Personal Description:
For the last eight years I have been have been teaching geography at KS3, GCSE and A level in north and west London. I am currently employed as a Head of Geography in an Outstanding secondary school in west London.

My personal strengths include excellent lesson planning and creation of resources and vast subject knowledge. This is supported by my 'outstanding' review in my most recent lesson observation. I also work As an examiner giving me a greater understanding of the exam board requirements in order to best support the students that I work with, I have used these skills to help students achieve outstanding grades for their controlled assessments and help students become more self-motivated and prepared for later life.

Teaching Experience:

Secondary Head of Geography (Sept 2009 - present)
I am currently employed as a Head of Geography in an outstanding comprehensive school in West London.

Examiner
I have marked GCSE geography papers for Edexcel for the past 4 years

Private Tutor (2009-2011)
I have tutored a number of students in both Geography and Maths and helped them to achieve results that exceeded their expectations.

EFL Teacher (2007-2008)
After completing my undergraduate I took a CELTA course to teach English as a foreign language. I lived in Vietnam for a year where I was employed as a full-time EFL teacher. I taught young learners between the ages of 6 and 18. These were further broken up into 3 different age groups and 7 different ability levels. I have also taught English to adults at a number of summer schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I think that it is really important to plan the tuition sessions to fit the needs of my individual student and I am committed the achievement of every student that I tutor. Working as a teacher in a 11-18 Secondary School means that I have access to a wealth of teaching resources and I am constantly learning new techniques to bring the best out of my students. I also work as an examiner for the Edexcel exam board with gives me a valuable insight into the exam expectation. I have been particularly successful when using past papers to help identify areas for improvement and I use a range of strategies to improve exam technique so that students are able to achieve to their full potential. My most recent turee achieved an A* in his geography GCSE which was a significant boost from his school's predicted target of a C grade. He has also chosen to continue his studies to A level after developing a love for the subject.

Personal Description:
I am a PhD student, undertaking my doctorate in Environmental Sciences, with a focus on soil nutrient cycling and nutrient transport to surface and ground waters. I completed my BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Exeter and gained first class honours in this.

Teaching Experience:

I carried out teacher training at a basic level with the University of Exeter in order to participate in the Students Associates Scheme. After this training I spent three weeks in a local secondary school where I actively participated in Geography and Religious Studies lessons, and was able to provide work plans for higher and lower achieving students. I also worked closely with students that had special educational needs.
I also have experience in teaching sports to groups of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

During my time at the secondary school I found that I produced good results working one-to-one with students, particularly with students that were struggling to understand concepts or were having difficulty with the teaching style being used in the classroom. I am patient, focussed and willing to work hard to enable a tutee to achieve their goals.

Personal Description:
I am a multi-instrumentalist originally from the Scottish Borders, playing flute, whistles and clarinet.
I specialise in folk and traditional music, mainly playing Scottish, Irish, Manx, Northumbrian and Breton. I studied at Newcastle University on the Folk and Traditional Music degree and gained a 2.1 overall grade with a 1st in performance in 2013. As well as working for Live Music Now, teaching privately and teaching at the Sage Gateshead I perform in a few different bands.

Projects and Employment

Performer and workshop leader for Live Music Now
As a music leader on the Live Music Now scheme, I have extensive experience of performing and delivering workshops to those who may not have regular access to live music. Audiences include children with special educational needs, adults with learning disabilities, children in hospitals and elderly people living in sheltered accommodation. Due to the diverse range of audiences and performance settings my partner and I have to be very flexible and always ready to tailor our performance accordingly.

The Sage Gateshead, Adult learning, Ensemble leader for two
bands within the Folkworks Tuesday program.
I write, arrange and teach music to the Beginner and Intermediate Bands at Folkworks Tuesdays. These sessions are taught using a combination of learning by ear and reading notation.

Private Music Teacher.
I give one to one lessons to adults and children of any ability and consequently my teaching style is very flexible.

Performer and recording artist in various bands.

Freya Rae & Louis Bingham
A quote from our website:
Freya Rae & Louis Bingham's music is varied, colourful and enthralling. They are a young duo who play a mixture of traditional tunes and modern compositions, drawing particularly on strong influences from Ireland and Brittany. On stage their unique and engaging performance dynamic communicates to audiences their love and sensitivity for the tradition, whilst presenting their own innovative compositions with virtuosity
and creative flair. Multi-instrumentalists, Freya's whistles, flute and clarinet blend seamlessly with Louis' guitars, cittern and bouzouki. They have recently released their debut album Curlicue, a recording which has garnered significant critical acclaim.
"Beautifully arranged and played with an entirely convincing sensibility... this is exquisite musicianship' The Living Tradition

Birlinn Jiarg
Birlinn Jiarg was brought together by multi-instrumentalist Beccy Hurst to perform the traditional Manx music she grew up with as well as her own compositions. Having performed with various Manx bands and dance teams over the years, Beccy moved to England to study on the Folk Degree at Newcastle University.
At the centre of Birlinn Jiarg's sound is the combination of Beccy's whistle and concertina playing and the clarinet and flute of Freya Rae (Freya Rae and Louis Bingham, Tom Kitching Band). The unusual combination of low whistle and clarinet was what originally inspired the band's formation and sets Birlinn Jiarg's sound apart from more traditional line-ups. Having performed in a duo with Beccy for a few years, Scottish guitarist and bouzouki player Alasdair Paul ( Pons Aelius , Kimber/Paul) was a natural choice for Birlinn Jiarg. Completing the quartet's line-up is bodhránist Callum Younger (Pons Aelius, Trio FCT). Callum and Alasdair have
worked together on a variety of projects and their inventive and powerful accompaniment provides a great platform for Beccy's and Freya's melodic interplay.

Tom Kitching Band
I play flute and clarinet in Tom's band. We have completed two tours around England and are planning more in 2016.
"Interloper is challenging, dexterous and above all, thought-provoking" EFDSS Spring 2015

Simo Lagnawi (The Gnawa Berber)

I am a guest musician on Simo's album (Track 9, Sma) and I became really interested in improvisation during this project as it is a very important part of the Gnawa tradition. I improvise throughout the track and found it really beneficial for my playing and composition skills.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced performer and teacher who has graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in Folk and Traditional Music

Teaching Experience:
Currently I teach a wide range of people from children as young as 6 to groups of adults at The Sage Gateshead, I am also a performer and workshop leader for Live Music Now

I can travel within Newcastle city for an extra £5

Tutoring Approach:

I am a flexible and friendly teacher who takes into consideration my pupils interests and needs and I create lessons that are suited to the individual.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly maths tutor local to Camborne, Falmouth and the surrounding area offering one-to-one tutoring to give extra support not often given in the classroom. I work full time as an design engineer, so I am available in the evenings and weekends. I teach up to GCSE level maths I have a 1st class masters degree in engineering. Whether you just need the occasional session to go over problem areas within the curriculum, or if you need regular study time, or even just help with homework, I am flexible depending on what the student needs. I can tutor at your home if you require, but I also offer tutoring from my own home, in a relaxed environment.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2 years experience working as a design engineer, applying my maths skills everyday. I have tutored on and off for 4 years teaching both maths and also offering guitar lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to try and understand what the student requires, and address these requirements specifically to give the best results. Should you need help on one aspect of the curriculum (people often shudder at the thought of algebra!), we can overcome the fear the y's and x's and master the topic. Should you need help keeping up in the classroom, or not understanding before the teacher moves on, we can take our time in the evening to make sure nothing has been missed. Should you need to get through an exam, we can make a study plan together to make sure you get the grade you want! I believe there is no 'one size fits all' to learning maths, and we can discuss all the details at your leisure.

Personal Description:
I'm James, 26, and an MPhil/PhD candidate in English and Humanities at Birkbeck, University of London, with a thesis on the ethics of black radical, avant-guard and experimental poetry from selective poets.

I have a BA & MA in Creative Writing from the University of Greenwich. I received the Stephen Lawrence Poetry Prize and their Communication and Creative Arts Prize for Achievement for obtaining one the highest marks awarded to a creative writing student; and my final MA piece was published, in print, by the Berkeley Poetry Review (University of California, Berkeley) and nominated, by the BPR, for the Pushcart Poetry Prize.

Although my academic background is practice-based, my specialist areas of interest are associated with the philosophical, critical, and theoretical dynamics of the creative writing process, which is to say that the creative isn't subordinate to the reflective, but are mutual, and taken together form the grounds for rich exploration.

Teaching Experience:

I'm currently working in a primary school as an English Literacy Teaching Assistant, with a concentration of developing the reading & writing skills for KS1 and, as of September, KS2 pupils.

In the past, I have also assisted undergraduates, and selective postgraduate, with proofreading, editing, and critically evaluating their poetry.

Tutoring Approach:

My natural approach to tutoring is relaxed and calm, but engaging and stimulating, whereby the dialogue that is established, to contribute to the dissemination knowledge and abstract ideas, can be brought into greater focus. I usually look to help tutees form an aim that can be managed though stages so as to ensure that learning is refined to the best degree of expended effort, is not overwhelming, and, above all, interesting and valuable.

Personal Description:
I am a high achieving MSc Civil and Structural Engineering graduate with excellent work and study pedigree. I graduated with Distinction from Coventry University, United Kingdom. I am currently carrying out a PhD research in Engineering in Coventry University. My experiences so far has enabled me to build a broad range of leadership and interpersonal skills. Therefore, I am able to manage challenging behavior and communicate effectively with people from diverse background.

Teaching Experience:

I have a strong passion for teaching mathematics, logical and quantitative reasoning concepts. My ability to grasps the basic ideas in maths have allowed me to excel in technical concepts in Engineering. I have an experience of teaching undergraduates through the support assistant role in the university. I have had a one-on-one experience teaching and supporting an undergraduate student with great success in his studies and research work. I am really desirous of further developing my skills as a tutor in mathematics. This will enable me to further build a strong career as a teacher and lecturer. I served as a maths and computer education teacher in a secondary school during my compulsory national youth service just after my graduation from the university. I have had the experience of learning and applying real life mathematics concepts of trigonometry and algebra as an engineer working in the construction industry. A typical example of this was in the development of survey data for the design of roads and in the preparation of bill of quantities.

Tutoring Approach:

As a maths tutor, I have the aim of creating in students the ability to understand the basic ideas in mathematics. I also do aspire to instill in students the confidence that aids excellence in problem - solving especially in examinations as well as in answering questions to unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that the capacity to grasps and retain the needed skills is to relate mathematics with real life experiences. This then easily creates the atmosphere for the development of real passion for learning and appreciating the subject. Hence, I do not strive to make the student quote the ideas and the notions involved in the subject, instead I encourage the student draw analogies. Even though my approach does vary depending on the needs and learning style of the student involved, I do aim to foster independence in the student by encouraging deep critical thinking. After teaching a particular topic in mathematics, my method of assessment is to test the student's understanding through additional problems and humorous games that relate to the topic. Also, in order to assess the level of my teaching strategy, I do request feedback from the student on a regular basis.

Personal Description:
I have just moved from London to Leamington Spa, where I taught English Functional Skills for the London Borough of Waltham Forest for 10 years.

First and foremost, I attempt to create a trusting relationship through empathy and listening skills which enables me to identify the student's needs and to develop strategies to support them. I teach skills to assist the development of independent learning: research, reading and proof reading strategies and writing skills including grammar, spelling and structure.

I believe in the importance of being able to communicate in writing effectively as it is empowering in many ways. It enables us to apply for jobs and perform successfully in jobs as most involve writing in various forms. I have worked in arts administration as a Development Co-ordinator at The Whitechapel Art Gallery where I needed to write letters and brochures persuasively to attract donations and sponsorship of exhibitions. Many job roles involve creating marketing materials as does running your own business. Being able to articulate and write a complaint letter is also empowering. So hi-lighting how necessary writing skills are can help to motivate students.

Also I am passionate about reading fiction, English and foreign literature, as well as poetry and belong to two book clubs. Literature gives us an imaginative insight into other lives, emotions and stories which helps to enrich our own lives. I have enjoyed going to the RSC in Stratford and the live screenings of plays at The Spa Centre. So for me the transformational power of the arts is what gives life meaning.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 10 years English/Literacy in community centres for Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service and provided 1:1 Dyslexia Support. Most recently I completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Adult Literacy at The Institute of Education, University College London. I have also taught adults with learning difficulties and have supported children with special needs at primary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy working on a 1:1 basis with students rather than a classroom situation as I can get to know them more and build up a personal relationship enabling me to understand their needs and design strategies to support them and build up their confidence. I believe that you need to devise with the student their main goals and then break them down into smaller achievable steps and stages.
