| Personal Description: I write and am involved in the production of study guides for public exam students in the UK and abroad. My particular interests lie in all things literary - both reading and writing - drama and media. As a former Head of Sixth Form, I am familiar with the requirements of further and higher education, and am practised in the preparation of students for selection. I have experience as an examiner. |
Teaching Experience: I have wide experience in independent and state (selective and comprehensive) schools, and of tutoring school, undergraduate and adult students. I regularly teach the syllabuses of all the exam boards in England. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is friendly and sympathetic, but focused. It is vital always to keep the demands of the student's course in mind. Besides working on specific assignments and building understanding through discussion, most students like the opportunity to ask questions and revisit points, so I am flexible about the pace and direction of study, matching it to the individual. All work is more enjoyable, and progress easier, when problem areas are smooth! |

| Personal Description: Hello everybody, I am 26 years old and currently I am studying at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I studied in my home country (Poland) too. It`s been two years since I work in the UK. I have a lot of experience in teaching. I am friendly, reliable and trustworthy person. When I was 16 years old I set up my own choir and then I decided to become a choir conductor. I love music and I would do everything to show you its truly magical world. I am enthusiastic about teaching since I know that each time I learn something new too:) |
Teaching Experience: I have been giving privet lessons since I was 16. i was a violin, piano, guitar and singing teacher, as well as polish language tutor. After graduating I have moved to the UK where I was working in two private schools. In the first one I thought violin, singing, piano, theory of the music, and I lead a choir. In the second I was a music teacher. |
Tutoring Approach: I like working with children, teenagers and adults. All my experience has proved me that my pupils like the slightly informal way I teach and we always got on well very well. I am interested in alternative ways of education (like Montessori, Steiner etc.) and I try to use its guidelines in my personal teaching. Practice should always come first and understanding of theory will come afterwords. The best way to learn is to think creatively and to create your own way of learning, tailored to your own specific requirements. It should be interesting and fun, although there are things that have to be practiced and might be boring, but I believe there is always a way to make it more approachable. If the teacher show the passion, the student will share it and this fact will make things easier to learn:) |

| Personal Description: I am a qualified teacher with a primary (7-11) PGCE specialising in modern foreign languages. I also have a BA in French and Italian and spent a year in France and Italy. I have an A level in Welsh and a TEFL qualification. During my time in Europe I found that children had earlier exposure to foreign languages which was the reason for their superior language skills. I want to help give children in this country the same opportunity. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently working as a supply teacher in the South Wales area teaching National Curriculum subjects as well as French. I teach French in two schools for a morning a week and I love it. I also set up and ran after school French clubs in previous schools with great success. |
Tutoring Approach: I teach all National Curriculum subjects however my main passion is teaching languages. I feel my teaching aim is to encourage children to develop a positive attitude towards modern foreign languages in readiness for when it is introduced into the National Curriculum. I believe that having a knowledge of a foreign language can help a child in so many ways, it opens doors to other cultures and also develops a firmer understanding of their mother tongue. I strongly believe that language learning should be fun, my teaching methods concentrate more on communication and I encourage this through games, songs and role-play. I believe that I am a fun and approachable teacher and I like children to feel that they can come to me with problems and for them to feel that no question is a stupid question. If you want your child to have a head start in either French, Welsh, Italian or EFL I can help. |

| Personal Description: I am a French citizen and was raised in France. I have a French Baccalaureate (Baccalaurat A1 French and Mathematics). I achieved highly in the International option of the Baccalaurat, which involved an exam in English Literature and History/Geography set by the Cambridge Board of Examinations. I studied German to A- level which I used to teach German at a basic level during my PGCE. Following my Baccalaurat in France I moved to England to study politics at Newcastle University, in what is my second language. In 2004, after working as a teaching language assistant, I completed a PGCE in MFL which expanded and strengthened my working knowledge of French as a foreign language. The PGCE course provided me with a good grounding in pedagogical methods and working knowledge of language learning, qualifying me to work in England as an MFL teacher. |
Teaching Experience: Following my PGCE I taught in a very challenging secondary school in Hartlepool as a French supply teacher for 9 months. During this time I passed an Ofsted inspection and, as a member of staff contributed to the school being taken out of special measures. My practical experience as a French Teacher further consolidated my language teaching skills. I completed two terms of my NQT year and went on to do supply teaching throughout the North East. I have also taught adults at the Centre for Lifelong Learning at Sunderland University in Newcastle where I tailored my teaching materials and methods for adult learning and emphasised the cultural aspect of teaching languages. This was well received by my students and was a very rewarding professional experience. This has helped further my understanding of the workings of language acquisition, and the motivations for learning languages. I believe this varied practical experience is an asset which is not easily given an academic equivalence! |
Tutoring Approach: I am currently giving French lessons to adults on a freelance basis, and working as a translator and interpreter. I remain constantly in touch with my cultural roots in France, as my family still live there and I return for regular visits. As a teacher, this gives me a unique perspective on French life, access to a range of materials and an authenticity which I have found pupils to be receptive to. As a French native speaker, I provide a bridge between language learning and real life experience which I think is an important part of the provision for languages. I believe that making foreign languages a living subject, spoken and lived by millions of people, provides an important motivational factor for students. I have strong experience of teaching in a range of educational settings and have an extremely rounded skill set. I have taught a range of subjects and have developed a diverse portfolio of resources for use in the classroom. I am accomplished at producing creative learning programmes, activities, work sheets and games. I have strong communication skills, which have been the bedrock of my career to date. In my work as a teacher I have constantly demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills. I have the ability to motivate through enthusiasm, and a good understanding of client's needs is central to my approach! I am dynamic and enthusiastic in my teaching, and feel most at home bringing new subjects to others. Feedback from my adult education classes has always been positive about my teaching style, and my supervisors have always been pleased with my work and my team spirit. |

| Personal Description: I am currently working as a junior doctor having qualified in Medicine with Distinction from King's College and also received a BSc in Psychology with First Class Honours from the same institution. I have a distinguished educational history, including winning prestigious prizes such as the British Pharmacological Society's Medical Student Prize. These attainments have come not from innate intelligence (though I do have a fair bit of that), but from a solid understanding of what is required to perform well in exams as well as positive mental training. I enjoy film, photography, theatre, reading, writing, and travelling. |
Teaching Experience: I have a number of years' experience providing private tuition with all students meeting or surpassing their expectations. I am familiar with the OCR, AQA-A, AQA-B and WJEC specifications for Psychology A-level, and OCR and AQA Sociology specification. In addition, I hold Visiting Appointments as a Research Fellow at King's College London (Institute of Psychiatry) and Lecturer at Deakin University, Australia teaching psychological medicine and have been involved in designing and teaching undergraduate courses in the Sociology of Health and Illness. I have published and presented work at national and international conferences on my innovations in teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: In my experience the main problems that students have is not their level of knowledge, but their exam technique, writing skills, critical thinking/analytic skills, and conceptual understanding. Students also have difficulty discerning what information they and do and do not need to know. So my focus is on challenging my students to develop their skills and exam technique, and to familiarise them with their specifications and assessment objectives. I also offer positive mental training (used by top athletes) to help improve performance. The mental preparing for exams is not that dissimilar to preparing for an olympic sport! Motivation and willingness to engage in private tuition are keys to success I cannot instill. For this reason I require the student, and not (just) the parent/guardian to contact me. A good fit between the tutor and tutee is also important. Even the best tutor in the world will not get very far with a student if they don't 'click'. That is why I assess whether the relationship is workable before committing to it. Different students have different learning styles and interests. I identify these and tailor my teaching style to the individual student. I have experience with working with students with learning difficulties, physical and mental illnesses, or current social/family adversity. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a student at Bath university studying Sports and Coach education. I hope to go into teaching after university although i am currently unsure whether i want to do this at a primary or secondary school level. I am hoping a job in tutoring will not only give me an insight into what age group i would work permanently with but also give me valuable learning experience that will help me in the future. I attained good grade levels all throughout my time at school and am currently on track for a high 2:1 for my degree. I am a confident, lively, energetic and likable character. Due to my many hobbies and jobs, I have a diverse social network which has benefited me by enabling me to get along with anybody irrespective of background, age gender or culture. |
Teaching Experience: I have had many years experience working as a swimming teacher and have excellent references from all the swim schools i worked with. Through working as a swimming teacher i have been able to develop my delivery and listening skills as it is crucial that you have all the pupils attention at all times to minimise potential risks. I have had one months experience working as a teaching assistant in a year 1 and year 6 class at a primary school which i found very rewarding. During this time i did one-to-one reading sessions with year one pupils and worked with the top maths table of both year 1 and 6 which involved over seeing their work and helping any pupils who were finding a task challenging. In addition, I have also set up an after school multi-sports club for a local primary school which I and a friend run on a Friday afternoon. This involves planning lessons suitable for the 15 pupils aged between 8-11 that attend this club, using suitable styles to maintain control and interest and above all make it fun so that they want to come again. Finally I have served as a tutor to my younger sisters (currently aged 7 and 10) and to neighbours children (all between the ages of 5- 12). This has mostly involved assisting them with their Math, English and science homework. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe the key to teaching is to try and make the task as enjoyable as possible, so I primarily adopt a friendly but firm approach. Any child will work harder at something that they find interesting. I like to create a stress free environment where the student feels able to ask any questions and voice their uncertainties. I assess the pupils strengths and weaknesses and am a strong supporter in using teaching aids such as analogies, mind mapping, etc to turn these weaknesses into strengths. I endeavour to get the best out of any student and help them achieve their full potential and above all help them to develop the confidence to help themselves. My years in sports teaching has meant I've adopted a teaching style requires input from both student and teacher. I will not simply 'spoon feed' a student the answers as i believe a guided approach is much more beneficial. It provides the pupil with confidence and skills that can be applied to many other aspects and expeirences in life. |
