Personal Description:
I am a Investment Modeller for an Enery Firm.I develop financial models to help the firm to make major investment decisions in the UK.

I am Msc, Finance from LSE and consider myself as a person who makes complex formulae simple.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught mathematics to the University, A Level & GCSE students. Most of them have done well and are thorough professionals in their respective fields. Most of them are software engineers.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in making complex formulae simple. I do that by linking a problem to commonsense or everyday life.

So, there is no need of memorising formulae. Even if you forget it, just remember the story I told you to remember the formulae !

My tutoring approach will depend on the students learning ability, I can differentiate the student according to different range of ability and then work according to that.
I believe that tutoring should in most cases supplement the teaching that is received at school. I will focus on any difficulties that the student is facing and also concentrate on answering exam questions - especially answering techniques. If the student requires more extensive teaching of the syllabus then I will happy to go through this in further detail.
I honestly believe that a Teacher hasn't taught until the student has learnt.

Personal Description:
Hi. My name is Llinos. I am 37 and live in Eastleigh near Southampton. I currently work part time as a History teacher in a senior state school. I have previously been Head of History in a very successful senior girls' grammar school and in private prep school. I have also had several History teaching roles up to A2 level as well as teaching Maths and English up to year 8.

Over the last 14 years I have taught a wide range of History topics at all levels and to a wide variety of abilities from EAL students to preparation for Oxbridge interviews. I have also prepared pupils up to 13 for the Common Entrance English examination and have provided on-going support in English focussing on literacy, grammar etc.

I work for OCR as an A Level and GCSE examiner so am fully aware of the requirements needed to attain the best grade possible here. I have also attended several INSETS of the other main exam boards at both GCSE and A Level as well as the most recent meeting for History at Common Entrance level so have a very good knowledge of all public examinations.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching History for over 14 years. I taught in a very high achieving boys' grammar school (Reading School) forc2 years before becoming Head of History in a very high achieving girls' school (Kendrick).
I taught all years including GCSE and A level and think that I have covered all main exam boards and many of the topics taught at all levels. Most girls gained A*-A grades at both levels.

I also ran the Berkshire group for the Learning Skills Council to work to improve attainment at A Level for all abilities as well as presenting at LSC conferences on study skills and how to stretch the most able in History.

I then taught in a private girls school where my duties involved helping pupils with English as a second language gain a higher-level pass at A Level as well as teaching all years of mixed ability including GCSE and A Level classes.

Until recently, I worked in a prep school as Head of History and delivered one-to-one lessons with all of my year 8 pupils in preparation for their exams. Last year, my class of 18 very mixed ability pupils all gained A*-B in their Common Entrance History exam.
I have also taught English, Geography, Maths and RS at secondary level.

Tutoring Approach:

I have done much work on study skills, particularly mind-mapping, and learning styles. It is a bit of a passion that I have in addition to the History!

I love teaching pupils one-to-one and working out what is going to be the best method (or methods) of learning for them. I also see that the problem can sometimes be happening at a very basic level to a large extent. For example - if a student is just sent off to 'make notes' without ever having been actually guided in HOW to make these notes.

I don't really think I have an 'approach' in general as I truly believe that, in a one-to-one situation, methods can and should be completely tailored to the specific needs of that individual pupil.
Depending on those needs, I can work with students to produce specific and useful sets of notes, work on examiantion technique, provide extensive essay feedback, help them recognise how to remember specific historical details and which ones to bother learning etc.

Personal Description:
An enthusiastic and dynamic multilingual tutor with a variety of teaching experiences at all levels in three different countries (France, Romania, England).

Over 8 years of experience as a qualified multilingual teacher/proofreader/translator in the study of French and English language.

Teaching Experience:

8 years of private tuition (French/ English) to children and adults in Romania, France and England;
5 years teaching and tutoring French and English in Romania
3 years of tutoring in France

This total immersion in a French environment with native speakers hugely contributed to my understanding of the French culture and behaviour, as well as their way of addressing and solving matters.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I consider the student's progress even after a few lessons to be the most important aim and reason for my work.

The pleasure I take in teaching foreign languages comes especially from my wish to instill into my students a love for the beauty and mystery of a new linguistic field and new semantic world. One of my biggest contentments is to share my knowledge and interest with them and then acknowledge their progress in this domain. My purpose is not only to work with passion but also to enable my students to enlarge their horizons so they are able to quickly compare, assimilate and develop their swiftness when communicating in a foreign language.

In other words, I target with priority:

-the valorization of the student's potential,
-the diversity of the amount of information that each student assimilates
-the enthusiasm and the interactive atmosphere during the lessons

I find that the level at which each student begins with is not important as long as there is a visible progress between the start and the finish of the tuition.

The basis of my lessons consists of the notions which everyone needs in order to know a foreign language, aspects related to the cultural and the real life and the attention on the typical rules of the foreign language.

With delight and interest I concentrate on the efficient use of a variety of media (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) which could animate the lessons.

My eagerness and determination to learn and teach foreign languages (French, English and Italian) developed my interest in analyzing, comparing and synthesizing information as well as enabling me to discover various methods of teaching a considerable amount of knowledge. Through assiduity and responsibility I managed to find the path towards mastering these foreign languages and teaching them with enthusiasm.

Foreign languages are a source of mystery, a mix of rules and originality, a mine of meanings and linguistic surprises, a challenge. I've always found them a very absorbing and fulfilling but sometimes frustratingly vast field which attracts and challenges to a thorough study and wider analysis.

I learned that paying close attention to quality of all my work and grasping opportunities to learn new skills must be prioritized by professional workers.

1) "The first thing that struck me (as an American native speaker) is the remarkable fluency of her oral and written French, which is of a very high academic calibre.
I appreciated her openness and intellectual acuity. In short, it was truly a pleasure to have her as a tutor.
I was also impressed by her discretion, politeness and ability to work with her students and encourage them to progress and love French as one of the most beautiful language in this world."

2) "I find Giorgiana's teaching method easy to follow, however thorough. She very well manages to alternate my two languages (English and Romanian) and make references to the similarities between my languages and French. This helps me understand better because she can then refer to a rule in a language that also applies in French and I can use that to remember the French rule better. After she shows me something, she always ensures that I have taken in the lesson and have listened carefully, testing me on what she has just taught me. To consolidate the learning, she regularly gives me work to complete before our next lesson. Thanks to Giorgiana's tuition, I am now ahead of my class and my teacher is very impressed!"
Maria R., 12 years old student.

3) "I noticed she was a very intelligent person, motivated, with genuine working aptitudes, treating the teaching profession with the maximum of responsibility and seriousness. She belongs to that category of people with a high spirit of undertaking interesting and useful methods, updated in her domain and in other fields as well.
She really has pedagogical tact, knows how to adapt to the public and catch its attention through a mix of gentleness, patience and amiability."

Personal Description:
Born in Edinburgh, I was raised in India and then Africa, before returning to the UK. Having lived in London and South East England since then, our family moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2012, primarily to raise our children in a less chaotic and more natural environment. We've had no regrets at all...and our various dogs and cats are similarly happy with the move!

I have always been passionate about English, from the weekly spelling tests and grammar exercises of primary school to the privilege of being taught at A Level by Tolkien's grandson. His vibrant, interactive approach shaped my ongoing learning and fired my imagination. After leaving Edinburgh University with a Masters in English Language and Literature, I went on to take a TEFL qualification and used this when travelling abroad in Turkey and throughout the Caribbean. I am delighted that I continue to work in the area of EAL with overseas students in British schools, and that technology has allowed me to work with individuals in their home countries, via Skype.

My love of English directed my career, working first at the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming an independent theatre producer in London, and a theatre advertising executive on accounts such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Les Miserables'.

In 2008, my partner and I began the home education of our two children at primary stage. It was both challenging and inspirational and the experiences and knowledge I gained during those years - not purely academic, but also the different ways and methods of learning, the different developmental stages of children, the different learning styles of children - continue to inform my present day tutoring.

While home educating, and with my love of theatre, I founded an educational theatre group, Active Arts, with Margo Gunn, a teacher and director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. We worked with a wide age range of home educated and mainstream school children, providing workshops on various Shakespeare plays including 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Tempest' and 'Romeo & Juliet'. Workshops were also designed specifically in support of GCSE/IGCSE work. As passionate advocates of Shakespeare, our approach was active and energetic, lifting Shakespeare off the page and introducing his plays, his language and his theatricality in an engaging and tangible manner. I was thrilled to be able to resurrect this work in the Highlands, initially at a local primary school, conducting 4 workshops for Primary 4-Primary 7, resulting in workshop presentations of 'The Tempest' and 'Macbeth'.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to home educating my two children and running Active Arts, my personal and professional lives led me into private tutoring and I have been a private tutor in English Language and Literature since 2009, working alongside children and young people from age 5 upwards, whether on general literacy issues, EAL or focusing specifically on exam work, from SATS, Nationals and GCSEs, through to A Levels, Highers and beyond. Tutees have been those in mainstream state schools, leading UK private schools and home education, following the English and Scottish curriculums, as well as IGCSEs with providers including Cambridge, OOL and Edexcel.

A number of my tutees have challenges such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette's and dyslexia, and the combination of experience, research and support courses have built my knowledge and understanding in these areas.

While I am registered with tutoring agencies, many of my tutees come via personal recommendation and I was delighted that tutees I had worked with in England chose to continue working with me via Skype after our move to Scotland.

Critically, I am PVG checked, and would be happy to provide evidence of this, together with references and qualification documentation.

Tutoring Approach:

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
My approach is not one of 'dip in and out' for an hour, or 'one size fits all', but of creating a relaxed, enjoyable, constructive atmosphere and building a relationship within which the young person's potential can be maximised, against a tailored, individual approach. While texts and challenges might be shared by various tutees, learning styles, atmospheres for learning, methods for learning, will always be different.
As importantly, my approach places great value on the parents, their involvement and their right and need for clear, ongoing and comprehensive communication. As such, I am often in regular contact with both my tutees and their parents, should they require it, outside of tutorials.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited."
Plutarch

If you're looking for a desk-based tutor, one who does all the talking and expects your child to just sit and listen, I am not the right person for you.

If you're looking for someone to ignite a love of English, to build confidence, to be energetic, to make learning enjoyable, active, off the page, accessible, then, here I am!

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
For many young people with whom I work, English and everything to do with it - their texts, their homework, punctuation, close reading, writing an essay - is a minefield. Often, what holds them back is a mixture of low confidence, fear of getting it wrong, and simply not having grasped the 'map' of how to 'do it'.

One of my main motivations, is to make English accessible; to take away the fear factor, to provide clear and simple structures, to grasp some key exam techniques, to demystify the exam paper, to clarify what the heck the exam paper is testing them on; to remind tutees that they have, naturally, learned one of the most difficult languages in the world and are fully capable of expressing themselves on paper, under pressure and against time.

However whimsical it may sound, as with many things in life, self-belief and understanding are powerful tools for success.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
The demand for private tutoring is growing exponentially. As The Telegraph reported in 2012, "more than a quarter of parents use private tutoring to supplement their children's education", spending "6bn a year in the UK." A double page spread in Femail, February 2015, states research that almost 1 in 4 children are now privately tutored, with pupils at private schools almost twice as likely to have private tutoring than those from state schools. Whatever explanation there is for this rise, cost to parents remains an obvious barrier to its provision.

I am, of course, a 'business', but I also firmly believe that access to tutoring should be made as wide as possible; education is a right and not a privilege. As such, while I have a standard rate for 1-1 tutoring, I am also very happy to discuss your requirements with you and to look at options available, such as small group tutoring where the cost per head can be significantly reduced.

Please do take the opportunity of discussing your requirements with me, rather than potentially losing the opportunity of providing tutorial support for your child.

Personal Description:
I am a Spanish woman from Barcelona who studied Hispanic Studies. I have been living in Bristol for 1 year and 8 months. I finished my degree in 2014, I completed my last year at the University of Bristol with a Erasmus Scolarship. The scolarship gave me the opportunity to come to the UK and improve my English.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have too much experience as a teacher due to I have obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Hispanic Studies in 2014. But I used to teach Spanish in Spain to some children who needed to get better grades in this subject and I currently teach Spanish in a Secondary School to a group of English students who are going to take the A level Exam in May.

Tutoring Approach:

I am interested in focusing my lessons on the Speaking skills. I think that comunication is the most important part for those students who are learning a foreign language and want to speak with people using this language. At the same time, I got my Honors in Grammar and Linguistics, and I like teaching Grammar because, obviously, the students need to learn a basic knowledge of how the new language works to be able to speak properly. If my students are children I show them the Grammar part playing games to make them enjoy and learn at the same time.

Personal Description:
Enthusiastic with a restless intelligence, thirsty for knowledge, always keen to discover more, I am continually fascinated by the interplay between culture and society. I have expert knowledge in English and American Literature, the history of cinema, and the development of western philosophy. I resigned from my post as head of department at a large comprehensive school so that I would have more time to write my book comparing the films of Preminger and Hitchcock. Freed from the administrative demands of a school, I have even more energy and creativity to devote to teaching, and will have a powerfully positive impact on whoever I tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have over thirty years' experience in a wide variety of educational contexts: at universities in Britain and abroad, in comprehensive schools, FE colleges, language schools and professional training. I have worked as a A Level examiner and moderator for over ten years, so understand exactly what students need to do to impress markers, and can advise on how to avoid mediocrity. I have been tutoring online for two years, and find that the level of concentration in a Skype session is usually higher than in person: the start is crisper, the learning more focused.

Tutoring Approach:

Fun, exciting, inspiring. I love the stimulating variety of one-to-one tuition. Over the years, I have adapted my plans, materials and methods to meet the specific needs, aims and expectations of an extremely wide variety of learners in terms of ability, personality and specialisation. At one end of the scale, I trained Swedish officers in media relations ahead of their deployment with the UN in Bosna, and spent eight weeks one-to-one with the head of personnel of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, improving his presentation skills. At the other end of the scale, I had notable success tutoring a teenager with emotional and behavioural difficulties who had been permanently excluded from school for violence, and was in local authority care. Working with him individually for three hours a day, concentrating on English, Maths and History, I had a very positive and potentially transformative impact. At every point in scale, I treat individuals with respect and dedication, determined to help them achieve their potential.
