Personal Description:
An experienced and friendly female tutor with many years experience of teaching mathematics at all levels and one to one tutoring with excellent results. As an exam marker I have a good idea of what is expected in final exams and have a keen ability of giving confidence and encouraging my students to achieve to the best of their ability. Have current CRB certificate.
I am an experienced and friendly maths tutor with many years experience of teaching mathematics at all levels (Nationals, Highers, GCSE, HEFC, HN and A-Level) and private tutoring with excellent results. As an examination marker I have a good idea of what is expected in the final exams. In particular I use strategies to increase my students' confidence and learning skills so they become independent learners using their problem solving skills under exam condition. I endeavour to encourage my students to try and achieve to the best of their ability. I have a valid and current CRB certificate obtained by my employer

Teaching Experience:

Over 20 years of teaching, lecturing, one to one tutoring and many happy and successful students. Even those who did not really like maths in class, often stop me in the street comment on how much they have benefited from their mathematical learning, use it in their part time job or it has lead to a good career, or they are just happy to be able to do a monthly budget.
One of the signs of a good tuition is the returning customer and i have had the joy of teaching siblings from the same family for several years.

Tutoring Approach:

'There are two good things in life' according to S Poisson: 'learning maths and teaching maths'. Of course a little extreme, but i would say that enabling someone else to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills, as well as using and applying this ability to solve equations and carry out complex calculations, for me are some of the most exciting aspects of maths tutoring. The approach i incorporate into all my teaching is to enthuse, motivate and empower my students, so they develop a deep understanding of mathematical processes and thereby learn the skills needed for each particular topic. I also incorporate puzzles and interactive resources into my lessons.

Personal Description:
My name is Lauren, I am 18 years old, and I am currently a student at Coventry University studying Spanish BA Single Honours, with TEFL (Teaching English as a foreign language). I am originally from Dorset, where I studied Spanish at GCSE and A Level, acquiring an A* at GCSE and a B at A Level. I believe I am a hard working individual with every intention on making sure I achieve what I set out to do. I enjoy helping others, working, and socialising with my friends, and I get on really well with new people.

Teaching Experience:

In the past I have helped out with some younger classes at my secondary school when they needed some assistance in some of the classes. Also, as my sister is 5 years younger than me, I have always been the one helping her with homework, or helping if there is something she does not understand. This means that I have some experience working with people who are in the age group I intend to teach.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a structured hour of work where the pupil is thoroughly engaged throughout the session. I think that there is a lot of importance in learning 'discovery' which is where the pupil is not spoon-fed information, but rather encouraged to try and work out patterns in the language e.g. grammar. Obviously if the pupil gets stuck I will help them. I also think grammar is an important part of learning Spanish language due to all of the verb conjugations and gender agreements etc. Homework is also important as doing a little each day is definitely one of the best ways to learn.

Personal Description:
I have achieved a first class degree in Accounting and Business Management. Since then, I have set up my own tutoring business. I am great with children and I find it easy to relate to struggles and problems that they may be facing in school. I aim to help improve student's ability in Maths and where applicable offer transferable skills that could be useful in other subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching in summer schools in East London to children aged 5-17. I have also had work experience in Shooter's Hill Sixth Form teaching GCSE Maths. For the last three years I have helped guide students to passing the 11+, achieving great results at their Year 6 SATs and building confidence in students that were not fond of Maths prior to meeting me. I am able to stay up to date with the national curriculum and show students a number of ways of how to arrive at the correct answer.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching Maths is locating areas of where there is lack of understanding and building foundation from there. The most common problem is that some concepts have not been understood and therefore the student cannot go further until it is understood. It is therefore pivotal that an initial assessment takes place.

Teaching is something that I enjoy doing. I believe in clarity and tend to teach people in methods which I wish I was taught. I break things down and offer plenty chances for the student to ask questions. My approach to tutoring is to equip the student with relevant knowledge first then immediate application. I want to create an environment where the student can inform me if they do not understand the topic. I like to give simple questions until they are confident enough to deal with an advanced question. I believe in encouraging students and making the learning process exciting and fun.

Personal Description:
As a post-graduate and former scientist, I have been tutoring chemistry for over 9 years now. I am an easy going, down to earth person with a natural flare for teaching. I really enjoy helping people to understand difficult concepts and I've always found science captivating. I am the kind of person who is willing to go above and beyond to help if I am able to. I have experience with young people of all ages, from crèche to holiday clubs, teaching in schools and leading teenagers at summer camps.

Teaching Experience:

I have enjoyed studying science at university level for over 8 years, during which time I was also involved in teaching undergraduate students in labs and tutorials. Since then I've held a post in a pharmaceutical lab developing cancer therapies, as well as teaching chemistry, physics and biology in secondary schools. I studied for a PGDE to become a secondary school chemistry teacher in 2010 (but had to end the course early due to severe morning sickness). As such, I have been able to practice and develop a variety of teaching methods and I'm up to date with the relevant exam board course outcomes and requirements. Over the past 9 years, I have professionally tutored many students, covering Standard Grade, Intermediate 2, National 5, Higher, Revised Higher and Advanced Higher Chemistry, Revised Advanced Higher Chemistry, Higher Human Biology and first year University level Biochemistry. About 70% of my students have achieved at least 2 or 3 grade jumps since they started tutorials with me.

I have several positive references and a CRB enhanced disclosure, which will be available to view on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly approach to tutoring. I like my students to feel at ease so that they are able to ask me anything. I'm of the mind set that no question is too silly to ask. My tutorials are structured and tailored around the individual student. Depending on the time we have available before an exam/NAB, we will identify key areas that the student experiences difficulty with and work through them addressing Knowledge & Understanding and Problem Solving, both of which are key to achieving the individual's desired grade. I endeavour to cover all topics of the course if we are able to, as I often find that there are areas that a student realises they are not up to scratch on once we start to revise it. I create personalised worksheets for my students and we spend a lot of time going through past papers, as well as developing exam/study technique.

As tutition progresses, I have witnessed a huge increase in the confidence that every one of my students hold in their own ability to problem solve as well as understand their given course work. I have often had comments from students and parents that I make things easy to understand and that the student is actually enjoying their course a lot more since commencing tutoring. I try to make myself available as much as possible to answer queries from tutees by e-mail or text, especially in the run up to class tests or exams.

Here's what one of my previous tutees had to say: "Dale tutored me throughout my higher Chemistry course and I honestly could not have got an A without her! She managed to explain the complex concepts essential to understanding chemistry in a way that I could relate to real life. She was always supportive and motivated me to do well. She was always flexible and able to fit in between my busy schedule. Even now when I have issues with my course work at Medical school I know I could drop her an e-mail with questions and she would be more than happy to help out. Overall Dale is fantastic, if you want a good grade whilst having fun she is your best bet!" - Eilidh.

All of my preparation time (typically 2 hours per session), travel time and travel expenses are included in the hourly rate. I prefer not to travel more than 7 miles from home but will still be happy to consider this.

Personal Description:
Hi all (and apologies for awful hair in profile picture). I am currently a Oxford University reading mathematics (after studying at Dr Challoners), meaning that I am only available for tutoring outside of term times (although keep in mind Oxford vacations are very long! Feel free to contact me through the site and I can give you more specific information for when I am available). After trying to teach my family bits of maths for a while they have eventually tired of it so hopefully I might have more joy sharing my enthusiasm with a willing student!

Teaching Experience:

Aside from helping my younger sibling and kids I babysit with their homework, I also volunteered in a school run scheme where older students tutor struggling KS3 students once a week, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also have some experience tutoring other students through this site.

Tutoring Approach:

When studying maths, I have often found that a sound understanding of the basic underlying principles to be key, so this is what I would hope to instill in a any students. I would also focus on developing passion and enthusiasm for the subject as this is also incredibly useful, as it encourages students to spend more time to engage with material, in a more rigorous fashion.

Personal Description:
INTENSIVE EASTER REVISION COURSES AVAILABLE. PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
I studied History and Sociology at Liverpool University. Futhermore my Post Graduate Certificate is in Religious Education. I am a very experienced teacher for over 30 years and have been, separately, Head of History, Head of Religious Education and Citizenship as well as being a Head of a Sixth Form Centre. I have taught a large number of GCSE and A Level classes, and have a proven track record of my students achieving excellent results in GCSE History, Sociology, Social Science and Citizenship. I am also an examiner for the Edexcel examination board. My specialism is Modern History at both GCSE, and 'A' Level. Furthermore, I have great experience of the specialisms: The Changing role of Women and Suffrage 1860 -1930: The Changing role of poverty in Britain 1832-1945: Germany 1919-1945. I am also very familiar with the Twentieth Century British history as well as being a specialist in the Cold War, I also teach A Level Sociology and A Level Law.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a secondary school teacher for over 30 years, and Head of Department/s for over 20 as well as being a Head of Sixth Form. My department's A Level History results are excellent and I have taught students who have progressed to Oxbridge and the Russell Group of universities.
I am also an examiner for the Edexcel GCSE History and the Edexcel A2 History Independent study option.

Tutoring Approach:

Having taught for over 30 years I am extremely familiar with the exam specifications and the skills needed to achieve the highest grades. My approach is to focus first on the content, and ensure you know the details needed for the exam, and then look at exam style and technique. However, I would tailor my approach to the individual requirements of the tutee.

Personal Description:
A professional and experienced tutor, I've studied maths and physics at degree level. I've considerable experience of teaching in colleges, summer schools, within companies and in one-to-one sessions, with students of all ages and abilities. In addition to this, I spent over a decade delivery training to corporate professionals. I now specialise in maths intervention at primary level.

Teaching Experience:

I've worked with students of all ages from 5 to 75 and across a variety of subjects and levels. What I've enjoyed most is seeing the progress all my students have made, but particularly those with learning challenges - whether it's to do with subject knowledge, concentration or behaviour. I've found that infinite patience is often the answer!

Tutoring Approach:

Absolutely key to tutoring is flexibility and adaptability. Everybody is different and learns in different ways. Each session starts out with specific topics and goals in mind, but these can - and often do - change as the session progresses and other priorities come to light. My challenge is to find a way to achieve those goals that will suit the student, taking into account what they already know, and how they best absorb and retain new information.

And finally, although I'm not there to become the student's friend, it's nevertheless essential that I build a rapport with them quickly to foster a supportive yet friendly learning environment. This helps ensures the sessions are as productive as possible.

Personal Description:
My work history is unwaveringly intertwined with education, teaching a range of subjects, in a range of different settings, with students of all ages and abilities. I have over 15 years experience, the majority of my work has been at secondary level, where my specialisms are English and English Literature, Film studies and Drama. However, I also have extensive experience in primary education where I have taught across the breadth of the curriculum.

My preoccupation with academia was nurtured at a competitive Grammar School, RGS Worcester, a top school with high expectations. I excelled in this environment, always achieving the best academic results. I went on to acquire a first class degree. I remain now, as I have always been, a high achiever.

I also work in the creative arts, as actor, tutor and director, inspired by performance art in all its forms. My current artistic interests include revising classics, puppetry, theatre in non-traditional spaces, and working as a freelance drama consultant to help smaller scale theatre companies realise their artistic aims and consolidate their working practices.

Recreationally I enjoy martial arts, exercise and the outdoors. As an avid reader I am particularly drawn to epic literature and sprawling worlds, beguiling first person narratives, comparative religious and spiritual studies, psychology, philosophy and history.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience includes:

Secondary Level Education:
- I worked for 6 years as a secondary school teacher, delivering Drama and English lessons, including GCSE and 'A' level, from year 7- year 13.
-I devised and delivered a formal curriculum to teach Year 9 Drama (in line with Key Stage Guidelines).
-Extensive experience in coursework, marking, moderation and exam preparation.
-On 2 separate occasions, following Ofsted observations, I was given an 'Outstanding' classification (the highest classification).
-Quantitative end of term reports always placed my classes amongst the highest in terms of achievement and student retention.
-I also assumed responsibility for cross-curricular teaching, for instance, devising lessons about The Industrial Revolution which spanned History, English, Art and Psychology.

'A' level Education:
-I taught for 6 years at 2 different Further Education Colleges. I taught English Literature, Drama and Film Studies 'A' level.
-Students were offered extra-curricular tutorials to help them achieve their desired results according to their own set of educational needs.
-I emboldened students for university entrance with interview techniques, UCAS procedures and university level preparation.
-The coursework I devised with students for their final A2 Drama and Theatre Studies was picked up as an exemplar of excellent practice, and is still used to this day by Edexcel examination board as a standard to which other schools should aim.

Primary:
-Following my successes at Secondary Education the Local Education Authority sought my services to teach in 'special-measures' primary schools across the West Midlands region.
-I devised a range of workshops, and delivered these to selected primary schools. These workshops raised literacy levels, written and oral communication. They were delivered to year 4, year 5 and year 6 students.
-My work with Redditch Borough Council as Literacy and Outreach Officer earned me an 'Outstanding personal Achievement Award'.
- I have worked as a Supply Teacher in numerous London Primary Schools, teaching all subjects, cross-curricular.

Adult Education:
-I've worked with young people trying to get back into education following exclusion, this involved working with charities like CentrePoint.
-I often work with adult learners re-taking their GCSE English.
-Postgraduate students have sought my help in the past, particularly International Students looking to improve the precision of their essays.

Complex Educational Needs:
-I am trained in Advanced Behaviour Management.
-I have experience working with SEN and PMLD students.

University Level:
-Delivering Theatre and Drama lectures, seminars and workshops to students at university level, including The University of Birmingham, University of Worcester, University of Bristol, and University of Warwick.

Other Achievements:
- Community arts and education provision. Following successful Arts Council grants I set up 2 new community arts and education groups in the West Midlands. The aim here was to build permanent organisations to provide access to education, through the arts, for all, regardless of prior educational achievement. These 2 organisations, both of which are still running to this day, are now self-sustaining businesses, now staffed by people who were once students of the organisation.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring involves the mutual balance of 2 equally important intentions: a sensitive awareness of what a student needs, and establishing a conducive rapport.

I have a flexible communication style, informed by exposure to hosts of different students, I am adaptable and responsive, a necessity built on the recognition that effective learning can only happen when tutor and student understand each other, and are mutually inspired.

At first, my focus with a new student is to provide gentle provocations on different aspects of the subject matter- a process which allows me to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie, also allowing the student to start seeing the subject matter from varying perspectives, and to extend their range of problem-solving and communication strategies.

My approach always depends on the specific needs of the student, most commonly students ask for:
-Information building and comprehension
-Essay writing technique
-Filling in historical/ social/ political or cultural context to areas of study (particularly at 'A' level)
-Response to examination questions
-Improving literacy level, reading and comprehension, grammar (particularly at primary level)
-Extending and developing powers of expression
-Drawing links and developing argument
-Understanding what a question is asking
-The application of knowledge to argument

I pride myself, above all else, on my ability to engage my students. The subjects I teach I find instantly inspiring, and this love of the raw material is compounded by the fact that I genuinely care about the targets my students set for themselves. Each student is a project, and watching them improve over a programme of study is exceptionally gratifying.

You will find me a generous tutor, I am not a clock watcher, it doesn't matter, for instance, if a class runs over. I will work hard for you between lessons, marking, researching, and developing new lessons and academic exercises. I am always well prepared, focused upon specific needs of student, and always an authority on what I'm teaching.

My tutoring style is tempered by profound understanding and experience of examination board and national curriculum requirements. Moreover, my many years working as an educator entailed the need to develop a flexible range of teaching strategies correspondent to the varying learning preferences of my students.

Some recent feedback:
'I wish you had been my tutor before, I feel a lot more confident'
(Chitra, GCSE English, Adult Learner)
'Great attitude and rapport with my son very engaging'
(Sarah, mother of 'A' level; Film and Studies student)
'We are delighted to have Chris helping my daughter and her friend with the written exam In the last few weeks of their Drama and Theatre `A ` level. Inspiring, flexible, fun -knowledgable about the plays, their history and context- he is a fantastic tutor.'
(Felicity, mother of 'A' level Drama and Theatre Studies student)

Personal Description:
I am a very calm and patient person, which has further developed through my teaching experience. I have a good sense of humour and am passionate about education, traits I feel are vital in teaching in order to build a trusting relationship where education and tutoring is valued among pupils.

I am available after 4pm on weekdays and any time at weekends, however during school holidays I can be available any time on both week days and weekends.

Teaching Experience:

- Studied Primary Education and Teaching at university, which included a number of placements within different Primary schools, including a specialist behaviour school.

- Self-organised placement at a Primary and Secondary Pupil Referral Unit.

- Teaching Assistant at a school in Richmond within year 4 for six months as maternity cover.

- Currently working as a maths teacher within a secondary Pupil Referral Unit in Basingstoke since May 2016, after acting as a teaching assistant there from January 2016. I work with pupils who have emotional or behavioural difficulties, helping to improve their attitudes to education and working with the school to re-integrate them into mainstream schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very flexible in my approach to teaching and tutoring others, adapting according to the pupil I am with. I think it is important to build strong, positive relationships with those I teach, establishing mutual respect and trust so that pupils feel confident in asking questions and discussing concepts in order to create a deeper understanding of a topic. In building these relationships I feel that I can gain a greater understanding of pupils and how they work best, contributing to more successful learning.

Personal Description:
I am an Interpreter in the Manchester area. I finished college a year ago and now I am ready to try other things . My hobbies consist of drawing and basically anything art related. One of my favourite things is trying to find ways to improve my skills. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and puts me at ease every time I manage to finish my artwork. I'm extremely interested in learning new languages, mainly Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and French. I'm a big fan of diversity; culture is something fascinating, so I like to learn about people's different tastes. I love adventure movies and listening to music. I'm a good listener, so I don't like to be the only one that's always talking but give the opportunity for everyone in the conversation to be able to express themselves.

Teaching Experience:

I come from a very big family; I am one of the eldest so basically I helped all my seven cousins and three younger sisters after me, with their homework and computer tasks. I also helped a few friends with personal and educational related stuff. In college, I frequently would finish first so I would usually help my classmates with their assignments, and sometimes, even units. I don't really have any experience as an official tutor, but I had very good grades at school and at college, so if you're interested in learning, perfecting or just working on a school or college assignment, I'll offer my help as much as I can.

Tutoring Approach:

As I was a student myself, I know the struggles of not being able to understand a subject and how stressful it can be. So I understand that each person has their own way of learning. As your tutor, I will do my best to adapt to your needs and difficulties, hoping that you will not shy away from clearly and honestly telling me when you do not understand something I have said or showed in the form of illustrations. As I have studied IT helping you with computer related needs will not be a problem. It is very important that we both feel comfortable speaking to each other so that the learning becomes easier, which also applies to your own learning preference of course. This is my first time tutoring but I believe that for everything you need to take your time.. I've learned to become patient, and I am very organised with my things. My aim is to help you become a better student, so please allow me along with you, to work towards that.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a teacher for the last 2 years and I have also worked with English people that wanted to learn Spanish since 2005 until 2012 that it was when I moved to the UK. I also know how difficult it can be to choose the most suitable Spanish tutor. Therefore, I encourage you to get in touch to arrange an appointment so that I can demonstrate and explain how I can help your children in an effective and fun way.
