Personal Description:
I'm a very approachable person who interacts well with students of all ages. Most would say that I have a positive outlook on life and always leave a positive impact on those I meet. I'm friendly, down to earth and honest. My philosophy is that studies don't have to be boring, and I always use my career as a teacher/tutor as testament to this.

I enjoy a variety of different things such as arts, culture and cuisine. My hobbies include drawing comic strips, magna, anime and playing electric bass. I am open minded and welcome students of any age, race, background and culture as an honour for me to teach.

Teaching Experience:

Over 7 years experience teaching and tutoring in and out of classrooms. I have taught both in the UK and abroad. I am one of the few teachers in London who is able to teach Mathematics, English Language, English Literature and the three respective Sciences to A* at GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different, and I feel it an insult to my students' integrity to tell them how to revise when first meeting them. Through my experience teaching, there is no right way to study, but there are a variety of 'better' ways to make the best grades for each person's potential.

Many students approach me frustrated that they often don't achieve the same calibre as their peers despite the hours they put in. Often it is due to the fact that they aren't their peers and a different approach to revision and homework is required. I believe in working smart before working hard.

We'll tailor a program as a team, and prioritise it factorising your: current ablities, time proximity, and scope of subjects you'd like to cover.

Personal Description:
I am a 28 year old Masters student taking a career break from advertising to study full time in an area I am passionate about - International Development, at SOAS in London. I previously graduated from the University of Manchester in 2010, where I studied French and Spanish as a Joint Honours, and received a 2:1 with a Distinction in spoken Spanish. I have lived and worked full time in Paris and Argentina for 1 year as a part of my degree. I also studied Portuguese for 2 years at University and received a High First at Intermediate level. I love languages and take great pleasure in passing on this enthusiasm to others!

Teaching Experience:

-I was a teacher's assistant for the head of the French department at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys in June 2010. I assisted in teaching Years 7 and Upper Six, and all years in between with class sizes ranging from 6 to 32. I attended 12 hours of training on behavioral management, how to engage pupils and effective teaching prior to this placement which prepared me well.
-I informally taught English as a foreign language to French, Spanish and Portuguese adults on a weekly basis for 2 years whilst studying languages at university, as language exchanges.
-I have tutored Spanish and Chemistry GCSE students through this site with positive results, references available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a professional, friendly tutor with great enthusiasm for learning. Can tutor to boost student's level, or help to prepare for exam deadlines. For GCSEs, A-Levels, University exams or personal deadlines, we can work out a learning plan to fit the student's requirements. Usual areas to work on are reading/writing/listening/speaking skills. I have my own material (films, tv clips, music) to supplement the student's own if needed for languages.

I look forward to hearing from you,
Lucy

Personal Description:
My name is Jae, an international student at University of Surrey studying Aerospace Engineering. I have also studied at Australian National University for two years. My major at Australian National University was Manufacturing and Management Engineering. Although I am an international student, I have finished my junior and senior secondary education in English spoken country, thus I have good background of using English.

Teaching Experience:

I have no official teaching experiences in the UK. However, I am always willing to help my colleagues if they have any questions or problems regarding their subject as long as it is engineering related materials. On the other hand I was a volunteering Maths, Physics and English tutor in Korea for a year in total.

Tutoring Approach:

It is essential to understand the basic and fundamental concept in every academic subject and practice it. Thus, my approach for tutoring is to express the fundamental base as easy as possible then trying many examples to make a new understanding solid for later application.

I also offer audition guidance and monologue tuition for actors and acting students.

Testimonial from Ina:

"Thank you for all your help with my Film Studies, I ended up getting an A* and also an A* in Media Studies. so I got my place at the University of Exeter to study Management with Marketing, thanks a lot, I couldn't have done it without you!"

Personal Description:
I'm a native Polish speaker, Southampton graduate and a student of the University of Amsterdam. I'm talkative and approachable, passionate about languages and society.

Teaching Experience:

Over 3 years of steady tutoring experience. I've conducted both long term language courses as well as short ones for weddings and holidays. I've taught adults, university students and GCSE-level pupils. My main focus is on individual tutoring but I also have classroom experience and I'm happy to engage with groups.

Methods I've used span from conventional book-style approach, flexible course formed in co-operation with a student (choice of topics, methods, material, focus) to theme-specific conversation.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority is to make personalised lessons, focus them around interests, preferences and needs of each student. I use variety of materials (books, newspapers, songs, films, photographs, games, additional grammatical and vocabulary exercises). I adjust pace and method of introducing new information and skills to fit individual needs.

Language is a practical skill and I aim to give you the ability to communicate with your Polish friends, partners and co-workers. I also see language as a gateway to culture and I'm happy to complement lessons with insight to interesting and unique parts of Polish life.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I respond quickly :)

Reference:

'Ewa has taught me Polish for over a year now. She's made a lot of effort to ensure that the lessons are well-tailored to my needs. She's very conscientious and always well-organised, but also flexible and has a good balance between being professional and teaching in a relaxed manner. I feel like I've made a lot of progress under her tutelage and always enjoy my lessons, so would happily recommend her to others.' Sam, 29

Personal Description:
As a child, I learned by being told, by beatings, shaming and a strict examination system. As you can imagine I didn't learn much that I could later apply to my academic life. As a result, I became an inveterate learner, always interested in learning the next thing. At one point, the drive to learn was because I didn't see myself as being good enough. Later on, that drive became an interest in discovering my own abilities as well as about helping others. I have now learned so much about how not to teach that I have gained good insight into how learning happens. I am keen to ensure all my learners learn how to learn and understand how to apply what they discover.

Teaching Experience:

My background is in teaching, training and facilitation. I have over 25 years experience of teaching in different forms having worked within primary, secondary and further education settings. I am an NVQ / TAQA assessor and trained and assessed Parenting Practitioners and other candidates up to Level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have specialist skills in Personal Effectiveness subjects such as Report Writing, Speed Reading, Presentation Skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a private tutor used to be the preserve of only those with the highest qualifications and the greatest experience. Now all that's changed.

However good a tutor is, the learner needs to be astute in order know if the tutor is a good match for her / him. Importantly, making the right choice can be complex.
Here are three tips to help you decide if I am or someone else is right for you. The following tips describe how I teach and how I will enable you to be an independent learner.

1. Look for a tutor who can teach you how to learn
Here's a funny thing… learners study a subject, sometimes for months and years and can come away with no long-term memory of the underpinning principles of the subject. As disturbing, they have no ongoing understanding of the subject. They are unable to apply what they tried to learn. This is easily resolved by clearing up past issues with learning. In Applied Scholastics it is now well known that if as a learner, you are helped to do so, you can learn any subject. This is central to how I teach.

2. Look for tutors who understand the main barriers to learning and can help you overcome them
There are three main barriers to study. They relate to confusion over an idea, missing out critical steps and having unclear ideas about the subject under study. Gaining a day to day facility with overcoming those barriers is key to effective and efficient study. I use these methods to help my own reading and study. I will introduce them to you so that you can use them too.

3. Look for tutors who can help you find the information you need so that you keep expanding your own understanding of the subject

Sometimes, a learner during a course of study will find that s/he wants to give up. Have you ever experienced this? Whenever that happens it is because there is something - an idea, a symbol, a form of punctuation, the use of a word, or something else - that you did not understand. Without the proper factual information on this and without the correct knowledge of why and how this happens, the learner will struggle. Without knowing what remedies to apply, the learner will give up.

When you study, you are investing time and energy. In this case, money too. If you want to discover more about how you learn, what your barriers to study are and how to understand more, you will benefit from being an independent learner. That will repay your investment.

Those three critical points should help you decide if I could be right for you. They briefly describe the way in which I would work with you and enable you to be an independent learner.

Personal Description:
I am an inspiring, qualified and experienced Spanish and French teacher. My enthusiasm and patience motivates pupils to achieve their full potential and to understand concepts they may struggle with in school. My years of experience as a classroom teacher has allowed me to try and test techniques to ensure pupils make progress from Year 7 to A-level and beyond.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a teacher in 2012 and I have taught French and Spanish from Year 7 to A-level in a secondary school since then. I have been a Sixth Form tutor and so helped pupils write UCAS references and prepared them for Spanish Oxbridge interviews. I fully understand the requirements for AQA and EDEXCEL exam boards for both the old and new GCSE and A-level. I regularly assess and monitor my students' progress and set them achievable targets. I am in regular contact with students' parents so they are aware of their child's progress and targets.
Prior to qualifying as a teacher I was an English as a Foreign Language teacher for 2 years and have tutored for a year.

Tutoring Approach:

I ensure lessons are tailored to meet individual needs and use a range of resources in each lesson. Pupils are set targets which they work towards and I guarantee that my tutees do make progress. Lessons are engaging and cover all four skills; reading, writing, speaking and listening as well as grammar. In addition, I expect pupils to complete independent learning tasks (homework) so they can make the most of tutor contact time. My tutees benefit enormously from the one-to-one contact time and grow in confidence. Each of my lessons is structured based on the tutee's immediate needs and areas for improvement. I am also available to tutor online via Skype
