I am currently a PhD student in History at the University of Leicester, having recently finished an MA in History at the University of Warwick and a BA in History at the University of Leicester. My studies have generally concentrated on British and American history from c.1500 - present. My main strengths are in modern history from 1700 to 1945, however I am versatile and able to teach other topics outside these thematic areas.

I am a friendly, enthusiastic and patient character that is able to encourage and teach in a passionate and worth-while manner. I have a wide-ranging experience of teaching and mentoring from a young age (see below)

I am a 30 year old female graduate from the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow. I have a joint Honours degree in French and Italian (language and studies) for which I gained a 2:1. I also have a Masters in Marketing which I also obtained from the University of Strathclyde. I am currently working in the Modern Languages department of St Ninian's High School in East arendreeshire. I spent a year abroad in Lyon, France, during my fourth year of university, where I worked as an English Language Assistant in two high schools. I am extremely patient and understanding and have a lot of experience tutoring both young children and teenagers, especially in French and Italian. I am passionate about working with and helping others and find it to be a most rewarding experience and I would love to pass on my knowledge and skills, in my specialist subjects, in order to help develop the skills of the tutees I will be working with. Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified French & Italian teacher in secondary education and have acquired a great amount of experience throughout my different posts and have gained great confidence in teaching the new National 4 and 5 qualifications. I also have experience teaching the Higher Course in both languages. During my fourth year of University, I worked in two high schools in Lyon, France as an English language assistant, teaching children, teenagers and young adults, from the age of nine to twenty three. I was responsible for helping them with all aspects of the language, and developing their reading, writing, listening and verbal skills by preparing and working on a number of different activities. I also taught them about British culture, history and lifestyles so as to help develop their knowledge of Britain, particularly Scotland, in general. I ensured that I worked differently with different individuals, depending on their style of learning and I took a different approach accordingly. I aimed to make my style of teaching both informative and fun so that they enjoyed learning and I believe this is something I am always successful in as many tutees I have worked with have commented on my positive and helpful way of teaching.

In my final year of high school I was involved in the 'Peer Education' programme whereby I went into five different French and Italian classes and helped those who were experiencing difficulties with the subjects. I helped particularly with grammar issues as these seemed to pose the most problems for pupils and I also helped them prepare for upcoming speaking and writing tests. I also helped pupils to understand easier ways of making the most of their French or Italian dictionary and taught them creative and simple of ways of tackling listening and reading tests. Moreover, I worked on a one to one basis with a Higher grade pupil who was experiencing problems with French and we explored different ways of making difficult areas that much easier. I was also part of the 'Paired Reading' programme where I worked with pupils aged eleven to fifteen who experienced reading difficulties. I met with three pupils for one hour each week, on an individual basis, and we would work on techniques for improving their reading ability and they would read to me. These two programmes were very gratifying, especially when I witnessed a pupil's confidence grow as their reading skills improved.

I have also tutored two family friends, both in French and Italian, with a great focus on exam preparation and the skills that they needed to do well on class tests. I also help my niece and nephew with their French, focusing greatly on the areas they find the most difficult.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a different approach to my tutoring depending on the individual I am working with. On my first session with my tutee I will find out the areas that they are experiencing the most difficulty in, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, as this will help me to develop an effective and helpful way of teaching. I prepare various worksheets, practice tests and activities which are interactive and will allow for valuable learning. I will ask the tutee what their preferred way of learning is and look at ways in which they successfully learn in other subjects and try to incorporate this in to my way of teaching. I encourage tutees to ask questions wherever necessary and to state if they wish me to try a different approach. I believe communication is the key to successful learning and I pride myself on my friendly and approachable nature and my ability to achieve results in my tuition. On the whole, I am aware that my way of teaching has to be of benefit to the tutee so I will tailor my approach to suit their wants and needs.

I am a full time, professional tutor, specialising in English, maths and general study skills. I achieve excellent results and students look forward to my sessions. As detailed below, I have a wealth of experience and success working with students with Special Educational Needs, and other difficulties which have prevented them from accessing the curriculum fully.

I have a very calm, patient and friendly approach to tuition. I will explain and revisit as many times as needed and use a variety of methods to make tricky topics memorable. I use a range of resources and approaches, tailored to student preferences and different learning styles.


I am qualified teacher with a BEd teaching degree and a Masters degree in education, plus other courses attended to further my professional development.

Tutoring Approach:

I support students with many different needs and situations. These include:

Over the past 4 years in my role as a tutor, my students have made excellent progress in terms of confidence, catching up with age-related expectations and achieving the desired level or above in 11+ or Year Six SATs. I have a loyal student base and much of my work now comes from existing student recommendations.


Recent successes:

Children who have not responded to tuition in the past have really engaged with the subject and made good progress.

Children who were struggling with Year 6 SATs have achieved at least one level higher than predicted.

Those tutored for 11+ exams have passed and gained entry to their chosen school (Two to Wolverhampton Grammar, one to King Edward`s Birmingham).

Most pupils are focused on a particular examination and I never lose sight of this fact.
However, I like to demonstrate how mathematics is applied in the real world.

I am a graduate of the English Department at the University of Hull, and I have a PGCE from Leeds Metropolitan University. I have written various academic articles for publication, and I also develop learning programmes which combine the English curriculum with the exploration of local history, events and places. I am currently working on a documentary about Charles Dickens's visits to Hull, and have written a play abput the same subject.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE. I have an Honours degree in English and a Masters with a Distinction in English, I am also working on a doctorate (Phd) in my subject. I have worked in education for more than twelve years. I also offer tutring in Media Studies and Religious Studies, as well as assisteance with literacy, including reading and writing. However, I am not qualified to teach English as a foreign language.

I can teach students from Year Five to degree level. I have taught in schools and in the English Department at the University of Hull. I have also been a marker for English GCSE exam papers. I currently work as a tutor to students taking A' Level and GCSE English. I have had 100% pass rate for both, with students gaining Grade C and upwards.

I work with dyslexic students, and those who are on the autism spectrum. I also work with students who are sitting the English Skills tests for their PGCE. My students include adults, primary school children working towards SATs, GCSE and AS/A2 students, and students who need a general helping hand with their English, and with developing exam skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a student-focused approach to tutoring. Each of my students is given an initial assessment and has an individual learning plan and is set targets. I am happy to repeat exercises and essays where necessary, and to go over information to ensure that the student understands concepts, ideas and exam requirements. I will set homework where necessary, but do not believe that this should interfere with schoolwork, or be excessive and burdensome.
I also believe that regular assessments and tests are essential to ensure that the student is maintaining a good standard of work, and that they are on-target. I am also a firm believer that encouragement and praise should be cornerstones of good teaching.

after 4pm and weekends (Flexible). I have worked in various schools as a Maths teacher, hence fully understand the national curriculum of each year group.
I am a patient and motivating teacher. I have helped many young learners to achieve great results in Maths.

Teaching Experience:

As mentioned above, I am a qualified teacher. Apart from my full time job as a teacher, I take private tuition for children from year 5 to GCSE. I have 6 years of private tutoring experience.

I use a variety of approaches whilst tutoring. It varies from pure problem solving, questioning, activities, Bingo Maths, Treasure hunt etc.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a Maths teacher, I strongly believe that one cannot excel in Maths without a strong foundation of basic Maths skills. My main focus area would be to give a clear understanding of the basics of each topic.

In order to identify the weaker areas, I conduct an initial assessment. I plan lessons based on the result of the Initial assessment.
I am a strong believer of extended work. Hence each learner will be given homework.
Practicing exam style questions is very important to achieve better results in exams and moving ahead in class sets. I give importance to homework and exam style questions.

Personal Description:
Hi!

After graduating from Oxford University in English Literature, I went on to do what I'd always planned on doing: becoming a musician! I'm a composer, producer and performer, playing several instruments and recording in my home studio, as well as tutoring in both English and Music.

For me, English as a subject has really helped with music, especially with writing lyrics, but also more generally by encouraging me to think creatively, openly, and critically.

Both subjects are really about feeling inspired by creativity, and the electric feeling of making something that is your own, and this is why I'm passionate about both!

Teaching Experience:

(2010 to 2013) English tutorials - During my time at Oxford, as well as being taught myself, I would often have to help students in the years below me with their work, aiding them in the way they approached their studies and wrote essays under pressure.

(2013 to present) Tutoring in music production - I have now taught several students in songwriting and music production, in particular using the recording software Logic Pro. These are lessons I really enjoy - encouraging creativity in a free-flowing and fun way, whilst teaching the music theory behind songwriting, and the complicated techniques involved in recording and mixing music.

(2014 to present) Tutoring drums - For the last 2 years I have been teaching beginners drums to a pupil, helping him to improve his technique, introducing him to new styles of music, and fostering his passion for music.

Tutoring Approach:

English - Doing well at English as a school subject, especially below A-Level, is mainly about following whichever syllabus the student is learning very carefully, and ticking all the boxes required of an essay as efficiently as possible. However, the key to improving at it (as with all subjects), is simply learning to enjoy it more. One to one tuition is perfect for this, because I have time to present the subject matter in a way that each particular student finds useful and enjoyable. I also love to share with students my love of the little things in literature, creative or critical writing that make it worthwhile - the fun in the way sentences and thoughts are put together perfectly. Ultimately, acquiring an enthusiasm for language can help with communicating in any context, whether you're teaching, learning, making new friends or colleagues, or telling a joke.

Music - I play drums, piano, guitar, and sing, but my real strength is in songwriting and producing. If you're looking for a tutor to inspire creative expression, rather than grades based instrument learning, then I'm the tutor for you! I've composed and produced over 200 songs, including music for BBC Radio 4 drama, and I'm especially adept at modern electronic music production. The key to becoming more creative in music, is acquiring a few basic tools that allow you to run with an idea as quickly as possible, without thinking about it, and to learn how to come at a composition from different angles, to prevent frustration or writer's block. Music should be fun and hands on, and it should make you feel proud.
