I am the Head of Economics at LVS Ascot and I have spent the last 10 years working successfully in Schools such as St Lukes Science and Sports College in Exeter, The Ridings High School in South Gloucestershire and St Josephs Catholic School in Slough. I have consistently achieved good results with my pupils. I have designed hundreds of resources for my subject that enable students to work towards the criteria set down by exam boards at both GCSE and A' Level. I have extensive knowledge of the AQA and Edexcel courses and exam technique for A2. I have been an examiner for A Level Economics for 4 Years and I currently mark for both the Edexcel and AQA exam boards. This has given me an insight into how exam papers are marked and how students can be prepared for these papers.

I worked in business computing and always enjoyed the training side of the job. At the moment I am working as a private tutor, helping my husband to renovate and restore a seventeenth century house and training an unruly young sprollie dog.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE in secondary maths teaching and taught in a secondary school for one year. During my career in IT as an analyst/programmer I trained staff in programming techniques, and also trained users as part of the implementation of the many systems I was involved in. My enjoyment of maths and teaching led me to refresh and extend my skills by studying for a PGCE in post compulsory education. During the course of this I gained experience of whole class teaching, one to one and small group tutoring at GCSE and A-level.

I have now been working as a private tutor with individual pupils for a year and am learning all the time! I have experience of students taking GCSE maths for the first time and with those doing resits. I can offer tuition up to AS level (C1, C2, S1). I have experience of working with students with dyslexia. I am also an Adult Education Tutor and work with people returning to maths later in life.

Tutoring Approach:

I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this - many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear - a little one to one help can turn all that around. I began having Japanese lessons at school when I was eleven years old and continued to study the language for a further seven years. I completed GCSE Japanese- A* and GCE A Level Japanese-B before coming to the University of Leeds to study BA Japanese and Philosophy.
I have been lucky enough to have visited Osaka as an exchange student during my A-Level studies and also to have co-hosted an exchange student. These experiences were key in making me want to pursue learning Japanese as well as teach others about the language and culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught beginner Japanese lessons in primary schools and at my previous school supported secondary students with their Japanese studies. During my time in Japan I was able to assist Japanese friends at school with their learning of English as well as teach my host family key English phrases.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning a new language should be interactive and enjoyable. I encourage students to get stuck in and be prepared to learn from mistakes in order to develop a thorough understanding and sound knowledge of Japanese. Originally from Moscow with Russian as my native language, my family and I immigrated to England when I was at a young age. Despite spending most of my childhood at English schools, I was also home schooled by my parents, following the Russian curriculum until the age of 12. This included, among other subjects, regular lessons and examinations in Russian literacy. Despite not continuing with these lessons due to wanting to apply myself fully to the English curriculum, I've continued to speak, read and write the language at a high level of fluency.

I am currently a final year undergraduate student at the University of Birmingham studying Joint Honours Political Science and Philosophy. While challenging, my degree does leave me with a good amount of spare time each week for face to face tuition and preparation of lesson materials.

I enjoy reading various philosophy from Ancient Greek to modern postmodernism.

Teaching Experience:

I am a current tutor for the philosophy department at the University of Dundee. I also teach the philosophy summer course for the university.

I have been a tutor for 5 years and teaching the summer course for 2 years.

I also previously taught an adult course for the University of Dundee based on a causal reading of the philosophy of Plato.

Tutoring Approach:

Philosophy is a difficult subject to understand with technical concepts and explanations. My teaching approach simplifies these concepts and explanations by relating them to everyday examples. Also where appropriate they are also related to film and tv examples. This approach then aims to clarify and help the student's understanding but also make the learning process fun and engaging.

Philosophy is also a subject that encourages critical thinking. I encourage my students to be critical of the philosophers and ideas that are being discussed. Their criticisms then can illuminate a deep problem in the philosophy or be comparable to another philosopher's objection.

Resolution of any problems or issues that arise whilst addressing a philosopher is also key. This is because no problem is trivial and helps to clarify the student's understanding and also make the text easier to understand. Any problem will be addressed such as difficultly in understanding an area in the text, concept, or in understanding another philosopher's criticism.

Homework will be given that covers the discussion. Typically these questions will be for the student to give an explanation of concept and how this can be practically applied.

Teaching Experience:

I have often had the opportunity during the time of my studies and my various jobs to teach.
I gave literature tutoring to secondary school students, and French classes to foreign students of the university.
I was also in charge to make educational visits to various cultural places where I worked : as a guide in a castle, or when I was a volunteer in an art gallery.

Tutoring Approach:

teaching in England is mainly an opportunity for me to improve my knowledge and sharing, along with gain more experience

Personal Description:
My name is Chris and IT and computing is my passion. I have studied A-Level equivalent IT as well as studying an apprenticeship in Telecoms and communication previously. I am currently applying for university but I want to branch out and gain more experience teaching. I have experience supporting children in education and working with them in IT courses as well as being an exam invigilator for apprentice exams.

I am kind, well-mannered and direct, but I also support each person as much as possible so that they can reach their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have some teaching experience assisting in the delivery of high quality IT training and have worked supporting and teaching apprenticeship students for the last 2 years, as well as gaining personal experience in learning with a BTEC and apprenticeship level 3 qualifications.
I also have safeguarding qualifications and have worked with young and vulnerable people of all ages, mainly focussing on the 14-25 age bracket.

Tutoring Approach:

I am firm yet fair and kind. I work with each student to start where they are at in order to decide an appropriate plan of action to develop their skills at their pace but also for them to reach their targets in a timely manner.

Why I am a good tutor?

-I am patient and passionate about the subject I teach
-I make lessons interesting and can show the student that learning can be fun
-I make appropriate targets and work with the student to ensure they reach them without pushing them or pressurizing them.

I have put 5 miles to travel on my profile but I am more than willing to travel a little further via public transport to go that extra mile for your learning.
