Personal Description:
I have a BSc (First Class Honours) in Psychology from Brunel University (2007), and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge (2011). I am currently a Psychology lecturer at the University of Bath. My research is mainly in social, health and cognitive psychology, but I also teach research methods (both quantitative and qualitative methodologies), statistics and SPSS, as well as effective academic writing, including dissertations and research projects. In addition, I have sufficient competence in personality (i.e., individual differences) and clinical psychology to be able to teach these at undergraduate level.

More specifically, my research interests are:

- The attitude-behaviour relationship
- Behavioural interventions
- Motivation, cognition, and emotion
- Dual-process models of cognition
- Cognitive dissonance, self-affirmation, and information processing
- Emotional intelligence
- Mindfulness meditation and its cognitive and emotional benefits
- Meta-cognition and self-knowledge
- Persuasion and social influence
- Intelligence and problem-solving
- Body language and communication
- Personal development

Teaching Experience:

I taught psychology to undergraduates at the University of Cambridge from 2008-2011. In addition, I have experience of supervising undergraduates from other universities, including Anglia Ruskin and King's College London. I also supervise BSc and MSc students in their undergraduate research projects, and act as a dissertation supervisor in my department.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to use an interactive approach that encourages active involvement of the tutee. My main goal during tuition sessions is to stimulate an interest in the subject and facilitate independent and critical thinking. This, I believe, allows the tutee to become an independent thinker and to enjoy the learning process, which is rewarding for both parties.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate from Oxford University, with a great passion for the subjects I studied: Classics, Modern Languages and Ancient History.

Teaching Experience:

I mainly teach students who are finding their subject hard to get to grips with, or those wanting to push themselves further before an exam or interview. In both cases it is important for me to help my students enjoy the subject, as this is how they will get the most out of it. I use a mixture of the type of teaching they will get in school, along with some informal and extra-curricular elements to enhance their experience of the subject.

I teach students from young ages up to undergraduate level and beyond. My preferred method is using online tutoring via Skype, allowing students to feel comfortable in their own homes without the need to travel.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing with private tuition is to have it tailored to your needs, as this is probably what you are missing in school if you find a subject hard. I am very happy to discuss with you what you want to get out of your tuition, and following on from that either to focus on particular things or give a wide overview. Most importantly through helping you to understand more about the subject I hope to help you learn to love it!

Personal Description:
Experienced tutor for A-level and Degree Chemistry. Throughout my academic and research career I have developed a passion for chemistry and teaching and have been extensively involved in the tutoring and mentoring of students across a range of levels over many years. I have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Bristol in addition to a 1st Class Masters Degree in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh. I am currently employed as a Senior Research Scientist in the North East with responsibilities including the training and mentoring of chemistry undergraduate students from a range of Universities.

Teaching Experience:

My passion for teaching started during my PhD where I taught practical and theoretical chemistry to numerous undergraduates, with particular focus on 1st year students struggling with key concepts to guide them through exams. Since then, I have continued to teach and mentor chemistry across a range of levels with particular focus on helping A-Level chemistry students struggling to get the grips with key concepts.

Tutoring Approach:

I adopt a systematic and logical approach to teaching using 'real-life' examples and models where ever possible to aid the students understanding and visualisation of the problems. This approach not only assists their immediate understanding of the subject, but come exam time, also helps them to identify the correct answer to the problems in front of them. I am available most evenings for tuition, so please feel free to contact me for more information or a quick chat.

Personal Description:
My name is Jessica and I am a 27 year old tutor from Brixton, South London. I have grown up with a great education from both schooling and tutors, and aim to keep up this high standard in my teaching. My secondary school, Heathfield Private Girls in Pinner, was a great starter for me and showed me a wide variety of effective teaching methods in all areas of education. When specialising at Woodhouse College in English, Drama, Biology and French I had some of the most inspiring and creative teachers who pushed me to a level I did not know I could achieve. As a result I had a firm foundation for my English and Drama Bachelor of the Arts at the University of Birmingham which made the course all the more enjoyable. I will be studying my Masters in October at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Teaching Experience:

My most recent pupil was retaking his A-Level drama exam during his gap year. By working together for 6 week, we managed to bring his grade up from a U to a B, allowing him the chance of a university placement. Other pupils have ranged in age and ability from first years of GCSE to children for homework help. My mother is and has always been a French teacher, so from a young age I was helping to look after and share responsibility for her classes. This included an after-school French club for children from the age of 4 to 11 years called Jeux D'Enfants and also helping organise and plan some private lessons. At College and University I tutored the younger siblings of my close friends for their 11+ and GCSE and also held weekly Shakespeare study groups for my course. I have recently decided to become a teaching assistant for a secondary school in North London and am excited to tutor once more.

TESTIMONIALS
I was more than fortunate to come across Jessica's profile back in April 2012.

From the moment I sent her my initial email, there was both an element of professionalism and caring. The amount of effort and detail she put into my 12 lesson's between April and late May was second to none.
In terms of what Jess brought to my lesson's (We looked at two play's for my written exam. Lysistrata and A Comedy of Errors) she had a lot of material on the latter having studied it at school. From character profiles to stage description's she had an extensive amount of notes, chart and diagrams as well as an understanding of the play and exam. As for lysistratta, this was a play she had never read, by my first lessons she had not only read it but had started to plan out potential lesson planners, as the weeks went by the material and effort she put into each lesson continue. During lesson's I found that she had a very cool and relaxed attitude. She's still young and has an understanding of not only the subject but also how a-levels can effect students and how to best deal with this pressure.

In the end however it's all about the result I suppose. In my last exam (Unit 4 theatre studies) I got under 20% the year before. My finale grade fell from B to D. After my lesson's with Jessica I got 78% and my grade jump back up to B. Added to my A and B in my two other subject I was accepted to the university of Southampton, something I couldn't have imagine a year prior.

Jessica had a huge part to play in this and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jessica has been tutoring my 14 year old son in English for the last academic term. She is an enthusiastic teacher who has really helped engage him in the subject. Her knowledge of drama is a real bonus.

My son's grades have improved noticeably this term and he is much more confident in his lessons at school. I would thoroughly recommend her.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that no one pupil is the same, so it is impossible to define a teaching method as it must be adapted to the needs of the student. From experience of being tutored myself, I know how frustrating it can be to be taught in a way that doesn't suit your thinking, so with each pupil I ask them how they learn and absorb information best. As a result I spend the first lesson going over what the pupil does not understand, and why, thus gaining an comprehension of how to explain it better. I also like to push the student to think beyond their boundaries, or the boundaries necessary to simply get the grade, as this is how exceptional thinking and a sense of achievement come about.

Personal Description:
I am a 46 year old father of four children, the oldest having just left University. As a father of four I have a lot of experience in knowing how to motivate children and how to develop the necessary skills they need to either pass exams or for enhancing life skills. I live on the edge of the South Downs in a small cottage with my family, a dog, a cat and numerous chickens.

Teaching Experience:

I came into teaching as a mature student after spending 15 years in the catering and wholesale business. My first training came with the Sussex Wildlife trust where I helped run the outdoor field sessions for pupils from year 1 to A level studies. I then trained on the GTP course at schools in Brighton and then Burgess Hill before working at Ringmer Community College as Head of Geography. For the last 5 years I have been Head of Humanities at a private school in Kent, where I have been teaching GCSE Philosophy, Geography & History and A Level Philosophy and Geography.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an open approach to tutoring and emphasise self learning and confidence building with the student being the focus and seeing how they want to develop their own skills. I will discuss, motivate and lead a student to query the topics we look at and then work with them to develop their exam skills.

Personal Description:
I want everyone to enjoy the ability to communicate with each other in English to make friends, do business together and to feel confident wherever English is spoken.
I have been made welcome by so many people from many nationalities all round the world and love the excitement of communicating with people from all walks of life.
I enjoy teaching face to face and online and to tailoring conversation and lessons to the ability and objectives of the student or students.
I am married with a family and am comfortable teaching all ages although I prefer teaching adults and young adults (16 upwards). I teach general English and specialize in teaching business English.
I also proofread and edit dissertations and theses.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in Europe and Asia. For six years I lived in France teaching one to one and small groups. I returned to the United Kingdom in 2012 and live and teach in the Worthing and Brighton area.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning a language should be both fun and serious. If my students are preparing for examinations then a concentration on course work with homework will be important.
If students prefer to develop their social conversational ability then there may be less emphasis on grammar and more on the use of English in everyday social or business situations. Each potential student is asked to complete a simple questionaire to give me a picture of their ability level and what they want to achieve.
I teach one to one or small groups (normally no more than 8 students). Price reductions for two students or more
Most online teaching is on a one to one basis.

Personal Description:
An aspiring civil engineering student, possessing mathematical knowledge that I can use to help younger students improve their mathematical skills.
During A-Levels I constantly attended 'King's Factor' through King's College London. Where we logically analyse and solve STEP and MAT questions. This programme gave me the chance to improve my problem solving and critical thinking skills.
I am self-motivated, committed and determined to achieving my goals, come what may. By being a current Vice President for two different organisations, I have demonstrated good negotiating and organising skills, a firm sense of responsibility and capacity to work harder under pressure.

During my free time I skate, play basketball & badminton. I used to play basketball for a team and won fair amount of games. I am also a passionate musician who play drums, guitar, piano, clarinet and saxophone decently. I like to learn new things that's why I self-taught myself in playing this instruments. In addition to this, currently I have my own band, who played on several gigs and even won as first runner up for battle of the bands. Lastly, I collect different kinds of rubik's cube and puzzle twist, all which I can solve.

Teaching Experience:

Currently working part-time Tutor at Kumon Sheperds Bush
Understood the meaning of support and patience

Guitar Tutoring
Learned how to break patterns into simple components for better understanding

Retail Store
Developed, and enhanced skills in attention to detail

Tutoring Approach:

Whilst working as a tutor, I discovered that teaching is not just about the kid being able to memorise the content, equations and even techniques, but also being able to understand them fully and able to apply them at any problem they may come across with.

Hence, for me as a tutor, I make sure that the student understands the knowledge behind the equations they use to solve a certain problem. So in the future they will also know the logic behind a logic.

Because for me, Mathematics is not just about being able to know the answer, its also about the steps, techniques and knowledge used in attaining the correct answer.

Personal Description:
I am a young, dynamic Cambridge CELTA qualified teacher with a real passion for the English language. My greatest pleasure is to meet students from all over the world!

I love the challenge that each new student brings, knowing that each person has individual learning requirements and needs a unique approach to facilitating their language acquisition.

My hobbies include languages (I studied French at university), travel, literature, and education.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English for over 4 years. I started by teaching my friends whilst living in France, helping them with their university assignments and preparation for TOEFL exams and presentations. In 2014 I became professionally qualified when I achieved Cambridge CELTA certification.

Since then I have taught Brazilian students from impoverished areas of Rio de Janeiro online, working for the Sequoia Foundation. I currently work for a French company, teaching English online to French-speakers (from France, as well as from many African and Caribbean countries). Working for a Hong Kong based company, I also teach a student from Spain. Further to this I also work for a Japanese company, offering 1-1 Skype lessons.

In summer of 2015 I taught monolingual classes of Italian speakers at Birmingham City University (working for a company called International Quest). My most recent teaching experience also involves an Italian student: I provide 1-1 business English lessons (face-to-face) at Deutsche Bank in Birmingham.

My students have been very varied. The youngest are currently around age 6 and the oldest have been retired casual learners (aged 60+). I have taught levels ranging from entry level (A1 and below) to advanced (C1-C2). My students are from a variety of backgrounds: schoolchildren; high school students; university students ; business professionals; casual learners.

Tutoring Approach:

I love to meet new students from all over the world and enjoy working with all levels. Each student has different needs, so I make sure our lessons reflect this. For example, one student may wish to focus on grammar and reading, whereas another might need to work on speaking and phonology.

I use materials such as the Cambridge Empower series for adolescent and adult learners, as I believe it provides a fantastic springboard for learning. For students wishing to focus on business English, I also make use of the Collins Business English range.

I also have many other resources at my disposal that can be adapted to suit each individual student's needs. For example, many students also find it beneficial to analyse newspaper articles, and I am also happy to work with students on any documents they bring to class.

Personal Description:
I am a professional, conservatoire trained, theatre director, drama and LAMDA teacher based in London. My greatest strengths are my creativity on stage, ability to manage and communicate with people and to generally be an effective leader of different age groups, from Age 5 to Age 65.

My theatre voyage stydying MFA Theatre Directing at East 15 Acting School provided Jacques Lecoq puppet, clown and physical training and core modules examining Shakespeare, musical theatre, opera, comedy, contemporary British writing and actor training which has informed my practice as a teacher and director.

A huge part of my study was on theatre of the East, where I visited Bali, Indonesia for one term to study at Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI Denpasar). Here I had intensive training on forms such as Topeng Masked Dance, Legong Dance, Wayang Kulit and an introduction to Balinese Hinduism and performance cultures along with the opportunity to collaborate with actors, directors and filmmakers, and world-famous industry professionals.

I believe my administrative experience, my sales and marketing capabilities, together with my teaching and theatre qualifications with a healthy dose of imagination and a playful nature have all added to my effectiveness as an director, accomplished administrator, communicator and good all rounder.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked consistently in London theatres and in schools over the last 7 years and most recently have been working as the Artistic Director of Fusion Theatre Company, a company I founded, developing shows, workshops, education packs and training programs for pupils and teachers linking with National Curriculum Topics in order to utilise drama as a tool for learning. Most recently I have set up a LAMDA training section of the company, offering group sessions, duologue and monologue sessions for primary and secondary school.

Although I do the majority of my work within Theatre in Education and drama training, I also am currently the Associate Director of Maverick Theatre, whos mandate is to create reimaginations of classic literature in unexpected places.

Prior to setting up my own company, I was an assistant director, teaching assistant and technical operator at Trent College, for a number of shows, abridging and cutting scripts, marketing the school's productions, organising the shared diary and assisting with general curriculum work, organising year 9 classes and office administration. During that time I also worked as a LAMDA teacher with 14 students of my own, all of whom successfully achieved Grades 2 and 3 at the end of the summer term. During my second year I was given the opportunity to direct my own productions, as well as a substantial pay increase. I directed a sixth form production of "Two" by Jim Cartwright, followed by The Sixth Form Review [a comedy sketch show], a production of "Shakers" by John Godber, and a production of "Equus" by Peter Shaffer, and finally an outdoor theatre production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with a year 7 group. Two years of hands-on experience in education taught me the fundamental rules of theatre, production, discipline and how to motivate others to give their best performance.

Theatre plays a vital role in education to nurture and create opportunities for young people, using the arts as a vehicle to understand the world they live in and the people they are as well as develop crucial life skills. I believe that the most effective way to learn is through theatre and performance and because of this I have an incredible love for youth theatre and working with children and find it extremely rewarding.

Since my study, I have been doing workshops and acting courses with students from University upwards. Whether it be a specific genre of theatre or audition pieces.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is completely guided by the person I am working with. My natural instincts as a teacher are to get the student to relate to the material as well as they can by giving them something to compare it with in their own life. As a student of LAMDA since age five and from my extensive experience as a tutor throughout my career I discovered that by adopting a personal approach to teaching and mentoring, identifying the individual strengths of each student, and harnessing and working with those strengths, I was able to yield some incredible results not just within primary and secondary school but utilising this practice for all ages.

Personal Description:
I have just finished my A-levels at The Perse School in Cambridge where I studied, Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Spanish. I am taking a gap year and then going on to study medicine at university next year.

Teaching Experience:

I currently tutor quite a few students from 4 years old to A-levels. I have experience teaching maths and English and sciences and also English as a forgein language using my TEFL qualification. I still have a few slots available for this term.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring should be engaging and fun with many different learning styles incorporated. One of my main focuses is to instil confidence and raise the aspirations of the tutee in whatever subject they may require.
