Personal Description:
I'm a ex-mathematical physicist from Cambridge turned film director, and also freelance as a data-scientist. I have two funded feature films in development and have made music videos and adverts. I started tutoring when I switched careers because the film industry is unstable, especially as a freelancer. I keep up the tutoring now because I enjoy it and look for assignments I think are interesting and where I can really make a difference.

I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in and education in general. Education forms the foundation for freeing us from bigotry and ignorance, makes us better people and permits us to live richer, better lives. Knowledge is liberating and my subjects especially open many doors. They are not easy and require a willingness to work hard, but I strongly believe that anyone can get to grips with them if given the correct guidance. Most often the problem is not the student but a poor teacher, unresolved conceptual difficulties or lack of motivation. I want to fix these issues for you.

I'd say my approach to education is rigorous, highly intellectual and what one might term renaissance in approach. I'm interested in all aspects of education, and how our disparate academic disciplines connect which is somewhat antithetical to the modern approach to education but just the sort of thing one needs to get into Oxbridge and the like.

Why is tutoring important to me? Firstly, I feel it is my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills I have attained; secondly, I find it satisfying to help others learn and achieve what they did not think possible, regardless of their ability; and finally, I think one of the best ways to assess your own understanding of a subject is to teach it; we learn the most about our areas of expertise when we try convey their concepts and methods to an audience.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many (over 100) students privately over the past six years, improving their results in all cases where the students have followed my advice and worked hard. I'm only interested in teaching people who are prepared to do this work and better themselves, especially if its for something like the 11+/common entrance.

Beside the subjects listed in my profile, I will also teach 11+/common entrance, coding/game design, statistics and probability, film-making, creative writing, government and politics, economics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and I persevere. I am happy to tutor people across all ranges of ability but I expect you to work hard and follow my advice.

My tutoring includes:

- encouragement of free and critical thinking
- varying teaching methods depending on what the student is most receptive to including: problem based learning, discourse, traditional exercises, experiments, lectures
- exam preparation
- confidence building
- resolution of conceptual difficulties
- helping with homework
- homework marking
- undergraduate and postgraduate application advice
- coaching for Oxbridge entrance including the STEP papers
- interview advice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- email contact throughout the week to resolve your problems as an when they arise
- group tuition

Please note (a) while I am based in Hackney, I will cover all areas of London; (b) I can offer reductions for group sessions.

Teaching Experience:

I work as a freelance composer, performer and music teacher. As a music teacher I teach piano, accordion, music theory and
music composition, both for beginners and advanced students. I have been teaching music for the last 5 years. I have taught
people of all ages, from children to adults. I am currently a PhD candidate specialising in composition at Trinity College of Music.

I have taught piano at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, from 2006 to 2009, specialising on beginners and intermediate level students. I have been teaching piano, accordion, theory and composition privately since I came to London in 2009, to both children and adults.

In piano playing and teaching I specialise on classical music but I am also open to other styles, including popular music.
In accordion playing and teaching I specialise in classical music and Greek folk music.
In composition teaching, I prefer to let the student choose their preferred style. I do, however, specialise in contemporary classical music, ranging from acoustic to purely electronic music.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that I have a good way to communicate with children and I am a very patient person. I am very receptive to my student's needs and I am willing to help and guide them into solving any problems related to music they might have. I always try to find the simplest way to communicate my ideas or what a music piece requires. I will always bear in mind what my student's opinions and needs are and try to adjust my teaching around these.

Personal Description:
I am friendly and caring mother and teacher, and I love working with children of all ages. I am extravert, bright and bubbly in character. I am passionate about teaching science and maths in creative and fun ways to stimulate and inspire my students. I have a first class honours degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University and have excellent subject knowledge.

At present I run a tutoring business called Rutland Genie for ages 5 to 16+, teaching science, maths, violin and recorder.

I love walking, running, cycling and being outdoors. I am happiest up a mountain! I enjoy music and play the violin. I love going to the cinema, theatre and really enjoy the west end musicals. I am a keen photographer and enjoy making photo books.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE from Oxford University, specialising in science. I have taught in both primary and secondary schools, and did quite a bit of tutoring when my children were small. I have tutored both in the daytime and the evenings covering 2 home-education situations, preparation for SATs and entrance exams, and help with GCSE Maths and Science. I have an excellent track record of success.

Tutoring Approach:

I love tutoring as it enables me to both build a positive relationship with my tutee and watch them gain in confidence and subject knowledge. I have a huge amount of home resources and can offer a practical element to each lesson.

Personal Description:
I am a freelance software developer and professional trainer who also provides one-to-one personal tuition services in computing, programming and IT related subjects. I took my first steps in programming as long ago as 1981, and have been a professional software developer since 1987. Along with the teaching and training side of my career, I develop software and web-sites for my clients, and I have been published several times in respected programming-journals.

I am also a BBC preferred-supplier, and am a Professional member of the Association for Computing Machinery (founded in 1947 - the world's largest and most prestigious scientific and educational computing society).

Teaching Experience:

I have provided private-tuition services since 1992, and was a lecturer at Roehampton University from September 1998 to October 1999. I have provided professional training services since 1999, during which time I have delivered over 100 professional courses in programming and software design and development, for companies in the aircraft industry, computer gaming, banking, web development and the BBC.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching and training pivots on the most important factor - passion for one's subject. I attempt to demonstrate to the student the power and beauty of what computing and programming involves, and place a firm emphasis on explaining concepts in the simplest and most day-to-day terms.

In the sphere of private tuition for children and young adults, I have found that working through past exam-papers with the pupil or student is an extremely effective way of helping the individual's understanding and exam performance to improve.

In the sphere of the professional training I provide, clients cite frequently my passion for the subject, the original and clear explanations that I use, and the depth of my technical understanding, as the factors of note in their view of my services.

Personal Description:
Let me introduce myself. My name is John. I graduated from Sheffield University in the 1970s where I studied French and German. It was while teaching in a lycee in South West France as part of my course that I really developed a love of language and foreign travel. I subsequently went on to Liverpool University where I obtained a postgraduate teaching qualification. My teaching career extended over a number of years in a variety of schools in the public and private sector, including a spell as head of languages. In 2002 I studied to teach English as a foreign language. I was surprised to discover that teaching my native language in all its complexities gave me a valuable insight into teaching other languages, not just my own.

Teaching Experience:

As previously mentioned the majority of my teaching lay in mainstream education, where exam preparation was of great importance. In addition, I have enjoyed teaching adults at evening and day classes. I currently teach English as a foreign language to home-stay visitors, but my main efforts are concentrated on private tuition to school children or adults.

Tutoring Approach:

Language learning can be easy, as long as it is varied and well structured. My basic method involves firstly presenting to the student the required vocabulary and grammatical structures, and then familiarizing him or her with them; this can be achieved through verbal drills, short exercises, word games etc. Once they are reasonably well acquired, they are put into a more practical context, imitating as far as possible real life situations e.g. 'asking directions in the street'.For this I use role play, sometimes involving what is called 'information gap', where the student must find out some practical piece of information solely by using the foreign language involved. Many students come to me because, simply put, they have lost the plot! Either they have experienced poor teaching or, for whatever reason, they have become de-motivated. In this case I would spend additional time practising verb formations etc - it is often grammatical structures which have fallen by the wayside.
My overall approach is friendly, but with high expectations. New tutees receive the first lesson free of charge, so that an assessment can be made as to the teaching required.

Personal Description:
I'm a trained CELTA teacher with a passion for languages and music. I'm a bilingual native English and Spanish speaker and I'm also fluent in Italian as I lived and got my university degree in Rome.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught languages privately (English, Spanish and Italian) for 10 years to all levels and ages ranging from 5 to 70 years old. I currently teach English at a language school in Totnes as well as private one-to-one Italian and Spanish lessons and adult Italian group lessons in the South Hams area.

Tutoring Approach:

The overall approach to my teaching is communicative and the lessons are tailored to the learner's individual needs, whether it is preparation for an exam or work on specific skills and/or language functions. Initially, there would be a meeting with the student and, in the case of children, their parents, to determine the goals they want to achieve with the tutoring. I would be happy to provide written reports on the progress to the child's parents if required or arrange for meetings.

Personal Description:
I am a UK qualified and General Medical Council registered doctor, five years post qualification. I very much enjoy teaching both in my work and in my spare time and really strive to get the best out of pupils. I firmly believe simple but effective strategies in our working and teaching methods can have dramatic impact on a student's progress. I also find memory techniques and the psychology of learning fascinating and attempt to keep up to date in my teaching methods to ensure a student wastes no time in their work. Being originally from an arts background and moving into the scientific- I believe this blend gives me a unique insight into the best ways to teach and learn. I am so passionate about this I have written two teaching books to attempt to make learning more exciting for students.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide range of clinical and teaching experience including:

-Acute medicine
-Care of the elderly
-Accident and Emergency
-General Surgery
-Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
-Orthopaedic Surgery
-General Practice
-Remote Medicine (Military)
-History
-Biology

Tutoring Approach:

Every student is different, and we all learn in different ways. I will make sure that I deliver tailored teaching specific to the individual student's needs.

Please let me know what you are looking for and I will do my best to help you progress.
