Personal Description:
I'm a ex-mathematical physicist from Cambridge turned film director, and also freelance as a data-scientist. I have two funded feature films in development and have made music videos and adverts. I started tutoring when I switched careers because the film industry is unstable, especially as a freelancer. I keep up the tutoring now because I enjoy it and look for assignments I think are interesting and where I can really make a difference.

I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in and education in general. Education forms the foundation for freeing us from bigotry and ignorance, makes us better people and permits us to live richer, better lives. Knowledge is liberating and my subjects especially open many doors. They are not easy and require a willingness to work hard, but I strongly believe that anyone can get to grips with them if given the correct guidance. Most often the problem is not the student but a poor teacher, unresolved conceptual difficulties or lack of motivation. I want to fix these issues for you.

I'd say my approach to education is rigorous, highly intellectual and what one might term renaissance in approach. I'm interested in all aspects of education, and how our disparate academic disciplines connect which is somewhat antithetical to the modern approach to education but just the sort of thing one needs to get into Oxbridge and the like.

Why is tutoring important to me? Firstly, I feel it is my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills I have attained; secondly, I find it satisfying to help others learn and achieve what they did not think possible, regardless of their ability; and finally, I think one of the best ways to assess your own understanding of a subject is to teach it; we learn the most about our areas of expertise when we try convey their concepts and methods to an audience.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many (over 100) students privately over the past six years, improving their results in all cases where the students have followed my advice and worked hard. I'm only interested in teaching people who are prepared to do this work and better themselves, especially if its for something like the 11+/common entrance.

Beside the subjects listed in my profile, I will also teach 11+/common entrance, coding/game design, statistics and probability, film-making, creative writing, government and politics, economics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and I persevere. I am happy to tutor people across all ranges of ability but I expect you to work hard and follow my advice.

My tutoring includes:

- encouragement of free and critical thinking
- varying teaching methods depending on what the student is most receptive to including: problem based learning, discourse, traditional exercises, experiments, lectures
- exam preparation
- confidence building
- resolution of conceptual difficulties
- helping with homework
- homework marking
- undergraduate and postgraduate application advice
- coaching for Oxbridge entrance including the STEP papers
- interview advice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- email contact throughout the week to resolve your problems as an when they arise
- group tuition

Please note (a) while I am based in Hackney, I will cover all areas of London; (b) I can offer reductions for group sessions.

Personal Description:
I did my undergraduate degree at St Andrews University and postgrad at Durham University; I've just returned from a year on research in the US. I love teaching and work for the Open University, which involves finding innovative ways to teach a large range of topics to students from 18 to 70 years old, which always makes for an interesting experience. I'm living in Newcastle and love the North East in general.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching at degree level since 2002, I have over 250 hours of face-to-face teaching experience.

I also have a Durham Teaching and Learning Award, a peer- and student- nominated annual prize given to 3-5 teachers in the university to recognise outstanding achievement.

I've taught in both the Philosophy and Theology & Religion departments of Durham University, as well as teaching Introductions to Arts & Humanities for the Open University. I frequently teach study skills and help address specific students' concerns about how to improve.

My experience also includes work in the Access/Widening Participation arena, and I have taught a variety of topics for the 14-18 age range, including work on the Sutton Trust Summer School programme.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is best summed up as "everyone is different". Finding out what someone enjoys, what they're good at, and how they think, is the first step in helping them get the most they can out of any topic or situation. The ways that people learn, and the things that fire their imaginations, are diverse - but the expectations of coursework and exams don't always recognise that. I see my job as not simply preparing people to pass a test or master a skill, but as helping them to discover what works best for them as a student, and giving them the confidence to approach new challenges successfully.

Personal Description:
I am a 46 year old father of four children, the oldest having just left University. As a father of four I have a lot of experience in knowing how to motivate children and how to develop the necessary skills they need to either pass exams or for enhancing life skills. I live on the edge of the South Downs in a small cottage with my family, a dog, a cat and numerous chickens.

Teaching Experience:

I came into teaching as a mature student after spending 15 years in the catering and wholesale business. My first training came with the Sussex Wildlife trust where I helped run the outdoor field sessions for pupils from year 1 to A level studies. I then trained on the GTP course at schools in Brighton and then Burgess Hill before working at Ringmer Community College as Head of Geography. For the last 5 years I have been Head of Humanities at a private school in Kent, where I have been teaching GCSE Philosophy, Geography & History and A Level Philosophy and Geography.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an open approach to tutoring and emphasise self learning and confidence building with the student being the focus and seeing how they want to develop their own skills. I will discuss, motivate and lead a student to query the topics we look at and then work with them to develop their exam skills.

Currently a qualified Chemistry teacher responsible for educating young learners from S1 to S6. Experience teaching in 6 Scottish Schools delivering a range of certificated courses and 1 international school; in addition to observing learning and teaching in 2 British Military schools in Germany and state education in Bad Oehnhausen, Germany. Have regularly tutored Chemistry for the past 3 years.

Teaching Experience:

Responsible for providing education from CfE Level 3 to Advanced Higher. Depth of tutoring experience from young learners looking to pass to high achievers wanting to excel. Broad range of teaching experiences and interactions with a variety of different learners.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I always strive to get the best out of each of my tutees. I tutor in a structured manner using a variety of methods. I am always willing to adapt the way I tutor allowing me to get the most out of each child. I ensure that I keep a professional relationship at all times but always make certain that my tutees know that they can approach me with any queries they may have. I believe that I help to build a child's confidence in the subject and assure them that there is no silly question that they can ask. As I am currently preparing my own pupils for their exams I am very up to date with what is expected within the exams. I am able to use this experience to help benefit anyone I tutor as I have a vast range of resources readily available all of which will be offered as aids to anyone I tutor. I always have a huge variety of past paper questions and sample answers to help prepare the tutee for their examinations.

Personal Description:
Bonjour! My name is Samantha and I am from Bordeaux, a region famous for its wine. I am a qualified and experienced teacher. I have been living in the UK for many years and, after working in different roles in the educational system, I decided to undertake a French teaching qualification. The course was really stimulating and learning about pedagogy was particularly interesting. I have enjoyed teaching ever since.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide experience of teaching on a one to one basis as well as small group from the very young to adults. I am familiar with the curriculum for French GCSE and A Level.
I also teach University students, supporting them with grammar and conversation.
I have experience teaching French to adults from basic knowledge for holidays up to advanced level.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor lessons to what the student requires. I respect each student`s pace of work and way of learning and try to help them to fulfill their potential.
I make lessons interesting, stimulating and adapted to my clients' needs.
I am aware that tutees have different learning style and therefore I offer a variety of exercises.
I use different materials such as videos, images, magazines, music and the latest Course books from L'alliance Française as well as my own creation.
I empathize with my students because I had to learn English myself. Therefore, I know it can be difficult to learn a foreign language and even frustrating at times but also very rewarding. That is why, I make students aware of their progress on a regular basis.
I love teaching and I have had some very good feedback from my students. I am a friendly, patient and approachable person.

Personal Description:
I have been an English teacher since moving to Asia in 2010. I have also studied intensive Mandarin at university in mainland China & Taiwan. I have been speaking Mandarin for 11 years now and use it daily in my life. For a period of 2 years I hardly even spoke English so as to improve my own Mandarin skills while immersing myself in Chinese society. I love watching movies & writing books. I do many sports including Parkour, climbing & archery. I always love to learn a new language and love teaching too. Love animals & pushing myself to do things. I'm positive about life & very friendly.

Teaching Experience:

For more than 8 years I have taught the English language to non native speakers throughout Asia and I have also taught beginner to intermediate level Mandarin to other foreigners in China. I have taught pre school children up through to high school and university level and even the elderly. I would say my strong points for teaching Mandarin are as follows: Spoken Chinese (How it's really used), formal and informal colloquial speaking, listening and understanding. I can also read traditional & simplified Chinese characters and write many.

Tutoring Approach:

My belief is that anyone can learn a language whether difficult or easy or if you have a hard time remembering things. There are ways and methods that can get your chosen language to stick in your head thus improving your skills quickly through the levels. My approach is to take a lesson, break it down into pieces & explain the exact meanings and the structure of what you're actually saying while drilling the characters into your head (Not literally)
>..< Also making it a fun and situational environment where you will learn how to really use your chosen language, therefore improving quickly and easily without feeling lost or frustrated. Instead you will be able to speak a new language within just a few months.

Personal Description:
University degree as a Russian-English linguist and a teacher. I am fully qualified to teach 'Russian for Work and Life', A-level, Higher Russian. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to study a foreign language. Native Russian speaker, I also speak Bulgarian and Romanian and I used to study German and French.

I have recently moved to Scotland, where my daughter, who also knows more than 4 languages, has become a student doctor. As a mother and a teacher, I strongly believe that the learning process should be enjoyable in order to achieve the best results.
I have different interests: from reading classical literature to skiing, from cooking to playing tennis, from travelling to knitting, from dogs to....cats :-)
People who know me say that I am a cheerful and friendly person.

Teaching Experience:

At present, teaching at a Glasgow University, at Glasgow schools, at a language school, also, to bilingual children at the Russian Scool of Scotland.
Face-to-face and online lessons, private lessons and small groups' lessons of Beginners or Pre-Intermediate learners in Glasgow.

I am regularly invited to do workshops for the Scotland's National Centre for Languages, to spark interest in the language.

I love my job and I have taught the languages over 15 years to different age groups, from home, at language courses, at schools, universities, for US Government and Moldovan Government. I am equally happy to teach one-to-one and to large groups.

I also have a University Diploma in Psychology and MBA Diploma. The knowledge helps me understand people's motivation better and professionally teach business levels of the languages.

Tutoring Approach:

Absolutely all lessons are individually tailored. After each lesson, my students receive a short report on the vocabulary and grammar studied, also, some materials on their interests.
If you are thinking of a New Year Resolution as 'I will learn Russian (or English)' please don't :-) My advice is to set quantitative goals, e.g.2-4 hours/week or to reach the next level- e.g. to reach Pre-Intermediate within 3 months etc. I wish you all the best in 2017!

'Laugh Listen Learn' approach
When you enjoy the learning process you achieve the best results. Humour helps a lot and I do not believe that the word "studying" was made from two words "student dying"...
