| Personal Description: I am a 19 year old University Student, studying Human Genetics. I come from Nottingham but I am currently living in Leeds to attend university. I am a keen musician, having learned to play piano, guitar, bass and drums. I have also become the president of the Union Music Library at the University of Leeds, which involves the general running of the society. I am also involved in the badminton society at the university of Leeds. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught bass guitar to a pupil in my secondary school. He passed his Grade 1 exam and has been so enthused, that he has taken a BTEC course in music performance for his first year of 6th form. I was also a peer tutor to a boy in my secondary school, whom I was five years older than. I helped him with all kinds of problems that arose during a school day, whether it be academic or social. It was my responsibility to arrange meetings with him, and to be considerate in helping him with his worries. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very patient and understand the difficulty in learning concepts that appear simple to others, but attempting different ways to attack the problem. I have often thought this as I usually find a different way to look at things to other people, to make it easier for me to understand. |

| Personal Description: I have lived in Watford since 1993, a town just to the north west of London with a recently growing Polish community. I am preparing / have prepared our three children & others for GCSE Polish by home tutoring. In my primary school work in the Watford area I have developed a liking for Mathematics, where I successfully tutored our children for the Watford secondary school entrance exams. I have a mixed circle of friends, these being English, Polish (born in Poland & in the UK) & others. With my Polish background, I naturally have an interest in Polish matters which I am happy to share with others. I worked in England initially in the late 1980s, and returned to live permanently in 1991. Over the years I have enjoyed learning the English language, though it was difficult at first. This has allowed me to develop an interest in English culture & heritage, which includes walking in the country and enjoying watching sports such as rugby! |
Teaching Experience: After qualifying with a degree in Education Studies in Poland, I worked in Gniezno as an educator ("wychowawca") (1985-1991). After moving to the UK, I returned to work in education when our children became older: 2000-2003: Nursery teaching assistant, Elstree, Herts. 2001-2004: Class Teacher at Polish Community School - Ealing, London. Teaching children of Polish origin aged 8-13 years on Saturday mornings. 2005-2006: Supply teaching to local primary schools in Watford area. September 2006 - July 2007 (one year contract): Full-time Learning Support Assistant (Year 7) at St Helen's School, Northwood, Middx. September - December 2007 (one-term contract): Full-time extended Behaviour Support role at Primary Support Base in Berrygrove School, Watford, included interpreting for families of Polish origin. April 2008 - current: Part-time Teaching Assistant in Special Needs at St John's CE Primary School, Stanmore. |
Tutoring Approach: My first task is to identify the individual needs of the pupil. I then plan the lessons where I set clear and realistic goals. This is the approach I take for primary school Mathematics and also for GCSE Polish tuition. For both I refer to the current UK curriculum with relevant Key Stage Mathematics and recent Polish GCSE papers. For Polish GCSE tuition, I carefully select appropriate Polish-origin teaching materials because teaching Polish in the UK has its specifics. Here I can understand that Polish teenagers born in the UK may not always be motivated to learn Polish, so I strive to make the activities enjoyable and varied as well as demanding! I set homework in Mathematics & Polish which I then receive back by email, and I check this in my time before the next lesson. For adult tuition in Polish, I would first discuss and agree an appropriate programme of work with my client that matches their interests. |

| Personal Description: I have strong determination in everything I do. I have understanding of how much people can struggle with education and want to let them see that it can be less stressful than they currently find it. I am extremely confident and professional in my manner and as a carer a mentally handicapped adult do not shy away from any social situation. |
Teaching Experience: Despite the lack of teaching experience I have spent my employment working with people from event hosting to youth work to sales. With my evidence of high achievement in my education I have the knowledge to pass onto other people. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to create enthusiasm about the work, due to my age I feel it is important to relate to the client and give them the realisation that I have been there not too long ago. I feel it is important to try and relieve the stress involved in studying and to emphasise that although the work is hard, it has to be done and will soon be over, and that this is the time to show what they have got. By tutoring in bite-size pieces I aim to make the process less daunting. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a degree student in my first year studying at the University of Warwick. I am working towards a Bachelors of science degree in Biological science and then i intend on doing a PGCE (postgraduate certificate in education) to become a teacher. For my A levels I excelled at English literature and Language and Biology and also took Information communication technology. I received a B grade in all three subjects. From early on I've always wanted to go into teaching. It is something I'm very passionate about, and this passion hasn't wavered all throughout my time in education. I am a very honest and hard-working individual. I am very patient and work well with others. I have good time keeping and once i am committed to a task i will do everything i can to see that it gets done. In term time i am away at university, but during vacations i reside back in London. So tutees interested in being tutored any time between June and September are preferred |
Teaching Experience: My future aim is to go into teaching, so my current teaching experience is minimal. I have however tutored fellow peers before, putting a lot of time and effort into improving their understanding on a topic. I have also volunteered on numerous occasions at schools, helping teachers out in classes and supporting the students |
Tutoring Approach: Everyone has their own way of learning something. No two people are the same. Some people prefer to write things down, while others just need something explained to them in simpler way which is more understandable. The first step would be to establish how the tutee prefers to learn the subject and what methods are most suitable for them. This can be difficult in a class room with 20+ students all being taught in the same way. The next step is to look at what the tutee already knows and what they need to learn |

| Personal Description: After completing my A levels at The King's School, Peterborough (at which I received an award for the best History results in England), I studied for my degree (BA Hons.) in English at St. John's College, Cambridge. Since this time I have worked and lived in England and Ireland as an Archival researcher, freelance Editor, and Tutor. |
Teaching Experience: have several years experience of tutoring a wide range of pupils, from overseas students, to undergraduates. Most recently, I have tutored a student undertaking an access course into Higher Education. |
Tutoring Approach: Without enthusiasm, nothing is possible: therefore I aim to involve and interest students in the texts and ideas they are working on, rather than concentrating on a merely academic approach. Setting that enthusiasm within a correct formal essay structure is obviously the key to success, and my students and I seek to do this via both informal discussion and formal exercises. The goal, as with all education, should be to enable the pupil to think for themselves about the subject, by giving them the skills, methods and confidence to do so. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a first year student at Brighton University, studying Law with Business. Before that I was at Strodes College in Egham where I studied Law and Business to A Level and IT, Economics and English to AS Level. Through my Law A Level and Degree I have learned to become able to remember a large number of facts which I can recall at any time. I'd like to think I'm an outgoing person, with a focus and drive to do well in life. |
Teaching Experience: Throughout my secondary school career I was a student mentor. This involved helping students with any work with which they needed assistance. It also involved providing support to students throughout their transition into secondary school life. Furthermore, in my part time job I was heavily involved in the training of new starters, learning how to work at different paces and adapt my teaching style to different types of learners. |
Tutoring Approach: I work my hardest to make the subject being studied as interesting as possible. Through my Law A Level I have learned a lot of different study tips. These come in particularly useful when trying to remember large amounts of facts. I am able to adapt my teaching style to different ages, depending on what it is they are stuck with and how they learn. |
