisfying reward.

I am a qualified child care worker who has cared for children for over twenty years. I am married with two grownup children and a grandson aged 11 years.

Teaching Experience:

While working in child care I was a storyteller providing activities such as books and puppets for role play. This helped develop children speech and social skills of all ages as the loved taking part. I also provided arts and craft to link with this which helped further develop the child's literacy.

I can also help provide support for anyone who is looking for help on their child care qualification as I have a head full of knowledge in Child Care.

Originally from Canada I have lived in Farnham UK for 6 years. I was Managing Partner of a software development company for 13 years in Toronto. We developed bespoke software applications used by Fortune 500 companies internationally. I started my career in software development, database design and interface design, eventually moving into project management, business management and consulting.
I have an honours Diploma in Information Systems and an MBA from the University of Toronto.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Computing at community college to both individuals and classrooms. I have taught large classes of adult learners in computer applications and business. I have recently been awarded a British Computer Society teaching scholarship and teach Computing at the Secondary level.

Tutoring Approach:

I take an individualised approach to tutoring, and target materials and approach to the students' needs. I'm happy to tutor both in person and online, though I have found a mix of both is often the best approach. Personal Description:
I am an Oxford graduate and current law student who is passionate about helping students of all ages master their studies and gain the confidence to succeed.

My background is a bit untraditional (I've done two BAs- one in the US and one in the UK), but between my two undergraduate degrees, I have been lucky enough to get the depth and focus of a British BA as well as the flexibility of an American BA. As a result of my background, I have a strong understanding of many subjects and the ability to adapt my thinking and teaching to different disciplines from the creative to the analytical.

I have a 2.i from my BA in Philosophy and Theology from Oxford, a First from my BA in Humanities with Pre-Med courses (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Calculus) at Providence College in the United States, and an IB Diploma. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Law last year and am currently in my final year of legal studies at BPP University.

In my spare time, I like to work on crossword puzzles (I even competed in a tournament last year) and a few other somewhat nerdy indulgences like board games, video games and, of course, Star Wars. I always make time for learning something new where I can, and, having recently worked out the ukulele, I am currently working (slowly) on picking up Japanese.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring different ages of students in various disciplines, from helping undergraduates improve their essay-writing skills and preparing Oxbridge applicants for interview to assisting primary-school and SEN students with reading, writing and maths. I love helping students build confidence and master topics they once thought too challenging.

One of my favourite subjects to tutor is English and writing. During my first BA, I worked as a writing tutor at my university's tutoring centre, where I helped students analyse literature, brainstorm essay topics, construct thesis statements and outlines, and revise essay drafts for clarity and grammar. Over the past year, I've helped not only GCSE and A-level students but also primary-school SEN students improve their writing skills and confidence.

I am also very excited to tutor in Philosophy. Last year, I had the great pleasure of preparing one of my tutees for a Philosophy interview at Cambridge by discussing various topics and texts and working on essays together each week. We both enjoyed our sessions together greatly, and I was absolutely delighted when she was offered a place.

Finally, I have also worked as a teaching and lab assistant for my university's chemistry department and so am used to adapting my instruction for students with different aptitudes, interests and skillets. As a chemistry lab assistant, I worked alongside a lecturer to help university chemistry students in group hands-on chemistry lab lectures improve their lab techniques and see how each experiment fit in with the curriculum.

Tutoring Approach:

I think the best way to learn something challenging is to let students work through the problem at their own pace until they can see the solution for themselves and build the skills they'll need to succeed in the future on their own, so it's very important for me when I tutor to make sure that the student is in the driver's seat. I like to let the tutee's needs guide each session, so I begin each tutorial by asking the student what he or she wants to focus on and what he or she is struggling with. Whether it's reading through an essay or working through a maths problem, I like to help students break down a complicated problem and let them guide me through their thought processes, correcting and instructing where necessary and encouraging the student during their successes. Of course, there will always be complicated topics that require a more didactic style of tutoring, but I think the Socratic method is much more effective not only for ensuring students truly understand the material, but also for empowering them and giving them confidence in their work.

I believe an important goal for a tutor should be to help her tutee gain confidence, as many students only seek tutoring after having struggled to grasp a concept fully on their own and thus often tend to underestimate their ability in the subject. This is especially true for SEN students, who have often been misunderstood by their teachers and peers. A tutor shouldn't be just an instructor- she should be a coach and cheerleader, too! I honestly believe there is nothing more rewarding than watching my tutees grow in knowledge and confidence over the course of our sessions together.

I also believe that, where possible, it's important to add a dash of something interesting to tutorials, especially with younger students. I've found that when a tutee is losing interest or struggling to engage with the material (often because they're having trouble understanding it), finding new ways to approach the problem, either through games, real-life application or creative thought experiments, can help a student get reacquainted with a subject they might have dismissed as uninteresting.

Personal Description:
My name is Iakovos and I am a qualified (holding QTS) and experienced teacher. I have been teaching Latin, Ancient Greek, Biblical Greek, Modern Greek, History and Religious Education since 2007. I studied Latin and Greek at the University of Ioannina, Greece.
