Personal Description:
Hello.

I am a graduate of Cambridge University. I was previously at a successful, all-girls, private school.

I have top grades in a wide range of GSCEs. I took Spanish, Latin, Ancient Greek and General Studies at A Level and passed with high A grades. I have a first class degree in Classics and Oriental Studies (Middle Eastern and Islamic)

People describe me as friendly and sociable as well as organised and efficient. In my Cambridge college I held various positions of responsibility.

Teaching Experience:

I also have lots of experience as a private tutor teaching all ages and ability ranges.

Most recently I was working as a full time teacher of English at the National School of Aleppo, Syria. I had two grade 6 classes and 4 grade 10 and 11 classes.

During July '08 I taught English as a foreign language at a school in Dubai, UAE. I had my own form class but during the school day I saw 60 children between the ages of 11 and 15.

I have also taught Shakespeare-based workshops to English Primary School children and Japanese High School and University Students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and supportive as a tutor; encouraging my pupils to stretch themselves and achieve their best.

Although I am only young, I feel that I have the right amount of maturity to guide my pupils effectively, and I am also very approachable. Tutoring is not the same as teaching in a classroom, so I do not believe that a Tutor should be the same as a teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

As a personal tutor I help learners to unlock their full potential. The environment of a large classroom often hinders results and limits development. I find that different approaches and environments improve results and increase enthusiasm to learn and the ability to work independently.
I aim to tailor tuition for the individual learner. At the intial session we agree a plan of action based on the learner's needs. We continue to review this plan as needs change. The tuition is intended to support study at school or college or individual study (eg distance learning courses). Sessions are informal but focussed and enjoyable. I set homework if required but prefer to concentrate on understanding and practice within the session.

Personal Description:
I am a student at the University of Oxford reading German. For my A Levels I studied German, English Literature and History and received A*, A* and an A. For AS I also did Mathematics and for my GCSE's I studied: Maths, Dual Science, English Literature, English Language, German, French, History, Art and Drama.

Teaching Experience:

I worked in a primary school for 6 months in my gap year, primarily teaching reading, writing and mathematics to the younger years as well as art, sport and IT skills. Previous to this job, I taught a German club at a local primary school and have worked on a charity literacy scheme, where I tutored reading and writing one on one to a child who was underachieving for his age group. I have also done other volunteer tutoring at a primary school, reading one on one with the children and improving their literacy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is best to discuss together what you feel you need help with or needs to be worked on and from there we can assess how best to proceed. I prefer you to bring your own material to me as from this I can see what it is you are struggling with, how advanced your school work is and the level you are aiming for.

Personal Description:
I am a teacher with over thirty years' classroom experience in both Primary and Secondary schools. I have taught in UK state schools as well as overseas.

Throughout my years in schools both home and abroad I have tutored Primary, Secondary and Adult students as a vocation as well as to supplement my income.

Teaching Experience:

My experience includes 12 years teaching English and History to GCSE and A level in the UK secondary system and eight years teaching the same subjects to the same levels in international schools in Italy, Egypt and Kenya.

During this time I have always had a number of students on my books for home tuition to provide extra help in Primary, Secondary and University level subjects.

My English GCSE students last year all achieved A-C grades and my A level History student achieved an A (predicted C after Year 12) and is now at university. In previous years, my A level History students have never achieved less than a C and in 2014, I had a student who reached A* and is now studying the subject at Exeter University.

Tutoring Approach:

In my long experience of tutoring I have seen the benefits in aptitude and confidence that pupils can gain from one-to-one tuition. In the unique one-to-one situation the teacher can inspire pupils to begin at last to see the relevance of subjects they find difficult to grasp in a high-pressure environment like school.

Once the pupil sees the need to master the subject I take them on to the next stage where they can undertake tasks which build up their confidence. It is also a means for me to ascertain what the pupil's strengths are and to build on them.

The next stage is the slightly more painful one of identifying weaknesses and gauging the pupil's awareness of them and motivation to put them right. Once the student and I have agreed which areas need improvement we use lesson time to extend competence and skills by undertaking thinking and written assignments that allow the student to develop these.

Any homework set will advance and reinforce the skills the pupil has been encouraged to bring to the lesson.

Personal Description:
A true renaissance man, Alex makes: mini epic films, video installations, games, photographs, sculpture, blogs and books. Using readily available materials and software the work often has a feeling of improvisation, an initial throwaway idea made visible.

Throughout his practice there is a sense of an acceptance of failure or disappointment as important parts of the human condition. He makes light with big issues and is, in turn, haunting and funny. His humorous sculpture typically conveys a sense of the accidental, eternally on the brink of failure or collapse. Recent DIY apocalypses, created from expanding builders' foam, seem to have an unruly, malevolent life of their own and explore the processes of invasion and infection. While his films and writing play with ideas of chance, quotidian struggles, the loss of control and responsibility.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a range of students of all ages and backgrounds from: National Diploma, Extended Diploma, Art Foundation, Degree to MA level.
I have experience in all fields of art and design but my specialist areas include: Sculpture, Drawing, Video, Art History, Cotextual Studies, Art Theory and installation.
I am expert at preparing students' portfolios for interview at Foundation and Degree level.
I am also able to advise in a number of areas of profesional practice including: Statement writing, CVs, recording work, publicity and basic website construction.
I have also had experience of teaching adults basic IT skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I am happy to tutor online and in person either in my own studio or by home visits (by bicycle)
I am an easy going and responsive tutor, happy to discuss individual student's needs and to guide them through all stages of their art and design career.

Personal Description:
My name is George, I am twenty-three years old and am currently working as an auditor and trainee Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales at Deloitte LLP.

I studied French and Spanish at the Russell Group University of Southampton, where I achieved a 2:1 grade (missing a First-Class by 1%) when I graduated in June 2015. During my time at university I spent a year abroad in Alicante, Spain where I studied at the local university and became a fluent Spanish speaker. I have maintained that level of Spanish to date by working on Spanish-speaking clients operating in Latin America as part of my job.

My French ability has declined since university due to lack of practice, though I am still capable of helping with assignments up to A-level standard with tutees.

I have recently completed the Professional Level of examinations with the ICAEW, meaning I am "part-qualified" and have completed 12 out of the 15 exams necessary to qualify. I passed all units comfortably on the first attempt despite conflicting pressures from work and short time-frames allotted to me to study. I have both the exam credentials mentioned here and 18 months (current) experience working as an auditor, which allow me to tutor accounting to a high level.

I enjoy relaxing with my friends, eating out, exploring London (my family is from Manchester area), many kinds of music, videogaming and following the world of rowing. I am generally a relaxed kind of guy to be around, easy to get on with, and pride myself in my ability to "take things easy" and not get stressed.

Teaching Experience:

I have no official previous teaching experience as such, however when I understand something well I have no difficulty explaining it to others in a clear manner.

As a second-year graduate at work I am often tasked with explaining accounting concepts and testing approaches to the first-years, which I have been doing with success for six months.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and non-pressuried style of teaching, and will be able to help the student feel at ease. I do not have access to any teaching material unavailable to the public online, so would need the student to have papers/worksheets/textbooks etc from school for us to work on/go through together, or any problems they may be encountering in their minds for us to resolve.

I would not call myself an academic, but my methods have enabled me to reach a good degree-level standard with my languages and to complete my professional accountancy exams relatively comfortably, and I would be more than happy to help others find a way to overcome any issues they may have with their studies.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker. I am friendly, approachable, patient and non-judgemental. I am passionate about French and English literature. I speak and write a good standard of English and French. I have successfully completed the course PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) (Level 4) at Strode College, Somerset. This is really useful in my role as a tutor.
I studied Philosophy and French literature up to the Baccalauréat in Brittany. I graduated in Brest University where I passed a degree (Deug) in English and American literature, English Grammar, linguistics, Phonetics, translation from English into French and vice-versa. The degree also included American and English History. I have the level of Licence in the same fields as above. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate. I offer a free 30mn consultation so you can see how I work and the materials I use for my sessions.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a full time private tutor for over three years now and enjoy this very much. I help teenagers improve their grades for GCSE French and I also successfully prepare students for A levels. My experience involves working with adult and teenage students. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of students such as someone needing to speak French for work. My work with GCSE students involves explaining from scratch the main points of grammar and guiding their pronunciation so students can perform better for oral and listening exams. At the moment, I am helping a student study the novel Madame Bovary more in depth. This is in preparation for the entry to University. This involves weekly sessions where I prepare questions in French for my student. I expect the student to prepare answers in French. We discuss in French the style of the novelist, the main themes, the protagonists, the plot etc. I spend time carefully preparing sessions with the view of increasing the fluency of students. In the course of the school year 2012-2013 I taught English (via skype) to one of my nieces and she achieved good grades in English for her Baccalaureat. At the same time, I also helped an A level student to study Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. I chose excerpts from the novel and prepared questions for the student. When we met, in addition to going through the prepared questions and analysis, I focused on the pronunciation, grammar and spelling plus vocabulary. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve their confidence in spoken and written French. I can help adults brush on their French or learn the language from a beginner's level up to an advanced level.
One of my students from Wales, Anne wrote: I would highly recommend Annie as a tutor to anyone learning French. She really knows her stuff - not just as a native French speaker but as a teacher who is tuned in to where a learner has problems and knowledge gaps. She is very helpful in supplying the information that you don't get in the textbooks and in providing insights into both written and spoken French. Add to that friendliness and a sense of humour and you have everything you could ask for in an expert language tutor.
Kate from Blagdon wrote this:
"Annie has a natural talent for teaching her native tongue. However, she backs this up with a useful knowledge of grammatical terms and rules, whilst also ensuring that the student is 'au fait' with colloquial French, both spoken and written. She has a knack of emphasizing the positive and endless patience when it comes to ensuring that the student has fully understood the point, as well as forgiving when s/he has (I have) forgotten it once again! Annie is both reasonable and flexible with a warm personality and a nice sense of humour. I have not a moment's hesitation in recommending that she become your French teacher if you are based in or near Glastonbury."
Rosie from Wells, Somerset: 'Annie is a very good French teacher, she is kind, smart, patient. My French has improved just after a few lessons and I really look forward to our next session together'.
The following is a comment by another student,Neil:' Our conversational French sessions are focused but flexible. Either of us can suggest a topic to talk about and we have covered a wide range of subjects. Annie writes a lot of useful notes as we go along. I take these away and regularly refer to them, they are great for revision. I like the fact that Annie can tell me what the French would really say as opposed to what it says in the dictionary. Importantly, we enjoy a laugh'.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to discuss with my students to know exactly what the students want to get from the lessons. I keep in mind that each student has different goals and motives to learn the language. I draw a learning plan to guide the students and myself. My tutoring sessions are tailor-made as students are different with different learning styles. I think it is important that students make progress and for this I think it is also important that the atmosphere be pleasant so I do like it when my students are enjoying their learning and progressing.

I like to focus on the pronunciation so students can be understood properly by French native speakers. It does make things easier for students when they travel to France or if they want to work there, for instance. I focus on the pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and spelling. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve their confidence in spoken and written French, I also provide tips regarding modern spoken French. While tutoring to beginners, I find that it is important to offer to students a good grasp of grammar as this enables students to start constructing little useful sentences on their own. I correct students on their pronunciation to give them a good start. I am aware that everyone is different and consequently I tend to teach according to the needs of each student. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate ( May 2013).

Personal Description:
My interests include cycling and cooking. I am married and have three daughters. My students appreciate my approachable and relaxed style of teaching. I worked as an industrial chemist for GSK and Avecia but retrained to become a teacher, this gives me a more rounded picture of chemistry and its application in real life situations.

Teaching Experience:

4 years at University level
3 years secondary schools
2 years at FE colleges
4 years home/online tutoring

Tutoring Approach:

Simple effective approach. Students need to succeed, I get students through exams as I have good subject knowledge and know how to teach. Students increase in confidence and gain a deeper understanding of chemistry. I teach using Skype and an online application called scribblar, this is really the future of home tutoring and is just as effective as if I am in the room with the student. Teaching Experience:

Teaching experience in schools

I arrived in the UK in 2009 as a Foreign Language Assistant. I was teaching French in rural primary schools around Suffolk.

After my PGCE, I started working at Thomas Gainsborough School as a French teacher. I have taught primary school students at local primary schools (Wells Hall, Bures Primary School, Nayland Primary School) and pupils from Year 7 to Year 13. I have a very good knowledge of the GCSE and A-level exams.

I have also taught Spanish to students in Year 7, 8 and 9.

Other teaching experience (private tutoring)
-I have taught French to two mature students, for leisure. I was teaching them according to their needs: one student wanted to discuss the news and I was printing articles that we would study. I also helped this student taking care of paper work related to her house in France. My other student only wanted to practise the speaking, therefore we would speak in French for about one hour.

-I have taught French to two secondary school students who purely loved the French language. We would do games, grammar, speaking activities and we even made some crêpes!

Tutoring Approach:

I will tailor my lessons to your needs or the needs of your child. I can teach French to beginners, help with homework, re-explain what wasn't understood in the classroom, study novels or simply have a chat.

Personal Description:
I am a student currently pursuing my MEng in Civil Engineering at Imperial College London. I finished my A-levels last year at Wellington College, Berkshire, UK, where I achieved 3A*s 1A. I currently live in a student hall in central London (Kensington) and am willing to travel small distances for tutorial classes. I am undoubtedly strongest in teaching science/math-based subjects such as KS3/GCSE/A-levels maths, physics and chemistry as proven from my A-level results.

Having only recently finished my A-Levels, I believe I am very familiar with the current UK education system. Besides, I feel I can relate and communicate with children, teenagers easily due to our narrow age gaps. This definitely helps learning because communication is key in tutorials.

In terms of language, I achieved 8/9 marks in the IELTS exam, which proves my English language proficiency.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring back in Hong Kong, where I travelled to kids and teenagers aged from 9-16 for tutorials. When I arrived at England for my sixth-form studies, I volunteered in teaching younger students (GCSE) at my school weekly. I have also been to Eagle House, a prep school which has ties with Wellington College, for tutorials with younger students.

Tutoring Approach:

First things first, tutorials has to be interactive and fruitful at the same time. I have experienced the difference between boring, too-intensive tutorials and interactive, interesting and productive tutorials, so my tutees definitely won't experience boring, harsh and unbearable tutorials.

Every lesson consists of these targets which should be completed:

1) recap of materials learnt in school
2) Q&A session between tutee and myself
3) focus on homework
4) focus on difficult, tricky concepts
5) final recap and a few questions from me for consolidation

Throughout the course of tutorials, I will spot the weakness of particular topics of my tutee, and further focus on it.

During exam periods:

1) exam strategies and techniques
2) past-papers (KEY!!)
3) extra lessons if needed

If my tutees have any questions, I would be able to answer them via Skype, telephone, text or social media.
