Personal Description:
I am only taking on a small number of students this year. My skill set is best suited to students who are not reaching their optimal potential because of emotional stresses at home or school, or because the teaching is inadequate at school

My background in counselling helps me build rapport and bring out the best in students who have had emotional problems at school.

I am concerned with education of the whole person, rather than cramming in knowledge just to get through that exam.

I have experience of teaching both in schools, colleges and universities and bring a depth of understanding to my work with people from nine to ninety.

I have four grown up children.

I have worked in 3 of the four top universities in the UK. I am involved in educational projects in a number of schools.

Teaching Experience:

BA Hons. PGCE 1974. I have taught in primary and secondary schools, as well as sixth form colleges and universities, including Oxford and the London School of Economics.. I have also taught in private schools and been a director of a school of counselling and psychotherapy. I have taught psychology at Abingdon and Witney College, and poetry in many Oxfordshire Schools. I teach poetry short courses for Oxford University at the Ashmolean museum. I teach both GCSE and IGCSE courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always do my best to help a student improve their exam performance, using my wide knowledge of psychology and counselling/coaching skills, as well as my subject knowledge. I most enjoy working with students who want to gain a deeper understanding of their subjects that will be of use to them in their real lives, rather than just to get through an exam. I am very good at building a rapport with students, and finding a way to bring the best out of their skill set.

Personal Description:
I grew up in the UK and then worked in Indonesia for 10 years, teaching Indonesian scholars on pre-departure academic programs. I also taught cross-cultural and study skills courses. After Indonesia, I moved to Australia, where I worked at two universities in Brisbane, the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. More recently I have worked on Exeter and Bath University's pre-sessional program. I'm a friendly, kind and patient person with a good sense of humour and I love teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 20 years, mainly in the UK, Australia and Indonesia. I have experience working with English language learners at all levels and particularly at the university level. I can prepare students before their academic study or can assist them when they have already started university.
I am also very experienced in exam preparation. Most of my work has been on IELTS preparation courses (I used to be an IELTS examiner) but also on FCE preparation programs. I currently teach students in groups and one-to-one and I am available for Skype classes.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it's important to listen to students and identify their individual needs. I try and see them as they are, without judgment and I also encourage them to see the facts about their language learning, rather than their opinions. Many students say they are 'bad students' and this does not help their learning. So I show them a different path where they can look at the specifics of what they are doing and how they can improve their skills step by step. This makes them feel better about themselves and their studies. It also gives them responsibility for their own learning.
I also bring humour into the classroom as I feel laughter is very important to the learning process. Some students have said that my classes are 'like being in a family' and I think that's a lovely compliment.

Personal Description:
I was born and raised in Cyprus and moved to England to study Music. I have acquired a Music bachelor's degree at Anglia Ruskin University and I am in the process of completing another BA in Jazz at Middlesex University London. I also have a grade 8 of Harmony of music and a grade 7 of Electric Guitar. As a professional guitarist I spend my time performing in various settings and in different styles such as Jazz, Blues, Funk and Rock as well as classical music.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching guitar and music theory privately for the last 7 years in Cambridge and London. In the last 2 years along with being a full time student I have worked as an SLA (Student Learning Assistant) at Middlesex university. This has been a great way to gain teaching experience, working alongside my teachers in supporting the learning experience of students of the below mine. Part of the job includes organising one-to-one and group workshops to review taught material and clarify assignments. I also participated (as a volunteer) in music workshops in London organized by the GPA (Greek Parents Association) and KITE MUSIC. I took part in rehearsals that led up to a concert, where I helped the participants (4-19 year old children of Greek parents born in the UK) with phonetic pronunciation, Greek diction and memorizing their part in the chorus as well as teaching chord patterns to young guitar playing participants. Finally I took part in an internship programme at Haslingfield Endowed Primary School where I assisted the Music teacher in preparation for a student concert in honour of composer Henry Purcell.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to tailor the lesson around the needs of the student. Every student is an individual with different goals and aspirations as well as strengths.

For example, I find that for children under the age of 10, a 30 minute or 45 minute lesson can be more productive as the student does not get as tired or lose concentration. Also a lesson plan will be significantly different for a student who wants to learn theory, harmony and guitar rather than a student who is interested in focusing in only one of those subjects.

Personal Description:
I am married with a daughter of 24 and a son of 21. On occasion I help my husband garden for the elderly and disabled. I graduated from Exeter University in 1985. Teaching has always been a vocation rather than a job as I love seeing the 'penny drop'.

Teaching Experience:

In the last 2 Secondary schools I was a Deputy Head of Science and the Professional Tutor for the school. Whilst teaching I covered the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 syllabus. I then had the pleasure of working in the primary sector for 6 years teaching the Key Stage 2 syllabus. Since 2005 I have been tutoring students ranging from 7 years of age to adults. Education Otherwise gave me the opportunity to teach in various homes during the day. I offer day time tutoring to fit the needs of the individual student.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is informal. I believe students learn best when they are at ease and not under pressure. If students are distracted in their own home I offer them tuition in my home. My students marks have improved by 2 grades and in the last 18 months several have jumped up 3 grades leaving students, parents and myself very happy.

Hi all (and apologies for awful hair in profile picture). I am currently a Oxford University reading mathematics (after studying at Dr Challoners), meaning that I am only available for tutoring outside of term times (although keep in mind Oxford vacations are very long! Feel free to contact me through the site and I can give you more specific information for when I am available). After trying to teach my family bits of maths for a while they have eventually tired of it so hopefully I might have more joy sharing my enthusiasm with a willing student!

Teaching Experience:

Aside from helping my younger sibling and kids I babysit with their homework, I also volunteered in a school run scheme where older students tutor struggling KS3 students once a week, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also have some experience tutoring other students through this site.

Tutoring Approach:

When studying maths, I have often found that a sound understanding of the basic underlying principles to be key, so this is what I would hope to instill in a any students. I would also focus on developing passion and enthusiasm for the subject as this is also incredibly useful, as it encourages students to spend more time to engage with material, in a more rigorous fashion.

Personal Description:
At Birmingham University I obtained a first class degree in mathematics and went on to qualify as a chartered accountant. It was my desire to learn Spanish that originally made me move to Andalucía in the south of Spain ten years ago. With full immersion in the language, I soon became fluent in Spanish. In order to be with my wife, I moved to Guatemala, where I took the opportunity for a career change in the local village school. I realised that teaching gave a much higher job satisfaction and was much more suited to my lively, upbeat manner.

Teaching Experience:

After some teacher training I found a job as a maths teacher in an international bilingual school called Atitlán Multicultural Academy. I went on to become the headmaster of the school for three years. Monitoring and assessing other teachers gave me a great insight into different styles. After the birth of my daughter I wanted to travel less so I started giving Spanish and maths lessons via skype. This video conferencing tool means I can give classes face to face to students in the comfort of their own home.

Tutoring Approach:

My Spanish lesson plans are based completely on the student's objectives and learning styles. Most of my present students want to learn conversational Spanish, so I concentrate more on the oral skills of speaking and listening. However, I always try and cover the grammatical points in a clear systematic way, ensuring the student does not get demotivated with the more technical side. The most important for me is that learning is fun, and clear advancements are made in each class.

The maths lessons deal with the specific problems of the students to aid understanding in areas that they did not fully pick up in school. I specialise in exam preparation for GCSE, AS level and A level. The students are made to analyse the question, break down the requirements and give structure to their answers whilst making notes on the steps which they found difficult.

Personal Description:
I can help with the new GCSE/GCE exams and Brighton College and Westminster School scholarship coaching are recent successes. I am also a former Advanced Skills Teacher with many years of experience working in a comprehensive school with all abilities from GCSE to A levels / Oxbridge entrance. My key priority is to provide a safe learning setting where the learner and my starting point is always to be where the learner is rather than a fixed programme in advance.

Enhanced DBS / CRB status February 2014

Clearly you will need to know if this will be the right arrangement for you, so the first lesson is free with no commitment to continue.

If your child has the potential, I can enable him or her to achieve the highest grades: knowing what the exam requires you to do will make a difference

Teaching Experience:

I have coached a pupil who gained a scholarship for Brighton College and another who was awarded the Queen's Scholarship to enter Westminster School, London. In both cases exams tested a whole range of traditional skills set at a relatively demanding level for this age group. Future candidates would be welcome to contact me.

Prior to this, I have taught pupils from 11 years upwards to Advanced Level pupils heading for Oxbridge. I have worked as an examiner for an exam board, set and marked papers at GCSE and taught adults in evening classes.

Tutoring Approach:

Tuition offered via Skype which offers greater flexibility of timings, lengths of lesson etc as well benefits for teaching using Google docs which record lesson progress, better use of resources etc.

Tuition also offered in student's home within Brighton if required or a mix of the above

On-line tasks can be set in between lessons to practise skills learnt.

Lively approach including games where appropriate.

Teaching linked to the exam board specification you are working towards including specific skills at GCSE / A level.

Grammar taught relevant to your needs: to include the new course requirements when published.

Feedback after each session to parents/ guardian or carer if requested to include likely grade potential at GCSE / A level or IB

A / AS / IB level students will work through short accessible texts to build up topic vocabulary but also support class tuition in your college or school.

Common Entrance Level candidates or specific entry exams for schools will receive very focused teaching to prepare for the exam.

Adult tuition for business or leisure.

I would be pleased to work with students in groups of 2 or 3 for a reduced fee per person.

Fees are a little higher than perhaps for other tutors, but you will be receiving a premium service with many more benefits than a session's tuition: every 10th lesson is free!

Personal Description:
I'm a flexible, energetic and dynamic tutor offering lessons in English, Violin and 11+ to students from primary age to A-level and beyond. I have a passion for English literature and music, and I love to teach.

As I have been finishing my PhD, I have gradually been taking on more pupils for private tuition. I specialize in bringing the academic study of English to life for school students by combining a dynamic and accessible approach with the exciting ideas and research I have experienced at university level.

Teaching Experience:

I have a range of classroom and 1-to-1 teaching experience. As an English tutor, I have worked with a range of students from primary to PhD level. I am experienced at preparing students for exams, 11+ and university entrance, including intensive revision work to prepare students for a particular exam.
I have also delivered the GCSE English curriculum to a home-schooled pupil as her only English teacher. At the University of St Andrews, I was employed for 3 years as a tutor for undergraduate students in the English and Music departments. Through my tutorials on essay writing skills, I was able to significantly improve the marks of my cohort of students, and I teach the same techniques to my pupils at school stage. After qualifying with the widely recognized CELTA certificate in English Language Teaching, I spent several summers teaching English language to classes of children and teenagers aged from 10 to 18.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning with a tutor can be much, much more fun than learning in school! And since literature is all about life, learning to critically read and interpret literary texts, whether at GCSE or undergraduate level, will open your eyes to look at the world in a new way. I love the fact that through my experience of university life as a student and teacher, I can fast-track my school-aged pupils to the skills and ideas they'll need at university and beyond. The study of English literature at university is a different world to that at school - I wish I had known at school how rich and interesting the subject was. Through my teaching, I aim to inspire my students not only to understand and appreciate the great works of literature that they study, but to use them to understand big ideas about history and society.

I am also keenly aware of the requirements of the various exam boards, and I tailor my approach to developing skills to excel in particular exams and beyond. I particularly enjoy preparing students for exams such as GCSE and A-level, and I am equally at home providing challenging debate to stretch the most gifted and talented pupils, or inspiring enthusiasm in students who want to improve their grades. One of the best things about private tuition is seeing my pupils develop their confidence, whether in musical performance or tackling the big ideas in works of literature.

As a violin teacher, I love to teach beginners of any age, but particularly young children. My lessons are lively, interactive and engaging, developing all-round musical ability in a way that is fun and motivating. I can also act as a practice buddy for any instrument, and assist with reading music, sight-reading, music theory and aural training skills.

My name is Ana I am from Spain. I studied Biotechnology and a masters in Education that allows you to e a teacher (I have already my QTS).
So I can teach Biology, due to my strong background in science. and Spanish as it is my mother tongue.

I work in a school in the science department helping teachers and preparing experiments.
I love to transmit the knowledge to others and I try to make sure that the topics are understood! Avoiding the boring and repetition are the keys!

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Spanish since September 2015 for GCSE, Primary and Adult learners.
I taught Biology during my masters training for 6 months and I am assisting students in science in the classroom since one year ago.

Tutoring Approach:

Spanish for GCSE, I usually bring resources, past papers, exercises to revise the writing, use of Spanish and speaking as well as the level is more focused in that kind of examinations.

For primary level I have lots of resources to learn Spanish playing different games at the same time they learn a lot of vocabulary. I usually prepare easy tasks for grammar as well (the basic).

For adult learner, I bring texts or articles to discuss as well as they can learn or refresh vocabulary, grammar.. if they want to focus in conversation. Otherwise I follow a guide to approach the level looked for.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a GB skeleton athlete currently on a sabbatical from my job as an exercise physiologist. My expertise is in sport science, specialising in physiology which I have a MSc degree from Loughborough University. I am living in Bath again (I did my first degree here) in order to train full-time for skeleton, with the goal being to compete at the Olympic Games in 2022.

I have plenty of ambition, drive and determination and love to inspire people to work hard to achieve their goals. So far I have achieved all the goals I set for myself since school e.g. studying at university, working in elite sport.

I studied maths, english, science, history, geography, P.E., textiles and French for GCSE and got A and A* grades. At A level I studied biology,P.E. and history and received AAB respectively. I have a upper second class honours BSc in sport and exercise science from The University of Bath and a first class MSc in exercise physiology.

Teaching Experience:

I was a class tutor at Loughborough College for three months after graduating from Loughborough University. This involved working closely with pupils to assist them with their school work across a number of subjects at GCSE level.

Part of my role as a sport scientist was to educate athletes on a number of subjects which would improve their performance. This involved constructing and delivering presentations to groups of adults as well as GCSE/A level students. I also regularly worked on a one to one basis to educate athletes on ways they can improve their performance. In both instances I always use examples to demonstrate the point I am making and improve understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a supportive tutor, who encourages students to find the solutions to their problems. I aim to facilitate learning, not spoon feed. I'm also keen to focus on the bigger picture in order to motivate students, for example reminding them that the work is important so they can pass their exams to get into university. I find having a goal is a strong motivator and also the practise of setting goals puts students in good stead for the future.

I take a kind and patient approach to tutoring. I like to encourage students to adopt a growth mindset whereby they do not fear failure and value hard work and effort.

I can help with coursework and revision on a variety of subjects, but my expertise is Psychology. Professionally, I am an editor thus am able to proofread, edit and advise on work for greater coherence. Students can expect a high quality service and a friendly approach from me as I like to engage with people, help them to organise, plan and practice. Those with special needs such as dyslexia and Autism can also reach out for help with academic or study skills related support, I would like to say that I have completed a Mental Health course as well as worked with Dyslexic and Autistic young adults which has boosted my knowledge on the barriers faced by such groups of people.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored students for over 4 years, with coursework help and guidance. I am a student myself thus am fully aware of the type of support students require, with a strong will in answering queries so please don't hesitate to ask.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide a friendly and approachable style for students, I can easily connect with you all as I nurture a passion for people. My availability is vast even on short notice, mainly due to the fact that I sympathise with students who often require assistance at late hours of the day such as night time when they may panic. Thus I am here to help calm those nerves and provide support. Students can thus be assure of a prompt reply from me as I keep a close eye on my email/texts, I fully understand that when students need help they often get disappointed as no one answers their queries at odd hours. I have kept my hourly rate fairly low as I'm aware that students are short of funds and so would not like to make support expensive for them, knowledge and expertise should not be made difficult for students than it already is.
