I'm a 46-year old graduate of the excellent University of Sussex languages course with a First Class Honours degree in French and Russian. I lived for four years in Paris where I mastered the language and the accent!

As well as language studies, my course encompassed literature from the 16th to the 20th centuries and history, society and politics since the French Revolution - subjects I am therefore qualified to talk about with some authority.

I like to stay abreast of French culture and society and am catching up with some novels I didn't get to read at university (most recently Georges Perec's wonderful <i>La Vie, mode d'emploi</i>)

Teaching Experience:

I have now been privately tutoring students at all levels for 6 years covering most UK exam boards at GCSE KS3 and KS4, AS and A2-level, and I have also helped prepare older students for the DELF.

Recent successes include steering a young lady through her DELF B1 exam with a 92.5% mark and an 11-year old girl passing her selective school entrance exam.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to tailor lessons specifically to a student's needs, but my general method is to engage him or her at a level just above their 'comfort zone'. Learning is about challenging yourself to do better, and it is crucial for a tutor to be supportive and encouraging, and also to keep the bar high.

Lessons can be conducted entirely in French, or in a mixture of English and French. I can work alongside a student's existing course (that is, from a textbook a student is already following), or we can use course books that I recommend.

Where the level allows, I like to draw upon material from contemporary sources such as French news magazines.

For "conversation classes", I find it is useful to base the discussion on an article or a book to help build vocabulary, and also think that incorporating grammar instruction (where appropriate) can be a good idea.

I am a professional actor and graduate from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have been working in the private tuition industry for over seven years for various agencies, most prominently The Tutors Group. Before drama school I worked as a Primary School teaching assistant and drama teacher for two years, after graduating from King's College London with a 2:1 in my BA (Hons) English Literature & Language degree. I went straight to university from Norwich High School for Girls in Norfolk. So I have travelled all the way across England in my pursuit of study! During the morning session, I am currently working in a Year One class in this south London school and thriving on aiding the children specifically with their literacy, reading and speaking skills as well as exploring numeracy work.
I lead certain lessons including story time and circle time.
I support key groups of children within the class and am able to use my initiative to plan, deliver and assess their learning in order to encourage progression.
I have vast experience in creating my own resources using ICT, and creating artistic displays to proudly exhibit the children's work.

My name is Jessica and I am a 27 year old tutor from Brixton, South London. I have grown up with a great education from both schooling and tutors, and aim to keep up this high standard in my teaching. My secondary school, Heathfield Private Girls in Pinner, was a great starter for me and showed me a wide variety of effective teaching methods in all areas of education. When specialising at Woodhouse College in English, Drama, Biology and French I had some of the most inspiring and creative teachers who pushed me to a level I did not know I could achieve. As a result I had a firm foundation for my English and Drama Bachelor of the Arts at the University of Birmingham which made the course all the more enjoyable. I will be studying my Masters in October at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Teaching Experience:

My most recent pupil was retaking his A-Level drama exam during his gap year. By working together for 6 week, we managed to bring his grade up from a U to a B, allowing him the chance of a university placement. Other pupils have ranged in age and ability from first years of GCSE to children for homework help. My mother is and has always been a French teacher, so from a young age I was helping to look after and share responsibility for her classes. This included an after-school French club for children from the age of 4 to 11 years called Jeux D'Enfants and also helping organise and plan some private lessons. At College and University I tutored the younger siblings of my close friends for their 11+ and GCSE and also held weekly Shakespeare study groups for my course. I have recently decided to become a teaching assistant for a secondary school in North London and am excited to tutor once more.

I was more than fortunate to come across Jessica's profile back in April 2012.

From the moment I sent her my initial email, there was both an element of professionalism and caring. The amount of effort and detail she put into my 12 lesson's between April and late May was second to none.
In terms of what Jess brought to my lesson's (We looked at two play's for my written exam. Lysistrata and A Comedy of Errors) she had a lot of material on the latter having studied it at school. From character profiles to stage description's she had an extensive amount of notes, chart and diagrams as well as an understanding of the play and exam. As for lysistratta, this was a play she had never read, by my first lessons she had not only read it but had started to plan out potential lesson planners, as the weeks went by the material and effort she put into each lesson continue. During lesson's I found that she had a very cool and relaxed attitude. She's still young and has an understanding of not only the subject but also how a-levels can effect students and how to best deal with this pressure.

In the end however it's all about the result I suppose. In my last exam (Unit 4 theatre studies) I got under 20% the year before. My finale grade fell from B to D. After my lesson's with Jessica I got 78% and my grade jump back up to B. Added to my A and B in my two other subject I was accepted to the university of Southampton, something I couldn't have imagine a year prior.

Jessica had a huge part to play in this and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that no one pupil is the same, so it is impossible to define a teaching method as it must be adapted to the needs of the student. From experience of being tutored myself, I know how frustrating it can be to be taught in a way that doesn't suit your thinking, so with each pupil I ask them how they learn and absorb information best. As a result I spend the first lesson going over what the pupil does not understand, and why, thus gaining an comprehension of how to explain it better. I also like to push the student to think beyond their boundaries, or the boundaries necessary to simply get the grade, as this is how exceptional thinking and a sense of achievement come about.

I am of french nationality, i arrived in bristol 7 months ago. I have spent my whole life in france, passed my A level, studied carpentry and passed my exam successfully. I practiced english for 6 years at school, and i am now completely bilingual. I read a lot in english and i am very ineterested in languages in general. Since i arrived in England, i have been working as a waitress in a restaurant ( Poco on stokes croft ), and i would like now to work as a tutor to help children and people learn french the best way possible.

Teaching Experience:

Back in france, i have been helping children doing their lessons, not only in french, but also in all the other subjects. I have never been " teaching", but i am very good in communication and working with children and people.

Tutoring Approach:

I am willing to give my best to help people learning french and helping them in the understanding of the language. The communication and being patient must be my priority.

My name is Heyka, 44 years old and I'm from Germany. I spent half of my life in Southamerica and Germany what made it easy for me to be fluent in three languages. I'm a certified correspondent and have been working for different companies doing contract translations. I changed office work to self-employment and started giving lessons for students and also in companies. Individual- and group lessons. In addition to this i continued with translation of contracts and manuals.

Tutoring Approach:

One to One - focussing on parts of the curriculum where the student is having difficulty in understanding
Create a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. The student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. One-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students' personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject.

Depending on the student's needs and learning style I encourage students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!

With programming language my approach is first to make the student using various simple approaches like an algorithm or with a flow chart to solve it then once the confidence if built up to go to the syntax of the programming language. This approach not only will help you master any programming language quickly but improve ones analytical skills as well.

Personal Description:
My name is Antonia and I am an actor and creative workshop leader based in Northampton. I have an acting degree and I will be studying a Masters in Acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in September 2017. I have skills in Shakespeare, clowning, mask work, Stanislavski Methodologies, Voice technique, devising, contemporary script work and various other performance based skills. I am have a Grade 8 in Musical Theatre singing. I am incredibly interested in characters and text and the best way to explore those.

Teaching Experience:

Since 2013, I have worked with The Royal & Derngate Theatre, Northampton in many of their youth theatre groups and I am now a Creative Projects Associate there. My roles include leading workshops for people of all ages and creating one off workshops for festivals. I have recently assistant directed on their large scale youth production of Oliver! and on their Christmas show for under 7's- Second Star to the Right. Alongside working for The Royal & Derngate, I also work at The Pauline Quirke Academy, Northampton teaching weekly skilled based classes and directing small and larger scale performances.
I have also worked with various companies leading after school drama clubs as well as one-to-one tuition in singing.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring will be bespoke to each individual, taking into account previous performance experience, age, the needs of the individual and the goal they are working towards.
I will adapt my sessions to suit the learning styles of the individual. My sessions will be fun and use memorable techniques to learn new skills.
I am also happy to teach audition technique and use tutoring time as a way to prepare for auditions. I will happily recommend monologues I think are appropriate. I am also able to look at teaching acting through song.
