Personal Description:
I grew up in the UK and then worked in Indonesia for 10 years, teaching Indonesian scholars on pre-departure academic programs. I also taught cross-cultural and study skills courses. After Indonesia, I moved to Australia, where I worked at two universities in Brisbane, the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. More recently I have worked on Exeter and Bath University's pre-sessional program. I'm a friendly, kind and patient person with a good sense of humour and I love teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 20 years, mainly in the UK, Australia and Indonesia. I have experience working with English language learners at all levels and particularly at the university level. I can prepare students before their academic study or can assist them when they have already started university.
I am also very experienced in exam preparation. Most of my work has been on IELTS preparation courses (I used to be an IELTS examiner) but also on FCE preparation programs. I currently teach students in groups and one-to-one and I am available for Skype classes.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it's important to listen to students and identify their individual needs. I try and see them as they are, without judgment and I also encourage them to see the facts about their language learning, rather than their opinions. Many students say they are 'bad students' and this does not help their learning. So I show them a different path where they can look at the specifics of what they are doing and how they can improve their skills step by step. This makes them feel better about themselves and their studies. It also gives them responsibility for their own learning.
I also bring humour into the classroom as I feel laughter is very important to the learning process. Some students have said that my classes are 'like being in a family' and I think that's a lovely compliment.

Personal Description:
I did my undergraduate degree at St Andrews University and postgrad at Durham University; I've just returned from a year on research in the US. I love teaching and work for the Open University, which involves finding innovative ways to teach a large range of topics to students from 18 to 70 years old, which always makes for an interesting experience. I'm living in Newcastle and love the North East in general.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching at degree level since 2002, I have over 250 hours of face-to-face teaching experience.

I also have a Durham Teaching and Learning Award, a peer- and student- nominated annual prize given to 3-5 teachers in the university to recognise outstanding achievement.

I've taught in both the Philosophy and Theology & Religion departments of Durham University, as well as teaching Introductions to Arts & Humanities for the Open University. I frequently teach study skills and help address specific students' concerns about how to improve.

My experience also includes work in the Access/Widening Participation arena, and I have taught a variety of topics for the 14-18 age range, including work on the Sutton Trust Summer School programme.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is best summed up as "everyone is different". Finding out what someone enjoys, what they're good at, and how they think, is the first step in helping them get the most they can out of any topic or situation. The ways that people learn, and the things that fire their imaginations, are diverse - but the expectations of coursework and exams don't always recognise that. I see my job as not simply preparing people to pass a test or master a skill, but as helping them to discover what works best for them as a student, and giving them the confidence to approach new challenges successfully.

Personal Description:
SAXOPHONE-I am an experienced saxophonist. Currently I play both alto and baritone saxophone. I have taught young pupils at my old school before for free, but now that i have gained enough experience, not just as a teacher but at a very high level in bands too, I am starting to tutor. I teach many different styles, have it be jazz, pop or classical. I offer tuition for students of all ages. Whether you are young and just starting out or older and wish to try something new/different for fun and want some guidance in the right direction, I am here to help. I teach for those at a amateur and beginner level. Music is a great passion of mine and I really enjoy teaching others something so great.

MATHS- I am a higher level maths student and i have an A grade at GCSE level maths. During my free periods i spend time helping lower school student who are struggling with their maths for free because i really enjoy teaching. I teach everything from key stage 1,2 and 3 maths to foundation GCSE students. Maths has always been a great ability of mine and I mainly teach it because I have a love for it and in my experience those who i have taught have found me very helpful.

Teaching Experience:

SAXOPHONE- I have taught young pupils at my old school before for free to gain some experience in teaching. I also play at a high level in the Hillingdon Music Service concert band and Sax Group, as well as in multiple Jazz and Big Bands.I have been on tour to France with the Music Service as well and have played for weddings too. I now have a good level of experience in both playing and teaching.

MATHS- I have been teaching GCSE and lower level maths for a few years now. I was part of a team who a few years ago went to the UK maths challenge representing my region of London. I enjoy teaching maths and in my experience those who i have taught have found me very useful.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that bringing out the passion in the student is what counts, so for music the genre they enjoy most and helping them fall in love with music that way. With maths i believe having a strategic plan of getting a topic or part of maths that the student is struggling with and keeping at it and doing questions and going through the solutions with them until they understand. I understand that many people struggle with maths or may not like it but i find that someone younger (such as myself) teaching them makes it a lot easier on them. Another good way i find with maths is going through questions and helping them understand how to get to the answer rather than just giving the answer and moving on with a simple tick or cross.

Personal Description:
I am a science teacher who loves teaching and tutoring. I have a PhD in chemistry and my subject knowledge is excellent. This enables me to approach a topic from multiple directions to help a student to understand.

Teaching Experience:

For the last few years I have been Head of Chemistry in a selective state school. Previously I taught Chemistry in a non-selective independent school. This teaching experience has been augmented by private tutoring where I have supported students of all abilities at KS5, KS4 and KS3.

As well as teaching chemistry at KS3, GCSE, and A level, I have extensive experience of taking students beyond the A level curriculum, for example, BMAT preparation. I also have experience at teaching physics to GCSE and biology to KS3 and maths to KS4.

Tutoring Approach:

Many students are limited by their confidence and my approach is to take them in small steps from what they know to what they need to know to achieve their objectives. I seek to identify a person's preferred learning style and tune my teaching to achieve success. My first priority is always to ensure the student has a comprehensive understanding of a topic and I assess understanding continually. After a topic is mastered to the point where the knowledge can be applied, I use past examination papers and ensure that the student understands the expected form of answer to the full range of examination questions.

Personal Description:
I am a multilingual qualified teacher of Modern Greek language. I earned my Undergraduate degree from the Department of Greek at the University of Thrace with a specialization in Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology. My native languages are Greek and Russian and I speak English fluently. Feeling the need to take the next step in my life, I decided to continue my studies at the University of Glasgow so now I tutor on a part-time basis. Regarding my attributes, I would consider myself as a responsible, patient and driven person. I strongly believe that it is important to give your best and pay attention to detail. This is the reason why, I think, I have developed such a respectful relationship with my previous students - the deep and sincere commitment to my duties.

Teaching Experience:

For the past nine years, I have been tutoring students in their preparation for high school and entrance exams in modern and ancient Greek, Latin, writing and composition skills, literature and history. This experience has been extremely rewarding to me. I particularly enjoy the process of gradually building knowledge and skills in the mind of my students, but most of all the interaction and emotional contact with them. The most interesting and challenging experience I have had professionally was teaching Greek as a foreign language to Russian immigrants, course I taught in Russian. In this way, not only was I working as a teacher but also as a ''translator'' trying to convey all the meanings, the grammatical system and the syntactic structure from Russian to Greek, which was our ''target language''.

Tutoring Approach:

In order to go further with my tutoring approach, I successfully attended the Annual Training Program on Psychology of the Greek Public Academy, studying among other things Developmental and Child Psychology, Special Treatment, Psychology of Language, Thematic Blocs for Parents and Social Psychology. I have faith in the fact that every person is unique and special. This is the reason why I always try to adapt my teaching methods and communication to meet different needs and interests. Therefore, I emphasize student-centred and active teaching approaches to engage students in their learning, which should be a continuous and personalized process. Besides, building trusting and effective professional relationships with children, young people and adults is an essential part of my role.

Personal Description:
Hi everyone, I am originally from Turkey and have lived in England since 2005. I can speak fluent Italian, English and I am native Turkish speaker. I am an Italian High School graduate and I have a first class honours degree from Liverpool John Moores University in FineArt in 2012. Beside my fine art practice I work as private tutor in Italian and Turkish.

Teaching Experience:

I have six years of experience in private tutoring, I teach Italian and Turkish.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy teaching very much and for me it's very important to see each student as an individual and understand his or her unique needs, learning style, social and cultural background, interest, personality and abilities. All this information helps me to become successful in teaching. Languages are based on sound and they all have different melodies and rhythms, so in some of my classes I use music and melody to teach my students. I teach at my premises or I can come to your home to teach and I am also available for online teaching. My classes lasts 1.5 hours. The classes plan will be dicussed at the first meeting and a bespoke programme designed around the students individual needs and requirements.

Personal Description:
The social sciences are my expertise. In particular, cinema and art history with critical theory. I have extensive research experience in continental philosophy (Kant, Hegel, Marx, Althusser, Deleuze, Adorno, Badiou, etc.) and am well-versed in a wide-range of media and art theory topics (e.g. modernity, medium specificity, globalisation, avant-gardes, etc.).

I have a decade of experience as a media producer for various web and radio enterprises, and have written professionally for a range of digital publications.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 5 years of experience tutoring across the subjects listed in my profile. And I have also advised successfully on essays, coursework, dissertations and exam preparation from A-level to postgraduate level.

Coursework, essays and dissertation topics I have recently supervised:

- The semiotics of Barthes and Jakobsen
- Base, superstructure and ideological state apparatuses between Marx and Althusser
- The 'wilderness cosmology' of Daoism in classical Chinese Poetry
- Social unrest and China's modernisation project in the cinema of Jia Zhangke
- A comparative political analysis of Halklarin Demokratik Partisi and Ciudadanos
- Jean Baudrillard's concept of Hyperreality and 'The Truman Show'
- Phenomenology and Bad Faith between Edmund Husserl and Jean-Paul Sartre
- Postmodern urbanism and the cinema of Neill Blomkamp
- The Fauvist revolution in modern painting
- The Printing Press and media theory since Elizabeth Eisenstein
- Consumerism, and the media spectacle in urban Chengdu
- The fashion film and the "bad bitch": post-feminist representation in contemporary Hollywood cinema

Do contact me to discuss your specific essay, presentation or dissertation needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer two types of tuition: online (text-based) and in-person (verbal).

Online tuition is the most efficient method for written assignment preparation; superior in my experience than in-person tuition since the student is naturally obliged to articulate concepts, issues and questions directly in the written form that they are required to submit their essays, dissertations, and coursework in. This avoids the extra labour of translating verbal communication to written communication and vice-versa, which slows progress. I conduct online tuition via Skype, which is free to download and use.

In-person tuition is, however, better suited and encouraged for verbal assignments, like presentations and language-speaking practice.

Regardless of type, I always apply a needs-based approach to tuition; allowing my students' needs to dictate pace and intensity. I can, therefore, work closely on particular syllabus material in relation to coursework and exams, or take a broader approach to adult and casual learning.

I offer a full range of help on written work, from "brainstorming", essay or dissertation plans, literature reviews, primary-source gathering, all the way to polishing up the final draft before submission. All written work that I proof-read and supervise will be returned with in-line annotations (using MS Word or LibreOffice's comments and tracked-changes) offering detailed criticisms and suggestions on how to improve anything from grammar, structure, analysis, tone, argument and so forth. I also work fast: written work received before noon can be expected back the same day.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Bristol University in 2009. I have mostly been working as an actor/director/writer in theatre and film since then.

Personal Description:
I'm an independent consultant, trainer and facilitator, working mainly in the business world. I design and run learning workshops in collaborative decision-making and lean thinking for companies of different sizes. I also facilitate Open Space events, inviting large numbers of people to co-create new ways forward in self-organised events where all the participants are at the centre and not a menu of speakers. These are like 1-or 2-day Hackathons, within organisations, such as Innovation Hackathon, Greenup Hackathon and Reinventing Work Hackathon. I also run similar events on demand within communities, in order to bring out engagement, inviting members of communities to co-create and co-determine aspects of their community.

In the business world I'm a bit of a change maverick, wanting to create a better world, and especially better workplaces where people can thrive and grow, rather the usual drudgery of work. Organisations benefit from that too from become eco-systems that thrive innovatively. I learned my 'participative' 'tools' from many years of experimentation and from working in different parts of the world. I have lived in North America, Europe and in Asia, and have travelled way beyond that.

Teaching Experience:

Most of my early teaching experience started with 13 years' English teaching to mainly corporate clients in Japan. I consider myself a highly experienced, versatile and resourceful former Language Teacher (TEFL), Tutor and Coach with further background as Intercultural Consultant. I have extensive experience teaching English in Asia, with expertise in accelerated learning techniques (e.g. suggestopedia) and Peer-based learning through Self-Organising Learning Environments.

I have taught classes and individuals at various levels and for various purposes. I have also done of business English and specialised English for professionals. While I have more experience working with groups than individuals, even as business coach and corporate trainer I have worked most of my life in an educational learning environment. The most important, however, is not about teaching, but about the student learning; it is hence imperative to start from the perspective of what the learner actually needs and working from there. I pride myself in being able to design courses and tuition tailor-made to the specific needs of the learners.

Tutoring Approach:

Unless I am teaching towards academic aims (e.g. GCSE support), I view language as something that is used to communicate with, it is something one does, we do not normally learn a foreign language just for the sake of passive knowledge. To me therefore it is far more important to use the language than just learn it. My approach to tutoring therefore is quite action oriented, we do things with the language, and just like children (who did not learn their native language from a book) language is always used in a context, so it's important to provide contextual clues when introducing new language.

I emphasize engagement and participation a lot, with a strong focus on real communication (rather than practiced communication where possible). Very early on I introduce meta-language, which is language about language (e.g. could you repeat that?, What do you mean by....?, Why do I say ... and not ...?), because this the only kind of real communication that happens in a language class, and thus it is a real opportunity to use real communication. But above all, language should be fun, learn by doing and lively, and my interactive approach always works towards that
