I enjoy teaching and consider myself both easy going and approachable, whilst being firm and demanding enough to get the best out of any potential student. I graduated with a 2:1 in Biochemistry (with a year in industry) from the University York. Following from my undergraduate degree I obtained an MRes with distinction in Molecular Plant Biology and Biotechnology at Imperial College London. This was followed by a further MRes with distinction in Urban Sustainability and Resilience at University College London. I am currently undertaking an Engineering doctorate at University College London, where my research area focuses on the production of algal biomass. The work falls within the fields of Biochemical and Environmental Engineering, and I have recently obtained research grants to pursue my work.

Teaching Experience:

At university I would often take part in student led tutorials and workshops, allowing me to hone my teaching and listening skills. I currently demonstrate in undergraduate laboratory classes and lead seminar discussions within my department. This university teaching experience is coupled with considerable prior activity in tutoring both friends, family and students of all ages in scientific subject areas, with high levels of success. I am currently tutoring key stage 3, and GCSE biology, chemistry and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an informal teaching style and seek to understand the particular educational requirements of each individual tutee. To this end I will endeavor to promote educational development through note taking, written exercises, case studies, question and discussion periods, as well as with independent study. When the time comes for formal examinations the learning focus will shift to past paper practice and improving general examination technique. I have been teaching Latin and Classical Studies for over 10 years. I have a BA Hons in Latin and Classical Studies from University College Dublin, a Masters in Classics from King's College London and a Diploma in Spoken Latin, for which I studied under the translator for the Vatican. I am passionate about my subject and love to share my enthusiasm for Latin with my students. As well as private tutoring, I also teach Latin and Classics in schools (both primary and secondary), run after school Latin clubs, and am also training teachers who will teach Latin as part of a project I am involved with to introduce Latin into state schools. Teaching Experience:

One very special working experience achievement was with children y3-4 and y5-6 in a primary school. I was not only teaching Italian Language but I was involved as producer and director of Goldilocks and the three bears in the Italian spoken language which has never been done before as a movie.
Date: from March to April 2005.
Actors were primary school children, which have been selected from the Head Teacher and me. I have trained them every week from March to April 2005 to play on different set. (Drama lessons included). The movie has been filmed in July 2005.
My experience was not only as an Italian Teacher but director and producer and composer for the editing of background music and special audio effects. This is the first time I have made my first movie. (17 minutes footage).
Sponsor for the project and investor was the Italian Consulate of Manchester (U.K.). Very good reward and payment + bonus for the hard work I have done in those months.

I achieved my Trinity CertTESOL in January 2015. The certification process included teaching both group and individual lessons for a range of abilities from pre-intermediate to advanced. I was thoroughly stimulated by this course and enjoyed it immensely. I am now capable of going into a classroom and producing a well-thought out, appropriate and stimulating lesson that will help students of English to achieve their linguistic aims. Personal Description:
MA in English Language, PGCE, experienced examiner of GCSE English Language for AQA exam board (5 years). I have been teaching for six years and have been awarded outstanding by Ofsted in school inspections. I can tutor GCSE English Language and/or Literature, English grammar, and entrance exams. I am passionate about my subject and I also like to use it as a vehicle for students to explore morals, ethics and identity; I am most happy when I feel I am teaching students core skills, as well as broadening their knowledge of our rich history or important current affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate of the Teach First programme. Teach First is a charity that tackles educational disadvantage by placing graduates in schools which are in challenging circumstances. As a result of this, I had to learn how to plan and deliver lessons that were fun and engaging, as well as educational. Many of the students in my classes were behind because the school hadn't been able secure permanent staff, so I also had to learn how to accelerate their progress quickly, if they were to have any hope of reaching their true potential. I signed up to examine English Language at GCSE for AQA and this was certainly helpful, as I was able to give my students a big insight into the skills that were required and the mistakes that were often made. I have been an examiner for the last five years, so my knowledge and experience here would certainly benefit someone about to start in year 11. I am passionate about making English as a subject relevant and I am lucky that English provides a lot of opportunities for that; I can teach the core skills using texts from contexts that students will relate too, which really helps to build confidence and maintain engagement.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always aim choose engaging texts for my tutees to work with because I want the sessions to be engaging as well has educational, especially if this is an extra session on top of all the lessons in school.

I think it is important to break down core skills like 'analysis' and 'evaluation', so that students actually understand what is required of them. Often, students are asked to 'explain' and analyse and their students have no idea what this actually means or how to do it. I have tried and tested resources, which will support my tutee and help them to do this.

I think it is important to encourage independence in any tutee, but we can't just expect it to happen, just because we have asked. I feel that modelling good outcomes and the writing process, as well as asking students to critique their own work and the work of others is key in helping students to be more independent. This is something I have achieved in a classroom setting and so, I am confident that I can help a tutee to do the same.
